A note from our directors

From the concert hall to the global stage, this spring concert traces a musical thread from Beethoven to Beyoncé, revealing how powerful ideas in music are passed on, transformed, and re-imagined over time.

Each piece in tonight’s programme has been carefully selected and sequenced to highlight musical and stylistic conventions that could ambitiously link two artists from very different periods of time. As you listen, you’ll hear how techniques rooted in Classical and Romantic music echo through later styles, and how popular and music theatre repertoire continues the tradition of innovation, influence, and human emotion. The concert unfolds like a musical tapestry, with every item growing naturally out of the one before it.

Every child in Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 has contributed to this performance. Through singing, playing, and performing, pupils have explored how musical traditions evolve and influence.

With grateful thanks to our visiting music teachers and music staff who have accompanied, conducted and supported rehearsals and performances, and our estates and technical teams, whose expertise and behind-the-scenes work have made this concert possible. Please enjoy the performance. Mr Woodward and Miss Rockley
