In 2019, new Illinois alderwoman Robin Rue Simmons ushered in the passage of the first-ever tax-funded reparations bill for Black Americans.

The documentary, part of GBH’s Juneteenth programming, follows Simmons and her community in their battle to obtain these debt payments and the national efforts that have continued for decades.

The Outrage of Danny Sotomayor

Fiery, openly gay AIDS activist, political cartoonist, and organizer Danny Sotomayor waged a campaign of civil disobedience to draw attention to the marginalization of the LGBTQ+ community and the silence around the AIDS crisis, while he was losing his own battle with AIDS.

This series from the producers of Sesame Street introduces viewers to some of the formidable yet unfortunately common challenges experienced by children from their own perspectives, including parental incarceration, climate displacement, and homelessness. Each stand-alone half-hour film is designed as a co-viewing experience for adults and kids ages eight and up.

Ask the Expert: The Story of Auschwitz Fri (6/7) at 12pm ET (Virtual) Holocaust scholar Michael Berenbaum shares historical facts and answers questions about the Holocaust, one of the darkest chapters in human history. His primary focus is on Auschwitz, the largest and most lethal Nazi concentration and death camp. Berenbaum was the project director overseeing the creation of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. His curated exhibit, Auschwitz. Not Long Ago. Not Far Away, is on view at The Castle at Park Plaza in Boston until September.
