Countless enriching experiences await whether in the classroom, on the sports field, on stage or amidst nature. At the Pre-Prep, we place great importance on enjoyment, considering it a cornerstone of academic excellence. Our goal is to instill a sense of wonder and curiosity in learning, fostering a desire to delve deeper, forge connections, and broaden horizons.

We are confident you will embrace the spirit of being a Haberdasher wholeheartedly. Should you haveany inquiries before or during your first days, please don’t hesitate to reach out - our support is readily available.

Wishing you a splendid summer and we look forward to welcoming you in September.

About the Pre-Prep School

As a community, we are made up of over 300 pupils aged 4 to 11across the Pre-Prep and Prep School.

We are committed to embedding our values into every aspect of daily life in the Pre-Prep, inspiring curiosity and encouraging every pupil to be their very best.

Our opportunities for learning are broad and exciting - extending beyond the classroom with our fantastic Forest School, outdoor classroom and co-curricular provision. As a school, we believe in educating our pupils inside and outside the classroom.

We value parents’ support with our curriculum and trips, and provide a range of opportunities to stay connected with school life.

These include parent consultation evenings, drop-in sessions and curriculum workshops, where parents can learn more about our approach to particular subject areas.

At Habs, we want our pupils to have the courage to try something new. With extensive co- curricular provision on offer, they will continue to develop skills to find new passions.

Ambition is evident throughout the school, reflected in both the aspirations and achievements of our pupils as they grow. Whether striving to beat a personal best in the annual Donkin Cup race or earning a place in a National Final, our pupils are constantly encouraged to aim high and fulfil their potential.

Our brand values are whatwe hold dearas a school, the core beliefs that westandfor. They are brought to life in our Habits Framework.

Habits

Habits defines what we stand for and provides the foundation for everything our students achieve. They enhance academic performance, shape character and enrich life beyond the classroom. By grounding our four core values in 12 practical Habits, we ensure that our students develop the mindset and skills to flourish in all areas of school life and far beyond.

Ambition

Ambition at Habs is about having the drive to pursue excellence in every endeavour. Through the habit of resilience, our students learn to view setbacks as vital steps that help them grow and learn. We encourage a culture of continuous learning, where the pursuit of knowledge is viewed as an exciting, lifelong journey. By taking the initiative, our students learn to grasp every opportunity.

Curiosity

Curiosity is the engine of intellectual discovery at the school. We foster open-mindedness, encouraging our students to seek out new perspectives that can reshape their thinking. Critical thinking is central to our academic approach, as students learn to let reason guide their thinking, inside and outside the classroom. Through creativity, we empower them to use original ideas to solve complex problems.

Courage

Courage at Habs means moral courage as well as boldness. Integrity is the bedrock of this value, ensuring that the personal values of our students shape their actions. We develop leadership by giving students opportunities to make change in our community and beyond our gates. By embracing risktaking, they learn to step outside their comfort zones, gaining the confidence to push their boundaries.

Community

Community is at the heart of everything we do, whether it is our school community, our local community, or the global community. Through collaboration, we model community in lessons and in co-curricular activities. We place a high value on care, fostering an environment where everyone can feel they are known and belong. Finally, by embracing social responsibility, our students take active steps to make a profound impact in the world. This is our purpose.

Homework

AtHabs, homeworksetis purposeful, witha viewto support the education development of our pupils.

Research has shown learning from home, linked to classroom work, forms an integral part of learning and tends to be very effective.

Independent learning tasks aim to practise skills, apply understanding, enrich learning, help maintain focus independently and develop time management whilst learning at home.

In Reception, homework consists of phonics and numeracy tasks alongside weekly allocated reading. These will be introduced as the children become more confident learners. In Year 1 and 2, homework is set twice a week in addition to regular reading practice. Each piece of homework consolidates a taught topic and should take no more than 20 minutes to complete.

Rewards

In the Pre-Prep,weare very conscientious in delivering specificpraise that focuses on rewarding the process; a child’sjourney, ambition andcourage to achieve something.

Positive praise, and house points are awarded for good work, effort and behaviour. All children follow the Prep Behaviour Ladder to guide positive choices – this is delivered and explained in age-appropriate language in accordance with children's developmental stage.

We have a weekly Celebration Assembly Each week, a student from each class is chosen by their class teacher to be named in The Golden Book. At the end of each half-term, the Students in The Golden Book are invited to a special tea party in the hall

Coaches

We are pleased to announce that from the start of the new academic year we will be partnering with Vectare to manage our home-to-school transport network. Vectare is a specialist transport management company with an outstanding track record in the sector, managing more than 15 million journeys per year across over 250 UK independent schools.

Parents are responsible for students until you board the school coach. There is a Home to School Coach Termsof Service which all parents, guardians and pupils must follow when using the service

The Habs Hubs service is an extension to the Habs home-toschool coach network, that allows Reception to Year 2 pupils to access the school coach network at designated Habs Hub stops. Coaches using Hub stops have a Hero (trained adult chaperone) travelling on board, who provide supervision to Habs youngest pupils.

The Habs Hubs stops are currently only available on the following routes: F03, FF03, F04, FF04, H15 and HH15. The Habs Hub map shows the routes and Hubs stops that are currently under this service. Although other coach routes may pass through a Habs Hub, they are not a Hub on that particular route and therefore will not have a Hero on board.

It is very important parents read and understand terms of service before they rely on or sign-up to the Hub service. Please see our website.

Booking tickets prior to 1 August

To book your child’s coach seat for September 2026 please read this letter and book here If you have already booked, or have an existing booking, it will be moved over to Vectare over the summer break, so there is no need to rebook an existing route.

Booking tickets after 1 August

By 1 August, you will receive a formal introductory guide from Vectare, which will include full details on how to use the system, make bookings, and ask questions about the transport network.

Contacting Vectare

Vectare will provide out-of-hours support to parents, including at weekends, so help will always be on hand when you need it.

Introducing our Parents’ Guild

HabsBoys’ Parents’Guild (HBPG) is run by both Prep and Senior School parents, HBPGis a strategic partner for the Boys’ School to enhance and enrich the education of pupils across all year groups and create opportunities for engagement with the wider school community.

As a parent or guardian of a pupil at Habs Boys, you are automatically a member of the Guild. The Guild is a great way to get more involved in school life – enabling you to get to know other parents across the year groups and within your child’s class and House in the Prep and Senior School.

The school have established a committee of 15 parents, representative of the school community. Alongside this, the Guild have established a network of House reps in the Senior School and we also have the existing network of class reps in the Prep School. The reps across both the Prep and Senior School will communicate most of the Guild’s messages via established class/House WhatsApp groups.

Click here to find out the Parents’ Guild objectives and how they work. We look forward to getting you involved!
