On Tuesday, May 13, 2025, the Darren Waller Foundation hosted its 6th annual Beyond the Wall event at the stunning M Resort Spa Casino. It was an unforgettable evening filled with inspiration, connection, and purpose.

The night began with a live musical performance by Darren Waller, setting the tone for a powerful evening of storytelling and support. Guests were moved by a heartfelt on-stage conversation as Darren interviewed two of the Foundation’s grantees, both proudly celebrating over eight months of sobriety. Their stories were a living reminder of the strength and possibility found in recovery.

The energy carried into an exciting live auction featuring signed memorabilia and football tosses with Darren himself, all to raise funds in support of youth and young adults on their recovery journey.

WestCare Nevada was proud to attend and reconnect with Darren and his team. Just a day earlier, Darren joined us for a special belated Mother’s Day visit at our Women and Children’s Campus, where he celebrated the women and families we serve, another meaningful example of his ongoing commitment to uplifting those in recovery.

We’re honored to partner with the Darren Waller Foundation to show that recovery works and that, with the support of passionate leaders like Darren, brighter futures are not just possible; they’re happening.

“Being part of this year’s Beyond the Wall event was incredibly moving. Darren’s authenticity, his connection to the recovery community, and the way he uses his platform to uplift others is truly powerful. At WestCare, we believe in second chances and the strength of community, and partnering with the Darren Waller Foundation reminds us just how impactful that support can be.”

Darren Waller Visits the Women and Children’s Campus for a Mother’s Day Celebration

WestCare Nevada was honored with a visit from three generations of Robert “Bob” McNutt’s family – his daughter, granddaughter, and great granddaughter, who came not to discuss policy or programming, but to donate Girl Scout cookies to staff and clients. The sweet moment was a fitting tribute to the legacy of McNutt, one of WestCare’s earliest board members and its first Board Chair. In 1973 Las Vegas, McNutt helped establish the Fitzsimmons House, a modest substance abuse treatment center which would eventually grow into the national nonprofit known today as WestCare.

Deeply committed to uplifting those facing addiction and adversity, McNutt not only helped launch the organization but also played a pivotal role in shaping its leadership by hiring Dick Steinberg, now WestCare’s president. After hearing of the visit, Mr. Steinberg remarked, “He hired me, and he was also very instrumental in us getting Harris Springs Ranch!” McNutt remained involved for decades as a dedicated board member and chair emeritus, witnessing the agency grow from a single residential program to a network of services spanning states and territories. His legacy of service, compassion, and community-building continues to inspire generations, right down to one young Girl Scout carrying his spirit forward.

In observance of Memorial Day and in honor of their service, Veterans at the Women and Children’s Campus (WCC) enjoyed a delicious barbecue prepared by WCC Cook Mr. Henry. Clients were very grateful of the gesture, with one saying, “Thank you and it is our pleasure – the veterans – to follow and obey our calling to do such.”

Accompanying the meal was a token of appreciation from Program Director Irma Magrdichian (above left) and a special message prepared for the Veterans:

Good Morning!

On behalf of WestCare Nevada,

We at the WCC extend our deepest gratitude to you for your service to our nation. Your courage and dedication have protected the freedoms we all cherish. We are honored to support you as you have so honorably supported America.

Thank you for your service.
