Co Curricular Booklet Boys Prep Autumn 2026

Page 1

Autumn Term 2026

Introduction

At Habs Boys Prep, we offer over 75 clubs and societies.

The depth and breadth of our co-curricular programme offers superb opportunities for each student to excel academically while also pursuing their personal interests

Every student will have a unique experience and, over the course of a year, is encouraged to develop and pursue existing skills and interests alongside trying new activities. Everyone will engage with the lunchtime programme and students from Key Stage 1 are also invited to select activities from the afterschool and sports provision. Sessions are led by members of our teaching community as well as specialist coaches and external providers. Selected activities are run in collaboration with Haberdashers’ Girls’ School.

Co-curricular key information

Register of Interest

Registering interest in co-curricular activities is done on SOCS. Please see the guide on how to do this on pages 14-18.

Please take time to review the before school, afterschool and paid activities on offer with your child and express your interest on SOCS for the relevant activities by 5pm on Wednesday 1 July 2026.

Please note that by selecting an activity you are expressing interest - this does not guarantee your child a space if the maximum number of students is reached.

Non-paid lunch time activities will be chosen in school, in September.

Reception and Key Stage 1 pupils are expected to attend a minimum of 1 cocurricular activity each week.

Key Stage 2 pupils are free to choose the number of activities they wish to attend. It is recommended that pupils engage in a minimum of 4 co-curricular activities per week (including sport and music commitments) - ideally spread over lunchtimes and after school; especially for Year 3 pupils.

Students are not permitted to attend more than one club during lunchtime on any given day – including sport and music commitments. For pupils that choose two clubs in one lunchtime, the school reserves the right to make a choice on their behalf.

Allocation of co-curricular activities

Where an activity builds upon skills and learning from previous terms, priority will be given to those pupils already attending. If an activity has not reached its maximum capacity, places will be offered first to any pupils who were unsuccessful in gaining a place the previous term. Any remaining places will be allocated randomly to pupils who have registered interest.

Whilst every effort is made to allocate pupils the activities, they have expressed interest in, there may be instances where an activity is oversubscribed. When this occurs, a waiting list will be created, and you will be contacted should a space become available.

After 5pm on Wednesday 1 July, you will no longer be able to register your interest for wraparound and paid lunch time co-curricular activities on SOCS.

You will be notified if your son is unsuccessful in securing a place for the activities that you have selected by 5pm Wednesday 8 July.

Co-curricular key information

Attendance

Co-curricular clubs are a termly commitment and the cost listed in this booklet reflects a pupil's participation in all sessions (excluding residentials and trips). By signing up for a club, pupils commit to attending for the full term and places cannot be withdrawn or changed part way through the term. We are therefore unable to offer refunds or make exceptions for sessions missed due to medical appointments, illness, fixtures or other commitments.

If there is a known reason that they cannot attend, students must endeavour to let the teacher running the session know ahead of the session so this can be marked in the register.

Reception and Key Stage 1 pupils – a note in their Message Book will suffice.

Chargeable Activities

As co-curricular activities are now a termly commitment, the cost shown for each activity reflects participation for the full term. Full details can be found within the activity descriptions in this booklet. All charges will be processed via Evolve Pay.

Cancellation of Activities

Where possible, if the teacher is unable to lead their activity, it will be run by another member of staff. There may be occasions where an activity needs to be cancelled at short notice. Parents will be notified by email or by phone, as appropriate.

Collection – after-school activities

Unless stated otherwise, for all activities taking place at Habs Boys, pupils should be met at the Boys’ Prep School Reception.

For all activities taking place at Habs Girls’, pupils should be met in the Girls’ Junior School playground at the end of their afterschool activities.

Children who are not collected at the end of their club will wait either at the Girls’ Junior or Boys’ Prep School reception, respectively. If a child is consistently collected late, they may no longer be able to participate in the activity.

Packed Lunch

If your child is allocated an activity that requires a packed lunch, they can either opt for a grab ‘n’ go lunch option before their club or bring their own packed lunch from home –to be consumed after their club in the Bates dining room.

After-school Care

After-school care is not available to Year 1-2 pupils after attending a club at the Girls’ School. Year 3-6 pupils who are attending after-school care or travelling on the late coach service may make their way there unaccompanied.

As after-school care is run by an external provider after 4pm in the Boys' Pre-Prep Hall, any pupils who are not pre-booked into after-school care will not be able to attend due to insurance restrictions.
