Design, Architecture and Technology Converge at Expo New research from NKBA and CEDIA brings sharper definition to the disconnect between design-build professionals and custom integrators. The issue is less a misunderstanding of each discipline’s core role than a practical breakdown in visibility—knowing where to find the right partner at the right point in a project. The findings highlight that more than one-third (35 percent) of NKBA members report needing an integrator but not knowing who to engage. This is occurring as 68 percent of members say demand for integrated technology, from lighting to automation to wellness systems, is increasing in their projects. The gap underscores a broader industry shift: as technology becomes central to how spaces function, the need for earlier, more seamless collaboration between design professionals and integrators is becoming more critical. Pathways for engagement remain few and far between, though, and as such, the pathways that do exist are seeing substantial transformations to accommodate the shift. This aligns with some of the recent trends observed at CEDIA Expo, where an increase in attendance from the design build community has placed a greater emphasis on panel discussions during speaking opportunities, in addition to training programs from brands now including more components tailored for the design build community. Additionally, the innovations and products showcased by exhibitors have increasingly incorporated architectural and design elements. CEDIA Expo brings together thousands of industry leaders where design and technology converge, offering a dynamic platform to discover how integrated systems are redefining both residential and

commercial environments. Speaking of these findings, Jason McGraw, Group Vice President and Show Director of CEDIA Expo, explains that designers and architects are being asked more frequently to create spaces for clients that go beyond traditional aesthetics. “They’re expected to create environments that are intelligent, responsive, and seamlessly integrated,” says McGraw. “CEDIA Expo is where these worlds come together. It’s where design professionals can engage directly with the technologies shaping modern environments and collaborate with systems integration partners that bring these visions to life.” Daryl Friedman, Global President and CEO of CEDIA, seconds McGraw’s thoughts. “Designers and architects are being asked to think beyond aesthetics and consider how a space truly performs,” says Friedman. “We’re bringing education and industry collaboration together, so designers, architects, and integrators can create more seamless, responsive environments.” HOW CHANGES CONTINUE TO TAKE SHAPE ON THE SHOW FLOOR The evolution of architecture and design and its intertwining with the custom integration (CI) space is being actively reflected across the new show experience for CEDIA Expo, from curated programming and networking to an expanded focus on design-forward products and solutions throughout the show floor. At the center of this is the Day of Discovery, a curated, immersive program designed specifically for design build professionals. The experience includes guided and self-guided tours, curated education

sessions, and targeted networking opportunities, all designed to translate complex technologies into practical design applications. On the show floor, the Smart Stage serves as the live forum for conversations shaping the future of design and integration. Through its Design Build educational track, the CEDIA Educational Conference also delivers targeted learning experiences that help design professionals better understand, specify and collaborate on integrated systems. HOW DESIGNERS ARE INTERPRETING THE CHANGE For Natasa Obradovic, Founder & Interior Designer, KN Design, the resources give her an opportunity to build a better understanding of the technology clients are asking for. “CEDIA Expo gives designers a stronger understanding of how technology impacts the way we design and collaborate on projects today, she says. “It’s an opportunity to bridge the gap between design and integration while gaining insights, resources, and connections that directly influence future project outcomes.” Marina Skiles, Principal of Marina Skiles Architecture & Interiors, who has been attending CEDIA Expo for several years, says the show provides an “informative and energizing experience” for her practice each year. “The show is where I reset for the year ahead— where I see innovative new products, learn of exciting integrations, cross-reference experience with peers, and meet new people and new brands,” she explains. “It’s a creative reboot and sets me up for the new year.”

SHOW NEWS

Expo Remains the Hub for Advocacy, Connection and Education Exhibiting at CEDIA Expo is about more than maintaining a presence on the show floor. According to CEDIA Global President and CEO Daryl Friedman, the annual event serves as a platform to advance the organization’s core mission while providing opportunities to engage directly with members, industry partners and the broader design and build community. Friedman says CEDIA’s participation in the show is guided by the association’s three pillars: Advocacy, Connection and Education. “Advocacy is showcased through the CEDIA Smart Home Awards, where we elevate the work of smart home professionals and reinforce the value of our industry,” Friedman says. The connection component comes through faceto-face interactions with members throughout the week, whether during educational sessions, informal networking opportunities or conversations on the show floor. “From friendly games of pickleball to conversations on the booth, we’re able to exchange ideas, gather feedback, and strengthen relationships that shape our work year-round,” Friedman says. Education remains another major focus of CEDIA’s presence at Expo. Through the CEDIA Education Conference, the association delivers training, certification opportunities and professional development programs designed to support industry professionals at various stages of their careers. FORTRESS INC., BOOTH 3018 Fortress, Inc. is featuring its CineMilano, introduced in 2024, during CEDIA Expo 2026. CineMilano, Fortress’s newest value-focused model, sports 100 percent leather upholstery, dual motors, and a stainlesssteel control switch with USB charging. It delivers exceptional comfort and features while maintaining an attractive price point. Standard features include: Motorized recline, motorized articulating headrest, stainless steel switch with USB and stainless or black cup holders.

CREATING COLLABORATION ACROSS THE DESIGN-BUILD COMMUNITY Beyond integrators, CEDIA has increasingly used Expo as a platform to engage architects and interior designers. Friedman points to the organization’s Smart Home Tech & Design Program as one of the most impactful ways it connects with the design community. “The program elevates their knowledge and confidence in smart home technology and inspires them to incorporate these elements into their projects,” Friedman says. That effort extends into the education program, where the Design & Build track offers classes tailored to both integrators and design professionals. According to Friedman, creating shared learning environments has helped strengthen collaboration between trades and encourage a more team-oriented approach to residential projects. THE VALUE OF IN-PERSON CONVERSATIONS While CEDIA communicates with members throughout the year through phone calls, emails and virtual meetings, Friedman says the in-person nature

of Expo provides unique value. “There truly is no substitute for in-person interaction,” he says. “Being together at CEDIA Expo allows us to build deeper relationships and gain candid, real-time feedback that directly shapes our programs and initiatives.” The event also serves as an opportunity for CEDIA’s global staff to gather in one place, helping align teams and initiatives that support members around the world. HOW THE CEDIA TOWN HALL BECAME AN EXPO STAPLE Among the organization’s biggest successes at Expo has been the launch and continued growth of the annual CEDIA Town Hall. Introduced in 2022, the session was designed to create an open forum for discussion around key industry issues. “What began as an ambitious new idea quickly exceeded every attendance and engagement expectation we set,” Friedman says. “The response confirmed that our members value open dialogue and direct access to leadership and industry experts.” Since its debut, the Town Hall has become a recurring part of CEDIA’s Expo programming, addressing topics ranging from advocacy and workforce development to consumer awareness and design-build collaboration. “The Town Hall has since become a cornerstone of our presence at Expo,” Friedman says. “Each year, we convene a panel of experts to tackle a critical issue facing our industry. Over the years, we’ve found that when we create space for honest conversation around the issues that matter most, the industry shows up in a powerful way,” he says. Having exhibited at all 35 editions of CEDIA Expo, the organization continues to view the event as a venue for bringing together integrators, manufacturers, designers and industry leaders while advancing conversations that shape the future of the smart home channel.

SHOW NEWS Innovation, Creativity & Design Thinking: Former Disney Exec Wardle Set for CEDIA Expo 2026 Keynote FORMER DISNEY executive Duncan Wardle will deliver the keynote presentation at CEDIA Expo 2026, September 2 at 8 a.m. in the Mile High Ballroom. According to CEDIA, Wardle’s keynote will focus on innovation, creativity and design thinking, with an emphasis on how custom integration businesses can adapt to evolving technologies and changing client expectations in an increasingly AI-driven market. Artificial intelligence, and the human skills that may become more valuable because of it, appear to be a central theme in many of Duncan Wardle’s publicly available talks and interviews ahead of his upcoming keynote at CEDIA Expo 2026. The timing here couldn’t be better, as the industry is fully embracing AI for both back-end operations and across the smart home user experience. Across keynote clips, podcasts and presentations posted online, the former Disney executive frequently argues that creativity, curiosity, empathy, intuition and imagination will become increasingly important as AI takes over more analytical and repetitive work. A recurring message in Wardle’s talks is that

Duncan Wardle creativity is not limited to a small group of “creative” people but is instead something organizations unintentionally suppress over time. Drawing from his decades at The Walt Disney Company, Wardle often says children naturally think more imaginatively

because they are curious, playful and unafraid of failure, while schools and workplaces train adults to search for only one “right” answer. He also frequently discusses how relaxed mental states—showering, walking, driving or falling asleep—tend to produce stronger ideas than stressful work environments because they allow intuition and subconscious thinking to emerge. Wardle also regularly highlights how Disney approached innovation through customer experience and emotional storytelling rather than purely operational thinking. Wardle previously served as Head of Innovation and Creativity at The Walt Disney Company, where he worked with teams across Disney Parks, Pixar, Marvel, Lucasfilm, Imagineering and Animation. During his 25-year tenure at Disney, he helped develop creative strategies and experiential storytelling initiatives for the company’s entertainment brands. Design-thinking concepts introduced during the keynote will be expanded upon during a CEDIA workshop later that day.

Expo Education: AI, Lighting, Wellness & the Future of Smart Homes in Spotlight As the custom integration industry continues to evolve beyond traditional AV installation, CEDIA Expo 2026’s education program is placing a major emphasis on AI, lighting and shading, cybersecurity, wellness, design-build collaboration, and operational maturity. In a recent conversation with CE Pro Executive Editor Zachary Comeau, CEDIA Senior Conference Strategy Manager Evan West and Vice President of Education & Training Paul Dolenc outlined how this year’s conference programming reflects an industry that is becoming increasingly consultative, collaborative, and technically sophisticated. Artificial intelligence is expected to play a central role throughout the conference curriculum. According to West, roughly 20 sessions are explicitly focused on AI, while AI-related conversations are

expected to appear across nearly every educational track. Rather than treating AI as a novelty topic, CEDIA’s education team says this year’s sessions will focus heavily on practical business applications, workflow efficiencies, predictive smart home technologies, and real-world implementation strategies. Lighting and shading will also receive expanded attention at Expo 2026 with a dedicated lighting education track. West and Dolenc described lighting as one of the most visible and experiential aspects of the modern smart home, particularly as homeowners become more interested in wellness, human-centric lighting, and seamless integration between natural and artificial light. The conversation also highlighted growing concerns around cybersecurity and networking in connected homes, especially as more high-profile home-

owners and remote workers rely on increasingly complex residential technology systems. Sessions planned for Denver will focus not only on technical best practices, but also on helping integrators better communicate cyber hygiene and network security concepts to clients. Additional education planned for CEDIA Expo 2026 will focus on power management, recurring revenue opportunities, service contracts, and strategies for building more operationally mature integration businesses.

SHOW NEWS At CEDIA Expo 2026, Integrator-First Messaging from Lighting Manufacturers Several lighting manufacturers exhibiting at CEDIA Expo 2026 are emphasizing deeper collaboration with custom integrators, while also previewing new architectural lighting, DMX, tunable white, and outdoor lighting solutions slated for this year’s show in Denver. Companies including DMF Lighting, Liteline, AiSPIRE, Oelo Lighting, and ilLumenate Lighting all described the show as a uniquely valuable opportunity to engage directly with integrators and showcase evolving lighting technologies tailored for the channel. Unlike many other smart home categories, lighting remains one of the few technologies that truly benefits from in-person demonstrations. While spec sheets and renderings can communicate features and performance metrics, manufacturers continue to view CEDIA Expo as an opportunity to physically show integrators how dimming curves, color rendering, tunable white transitions, glare control, fixture aesthetics, and outdoor lighting effects actually look in real environments. That experiential aspect continues to make lighting one of the most visually active and heavily demodriven categories on the show floor. Mike Libman, sales vice president of custom integrators at DMF Lighting, described CEDIA Expo as the place where the company has “the most meaningful conversations with the integrator community in one place.” “It’s not just about showing products; it’s about showing intent,” Libman said. “This is where we demonstrate our commitment to the technology integration channel, gather unfiltered feedback from the field, and have real, technical conversations about where lighting is headed in residential luxury projects.” Libman added that DMF plans to continue expanding its Artafex digital lighting ecosystem at this year’s show, including showcasing the company’s new Artafex 1 architectural downlight and updated PhaseX Gateway technology. According to Libman, the company also sees the show as a place where integrators arrive prepared for deeper technical discussions compared to broader industry events. “The conversations here are highly technical and highly practical,” he said. “Attendees aren’t just

browsing; they’re actively solving problems, comparing approaches, and planning upcoming projects.” Patrick Laidlaw, director of business development-integration at WAC Group and AiSPIRE, similarly emphasized the value of direct engagement with integrators and programmers on the show floor. “Because it’s a great platform to show off new products, of course, but moreover interact with our Custom Integrator base and have meaningful conversations about their needs and the needs of the industry,” Laidlaw said. Among the company’s recent launches were the Quartus recessed lighting series and new tunable white Ventrix linear lighting elements. “Now the most revolutionary modular architectural linear system in the industry can deploy dim-towarm or tunable white lighting technology,” Laidlaw said. “This is an industry first.” Laidlaw also pointed to the importance of feedback from installers and programmers at the show. “We get to speak with all levels of Integrator team members for feedback on installation of our products, design, programming, and more,” he said. “Great ideas always come from the people dealing with the products every day.” Looking ahead to CEDIA Expo 2026, Laidlaw teased additional product announcements. “We’ll certainly continue to expand our very successful line of Colorscaping tunable white w/ color landscape lighting, but we’ve got some other surprises planned as well,” he said.

For Liteline, Laura John, channel marketing manager, said the company values the show as both a product showcase and educational platform for the lighting category. “We enjoy exhibiting at CEDIA Expo as it’s a great way to interact with the AV channel to show them what’s new and exciting within lighting,” John said. “We like to take this opportunity to also educate the market on lighting through education sessions.” The company highlighted full-color RGBTW fixtures with DMX integration at the most recent show. “We showcased full-color RGBTW fixtures that are paired with DMX controls for seamless integration into smart home systems,” John said. “These fixtures bring dynamic color capabilities - from rich RGB accents to tunable white, all within compact, high-output designs.” Looking ahead, Liteline plans to continue expanding its DMX-compatible product portfolio while introducing a new low-voltage track system. Jay Divine, president of ilLumenate Lighting, framed the company’s participation around its longstanding roots in the integration channel. “From being an integrator myself for 22 years, and now on the lighting manufacturing side, I know the importance and credibility of this show,” Divine said. He added that the company’s roadmap includes new linear, downlight, and landscape lighting products “designed for integrators only.” Continued on page 39

At CEDIA Expo 2026, Lutron is All-In in All Ways By Zachary Comeau For Ed Blair, it’s difficult to point to a single favorite memory from CEDIA Expo. After attending the event for decades, the Lutron president and vice chairman says the memories tend to blur together: celebrating the retirement of longtime colleagues, reconnecting with customers he’s known for years and watching the custom integration industry evolve alongside the show itself. “There’s so many memories,” Blair said during a recent interview with CE Pro, but one stands out. In the wake of the supply chain disruptions that followed the COVID-19 pandemic, Lutron found itself facing challenges unlike any in its history. Like many manufacturers, the company struggled to secure parts and fulfill orders, leaving customers frustrated and projects delayed. Rather than avoid the issue, Blair used a CEDIA Expo keynote to address it head-on. “Without any notes, I had the chance to stand up there and tell our customers the truth, tell them what we were doing about it, and be very honest with them,” he said. The positive response from dealers reinforced something Blair says has always made CEDIA Expo valuable: the relationships that exist between manufacturers and the integration community. “It really taught me a lot about the commitment we get from our customers, what they think about us and how it’s important to be really open and transparent with them,” Blair said. That relationship is one reason Lutron is increasing its investment in CEDIA Expo 2026, expanding its training opportunities, bringing nearly 100 employees to the show and encouraging the industry to continue supporting what Blair sees as a critical gathering point for manufacturers, integrators and design professionals alike. A 35-YEAR COMMITMENT When Lutron returns to Denver in September, it will be the company’s 35th year exhibiting at the industry’s largest U.S. trade show as CEDIA members. That consistency reflects the company’s long-term view of both the custom integration channel, and the role industry events play in supporting it. “For Lutron, the custom integrator channel is super strategic,” Blair explains. “The ability of that channel to take the products and technology Lutron makes and bring them to life for Ed Blair

our end customers is very important to our future.” According to Blair, CEDIA Expo provides a combination of education, networking and product experiences that is difficult to replicate elsewhere. “CEDIA Expo is the one place that brings together the right people and the right environments—the show floor, the educational sessions, the events—all the spaces that make real connections possible,” he says. MORE THAN A TRADE SHOW For Lutron, those connections extend well beyond sales conversations. Blair says the company views the event as an opportunity for employees across departments to engage directly with customers and better understand the challenges integrators face in the field. Those interactions are one reason the company plans to increase the number of employees it brings to Denver this year, including trainers, engineers, sales personnel and marketing staff. The company is also expanding its educational efforts at the event with more training sessions. “We’re doubling our number of training sessions,” Blair says, adding that Lutron will continue offering its hands-on Lutron Lab, which allows attendees to interact with new products and technologies and the engineers who develop them. EDUCATION, PRODUCT LAUNCHES AND CONNECTIONS For Blair, the value of Expo goes beyond product launches. “It’s the combination of education, launching new products, and connecting with people,” Blair says.

Lutron also sees the show as a way for integrators to strengthen relationships throughout the organization. “Those kinds of connections you just don’t get on a Teams call,” Blair says. The company expects its expanded presence to create more opportunities for dealers to interact directly with Lutron trainers, engineers and executives. WHY LUTRON IS INVESTING MORE THIS YEAR Lutron’s increased commitment comes as some manufacturers have reduced their presence at trade shows or shifted resources to regional events and proprietary dealer gatherings. Blair acknowledged that companies face difficult decisions as event calendars become increasingly crowded. “The calendar is getting more and more crowded,” he says. “People do have to make decisions.” Still, Blair believes the industry benefits from maintaining a strong central gathering place. “We decided to increase our spend, increase our presence, increase our commitment with people, and really try to make sure that the industry understands that Lutron is committed to CEDIA Expo. Period,” Blair says. “ A BIGGER PRESENCE ON THE SHOW FLOOR Lutron’s expanded commitment to CEDIA Expo 2026 will extend beyond education and networking opportunities. Blair said the company is planning a significantly enhanced presence on the show floor, including a new booth experience designed to give attendees a more immersive look at how lighting, shading and control technologies work together throughout the home. The booth will build on Lutron’s longstanding emphasis on experiential demonstrations, allowing

VIP EDITION » CEDIA EXPO 2026 SHOW DAILY « 23 attendees to see firsthand how natural and electric light can be coordinated to create different moods and environments throughout the day. According to Blair, those types of demonstrations often create the most memorable moments for integrators exploring new categories and technologies. Lutron also plans to highlight its latest lighting, shading and outdoor solutions at the show, including products within its Coastal Via lineup. Blair noted that the company has spent the past year refining those offerings to ensure they meet the performance and reliability standards dealers have come to expect from the brand. Beyond its main booth, Lutron will also participate in Destination Outdoors, CEDIA Expo’s dedicated outdoor technology showcase. The company sees the outdoor category as a growing opportunity for integrators as homeowners continue to invest in exterior living spaces that incorporate lighting, shading, audio and control technologies. For Blair, those demonstrations reinforce one of the core reasons Lutron continues to support the event: providing integrators with opportunities to experience products in person rather than through brochures, videos or virtual presentations.

“There’s just no comparing that in-person experience,” Blair said. SUPPORTING THE INDUSTRY ECOSYSTEM Blair says the decision to increase CEDIA Expo investment was driven in part by concerns about attendance trends and what could happen if the industry loses a major annual gathering point. “It’s important not to lose the one space that brings the whole industry together,” he says. “Once you lose it, it’s really hard to get that central show back. And until it’s gone, you don’t realize all the value it had to the industry.” Drawing from his experience in the commercial lighting market, Blair says he has seen how fragmentation among events can weaken participation and reduce opportunities for collaboration. The result, he says, can be an industry that lacks a central destination for education, networking and business development. HELPING INTEGRATORS GROW THEIR BUSINESSES Beyond product demonstrations, Blair sees CEDIA Expo as a catalyst for business growth and education, particularly as lighting becomes a larger

part of many integration firms’ businesses. “Education is one of the most important things,” he says. “Where else can you go and get some of your key people into four, five, six critical training sessions in one visit?” He also pointed to lighting as an example of how CEDIA Expo can expose integrators to new business opportunities and revenue streams. “And then these inspirational moments when you see something new and it triggers something. You say to yourself, ‘You know what? I could be in that business,’” Blair says. “I could really transform what I maybe thought my business was six, nine, 12 months ago.’” AN INVESTMENT IN THE FUTURE For dealers still weighing whether to attend CEDIA Expo 2026, Blair acknowledged that this year’s schedule may create challenges. However, he believes the long-term benefits outweigh the inconvenience. “People I’ve known for a long time say, ‘I didn’t anticipate seeing this’ or ‘I didn’t anticipate learning that,’” Blairsays. “Even if you’re not sure what you’re going to see, you’re going to see something that will trigger inspiration.”

SHOW NEWS CEDIA Expo 2026 Spotlights Lighting in Luxury Integrated Living CEDIA Expo continues to solidify its position as the premier event for residential lighting, controls, shading and integrated living technologies. Bringing together North America’s largest audience of residential system integrators, designers, and architects, the event reflects the growing importance of lighting in today’s connected residential environments. As lighting continues to shape design, wellness, and overall performance in the modern home environment, CEDIA Expo intends to showcase lighting as part of a fully integrated ecosystem. At CEDIA Expo 2026, attendees will be able to explore how automation, shading, audio, security and wellness systems work together with lighting to create luxury home environments that redefine how these spaces should look, feel, and function. “Lighting is no longer a standalone category; it is a foundational layer of the connected environment,” said Jason McGraw, Group Vice President and Show Director, CEDIA Expo. “What distinguishes CEDIA Expo is the opportunity to see how lighting, controls, shading, and automation integrate seamlessly in realworld applications. This level of integration, along with the audience that appreciates it, is unique to this event.” LIGHTING, SHADING CONTINUE EXCEPTIONAL CATEGORY GROWTH According to CEDIA’s 2023 Smart Home Market Analysis, lighting and shading control systems are among the categories with the highest rate of growth. This correlates with CE Pro’s 2026 Lighting & Shading Deep Dive which found that, in addition to being highly profitable on its own, the category exhibits incredible growth potential for other integrated living solutions when sold together. These findings were reported directly by integrators themselves. This shift highlights the ever-growing importance of CEDIA Expo and its ability to gather the residential integration industry together under one roof.

Jay Divine, President of ilLumenate Lighting, notes, “CEDIA Expo is where you meet the smartest minds in home integration. We’ve seen technology get smarter and smarter each year, and platforms like this allow us to stay abreast of the innovations. It’s the most comprehensive venue where residential lighting for interior and outdoor environments is considered in the context of whole-home integration and manifests in cross-brand collaborations, industry panels, keynotes, and, ultimately, better business for the brands, designers, and integrators! This makes CEDIA Expo a must on our calendar every year.” LIGHTING AND SHADING AT CEDIA EXPO2026 The 2026 exhibit hall features a comprehensive lineup of leading and emerging lighting, control, and shading brands-presented within the context of fully integrated systems. Brands including AiSPIRE/WAC, DMF Lighting, and Proluxe by American Lighting highlight the innovation shaping the category, while technology leaders such as Lutron, Crestron, Savant, Nice, and URC demonstrate how lighting serves as a central control layer within the connected home. Motorized shading and daylight management further extend this ecosystem, with companies like Somfy and PowerShades demonstrating how comfort, wellness, and energy performance are increasingly interconnected. Outdoor living is represented by brands including

Coastal Source, while emerging specialty solutions further underscore the range of new ideas shaping the category. Attendees can explore the full list of participating lighting and shading companies here. EXPERTS WEIGH IN ON REAL-WORLD APPLICATIONS A key differentiator of CEDIA Expo is its conference program, developed and led by the CEDIA Association, the global authority for the integrated technology industry. SHOW NEWS

Trending Topic at Expo: Resi Power Management, Energy Integration By Zachary Comeau As smart home systems become more interconnected and reliant on continuous connectivity, power management is emerging as a larger area of focus for integrators serving luxury and upper-tier residential projects. According to organizers of CEDIA Expo, topics including power conditioning, backup power, energy monitoring, EV integration, and Power over Ethernet (PoE) infrastructure are expected to receive increased attention at the 2026 event. Show organizers say modern residential projects increasingly require collaboration among systems integrators, electricians, HVAC contractors, and energy professionals to ensure home technology systems operate reliably and efficiently. These projects often involve integrating power management strategies with lighting, shading, networking, security, entertainment, solar, battery storage, and electric vehicle charging systems. “The assumption of power is taken for granted,” said Jason McGraw, vice president and show director for CEDIA Expo, in a statement. “Systems integration professionals take nothing for granted but instead look at home systems comprehensively and

holistically to ensure the best outcomes in terms of system performance, experiences delivered and efficiencies gained.” MANUFACTURERS HIGHLIGHT POWER AND ENERGY TECHNOLOGIES Among the exhibitors expected to showcase power-related technologies at the event are companies focused on power conditioning, surge protection, energy management, backup power infrastructure, and outdoor power solutions. Featured exhibitors include Torus Power, which specializes in toroidal isolation transformers for AV and control systems; SurgeX, known for surge protection and power conditioning products; Shelly, which offers smart energy monitoring and load management solutions; and Tycon Systems, a new exhibitor focused on PoE infrastructure. Outdoor heating manufacturer Infratech is also expected to highlight power-related solutions for outdoor living spaces. EXPO EDUCATION ADDRESSES ENERGY MANAGEMENT CHALLENGES Power and energy management will also be addressed through several educational sessions during the event. Planned sessions include a Smart Stage

presentation titled “Energy Management: Why Energy is the Real Issue Behind Smart Home System Issues,” which will examine topics such as power conditioning, battery storage, and intelligent load management. This session is exclusively sponsored by Savant and will feature the company’s experts on the topic. Additional education sessions will explore power considerations in lighting systems and EV integration, including vehicle-to-load (V2L) technology that enables electric vehicles to serve as backup power sources for homes. McGraw said the increasing complexity of connected home environments has made power infrastructure a foundational component of overall system performance. “Every element of the system, especially power, needs to work holistically together to deliver the experience,” he said. “Homeowner experiences are contingent on whether power to the Wi-Fi router is dropping out; whether power to the amp is clean; whether networked exercise equipment is continually rebooting; whether garage doors and electric locks operate; and whether webcams are on or off.”

With Major Expo Presence, Kaleidescape Celebrates 25 Years of Innovation By Zachary Comeau As Kaleidescape celebrates its 25th anniversary, the company is looking both backward at a quarter century of innovation and forward to what it believes is the next evolution of premium home entertainment. During a conversation with CE Pro Executive Editor Zachary Comeau, Kaleidescape Chairman and CEO Tayloe Stansbury previewed the company’s largest-ever CEDIA Expo presence, highlighted the launch of the new Strato K movie player, and discussed how new technologies like the 4K Cinematic video format are raising the bar for immersive home cinema. The anniversary comes after what Stansbury described as five years of accelerated innovation under his leadership. During that time, Kaleidescape expanded its product portfolio with lower-cost entry points like the Strato V, helping more than double its user base before introducing its newest flagship

platform, Strato K. To commemorate the milestone, Kaleidescape has launched several anniversary initiatives, including a 25th anniversary press release featuring a quote from filmmaker Martin Scorsese, a filmmaker tribute video celebrating the company’s impact on premium movie presentation, and special Movie Store collections. Those collections include the most popular movie from each year of Kaleidescape’s 25-year history, as well as a curated list of the top 25 animated films available on the platform. STRATO K AND 4K CINEMATIC PUSH HOME THEATER FORWARD The company’s latest milestone is the launch of Strato K, which arrives on the heels of the anniversary celebration. While the platform is capable of 8K playback and is the first player certified by the 8K Association for 8K playback, Stansbury said the more immediate innovation is 4K Cinematic.

Rather than focusing solely on higher resolution, 4K Cinematic increases overall picture fidelity through full 4:4:4 chroma processing and significantly higher bitrates than competing platforms, including physical 4K Blu-ray discs. According to Stansbury, the result is richer color, finer detail and a more immersive viewing experience while positioning the platform for future native 8K content as it becomes more widely available. WHAT TO EXPECT AT CEDIA EXPO 2026 At the Kaleidescape booth, dealers and integrators can see demonstrations of Strato K and 4K Cinematic across multiple display technologies, including the company’s flagship theater demonstration. The company will also host several can’t-miss events during the show. On Wednesday, Sept. 2, from 4-5 p.m., Kaleidescape will celebrate its 25th anniversary in collaboration with CEDIA at Booth 3706, with all attendees welcome.

SHOW NEWS Motion Sensor Innovations in CEDIA Expo 2026 Spotlight At CEDIA Expo 2026, residential and commercial systems integrators will discover how motion detection and occupancy sensing are driving new opportunities in security, automation, comfort, and safety. The show will feature various manufacturers demonstrating motion-sensing technologies that drive everything from smart home automation to security monitoring and building efficiency. “Motion sensors can initiate experiences such as opening shades as occupants enter a room, adjusting climate settings based on presence, activating music or video displays, and triggering lighting scenes throughout the home,” said Jason McGraw, Show Director for CEDIA Expo. “It’s a core component behind many of the experiences homeowners and businesses want today - from responsive lighting and security alerts to fully automated environments that adapt to how people move through a space.” For integrators looking to expand beyond residential projects, motion-sensing technologies represent a natural bridge into commercial opportunities. Occupancy detection plays a key role in energy management systems, enabling lighting, HVAC, and other building functions to operate only when spaces are in use. At the same time, motion detection remains a core component of integrated security systems for offices, retail environments, and hospitality venues. “Many integrators already install motion sensors as part of residential systems,” McGraw said. “Those same technologies can deliver tremendous value in

commercial spaces where efficiency, security, and automation all depend on knowing when a space is occupied.” MOTION SENSING TECHNOLOGIES ACROSS THE SHOW FLOOR The latest generation of motion sensing moves well beyond traditional passive infrared. Dual-technology sensors (PIR + microwave), radar-based detection, presence sensing capable of identifying subtle human movement, and multimodal detection systems are dramatically reducing false triggers while improving responsiveness and coverage. The show floor will feature a wide range of manufacturers demonstrating the latest in motion-sensing technology. Exhibitors, including Nice, Lutron, and Crestron, as well as a wide range of security and control system manufacturers, will be on hand with products spanning the full residential and commercial security ecosystem. “CEDIA Expo continues to offer meaningful opportunities for connection across the industry, and experiencing it firsthand always provides a valuable perspective,” said Michael Short, VP of Marketing Operations and Residential at Crestron Electronics. “Motion sensing lighting for us isn’t just about lighting; it’s a core element of how a home responds to the people living in it. At Crestron, it’s one piece of a wider ecosystem where every input, every trigger, works together to craft a truly intelligent and personalized environment for our clients.”

The company highlighted its permanent holiday lighting systems, Evolution control platform, and AI-powered Josh.ai integrations as part of its broader outdoor smart lighting strategy. “These products address real installer needs— reliable, low-maintenance, energy-efficient exterior lighting—while positioning OELO as a leader in permanent solutions for the growing smart outdoor market,” Rodarmel said. The comments collectively point to lighting manufacturers continuing to position themselves not simply as fixture providers, but as long-term technology and integration partners for the CI channel heading into CEDIA Expo.

IWALLET 2.0 Payment compliance has become increasingly complicated as more contractors adopt credit card surcharging. Many businesses unknowingly violate card network rules by charging more than the permitted surcharge or by applying surcharges to debit cards. iWallet 2.0 helps businesses stay within current payment rules while automatically managing PCI compliance. The platform reduces the burden of maintaining payment security standards and helps protect customer payment information without requiring extra work from office staff. Instead of worrying about changing regulations, contractors can focus on running their business while iWallet handles compliance behind the scenes. iwallet.com | Booth #C915
