For Kristin, who moved for a role in Human Resources, the biggest surprise about moving to Southeastern Pennsylvania was not any one thing.

It did not take long for her to realize what that actually meant in day-to-day life. Trading Traffic for Time D’Albert, who joined Penske’s Digital Solutions and Innovation Team, knows exactly what it’s like to get hours of your life back. “Since I’ve been commuting in Los Angeles for over 20 years, I was excited to discover that everything I need for daily living is within a few minutes’ drive.”

Two decades of LA traffic means D’Albert has stories.

The kind where a 15-mile commute takes 90 minutes.

Where sitting in your car feels like a second job. “I was spending hours a day just getting to and from work,” he recalls. “That’s time you never get back.”

The shift to Southeastern Pennsylvania completely transformed his daily routine. Suddenly, his commute is 15 minutes instead of two hours. The grocery store is five minutes away and running errands

What makes Bill’s perspective unique? He actually grew up here. Born and raised in Wyomissing, Pennsylvania, he left to pursue opportunities elsewhere but eventually returned. “I’ve seen a lot of different places, but there’s something special about this area that kept pulling me back,” he says.

Coming from San Antonio, Chris was pretty much done with the extremely hot Texas summers.

“I welcomed the opportunity to actually experience four real seasons,” he says. And honestly? It’s been a game changer. Spring brings those gorgeous gardens and perfect hiking weather. Summer is warm but totally manageable, nothing like the brutal Texas heat. Fall delivers the kind of foliage you see in screensavers. And winter?

I actually enjoy a wide range of winter activities. Having actual seasons creates this nice rhythm to the year where each month feels different and gives you something to look forward to.”

The variety of stuff to do is pretty amazing: one Saturday you might be walking the same streets where the Declaration of Independence was signed, and the next you’re at a farmers market in Lancaster County soaking in a completely different vibe. Chris and his wife have figured out that the changing seasons basically unlock different activities all year long. Winter means skiing in the Poconos, a short drive from his home in Reading, PA, which used to require a 12-hour trip (one way) when they lived in Texas. Spring and fall are perfect for hitting the trails and checking out historic sites. Summer brings outdoor concerts, festivals and easy beach runs.

The region’s got this rare mix of culture, history and natural beauty, all close enough that you’re not spending your whole day in the car. For Chris, it’s not just about having a bunch of things to do. It’s about living somewhere that actually makes you want to get outside, stay active and keep exploring.

After years in a place that basically had two seasons (blazing hot and slightly less blazing hot), the whole four-season thing has become one of his favorite surprises about making the move.

Finding the Right Fit for Family Saravanan wasn’t about to relocate his family of four without doing his homework. Originally considering Tampa, he ultimately chose Southeastern Pennsylvania after thorough research focused on one clear priority: what would work best for his wife and two kids.

“I looked at access to schools, hospitals, groceries and other amenities. Everything needed to be near home,” Saravanan explains. With a nine-year-old and a two-year-old, good schools were non-negotiable and daily conveniences couldn’t be an afterthought.

Already familiar with Penske from his time in Pittsburgh, Saravanan saw the Reading opportunity as his next career move. But first, he needed to see it for himself. He made the drive from Pittsburgh, walked the areas and complemented that visit with

extensive online research. Starting with Reading as his center point, he mapped out a 25- to 30-minute radius to find the right community.

The commute was a key factor. “I thought Philadelphia would be too far, so I chose Exton.”

He wanted to be present for his family, not spending his life in the car.

What surprised him most? How much he appreciated the change of pace.

His takeaway for others considering a similar move?

“Do your research, visit if you can and focus on what matters most to your family.” For Saravanan, Southeastern Pennsylvania delivered: excellent schools, accessible amenities, a reasonable commute and a calm environment where his kids can grow up.

I really like the countryside versus the city I was used to. It’s a calm area.”

Exton gave him the best of both worlds: a populated area with plenty of stores and amenities, yet still connected to the peaceful, scenic areas around Reading.

He gave himself three months to make it happen, handling most of the logistics on his own with a focus on family needs. Finding the right apartment and coordinating the move were the biggest challenges, but nothing insurmountable.

One thing that made him smile: most people he talked to had never heard of Reading. “They referred to it as the Philadelphia suburbs.” In a way, that’s perfect. You get major metro proximity without the hassles of actually living there.

Now settled in Exton, Saravanan is still discovering what the region offers. He’s told his family they won’t be relocating again anytime soon. This is home now, and they’re building their life here.

When she mentioned she was considering the move, colleagues created maps for her, highlighting neighborhoods and pointing out hidden gems.

Her husband would be able to find opportunities in the area as well, which was critical. This couldn’t just work for her. It would have to work for both of them.
