Historic Fifth Street School Mayor’s Gallery Please join us for the second annual collaborative exhibition program with the city of Las Vegas and the Consulate of Mexico in Las Vegas. The exhibition each year focuses on a unique theme and a call for art is presented to the community. This exhibition celebrates all the fabulous artwork entered for the year. We welcome you to attend the reception to honor the artists and to present awards for the best of show and first place.

We welcome the community to visit this distinctive exhibition. Attendees will have access to a walk down memory lane, with a focus on legendary actress, singer, and dancer Debbie Reynolds, who had a career that spanned more than 70 years and earned her an Emmy, Tony, Golden Globes, and Academy Award nominations and awards. Debbie Reynolds in Las Vegas explores this talented trailblazer’s impact in Las Vegas from her years performing at the Riviera, Desert Inn, and South Point, to owning the Debbie Reynolds Hollywood Hotel. The exhibition includes Reynolds’ exquisite gowns, stage costumes, letters, photos, memorabilia from iconic performances, and her personal memories.

SECOS is an alternative rock band from Las Vegas. The Mexican American group fuses their sound with influences from iconic acts like Interpol, Franz Ferdinand, The Strokes, and Arctic Monkeys. Food trucks will offer refreshments for sale. Bring lawn chairs and blankets for seating.

Historic Westside School Centennial Celebration Parade & Festival Saturday, Sept. 30 | Parade 10 a.m.; Festival 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. FREE event | All Ages Historic Westside School The Historic Westside School Centennial Celebration begins with a parade. The event continues with a day-long festival. The festival features entertainment by local performing artists, an artisan marketplace, community resource exhibitors, tours of the Historic Westside School, Pop-Up Rec Kids Zone and tasty food vendors. The theme of the celebration is “Then and Now,” presented in collaboration with the Westside School Alumni Foundation. The Historic Westside School is the oldest standing school building in the city of Las Vegas (1923-2023).

Both the novel and the play tell the disturbing tale of a group of British school boys stranded on an island and the tension caused by fear and power. This will be the Las Vegas debut of “Lord of the Flies,” since it was first professionally produced by the Royal Shakespeare Company at Stratford-upon-Avon in July 1995.

Together, Rose Kingsley and Larry Wayne will bring you the best of Webber’s music from “The Phantom of the Opera,” “Cats,” “Jesus Christ Superstar,” and more. Modern Romanticism Exhibition Artist Reception Friday, Oct. 13 | 5-7 p.m. FREE Admission Charleston Heights Art Center Gallery Please join us for the exhibition reception and learn about Modern Romanticism and the Romantic Art Movement of the past. The Romantic Movement was a time when artists tried to stay away from creating the ideally objective, classically defined images and sculptures of the past and instead went for more emotionally raw descriptions of man and nature and sometimes both intertwined as if battling each other. This period started toward the end of the 18th century in Europe and was at its peak from 1800 to 1850.

Join us for a night of sultry French café jazz under the stars at Bruce Trent Park! Lumière Noire is a French café jazz ensemble based in Las Vegas. The group is fronted by French Canadian singer Cassie Stone, and features some of Las Vegas’ finest jazz musicians. They play a broad range of French-style jazz, including old classics, (e.g., Edith Piaf), and a range of more contemporary music in that style. Lumière Noire is like passport to another world – an evening spent in Paris, without leaving Las Vegas.
Historic Fifth Street School Hear keynote speakers, celebrity authors and other writers across all genres, ages and cultural backgrounds as they share their work and creative process. Festival attendees will enjoy book signings, readings, workshops, vendor exhibits and other special programs. Local food trucks will sell refreshments. Public Employee Art Exhibition provides a spotlight for those artistic citizens who are retired or currently employed working for city, state, or county agencies. Each artist who submits is asked to enter up to two pieces that highlight their strongest current artwork. The artists were asked to enter their artwork or to explore new work on the topic of “artists as agents of change.”

Concerts in the Park: Asteroid M Halloween Block Party Saturday, Oct. 28 | 7-11 p.m. FREE event | All Ages Third Street Promenade Asteroid M Records is a Las Vegas record label and recording studio founded by producer Cody Leavitt, and is dedicated to bringing an eclectic variety of musical, visual and performing artists to the Third Street Promenade. Asteroid M’s artist list consists of a variety of genres spanning, rock, indie, surf, pop, and dance music. The local record label’s bands draw large crowds, and the shows they promote typically involve live visual artists and a variety of genres, making them perfect partners to work with on this year’s Halloween Block Party on Third Street. The Halloween 2023 event will feature live music from the Asteroid M family, live visual artists, food trucks and a Halloween costume contest with prizes.

Día De Los Muertos Thursday, Nov. 2 | 4-9 p.m. FREE event | All Ages Sammy Davis Jr. Festival Plaza Celebrate Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) with the city of Las Vegas! This vibrant homage to life is a true community event and one of the most charming and colorful holidays celebrated by Mexican and Latin American cultures. Produced by the city of Las Vegas, this lighthearted and joyful tribute honors the memory of family and friends who have passed away in a fun and immersive atmosphere, featuring special entertainment by local and guest artists, interactive children’s activities, artisan vendors, food, face painting, special décor and an exhibition of altars created by community organizations and groups. Headlining this year’s festival is Mexican-based folk dance troupe – Pacífico Dance Company who fuses ballet and modern dance into traditional choreographies. Pacífico’s fast paced and energetic performances bring together about forty dancers and musicians to transport the audience on a journey through time and place.
Life is Beautiful Mural Project Dedication Event

This event dedicates a recently completed mural project at Rotary Park. This project is part of a partnership between the city of Las Vegas and Life is Beautiful. Local art production team Paints With Care worked with artist Cory Bennett and youth group Future Makers LV to paint murals inspired by what makes life beautiful in Las Vegas.

Kwanzaa Celebration Saturday, Dec. 30 | 2 p.m. FREE event | All Ages West Las Vegas Library In the spirit of NIA the community will celebrate the fifth day of Kwanzaa, “Purpose.” Kwanzaa is an African American and Pan-African holiday that celebrates family, community and culture. Celebrated from Dec. 26 through Jan. 1, its origins are in the first harvest celebrations of Africa from which it takes its name. The name Kwanzaa is derived from the phrase “matunda ya kwanza” which means “first fruits” in Swahili, a Pan-African language that is the most widely spoken African language. Nia: “To build and develop our collective communities together” — a commitment to the practice of shared social wealth and the work necessary to achieve it. This event is in partnership with West Las Vegas Library and West Las Vegas Arts Center.

This exhibit will highlight artists who have entered the annual juried exhibition. If they have won up to three or more awards at one point, they are asked to have their artwork placed in a two- or three-person artist exhibit at the Charleston Heights Art Gallery. Artists’ work is chosen so it goes well with the other artists’ artwork. Or, it might be in dramatic contrast, to create an interesting exhibition.
Join us for the 14th year of this exhibition, where primarily local artists are invited to make a piece of artwork related to the lunar new year and the Asian culture they are highlighting. This process is meant to bring artists out of their normal modes of creating art and focus on another culture and place by learning about the traditions that are part of the New Year.

LAS VEGAS ARTS COMMISSION The city of Las Vegas Arts Commission was established in 1987 and is operated through the city’s Office of Cultural Affairs. REFUNDS All ticket sales are final. There are no refunds on tickets unless a performance is canceled and not re-scheduled. Refunds are made only to the original purchaser. All performers and programs are subject to change without prior notice. No refunds will be offered on previously purchased tickets if a promotional price is offered at a later date.
EXCHANGES Exchanges are only available on Season packages. Tickets must be returned no later than 24 hours prior to the performance. You may select a new event within the current season. In order to process the exchange, the original ticket code will be deactivated. All exchanges must be done by the original purchaser.

TICKETS FOR CHILDREN Regardless of age, everyone must have a ticket and sit in a seat. Some performances are not recommended for children ages 5 and under.
