Dear BlackHorse Members,
Coming off a rainy month of May, it was exciting to finally enjoy some great weather for the Grand Reopening of the South Course and the unveiling of our new bunkers It was great to see so many Members out celebrating with us and enjoying the improvements firsthand
We carried that momentum right into our Member-Member Tournament, which was another fantastic weekend at the Club filled with great competition and camaraderie Congratulations to all of our flight winners, and a special congratulations to our overall champions, Louis Shepard and William Do, on an impressive victory
We also had a phenomenal first Couples Event of the year and are looking forward to gathering everyone back together again on June 19th for another fun evening at the Club.
Family Cup is officially underway after a really fun kickoff night featuring glow golf competition and snow cones We pick right back up on Sunday with golf and Ice Cream Sundae Sundays This remains one of my favorite series of the entire year When people ask me to describe Family Cup, I always say the same thing you go out and play golf with your family for about two hours We play a scramble, but honestly, it really doesn’t matter how you play It’s about being out there with your spouse and/or kids, spending time together and having fun Then we come in for the best part - Ice Cream Sundae Sunday - where the toppings are numerous and the flavors are delicious
We are also excited for three of our Members to represent BlackHorse in the Escalante Fellowship Cup at Kingsmill Resort in Williamsburg, Virginia. John Welch, Paul Byrne and Mark Grimes will join Cabott to compete in this fun and prestigious championship. I look forward to following their progress and capturing photos from this inaugural event
Lastly, I have shared this a few times already, but we are very excited to have Connor Jordan here as our Director of Agronomy Be sure to check out his section of the newsletter and take the opportunity to get to know him a little better He would love to meet you, so please feel free to introduce yourself when you see him out on the course

Well, somehow we ’ ve already made it to June, and summer golf season is officially here at BlackHorse. I’m incredibly excited about all the fun events we have scheduled for our Members to get out, connect, and enjoy the Club this summer. From Men’s & Ladies Leagues, Couples League, junior camps, complimentary Member’s clinics, Triple Crown, and MGA events, all the way to my favorite Family Cup kicking off - we have something for everyone.
First off, thank you to everyone who participated in our Grand Re-Opening celebration From all the Members I visited with, it seemed like everyone had a fantastic time I even had the opportunity to get out and play Thursday with a few Members, and I must say, the new bunkers were even better than I anticipated The course looks outstanding, and we ’ re excited for everyone to continue enjoying the improvements
We then rolled straight into Member-Member weekend… and what a weekend it was! Events like this never get old for me. Getting to spend time with such great people and friends, enjoy awesome food, great golf, and then cap it all off with an incredible Horse Race is what it’s all about. I believe we had a three-hole playoff between William Do & Louis Shepard and Ryan Mahoney & Aaron Salinas. The way it was going, I thought we might still be out there trying to determine a champion In the end, William & Louis hoisted the trophy Congratulations to them, all of our flight winners and tournament participants Weekends like these are what make BlackHorse special and continue building the incredible atmosphere we ’ re fortunate to have here at the Club Also quick shout out to Erin and Cabott’s team members I believe they host an incredible event and we ’ re so appreciative for them and all they do
As we move into summer, we ’ re looking forward to Father’s Day golf, summer tournaments, Couples tournaments, Family Cup, and many more Member activities throughout the season Be sure to keep an eye on upcoming emails and the golf calendar so you don’t miss out. And if you ever need help getting connected with a partner for an event - or simply finding some new friends to tee it up with - please let me know. I’m always happy to help.

I would like to take a moment to introduce myself as the new Director of Agronomy at BlackHorse Golf Club. I am incredibly excited for the opportunity to join this club and become part of a community that clearly takes great pride in its golf courses and overall Member experience. I have already had the pleasure of talking with some of you, and look forward to meeting many more in the coming weeks and building strong relationships both on and off the golf course
In my short time here at BlackHorse, my primary focus has been listening, observing, and evaluating the current conditions and operations so we can continue moving the golf course in a positive direction We have a very hard working and committed team, and we all share the same vision of preparing the best golf course we can for our Members and guests
In the short term, our focus will be centered on consistency, playability, and attention to detail throughout the property. This includes improving overall turf presentation, refining mowing and cultural practices, strengthening weed management programs, and continuing to improve course cleanliness and definition. We have already begun increasing mowing frequencies and chemically regulated turfgrass growth of all shortgrass As we move into the summer, Members can expect continued focus on smooth putting surfaces, firm playing conditions, and decreased weed presence throughout the golf course
Looking ahead, our long term vision is to continually elevate the overall golf course experience while protecting the long term health and sustainability of the property We will focus on creating consistent playing conditions year round, improving turf density and drainage where needed, enhancing landscape aesthetics, and identifying opportunities for course improvements over time. My goal is to ensure that BlackHorse continues to provide conditions that members can be proud of while maintaining a course that is both enjoyable and sustainable for years to come.
Communication is very important to me, and I look forward to sharing updates regarding course conditions, agronomic practices, and ongoing projects so that members can better understand the work taking place behind the scenes Feel free to stop me out on the course with any questions or feedback, I would love to spend some time getting to know what is important to you all and make sure that we are continuing to push in a direction that we are all proud of

RACE TO THE STALLION CUP

Dear Members,
The golf is season is here and heating up! May was and extremely eventful month in the golf department, and we are looking to keep that rolling on into June. With the Summer months officially here, that also means it’s the time of year to get the whole family involved in the game. There is no better way to get the whole family out than participating in the BlackHorse Family Cup. This is a great program where the golf is secondary to just having fun. We will be hosting Family Cup every Sunday and allows all who are interested to participate in a zero-pressure environment. For more information, please contact the Golf Shop directly.
This month we will also be hosting the Two-Person Shamble for our Member Event. Grab a partner and join us June 13th for a day of fun filled golf. If you are not familiar with a Shamble format, it is where both you and your partner will tee off then select the best drive and play from that position. From there on out you and your partner will play your own ball until it is holed, and record the best score for your team score. It is a format that is great to not only test your skills, but also ensure you get to play from the best possible position. Also, if you don’t have a partner, there is no reason to worry; we are always happy to help introduce individuals and get golfers paired up. Who knows, you may meet your lifelong playing partners at one of these events.
This month we will also be running the second-round matches of our Triple Crown Match Play There have been some great matches thus far, and we look forward to seeing who makes it to the final Horse Race Speaking of the Horse Race, we will be running it and crowning our winning team on June 28th Even if you don’t play, you are still welcome to come out and cheer on your favorite teams Like all Horse Races, it’s going to be an exciting fight to the finish, and one you won’t want to miss
The Summer is also a great time for us all to work on our games Longer days, and more time, means we can set some time aside to practice We will continue to host our Member Clinics, and Logan Blundell is always ready to help you take your game to the next level Please reach out to him directly at lblundell@blackhorsegolfclub com to take your game to new heights Your best golf may just be one phone call away

Summer is officially underway at BlackHorse, and we have plenty to be excited about both on and off the golf course. In the Golf Shop, we're thrilled to host a Titleist Fitting Day on June 11, featuring the launch of Titleist's newest woods lineup. If you're looking to add distance, improve consistency, or simply see what the latest technology can do for your game, this is a great opportunity to get fit by the experts and experience the new products firsthand.
On the Member Engagement side, we're looking forward to seeing families and friends continue making memories together through two of our favorite programs. The Family Cup is officially underway, bringing generations of golfers together for some friendly competition and unforgettable moments on the course. We're also excited for another Couples Golf & Bingo event this month on June 19th, combining a relaxed nine-holes of golf, great food and drinks, and plenty of laughs in Roper's Grill afterward.

As we look back on a wonderful month, I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to all of the families who joined us for our Mother's Day Brunch It was such a pleasure to celebrate the incredible mothers, grandmothers, and mother figures who mean so much to our families and our club community From the delicious brunch offerings to the laughter shared around the table, the day was filled with special moments that made it truly memorable We are grateful for your support and for allowing us to be a part of your family's celebrations
We also had the pleasure of hosting our first Couples Golf & Bingo event, and what a fantastic evening it was! One of the things I love most about events like these is seeing members connect, whether it's longtime friends enjoying a fun night together or new friendships being formed Between the golf, great food and drinks, lively bingo games, and plenty of laughs along the way, the evening was everything we hoped it would be and more Thank you to everyone who participated and helped make the event such a success We are already looking forward to welcoming everyone back for our next Couples Golf event on June 19 and creating even more great memories together
