COMMUNITY STUDENT OF THE MONTH
The students at David W. Carter High School and striving to make a dfference. Many students are apart of extra curriucular actvities, attend college at Dallas College, work, and are involved on campus. With all of the challenges our students find ways to succeed and find ways to motivate and inspire others. Univision is an American Spanish-language television network owned by TelevisaUnivision. Univision’s roots can be traced back to 1955 when Mr. Cortez started KCOR-TV. Just this past week, Univision reached out to David W. Carter High to highlight the scholastic achievements of two of our collegiate students. Julian Alvarado and Valerie Borja. Both students will be graduating this year from Dallas College with their Associates Degree and David W. Carter High School with their High School Diploma. Thank you Univision for partnering with DISD and recognizing our students. Article by Aiden Carter Pictures by Destiny Hernandez

Get Out and Vote
Voting is your right, and it is important to exercise your right to vote! AKA Organization 2026 If we had the time, we would tell you the story of those that were not given the opportunity to vote in the past. Today, voting restrictions have been put in place and many polling sites have been closed. This has been done to ensure the integrity of the voting system and that the votes cast can be counted accurately. At least, this is what we have been told. Voting is your right. You have the right to choose your elected leaders and voting provides you with the opportunity to do just that. The AKA organization came to our school to explain the voting process and to ensure that those that are eligible to vote register. Even though we are one person, we are glad to be able to make a difference and serve our community says the representative from the AKA organization. We look forward to coming to Carter and visiting with the seniors. We have high expectations for these students and we have high expectations for you. Voting is soon. Be sure you become more aware of the issues and take time to review the candidates. Then make your decision and cast your vote. By Destiny Hernadez Photos by Jermaine Bausby

CARTER BY JOHNAVON WARREN FALL FOOTBALL
Playing With A Focused Mindset! Football is an awesome sport that requires speed, agility, but most of all experience! By Coach Jones

CARTER The M.O.B. The Dallas Carter Cowboys has been a culturally significant legacy in Texas High School football history. Located in Oak Cliff the program is famous for its intense games from local rivalries and its continued presence in the Texas 4A Division 1 Football. Coach Joanes, the athletic director, says that he has high and positive expectations for the 2026-2027 Carter football season. After the first couple of games and shaking off a few early season jitters the team now understand that preparation, focus, and discipline is key. Also, the team understands each other a lot more and are working together to win. The team’s defesensive pressure is their strong suit with continuous fumbles and interceptions keeping games from slipping away. So far, in the our district games they have held teams to under 14 points.
Carter Cowboys! The offense continues to make progress and improve. As a matter of fact, the offense is coming along nicely. Specifically, the offense is coming along after having to develop our new quarterback. Good things take time to form and as the quote says, “If there is no struggle, there is no progress.” If there is struggle, then hopefully there’s progress. Early changes are a sign that we as a football team are moving out of what is familiar and stretching past whee you are now. Thank you Coach Gilbert and Staff for your amazing work with our football team. By Johnavon Warren

Welcome David W. Carter Collegiate 10th Grade Ambassadors Leadership is an important skill and it is always great to see student leaders. The David W. Carter Collegiate Academy is proud to announce the 10th grade Ambassadors. These students were chosen for this opportunity because of their leadership skills, grades, and great attitude. In addition, these students are respected by their peers. Ambassadors are student leaders that engage in many did types of activites on campus and off campus. You will see these students being active on campus. Also, these students are very knowledgable about school work. If you have a question, feel free to ask them a question. HOMECOMING DWC HOMECOMING WEEK 2026-2027
The Legacy Continues

The Best School in Dallas ISD David W. Carter High School Homecoming week was one of the most fun and exciting weeks at school. Everyone got involved by dressing up for the different spirit days and showing their school spirit. It was a great way for students to have fun together and make memories. One of my favorite spirit days was 2016 vs. 2026. Students dressed up to represent different styles from both years. It was fun seeing everyone’s outfits and how creative people were with their looks. Another fun day was Favorite Artist Day. Students dressed like their favorite artists and showed off their own style. Everyone looked different, and it made the school feel more exciting and full of energy. The homecoming pep rally was the best part of the week. The music, cheering, performances, and school spirit made it feel amazing. Overall, homecoming week was a fun experience that brought everyone together and created memories I will always remember.

David W. Carter High School 19career Taking a Law class Prepares you for the Future Not just A Mr. Garrett works at David W. Carter High School as a Law Teacher and Tennis Coach. This is his 17th year in education and 13th year teaching a Carter. His reason for teaching at Carter is because Mr. Garrett desires to serve as a role model and work with students that attend our campus.
Mr. Garrett wanted to teach law to students because he wants them to understand that law isn’t against you and if you want to change it, you have to understand it. His love for tennis started back when he was in high school just like his love for law. Mr. Garrett played tennis in high school and now he coaches tennis and could not be more excited about the talent that our students bring to the game. 02.05.2028
Meet Mr. Garrett REMEMBER WHERE YOU STARTED!

The classes that Mr. Garrett teaches are more than just a class that’s needed to complete or pursue areas in criminal justice. These classes are more than that. They provide all students with opportunities and ideas of various areas that a student can pursue in crminal justice. Students also learn critical thinking skills, healthy communication traits, problem solving skills, and leadership skills. The Senior Class recommends taking these classes because as the world changes we must keep current on laws passed and learn effective strategies to help everyone interact with authority. Mr. Garrett thank you for all that you do here at David W. Carter High School. Students when you see Mr. Garrett ask him a question and he will give you the answer.
