The dog days of summer are upon us. I guess it was a mistake to say we could use a little rain! After an incredibly wet spring, May brought 10.5 inches of rainfall, with June close behind at 8 inches. The abundant rainfall has made it challenging for our team to keep up with the rapid turf growth, but we remain committed to staying ahead of it.
The greens project continues to progress nicely. We anticipate sprigging the first nine greens during the week of July 6, with the second nine scheduled for the week of July 20. In June, we also completed the Member Range tee expansion project, which is expected to open sometime in September.
Both courses were successfully aerified in June, and everything went according to plan. Our primary objective was to aerify all playing surfaces, excluding the roughs, and we accomplished that goal. A significant amount of thatch and organic matter was removed, which will improve turf health and help provide outstanding playing conditions throughout the remainder of the growing season. I’ll see you on the course!
As we gather to celebrate Independence Day, we are reminded that this year carries special significance as our nation begins commemorating America's 250th birthday a milestone that honors the spirit, resilience, and traditions that have brought generations together
At Golf Club of Houston, there is no better way to celebrate than with great food, good friends, and cherished family traditions Our Fireworks on the Fairway celebration promises an unforgettable evening filled with delicious food, festive beverages, fellowship, and a spectacular fireworks display that will light up the night sky.
Events like these are what make our Club so special. They provide opportunities to reconnect with friends, create lasting memories with loved ones, and celebrate the values of community and camaraderie that define both our country and our Club
On behalf of our entire Food & Beverage team, thank you for allowing us to be part of your celebrations We look forward to serving you and your guests as we come together to honor our nation's heritage and enjoy an evening of food, fellowship, and family fun.
We wish you a safe, happy, and memorable Independence Day and look forward to seeing you at Fireworks on the Fairway!

Unilateral
If you ’ re looking to improve your golf swing, it might be time to try reaching for a dumbbell vs your favorite club. Give unilateral exercises a shot movements that train one side of the body at a time can play a big role in building a stronger, more balanced swing.
Golf is naturally asymmetrical You swing from one side, rotate in one direction, and rely on each side of your body to do different jobs That’s where unilateral training shines It helps correct strength imbalances, improves coordination, and builds stability in each leg and each side of the core Compared to traditional bilateral movements which can exacerbate imbalances, unilateral work better matches the demands of a real golf swing.
Here are three great options to add to your routine.
Single-Leg Romanian Deadlift This exercise develops balance and strengthens the hamstrings and glutes, which are essential for power generation By working one leg at a time, it forces your body to stabilize through the hips and core, helping you stay centered during your swing Better stability here can lead to more consistent contact and improved control
Split Squats (or Bulgarian Split Squats) Split squats build strength in each leg independently, which is key for proper weight transfer from backswing to downswing. They also improve mobility in the hips and control in the lower body, both of which are critical for maintaining posture and generating a smooth, powerful motion.
Single-Arm Cable Rotations This exercise closely mimics the rotational pattern of a golf swing Training one side at a time helps strengthen your core while improving sequencing how your body moves from the ground up This can translate into more efficient power and better swing mechanics Adding unilateral exercises to your routine helps ensure your body is strong, balanced, and ready to support a better swing.
