We are delighted to share your reunion photos. https://mlc.canto.com/b/SATU7
Alison March (Dalley) tahuna@bigpond.com
I followed my mother and three elder sisters to MLC. After my four years, my family moved to Perth where I attended MLC Claremont. I trained as a primary school teacher but spent the next 40 years in primary and secondary P.E. I had two daughters Olivia and Stephanie who also attended MLC. On retuning to Melbourne in 1975 I taught at Melbourne Girls’ Grammar School and then St Catherines School. On resigning, I was then asked to teach at the 2-teacher school which opened from June to October, during the winter ski season in Dinner Plain. I have been travelling since retirement in 2008 and gardening.
Ann Yacono (Quartermain) ann@yacono.com.au
I simply can’t believe it’s 60 years since we all left school.
I did primary school teaching and after a stint teaching in London, came home and spent a fun year doing Special Education. I retired many years ago and have only one son who is 42 years old. My husband Tony and I enjoy overseas trips, despite the fact he is still working in his own business. Sadly, I have no grandchildren to fuss over but enjoy walking my two cavalier King Charles spaniels
I’m grateful to still being here at 78 years old, sort of fit and having good health. My best friend at MLC sadly died several years ago - Janie Blackley. It’s so sad when friends die so here’s to all at the 60-year reunion.
Anne Henderson (Care) muso53@hotmail.com
In 2009 I retired from the position I had held as Principal Bassoonist of the West Australian Symphony Orchestra for thirty-two years. Although meant to be retirement, I continue to play the bassoon and teach the instrument in a number of schools in WA. This is not a full-time position and so I enjoy a two-day week and five-day weekend! I now spend time bush walking, yoga to excess, catching up with friends and feeding my puzzle addiction - cryptic cross words, pixle puzzles and playing various games with my three grandchildren. Travel is also on the agenda such as hiking sections of the Bibbulmun Track, plans to do the Cape to
Cape and have just returned from a Yoga Retreat in Italy followed by seven days walking around the Salzburg Lakes.
Anne Woodside (Lankaster) annie.woodside@hotmail.com
Please accept my apology for the Reunion of Class of 1965 on October 25th.
After living in Melbourne all my life, I moved up to the Sunshine Coast, Queensland, a year ago, to be closer to my children and grandchildren. I still enjoy gardening, cooking, embroidery, reading , jigsaw puzzles, and country road trips.
Bronwyn Zrna (Butterworth) kombacy@gmail.com
I was the third of four generations of my family to attend MLC as a boarder. After leaving school, I initially joined the Bank of New South Wales (later Westpac) before completing a Bachelor of Social Work at Monash University, Clayton. Over the course of my career, I was a Child Protection Officer with the Department of Human Services (DHS); Manager of a children's reception centre (DHS); Manager of Children's Services, and later Family Services (NGO); a Senior Social Worker with a hospital-based Primary Health Team and a Company Director. During this time, I was also a volunteer with Lifeline, a Court Networker and an Honorary Probation Officer. I retired in 2009.
These days, I am a member of the Camberwell Petanque Club; Armadale Combined Probus Club; Melbourne Ladies' Probus Club; the NGV and the GSV, but the activity I enjoy most frequently is coffee, and/or lunch, with friends. My husband, David, and I have three children and seven grandchildren, all of whom live in, or near, Melbourne. We holiday overseas regularly and unfortunately will be in Portugal at the time of this year's Class of '65 Reunion. Best wishes to all for a very successful day.

My husband Lorenzo died in a nursing home in 2022, having had dementia for at least ten years before that. In the middle of 2023, when our son Mark was visiting Perth from Canberra, I decided to sell the house we’d lived in for 43 years at that point, and make the move to join him, his partner and their corgi, Chester, in Canberra.
By the end of October, I had made the move. It was a tremendous upheaval and the adjustment to being single again has also been challenging. Luckily, I love Canberra. Arriving here felt, in fact, like a homecoming. I am enjoying this late-life adventure enormously.
I have a wonderful apartment in Barton, very close to the gallery precinct adjoining Old Parliament House. Having come to Canberra on a school tour in 1963, before Lake Burley Griffin had been filled in, I find it amazing to be back here now, where I’d never imagined I’d settle. Friends come to visit from all over the place and I am very content.
My apologies to everyone for not being able to come to the Reunion and see you all. Not long ago, I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease. I’m still mobile, and I exercise a lotbut interstate travel is too demanding now.
I wish everyone all the very best and I hope the Reunion goes wonderfully well.
Cheryl Duncan (Hildebrand) a_cduncan5@bigpond.com
After leaving MLC I was employed in various secretarial positions and when I was 22 years old I left to start my travelling adventures overseas. I lived in London for a year and in the summer of 1971, I travelled extensively in Europe and on returning to the UK married my fiancé in Edinburgh. After living for 10 months in Edinburgh and living through the miners’ strike, no coal, sometimes no electricity we eventually decided to return to Australia. We again travelled through Europe to Athens and then flew to Cyrus where my father was in charge of the Australian Peacekeeping force. We had a luxurious week staying in a lovely hotel, spending time on the beaches and spending time with my father before finally returning to Australia.
I lived for 40 years in the Northern suburbs of Melbourne and on retirement we built our dream home in 2018 in Torquay. Sadly, my husband passed away in 2021. I have a daughter who resides in Norway with her partner and 5-year-old daughter and a son who lives in Bellbrae about 7 kms from me. In total I have four grandchildren - two boys and two girls whom I adore. I have very fond memories of my school years at MLC.
Christine Halliwell (Paton) chris@halliwell.com.au
Denise Lamble (Clark) deniselamble@yahoo.com.au
I am finally retired and living in Bairnsdale, which I have done for 40 years. I am busier than ever - dragon boat paddling, bike riding, sailing and spending time with my family- four children and seven grandchildren. Carpe diem! My motto.

Helen Grieve (Carter) hegrieve@gmail.com
Helen Nichol (Allardice) helen.nichol48@gmail.com
After returning to night school to complete year 12, I obtained a Bachelor of Behavioural Science, Grad Dips in Education and Pastoral Care, and a Masters in Theology. Whilst practising as a psychologist for many years and being a founding governor of a new private school, I then taught Ancient History, Latin, Sanskrit and Philosophy. I encourage all young women to find their own path which may or may not be significantly recognised by the world but is a right fit for them, and so is their gift to humanity.
Jan Cox (Wood) janno47@gmail.com
I’m still married to Doug, 55 years after our wedding in Fitchett Chapel, and have two wonderful children, Anthony and Jenny. Our two grandchildren, Oliver and Zoe, are the joys of our old age! Doug and I were trailer yacht sailors until recently, enjoying sailing adventures from St Georges Basin to Myall Lakes in NSW, Tasmania, Whitsundays, Fraser Island and New Zealand.
We are now caravanners, when we can, as we are members of a local community group, that fights for fair governance, protection of wildlife, especially koalas, and sustainable development, not the rampant destruction many developments cause. I’ve become a radical protester in retirement, trying especially to protect our few remaining koalas and other wildlife! We raised our family in Sydney, then enjoyed a stint in Wellington NZ, moved to Brisbane, another company stint in Perth and back to Brisbane and retirement! I’ve been a member of a local art group for 26 years and particularly love watercolours.
Jan Marsh (White) ji.marsh@bigpond.com
Jennifer (Jenny) Fleming (Howell) ifle6218@bigpond.net.au
I have been retired (Ian taught Secondary Maths/Biology and I taught Secondary Maths/French) for 20 years. My husband Ian died suddenly and unexpectedly of heart failure on August 31, 2025.
Have lived happily in Traralgon since we married in Fitchett Chapel in December 1969. Wonderful memories of my time at MLC.
Jennifer Graham (Green) jagg47@bigpond.com
Jill Smith (Cumming) jill_smith2006@hotmail.com
I retired from many years Reg Nurse Reg Midwife in 2011 and have travelled four times since. My fifth Grandchild was born in 2011 has lived with me since 2019 in kinship care. I have four Great Grandchildren: 1 year old Blair, Sadie 4, Bodie 6, Harper 12. I keep in touch with both Joan Pilbeam née Bennett and Meredith Barnes née McCutcheon. Hoping to get a short trip to London this year once again after not been able to get away past 10 years. Music still restores means Alfie my our chihuahua can sing descants high pitched if I go to piano to try play Bach.
Jo McCallum (Houghton) jomc@bigpond.com
I attended MLC for 13 years, 1952 -1965.
In 1970, I married John McCallum in Fitchett Chapel. Dr Harold Wood officiated. I have a son and two daughters (MLC Alumnae), two granddaughters and three grandsons Past committee member of the OCC.
Grandparent of a Year 8 student. A weekly visitor with another granddaughter at after school
swimming classes, watching with interest as the latest Physical Education and Sport Precinct project unfolds. In the 1950’s, only a few schools had a pool!
My husband John McCallum has sung tenor in many Star Chorale Male Choir performances. Recently, we attended a 25-year celebration of the Star Choral. A marvellous opportunity to reminisce with Jane Elton Brown about her early days as a student teacher in my 6th grade!
Since retiring as a dental nurse and Practice Manager, I have volunteered in “not for profit” organisations. Wear For Success, now known as Ready Set, empowers and assists disadvantaged and under privileged job seekers. Each year, in collaboration with the Go Girls Foundation, Ready Set supports long term unemployed women to be job ready, providing Clothing, Coaching and Connection.
In 2021, I successfully applied for the OCC Val Kerr Fellowship Grant. Sincere thanks to the OCC selection panel in awarding Ready Set $3,000 to assist this venture.
I am a keen photographer, and love to travel. I keep fit playing tennis and table tennis. I have my own sauna and ride an electric bike. I belong to Book and Movie Groups.
Joan Pilbeam (Bennett)
joanpilbeam@bigpond.com
60 years, seems like a lifetime!! I have many happy memories of my years at MLC and enjoy lasting friendships from that time.
I still enjoy teaching 2-3 Primary-age students for a weekly lesson on an individual basis in my Private Practice at home helping their literacy and numeracy skills, having done a Special Education post Graduate Degree majoring in Learning Disabilities in 1983.
We have two girls who both attended MLC (1990 and 1993) and three grandsons who are a delight (James, nearly 15 years, Luke 13.3 years and Cameron 11.3 years).
We enjoy several overseas trips each year and our daughter, Lisa (1990) and her family dog-sit our beautiful Westie, Charlie (13.3 years), who although partially deaf and not very energetic now still gives us all much pleasure.
We also love spending time at our beach house at Mt Martha and sharing happy holidays there with the family.
Jocelyn Kidd (Kalwig) jocekynkidd@gmail.com
I shan't be attending due to another engagement. I do wish to say “hello” to friends from all those years at MLC. My how time flies! My husband and I have downsized from Mount Martha to Mornington, quite an adjustment, to say the least. Planning to get away more often now. Best wishes to you all for the reunion.
Judy Gordon (Lillywhite) judyg@vicsig.net
Since the 50th reunion I have retired from tertiary Chemistry teaching. I took long service leave in trimester 3 2018 because I did not want to teach on my 70th birthday. I was going to fade away quietly but had to continue in trimester 1 2019 when my colleague got cancer. When Covid came, many of my overseas students were made to go home and I could not teach them on-line as I did not have the facilities at home. It had been a pleasure to teach students from many different countries.
My daughter went to MLC but moved to Brisbane 14 years ago, so we do not see much of granddaughter no.1, Zoe and grandson no.1, Troy. However, we see a lot of our son's family because they live two doors up from us. Granddaughter no.2, Cass and grandson no.2, Ayden used to have dinner with us every Tuesday and Thursday while their parents were at volleyball but now go to volleyball themselves to coach and referee.
Cass, now in Year 11, used to like to do homework with me. Once a teacher, always a teacher. The two boys are in Year 10. The exciting part is that Zoe is finishing Year 12 and is receiving some awards next week.
My husband Jim and I go to railway meetings, Musica Viva concerts, also volunteer at the Army Signals Museum and are involved in amateur radio, so we are well and happy.
Judy Warren (Campbell) jwarren22@me.com
Kathryn Nicholson knnewham@outlook.com
Two marriages, two children, a move from suburbia to the Macedon Ranges, three grandchildren and a lifelong learner sums up my post school journey!
I worked as a physiotherapist for a number of years in Melbourne and the UK and then I moved into management consulting and training in the health industry. Focussing on adult education and injury prevention, I completed a Masters in Assessment and Evaluation in 2004 and then, in my first retirement (and following the death of my mother who had Alzheimer's disease), I volunteered at Alzheimer's Australia (now Dementia Australia (DA)). That was the beginning my second career and a determination to better understand the nuances of neurocognitive disorders and the impact they have on people and those who care for them. Whilst working as a sessional educator for DA and with their encouragement and assistance, I returned to Melbourne University as a PhD candidate. I subsequently translated my research into the experience of caring for a person with Lewy body dementia (LBD) into a national resource, continued lecturing and presented at conferences both in Australia and Europe.
I have been blessed with a caring, supportive family, many friends, fabulous experiences –some off the beaten track and numerous dogs (one of which now has dogmentia). I’m now enjoying true retirement and my very productive garden supplemented with just a little bit of U3A to keep me stimulated. I hope you have all been as fortunate.

My education was MLC wasn’t just in the classroom. My first encounter with MLC was as a boarder. Coming from a farm, I was intrigued to find myself sleeping tucked under a sloping ceiling in Upper Tower 8 at the top of the prohibited stairs down to Dr and Mrs Wood's residence. Only once did Dr Wood appear, in his black gown, to quieten us down.
Shirking responsibility, I left after Form 5 and had private board for five guineas a week in Armadale. This necessitated travel on the Glenferrie tram number 69 and so my education continued. I’m not naming all the wonderful mentors, friends and colleagues, some from MLC, who helped me in my career, but I am grateful to them.
After matriculation I became a physiotherapist. This career led me to my first job at Kew Cottages and gave me lifelong concern for children with disabilities, then to the Royal Children’s Hospital (RCH), work in Canada, and finally back at RCH in the Burns Unit. This added to a conviction that physiotherapists can and should contribute to primary prevention.
Family interrupted this, as was the way then, and when I returned still clutching my diploma it was at the RCH researching spina bifida. This led to academia in the School of Physiotherapy at The University of Melbourne and a passion for educating young physiotherapist in paediatrics. Meanwhile after 10 years achieving a master’s degree I finally, at 70 years of age, got a doctorate. Special people need thanks.

I am unable to attend the reunion this year but I still keep up with half a dozen or more from my year - good, life-long friends. Life has been good to me, three children, seven grandchildren, good health (so far), interesting travels over the years and altogether a fortunate life. I hope the reunion goes well!

Initially I followed my chosen career of teaching. I have always worked full time, despite no maternity leave being available. From the mid-80s to mid-90s I worked in the interests of educational staff in Victorian independent schools. My career continued with roles as CEO and as a Board director, mostly with not-for-profit organisations.
Family, travel, gardening, various U3A activities, plus being Body Corporate Secretary for our unit on the Gold Coast keep me happily occupied.
Meredith Barnes (McCutcheon) mezzerbarnes@gmail.com
Although I could not attend in person this latest Class of 65 Reunion, my greetings and wellwishes to you all!
More or less since our last actual (pre-COVID) Reunion, numerous medical issues have increasingly restricted my physical living, leaving me brace-bound and walker-dependent, not to mention also by now severely hearing-impaired. In short, of necessity the physical aspects of my life have become rather too intensively medically focused, remaining so to this day.
This has left me negotiating a different sort of retirement path from that previously envisaged: one impacted by a combination of age and age-related ills, along with the abovementioned mobility and hearing impairments.
Nevertheless, despite all, I have remained (verifiably!) cognitively intact, albeit with a generous dash of reclusive eccentricity, such as is (or should be) a privilege of old age. With active playing of and listening to my beloved music no longer within reach, this sees me still able to keenly pursue other rich interests of mine, including reading, writing and language itself, with occasional forays into drawing and painting.
Still with me at home (where we intend to stay) is my husband and companion of now fiftyone years, Ian. My three children - David, Andrew and Helen (two married) - plus one grandchild, complete an immediate family which I would suggest constitutes an example of quality over quantity.
If anyone is interested in contacting me, I would be pleased to hear from you.
Merrill Smead (Jones) merrill.speed@bigpond.com
I started at MLC in Prep. After successfully completing Matriculation at MLC, I graduated two years later from Toorak Teachers’ College and became a qualified Primary Teacher. I married in 1970 and was married for several years. I taught full time until my daughter Meredith was born. While I was part time, with a baby, I studied to upgrade my initial qualifications to be a four-year trained primary teacher then returned to full time teaching when Meredith was in Prep at the same school.
In 1985 we lived in Alberta, Canada as I had been awarded an International Teaching Fellowship (exchange teaching) and made lifelong friends. We travelled extensively through Canada, and USA including Alaska during my summer holidays. I remarried soon after my return and had a daughter Jessica. Several years later while working full time, I completed my Bachelor of Education at La Trobe University. In the summer holidays during these years I travelled to Denmark, Pennsylvania, USA and Inuyama, Japan on short term teaching exchanges through the Education Department with a group of teachers.
In 2000 my daughter Jessica and I spent a year in Inuyama, Japan where I taught ESL at three different Elementary Schools and we made lifelong friends. We travelled to many places in Japan. I have continued to learn Japanese. In 2001 we flew to Minnesota USA as I was awarded another International Teaching Fellowship.
During my teaching years in Doncaster, I hosted many international students and enjoyed hearing about their home country. When I retired from full time teaching, I began teaching ESL part time at Blackburn English Language School as an Outpost ESL teacher and travelled to many schools to develop an ESL program for their students.
I am now retired and enjoy a very busy life with overseas travel, and I have pen pals around the world and have met 10. I enjoy knitting blankets which I donate to a charity named KOGO. Each week I look after my grandchildren aged two and five. I volunteer with the Justice Department, learn Japanese, Probus, tutoring, travel in our caravan and catching up with family and friends.

After leaving MLC, attended Business College, then entered Dental Nursing with study at night school, at 18, joined the WRAAF, [dental nursing]. Married two years later, moved to ACT still living there. Have four children and a number of grand and great grandchildren.
Continued my love/involvement with calisthenics throughout my life up until four years ago, finally retiring from active participation. Career varied, stay at home mum, part time work within Grocery trade primarily as Representative for different brands, calisthenics. Have travelled overseas to many different countries covering almost all 'bucket list' areas, [Sri Lanka still to come, a past teacher created such an interest to see her Ceylon] now travelling Australia both caravan and tours with husband of 55 years, Dennis.
Patricia (Pat) Anderson (Sellers) patriciaandersen6@hotmail.com
I currently live in Golden, Colorado, USA and have worked at the Library of the Colorado School of Mines for the last 20 years. I have been very fortunate to have two great adventures in my life: On leaving Australia I travelled overland to the United Kingdom and then on to a mining town in Namibia where I lived for 7 years. Of course, the main adventure of my life are my two grown children who also live in Colorado. I can't attend the reunion but would love to hear from anyone who remembers me from the Class of 1965.
Pauline Taylor (Hussey) petaylor@gmx.com
I am now enjoying retirement with four wonderful grandchildren and regular contact with my three sons and their wives. Health concerns have slowed me down in more recent years. Knee surgery is the reason why I can’t get to the reunion. I also had another brush with breast cancer. Prior to this, I was an active participant in several women’s groups, focusing on financial independence for women. Since my book "How to be a Super Smart Woman" was published in 2017 I have conducted many sessions helping women to engage more with
superannuation, finance and retirement issues. It has been fulfilling and I feel I have made a worthwhile contribution. I continue to enjoy travelling but recently more around Australia and the South Pacific. Still contemplating one more trip to Europe. Downsizing is the next major challenge!

I chose to do the Commercial Leaving Certificate in my final year at MLC. After leaving school I worked as a secretary for numerous private companies for the next 17 years, before I successfully applied to work for the Federal Government. I worked for the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade for the next 30 years before retiring in 2012. While working for this Department I had four overseas postings to South Korea (Seoul), Philippines (Manila), Japan (Tokyo) and the U.S. (Washington). While working for the Department in Australia I lived in Canberra until my retirement. I moved back to Melbourne one year after retiring to the area where I grew up, so that I was close to family and friends. I have travelled quite extensively overseas commencing with nearly three years working and back packing in the United Kingdom and Europe in the early 1970s. I have many happy memories and look forward to catching up with old school friends.

The last summary I gave was for the 55th Reunion, and this one would be a similar report.
My husband, Ray, and I both have health problems, with several more lots of cancer and treatment for me, including current ongoing breast cancer which is fairly stable. Our health issues have occupied a lot of our time over the past two years. Because of this, regular attendance at Wesley Melbourne Church presents some problems, so we have resurrected older connections with the Manningham Uniting Church, which also provides us with some local social connections, while we still maintain our link with Eaglehawk UCA, both with long stays at our daughter’s house in Bendigo, and via Zoom (a “plus” continuing on from COVID times). Our other daughter and husband live out of Geelong, and their sons are now 21 (at Monash University), 18 (in Year 12) and 15 (Year 9).
Rosemary Leckel (Farr) leckel30@hotmail.com
Ruth Mitchell (Torode) mitchellda3@bigpond.com
After living in Hamilton for 24 years we moved back to the Geelong region after retiring. Both of our children went to university in Melbourne and are still in suburban Melbourne, so we wanted to be closer. We have now lived in Leopold for 20 years and here we will stay. My husband Dennis is a Lion (now a Life member) so transferred to the Leopold club, and we soon became part of the local Uniting Church so got to know people here. We both did voluntary work also. Dad lived in Highton (as does my sister Janet), so we were able to so be supportive in his later years. Our son Steve still works at Monash as a Critical Incident Manager (IT) and he and Anya have three children (now 12, 14 and 16). Tamara lives in Brunswick and is happily single. It is difficult to believe that our next reunions will be with the Silver Circle!
Sue Temby (Liljeros) temby@bigpond.net.au
I retired in 2016 from nursing with Eastern Palliative Care in the home. Happily retired with my husband Richard, in Chelsea Heights.
We have been in two singing groups and been overseas with one of them. Also, I’ve been in many musicals both in Melbourne and Launceston. Thanks to Madrigals . Currently our health is ok, but Richard has had two brain tumours removed.
We have a son and a daughter and five grandchildren ranging from 22 years to 4 months. Sorry I’m not there but currently on holidays. A big hello to everyone.

Hi everyone,
Sixty years since leaving school makes you stop and recollect your life experiences. I am retired both as a pharmacist and business owner
A long marriage of 54 years with my husband Murray and three daughters who have all attended MLC. We have six grandchildren - one girl and five boys.
Travel is something that we enjoy and our next trip is to Africa next June.
Our time is spent between Hawthorn and Pt Leo where we enjoy being near the beach and looking after our rural property.
Ceramics and painting have been on going interests for me as well as gardening.
I hope the time ahead will continue to be enjoyable for both my family and all others who I have met over the years.

Since leaving South Australia where I was engaged twice, I returned to Melbourne and taught at Ruyton Girls’ School for 40 years. I ran the community awareness programs amongst others. During this time, I added to my qualifications gaining masters degrees in special education and TESOL. I went to Singapore with Year 8 students. When I retired, I sold my house and moved to John Flynn Retirement Village.
Teri Hopkins (Gatley) teri@acr.net.au
Unlike others who attended MLC, I did not go to university, become a politician or run a huge company. I studied nursing at the Alfred Hospital, then on to getting married and having two children then went on to be PA to a number of fabulous bosses.
I ended up on the Far South Coast of NSW doing several different things. Ran a caravan park, ran a liquor store, decky on a fishing boat and ended up running the local doctor's surgery for 10 years, I then retired here in beautiful Bermagui NSW. Certainly a life with a difference, never boring and still going strong.
