Dear Members, Our courses are in fantastic condition despite our weather challenges. We are so grateful for a wonderful maintenance team who makes this possible every day. Our Member-Member Shamble is open for registration and spots are filling quickly! There is a link to the registration through golf genius both on the website and here in our newsletter. We are happy to bring on Chuck DaSilva as our Director of Player Development and Lillian Walton as our event sales director. They both come to PR with a wealth of knowledge and are excited to see all that they do here. Please say hello if you see them around the club!

Our Pumpkin family continues to grow as we’ve welcomed 3 new members to our membership group over the past month! As our growth continues, please engage, and introduce yourself to any fresh faces at the club when you have an opportunity!

The 2022/2023 Winter Discover Membership program is still active, and we have a couple spots available. The cost is $2,000.00 and includes 3 complimentary guest passes, along with some nice Pumpkin Ridge apparel. Let me know if you have anyone interested, it is an easy enrollment.

Initiation Fee update: our Initiation Fees are still at $10,000.00 (Junior Executive (under 40 years old)) and $20,000.00 (Full Golf (over 40 years old)).

As always, we continue to ask for everyone’s commitment with scheduling (and cancelling) tee-times correctly/accurately via EZ Links in order to maximize access for all members.

THANK YOU! As a heads up - the Referral Rewards program will be changing in 2023 so that referring members will qualify for a biannual golf trip. Stay tuned and more to come….. 😊

For those members curious about Icon Golf, their next global trip will be April 10th – 16th at the Reynolds Club at Lake Oconee - with lodging at The Ritz Carlton in Greensboro, GA! Icon Golf has also added the Golf Club of Houston, (TX) and The International, (MA) to their club portfolio in 2023!

All the Icon trips are 5 star and very memorable so let me know if you’re interested in hearing more?!

GOLF PRO SHOP - WITCH HOLLOW GOLF RULES & TIPS John Kawasoe

We are getting closer to Spring. The Golf Course has been in amazing condition despite the wet and cold conditions.

Thank you for your patience while the practice range has had limited access. Our plan moving forward is to have the practice range open Friday through Sunday for full practice. We will have the range closed on Mondays for clean pick. Tuesday through Thursday will be hitting into the net.

For those of you who are looking to improve your golf game here are a couple of tips for when the practice range is limited to hitting into the nets. We have a great short game area at Witch Hollow.

Improving your short game is the quickest way to reduce your scores. Start at the hole and work backwards. Work on 3-to-6-foot putts. If you can knock in a high percentage of your short putts your score will drop considerably.

Fun Fact: at 8 feet is where the PGA Tour Players start to miss more than half of their putts. My point with this stat is the rest of us should be focusing on inside 8 feet. Remember this: if you’re a deadly short putter your lagging becomes easier and so do wedge shots.

Speaking of wedge shots, another Fun Fact. The average proximity to the hole on the PGA Tour from 100 yards is 22 feet. My point here is if most of us just hit the green we are miles ahead. When you work on your wedge game distance control is every bit as important as accuracy. Make your wedge shots for the proper distance. I believe that if you can control distance your proximity to the hole will improve. For more information on how to improve your short game stop by the Golf Shop to set up a lesson.

MEET YOUR NEW TEAM MEMBERS Pumpkin Ridge would like to welcome Chuck DaSilva, our Director of Player Development. Chuck, acting as an independent contractor, will be working to increase instruction and build player development programs. His focus will be on Juniors, Ladies and those players looking to break 80, 90 or 100. He plans to implement Operation 36 and RGX Coaching which develop players’ skills where the game happens. His philosophy is to coach more on the course and keep it simple, fun and friendly.

Chuck DaSilva, PGA

With Chuck’s arrival, Pumpkin Ridge receives a wealth of experience and knowledge. He has been a PGA professional for over 30 years and in the golf business since the age of sixteen. He was born in Torrance, CA and after high school, Chuck attended the University of Portland on a 4-year golf scholarship. He captained the golf team and graduated with a Business Management degree in 1988. He has been a golf professional at Los Verdes GC in California, Columbia Edgewater, head professional at Tri-mountain GC and most recently the Director of Golf at Rock Creek Country Club.

Lillian Walton joins our team as the Event Sales Director with a wealth of knowledge in the hospitality industry.

Graduating from Florida State University in Recreation, Tourism, and Special events, Lillian has pursued her career in all things Hospitality, from coordinating and operating large events with local businesses and nonprofits to becoming the Catering Director at Nike in the Tiger Woods Center and campus buildings.

Lillian is an active member of the Washington County Chamber of Commerce and a council member for the Washington County Hospitality, Retail, and Tourism Council. Lillian has a true passion to lead, build, and drive to successful teams. Lillian is in the Portland/Beaverton area with her Husband, 2 children, and standard poodle. She is a foodie at heart and always willing to venture out to wine country for the best local food and drinks. Lillian is excited to provide the members and guests with a remarkable experience at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club.

Ghost Creek is in absolutely amazing shape during this winter season! If you have not played Ghost, recently make sure you get a round in over here and you will be blown away by the job the maintenance team is doing to keep Ghost in phenomenal playing conditions!

Golf Season is right around the corner! Time to shake off the wintertime rust and get the swing dialed in! Book a lesson with your Ghost Creek Head Golf Professional: sstewart@pumpkinridge.com.

PRO TIP: I know this is going to sound a lot simpler than it may be but the reality of things when it comes to your golf swing is you need to think less about your swing and just go out there and play. If any of you have ever played sports, you can relate to me when I say you never think about a jump shot when a defender is closing out on you or when you are in the batter's box and a pitcher is throwing 90+ mph fastballs on the inside of the plate. You don't sit there and think I need my wrist to be in this spot and my weight transfer needs to be here, head in this position, etc. You just react and do what you know and make it happen.

Next time you are out on the golf course, how about letting it go, walking up, and swinging.

Stop thinking about your swing as much! Most golfers don't even know what they are actually supposed to be thinking about!
