ISE 2026 - Day 2

Stay connected or be displaced by AI

The experts of tomorrow are yet to be forged, according to Richard Mulholland, founder of Missing Link. At the Megatrends session, ‘Relentless Relevance: How to be a threat to the future before the future threatens you’, he urged companies to encourage their teams to challenge their beliefs if they are going to stay relevant. Using interactive examples, ranging from an abstract picture of a cow to the demise of RIM’s Blackberry and even the fall of the Twin Towers, Mulholland demonstrated that humans struggle to unsee something they have seen and change their thinking, which leads to narrow views.

Quoting US General Eric

Shinseki, Mulholland reminded the audience that those who don’t like change are going to like irrelevance even less. “I am obsessed with relevance, we need to think of it in a way we have never before,” he said.

The megatrend Mulholland was addressing was AI, a word he finds deeply flawed. “AI is not fake human intelligence, but a different type of intelligence altogether, organic versus machine intelligence, and the rules of both are different.”

“More like a beehive than a hierarchy” is how Mulholland described the moment that singularity is reached, artificial superintelligence emerges and humans are no longer the smartest entities on the planet.

“A bunch of artificial narrow

intelligences will be connected, communicating with each other at lightning speed,” he said. “This leaves humans as a disconnected intelligence in a world of connected intelligence. This is the problem we need to solve – and this industry has always been at the forefront of connecting

humans better.

“So the ‘capital M’ Megatrend today is not AI, it is connected versus disconnected intelligence. The question is how to improve the bitrate of human-to-human communication. I can’t see how this is not something we’re looking at and considering.”

Hidden Order creates a dialogue with Gaudí

Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí famously took his time to perfect the extraordinary style of his work, but artist Matt Clark had considerably less time to deliver 'Hidden Order'. the façade mapping of Gaudí’s Casa Batlló that heralded ISE 2026.

“It was such an honour to be

working with this façade, but it’s a very organic, very complex and unusual building and Gaudí has a very distinct style,” said Clark in his Creative Keynote ‘Behind the Façade: Building a performanceled mapping at Casa Batlló, from concept to implementation’. “It was a challenge.”

The founder and principal artist of United Visual Artists (UVA) walked

delegates through his process. “I wanted to create a dialogue with Gaudí and touch on concepts that I am interested in as an artist as well as create something different to past mapping of this building."

His first impressions of the building’s interior were of “spinal formations, skin and skeletal elements of a living body, which I don’t think previous artists had

picked up on”.

Learning that Gaudí believed in divine geometric principles, Clark was inspired to conceive the project less as a traditional “surface level” mapping and more as a performance – “to explore the conversation between human and geometric forms”.

This led him to partner with dancer and choreographer Fukiko Takase and to integrate her interpretation of movement within Casa Batlló into the final piece. He also chose to light from inside the building, which had not been done before. “This represented the heartbeat or belly of the building. I wanted to have actual human movement, not just a digital representation of it.”

Technically, the components UVA used included the creation of an avatar of Fukiko and the design and iteration of geometric animations using TouchDesigner software.

AI is not a black box solution

While AI strategies are maturing, placing bets on the technology is like building on quicksand, ISE attendees were warned at yesterday’s Investor Forum.

“Everyone is throwing money at AI. It’s like the start of the internet 30 years ago when everyone built a website without knowing what it was really for,” observed Alex Kemanes, partner at distributor Midwich Ignite. “For us, AI has to translate into profit and loss. We’re looking for tangible investments where you can plug an AI tool into an ecosystem and it’s game changing. You can’t expect miracles overnight. There is a step-bystep process to get there.”

Investors from venture capital, private equity and corporate backgrounds shared insights into how the pro-AV sector should be treating AI. Integration, not substitution, was the watchword.

“The world is getting more complex and, as a result, AI is not the answer – it’s part of the answer,” said Daniel Sennheiser, chairman of the board of directors, Sennheiser. “For example, securing audio streams is always going to be a problem, but when you combine AI with world-class hardware and with algorithms you can get something that is rock solid for banking and military.”

For large corporates, the strategic rationale for AI investment is less about experimentation and incremental product development and increasingly a way of becoming more operationally efficient.

Harry Kalmanowicz, MD, mergers & acquisitions at investment banker Lincoln International, said: “I don’t see AI as a standalone capability.

We often work with hardware-driven companies who use software to differentiate their product. I see AI as augmenting software development for customisation in environments.”

Philipp Kolobkov, principal, Plug and Play Tech Center, explained how his company works with startups and that each one now claims to be AI powered. “If you are not using AI then you are doing something wrong and your valuation could be 10 times lower. That said, we have to look behind the curtains. Many companies are using AI agents to improve efficiencies, and that’s great, but we always have to understand what or who is actually powering the technology.”

Green light for sustainable AV

If you were planting your first seed for a sustainability programme where would you begin?

For most companies the low-hanging fruit is recycling. “For us it meant improving our plastic and cardboard packaging and then moving on to old or broken electronic devices,” shared Carolina Sosa, CFO of Colombia-based Integración AV, at the AVIXA Xchange LIVE session ‘Sustainability: From seed to strategy’. “Then we realised that honestly we didn’t know a lot about sustainability, so we started to research, learn and ask questions.”

Organised by the AVIXA Sustainability Advisory Group, yesterday’s panel of experienced sustainability practitioners broke down strategies into simple, actionable steps.

Barco started its sustainability journey in 2015 with a three-pronged approach. “Engage with your stakeholders,” urged Thomas Serbruyns, VP strategy and sustainability at the company. “You have to listen to what is important to them. Survey your investors and banks, your employees, customers and your suppliers. In parallel you need to measure so that you know where to start. For example, climate change and circularity was important for our customers, so we jumped on that. It gives you focus.”

The third element for Serbruyns was team empowerment. “The CEO can say that

sustainability is part of the company’s DNA, but you need to find those champions in the organisation to make actions matter. Some are more passionate than others so make them your spokesperson and empower them to drive change.”

Ray Kent, principal design consultant at global design practice Harvey Marshall Berling Associates, said: “How do you align your own personal values and corporate values towards sustainability with the ultimate goals of the project? Work hand-in-hand with clients and drill down into these questions. Their priorities might be profitability, reduction of operational

costs, or improvement in employee satisfaction. Sustainability might not be top of mind with them, but you can weave that back into the project’s story to help drive choices.”

Environmental awareness has leapt up the agenda since a decade ago, underpinned by regulations, it was agreed, but changing entrenched corporate and manufacturing culture and practices is not easy.

Kelly Bousman, SVP, ESG and sustainability at global integrator AVI-SPL, said: “No matter where you are in the value chain you can start to embed sustainability principles into your business, products and projects.”

Defining the role of technology in education

“We have all this new technology, but we sometimes forget what we tried to make better with it,” said technophilosopher and Fontys University lecturer Rens van der Vorst, speaking at the opening session of the Education Technology Summit.

Video assistant referee (VAR) technology might have improved football decision-making, he said, but it has also caused new difficulties and impacted the fan experience. This example helps van der Vorst explain the pitfalls that come up when technology is developed for the education sector.

“I don’t believe in a time that was better with less technology,” he said, “because technology changes us and how we perceive the world.”

He noted, however, that when someone wishes to improve

something such as education with technology, they don’t necessarily understand the domain they seek to improve. “If you want to make education better with technology, you must define what constitutes better education. If your answer to that question is vague, then technology is often the perfect answer to the wrong question.”

In football, VAR can only be active when there is a clear and obvious error, a brilliant design principle that should drive all technology creation, according to van der Vorst.

“Fixing problems with technology is way harder than you think, as you often end up fixing technology with more technology. Innovation is also more than just technology, everything has both an intention and rules, whether it is football or education. How can we create technology that supports the intention rather than the rules?” he asked.

Mastering the art of big-picture thinking

“This is the biggest ISE show ever, yet it’s an industry that could be eliminated if we don’t watch carefully how we guide our businesses through the turbulent waters that are about to hit us,” warned Rich Green, discussing macromyopia, or humans’ ability to remain blind to the big picture, during the CEDIA Smart Home Technology Conference.

“We have evolved to pay attention to the immediate threats, but if you forget to look five years down the line in your business, you are doomed because we are in a period of exponential change," said the founder of Rich Green Design. "You must get in the mindset that supports your ability to respond to this.”

AI is the end game and the next phase of

human evolution, according to Green. “You have no choice but to use it," he said. "We can talk about cool and terrifying technologies, but the bottom line is you are here to make a profit, so you must design a business that is going to survive five years from now. I can’t even tell you what it’s going to look like.”

Leaning on computer scientist and futurist Ray Kurzweil’s predictions, Green suggests artificial general intelligence is imminent, that solar and fusion are a decade away from taking care of our energy needs, and that in the 2030s we will reach longevity escape velocity, the moment when scientific and medical advancements increase human life expectancy by more than one year for every year that passes. We will also have access to brain-computer interfaces and money will lose its relevance.

The show must go on

A roadie in the 1970s needed to be able to “lift heavy objects, to drive and to stay up late”, according to Bryan Grant, who toured with Pink Floyd, Peter Gabriel and The Cure.

“Fifty years later the whole business has matured,” he observed. “It’s become an incredibly complex business and the stakes of getting things wrong are so much higher.”

Grant is a director at Britannia Row Productions, a light and sound company formed in 1975 by Pink Floyd to support its tours and which has run as an independent audio production service since 1984. He was speaking with colleagues on the Live Events Stage in Hall 6 (6B100).

SEEN ON SOCIAL

Absen Europe @abseneurope

“It was bands like Floyd in the 1970s who were pushed by American promoters to do arenas and stadiums,” explained Brit Row non-executive director Mike Lowe, who started out as a roadie in Liverpool in the 1960s. “Even big bands didn’t have the equipment to do it. Crew were building consoles in their garages until manufacturers realised there was a market there for them.”

“The stakes are a lot higher now,” said Josh Lloyd, head of engineering. “You’re not just serving the audience in the room, your work is being critiqued online. The level of complexity within the modern audio system is far greater than it was

even 10 years ago with the advent of AoIP digital consoles.”

Refreshingly, there are careers in the industry for the next generation, such as Louis Briggs, who is on a two-year apprentice scheme at Britannia Row.

“I’m learning about signal flow, acoustics and electronics – all the skills you need to understand before you go into the world of live audio,” Briggs said. “We’re also training in PA systems and we scale it from a single hang to an arena-size PA.”

Nonetheless the type of person who will succeed hasn’t changed much, according to Lowe. “If you haven’t got the passion, it’s not the easiest life. You need to be useful to those around you and be part of the team.”

Digital amp frees up connection fuss

Audio company Sonos is showing the Amp Multi, a multichannel streaming amplifier that is “designed to make complex residential audio installations simpler, more flexible and more scalable”.

Zanis Mantarakis, senior product marketing manager, platform and professional at Sonos, said: “We’ve completely redefined what a multizone amplifier is. Traditionally you have to manually select outputs, and that determines the zones. What we’ve done with Amp Multi is make it all digital. It doesn’t actually matter how you connect your amplifier, what outputs go where, because you can select it all within the app. There’s also streaming built in.”

Amp Multi offers eight amplified outputs at 125W each at 8 ohms, allowing it to drive up to 24 Sonos architectural speakers (three per channel). Integrators can configure the outputs in any combination across up to four independent zones and install multiple Amp Multi units for larger-scale installations. The product also uses GaN power architecture paired with Class D post-filter feedback.

Wire-free workflow passes cognitive tests

Cognio, a software-driven audio, video and control ecosystem from Symetrix, is claimed to fundamentally transform how AV systems are designed, deployed and operated.

Mark Graham, CEO, Symetrix, said: “Traditional AV design workflows begin by selecting hardware and then forcing the system to fit. Cognio flips that model, enabling a shift from device-dependent planning to solution-centric design.”

Graham says Cognio “removes complexity and artificial constraints from the creative process” so that consultants and integrators can focus on delivering the right experience for the space.

The workflow-first approach starts with rooms,

Powering production at scale

With several key offerings available at ISE, Grass Valley is showcasing a hybrid world of hardware and software combined, allowing customers to drive their productions at scale.

Adam Marshall, chief product officer, Grass Valley, said: “Whether it’s top-class quality corporate AV events in venues or managing content at scale across multiple sites, Grass Valley technology empowers storytelling across the entire solution needed in an organisation."

He added: “A couple of key products we’re showing here at ISE include the LDX 110 which is an entry-level studio camera, but with top industry-quality imaging and sensor capabilities. It’s a full-blown broadcast camera at an entry-level price point, ideal for studios and auditoriums.

“In addition, the LDX 180 is a super 35 PL lens mount camera enabling a shallow depth of field, while the Altair router, which is a 160x160 12G router with integrated multiviewer, really delivers a high density of SGI routing to these markets.”

zones and signal flow rather than fixed hardware. It replaces manual wiring with a patented, wirefree design workflow, enables true pre-hardware audio emulation (so designers can perform AV line checks before installation) and unifies design, commissioning, control and system operations into a single platform.

Designers place processing modules in sequence rather than manually drawing signal paths, and Cognio automatically connects them and maintains the routing logic behind the scenes. Change anything and the signal flow adapts instantly, significantly reducing design time.

Building the future pro-AV workforce: Career Day at ISE

ISE is where technology and talent take centre stage and where organisations like the AVIXA Foundation play a critical role in helping to shape the future of the pro-AV workforce. This week, the Fira de Barcelona is filled with pro-AV organisations and professionals, listening, discussing and searching for innovative ways to grow the industry. Among the crowd are companies looking for new talent and young people beginning their career journey into the dynamic world of pro AV.

The AVIXA Foundation is a non-profit organisation building talent pathways on behalf of the Audiovisual and Integrated Experience Association (AVIXA). Workforce development isn’t just about filling jobs, it’s about ensuring the industry thrives by supporting diverse and creative talent. How will ISE create space to support young people and organisations trying to grow their workforce with fresh talent?

CAREER DAY RETURNS TO ISE

On Friday, AV Career Day returns as part of Fast Forward Friday, continuing a tradition of opening doors for future pro-AV professionals. This year’s ISE theme is ever present as students and educators from around Europe ‘Push Beyond,’ getting a first-hand show experience and chances to connect directly with AV companies.

AV Career Day is hosted by AVIXA and CEDIA, a joint effort

to create opportunities for strategic partnerships between the AV industry and education. Highlights include panels with recently hired alumni, an open house at the AVIXA TV Studio, and speed networking sessions with prospective employers.

WHY WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT MATTERS

Workforce development efforts such as AV Career Day are essential to the health of the pro-AV industry. Without a steady pipeline of trained, diverse talent, there could be a slowing down of innovation and it could become a struggle to keep pace with rapidly changing technology. For the AVIXA Foundation, Career Day activations are key to fulfilling its mission.

“ISE is the perfect backdrop to put motivated jobseekers and employers in the same room,” said Joseph Valerio, program director for the foundation. “In doing so

we create access to important AV skills training, certifications and onramps to jobs previously unseen or unavailable. More opportunities for creative people to join our industry means more innovation and a sustainable future for us all.”

ISE attendees can visit AVIXA’s stand (3R200) to discuss potential partnerships or learn how to create talent pipelines within local communities.

BEYOND CAREER DAY

The AVIXA Foundation delivers several key programmes throughout the year. It offers tuition scholarships to help students pay for higher education. The Brad Sousa Impact Fund provides financial support for changemaker organisations utilising audiovisual technology and digital transformation in communities around the world.

Last year, three grantees were

selected from a diverse group of submissions and honoured at InfoComm 2025. Through this fund, Rosie Riveters, Tech25 and WorkSource Montgomery were given financial support for their missions. Their efforts provide hands-on STEM-learning for young women, address the demand for skilled AV broadcast and event technicians, and provide a cohort for career exploration and pathways to employment in AV and IT. Learn more about the fund at www.avixa.org/impact.

BUILDING AN INCLUSIVE FUTURE

Help shape the next generation of AV leaders by stopping by the AVIXA stand (3R200) to explore how you and your organisation can make a lasting impact. As technology advances, workforce development efforts will be critical to ensure the industry has the resources and talent it needs to thrive.

Guidance on evolving smart home technologies and standards

CEDIA is committed to monitoring the evolving smart home industry and responding accordingly by producing relevant resources to support integrators in understanding new technologies and standards.

CEDIA white papers take a deep dive into applications, recommendations and advice on a wide range of industry topics: from software and hardware to best practices, standards and formats. The white papers are heavily researched and crafted thoroughly by industry experts to break down complex subjects for professionals.

Recently, CEDIA introduced two new white papers. Let’s take a look.

REFERENCE

AUDIO LEVEL AND SPL CAPABILITIES

One of the core performance parameters in CEDIA RP22 Immersive Audio Design Recommended Practice is SPL capability. It is often discussed and misunderstood, along with the so-called reference level for listening.

In commercial cinema, a reference SPL has long been established and consistently applied to match post-production to intended playback levels in exhibition cinemas. But in private entertainment spaces there’s far greater variability in the range and type of source media, type

and size of rooms, scope and capability of audio systems, and perception of loudness.

The Reference Audio Level and SPL Capabilities white paper explores what reference audio level means both for commercial and home consumer content, the many facets of loudness perception, and clarifies the SPL recommendations as set out in RP22.

As part of the Smart Home Technology Conference at ISE, CEDIA is running a course called ‘Loud and Clear: The math behind SPL metrics in RP22’. Designing to meet a performance standard such as RP22 means doing more than picking components that ‘should be loud enough’. It

'We as a society spend somewhere between 85% and 90% of our time indoors... This is unhealthy for humans, especially if the quality of that light is poor, so this is where integrators come into the equation'

requires precise calculation of loudspeaker SPL requirements, factoring in real-world conditions, system configuration and the physics of sound propagation. In this advanced 90-minute course –running today from 14:30 in Room CC1.4 – learners will gain the tools to do exactly that.

HUMAN-CENTRIC LIGHTING

PART 1: WHY WE NEED IT

Humans evolved spending bright days outdoors and nights in relative darkness. Our physiological systems have functioned for millennia around this distinct daily cycle. But now we spend most of the time indoors, with artificial light enabling varying degrees of light at any time of the day or night.

We’re well adapted psychologically to artificial light, harnessing it to elongate our days and to enhance convenience, productivity and entertainment. But it comes at some cost to human health and wellbeing.

This white paper is part 1 of 3, taking a deep dive into the science of photobiology as the basis for why human-centric lighting is so important. Topics include the composition of light, how light affects human physiology, and the developing standards for how to optimise light at different times of the day and night. It will explain how integrators can optimise light throughout the day and night to best support human health and wellbeing.

“The figures that I discovered during the research for the paper revealed that we as a society spend somewhere between 85% and 90% of our time indoors,” commented David Meyer, author of the white paper. “I’ve since found out that this figure has actually been revised upwards and is now 93% in the US and 92% in the UK. This is unhealthy for humans, especially if the quality of that light is poor, so this is where integrators come into the equation.”

At ISE, CEDIA is hosting an education session entitled ‘Lighting for Life: Why human-centric design matters in smart homes’. Taking place in Room CC1.2 at 12:00 today, this session will look at how humans evolved by the daily, dependable cycles of daylight and night time, light and dark. But artificial light and modern lifestyles have increasingly disrupted our essential circadian rhythm. This course delves into the principles behind why human-centric, bioadaptive lighting is so important. Topics include the composition of natural and artificial light and how we as humans respond to it.

CEDIA white papers are free to download for CEDIA members. Visit www.cedia. org/education/white-papers to get a copy.

SUMMIT CHAIR PROFILE

Facing changes and challenges

Peter Prater,

International Critical Control Rooms Alliance (ICCRA)

Now a mainstay of the annual ISE summit agenda, today’s Control Rooms Summit, sponsored by Aura Vision, will explore how new technologies can be harnessed to strengthen operations, empower people and build trust in the control room environment.

The theme of this year’s summit is ‘Securing the Future: Resilient, Human-Centric Control Rooms’. Peter Prater, chairman of the International Critical Control Rooms Alliance (ICCRA) and co-host/chair of the Control Rooms Summit alongside ICCRA director EMEA David Jackson, explains: “First of all, the importance of control rooms is growing very rapidly. There has been a huge amount of change in the world over the past five years, and with that comes all manner of challenges affecting transportation services, oil and gas, emergency services – the list goes on.

“All of these critical control rooms need to be far more resilient to threat than they have ever been, while from an operator-centric point of view there is the fact that so much more information is coming into the rooms now; therefore, there is a need to be able to sift through all those sources very efficiently and then make them available to operators.”

In which context, one of the sessions – ‘Policing and Critical Control Rooms: Where are we and what are our challenges?’ – is bound to be particularly insightful. This will feature contributions from Humberside Police assistant chief officer Chris Philpott, who is responsible for the delivery of enabling services, including

‘The summit will highlight ergonomic control room design, collaborative workflows and training programmes that keep operators engaged, safe and effective in an increasingly complex environment’

information technology, and oversees the Force Control Room.

“Humberside Police is rapidly establishing itself as a very innovative police force when it comes to technology,” says Prater. “They don’t mind trialling things or having proofs of concept in order to take a closer look out there. We’ll be looking at the issues the force has as an end-user of technology in its control rooms, including operational and technical challenges. It will be great to have

the opportunity to unpick all of those issues with Chris.”

Alongside other sessions including an overview of control room trends presented by AVIXA’s Michael Sullivan-Trainor, there will be a workshop exploring how to run an operations centre when the room itself is unavailable or the team is scattered across locations, companies or even time zones?

Chaired by Epsis CEO Jan-Erik Nordtvedt, the session will feature participants Richard Stace, managing director of Firmtrack,

and Sam Phenix, founder of Phenix Consulting.

As well as outlining a flexible control model designed for hybrid teams and distributed decision-making, the workshop will examine new perspectives on how software-first solutions can complement and extend traditional AV steps, along with practical ideas for building adaptable, scalable and usercentric operations environments.

“This session is ideal for operations leaders, planners, IT/AV professionals and designers ready to move beyond static room builds and create control environments that are resilient by design,” says Prater.

There will also be an examination of ways to leverage AI and automation “not as buzzwords, but as practical tools for decisionmaking – helping teams address incidents before they escalate while maintaining human oversight,” he adds.

Returning to the overriding theme, Prater says that ‘securing the future’ means “placing the human at the centre. Through case studies and expert panels, the summit will highlight ergonomic control room design, collaborative workflows and training programmes that keep operators engaged, safe and effective in an increasingly complex environment. Attendees will discover how to foster a culture of continuous improvement and innovation, ensuring that high-tech investments translate into highperformance outcomes aligned with organisational goals.”

Control Rooms Summit runs today from 14:00-18:00 in Room CC5.1.

Meet with Neat

At Google’s Hall 2 stand, ISE visitors can encounter Google Meet running natively on Neat devices, combining Google AI and Neat’s meeting room systems. Google Meet currently supports Neat Bar Generation 2, Neat Bar Pro, Neat Pad and Neat Center. The collaboration is intended to provide users with more meeting room choices.

Neat Board 50 and Neat Board Pro are supported when paired with a Neat Pad meeting room controller; full-touch support is currently being rolled out for the entire Neat Board line-up, including the recently launched Neat Board 32.

According to the company, Google Meet on Neat provides simple, secure and scalable meetings for any space, powered by “the combined intelligence of Google AI and Neat’s beautifully engineered devices”.

Global launch for Spatial Signage

Samsung Electronics is redefining commercial displays with the global launch of Spatial Signage. Powered by Samsung’s proprietary technology, the display delivers immersive visuals with spatial depth, ideal for retail, luxury, museums and entertainment.

Also on show is AI Studio, a new AI-powered feature within the Samsung VXT cloud-based signage platform, that helps businesses turn static images into signage-ready video content through a streamlined workflow. It also optimises visuals for Spatial Signage, adding depth and realism.

Samsung has expanded its Color E-Paper range to include a 13in model. The paper-thin display uses advanced digital ink technology and ultra-low power to offer businesses a practical alternative to traditional printed signage. As the smallest model in the line-up, the new display is a perfect option for shelves, counters, tables and doors where traditional paper signage is still widely used.

Samsung has also strengthened its enterprise collaboration through Cisco certification for Samsung’s supersized displays, including the 115in 4K Smart Signage (QHFX model) and 146in The Wall All-in-One.

www.samsung.com

Together the systems, running on the latest-generation Android OS (A13), enable “effortless, natural and inclusive hybrid meetings that feel clear, consistent and deeply human”. Google says Neat’s video devices are the first to deliver this platform for Google Meet room hardware.

Happi days hear again

The Happi loudspeaker series from ArtSound has two new models for indoor and outdoor use, extending the range to seven designs. Each speaker is built around a water-repellent, minimalist form factor and a balanced acoustic profile.

The HPRO30 is the smallest model in the line-up. Its 118mm diameter makes it suitable for rooms up to 30sqm, and a patented passive membrane with aluminium woofer provides extended low-frequency response.

The closed cabinet supports accurate reproduction, while a splash-proof aluminium grille allows installation in damp areas such as bathrooms or covered terraces. The model is also referred to as the spotlight speaker.

At the opposite end of the series, the HPRO820 uses an 8in aluminium woofer and directional neodymium tweeter to cover spaces up to 60sqm. A seamless grille and splash-resistant construction maintain a clean aesthetic.

Both models are supplied with a white grille as standard, with an optional black grille available. — KIRSTY HAZLEWOOD www.artsound.be

Live sound’s split personality: Boom at the top, squeeze in the middle

If you track the headline numbers, the story for touring and rental looks

straightforward. The global touring and rental loudspeaker market reached around $574 million in 2024, and is forecast to climb to about $760 million by 2029. Unit volumes rose from roughly 180,000 boxes to the high 200,000s over the same period. On paper, live sound is the growth engine of professional loudspeakers.

Under the surface, it is a far more polarised landscape.

At the top end, the market has rarely looked stronger. Stadium and arena tours, destination festivals and large-scale corporate spectaculars are driving unprecedented demand for high-output, rider-compliant systems. Mega-events such as the FIFA World Cup, Olympics and regional expos are triggering full-bowl refits with thousands of loudspeakers per venue, plus rental overlays for ceremonies, fan zones and broadcast compounds.

At the other end of the spectrum, the mid and lower tiers of live entertainment are under real pressure. Smaller festivals, clubs, regional theatres and local touring circuits are grappling with rising production costs, higher wages and audiences who now benchmark every show

against the biggest tours they see online. Ticket price ceilings are much lower, yet expectations for immersive sound, impactful low end and neat presentation have never been higher.

For loudspeaker manufacturers, this creates a tricky dynamic. The high end is healthy but highly concentrated in a small number of brands and rental players. The middle is vast but cautious, sweating existing systems for longer and looking for incremental upgrades rather than wholesale replacement. Compact point-source and hybrid systems that can cover both live music and corporate gigs are proving popular, as are scalable line array families that let smaller providers rent in extra elements for peak events.

Installed leisure blurs into this picture too. Nightclubs, live bars and multipurpose venues are increasingly specified as ‘mini live venues’ from day one, with touring-grade arrays and sub systems that can support residencies, DJ takeovers and promoter-led events. That pulls some loudspeaker revenue out of pure touring, but strengthens the overall live ecosystem and gives brands additional reference sites.

The net result is a live sound market that is simultaneously booming and squeezed. The growth headline is real, driven by major tours, events and venue upgrades. Yet the health of the broader ecosystem depends on how successfully the industry supports mid-tier operators who need robust, multi-role systems at attainable price points. For ISE attendees, the opportunity is to design solutions and business models that serve both ends of this split personality, rather than only chasing the most visible shows on social media.

ZORSIKA | STAND: 5C200

Zoom throws in projection flexibility

Most ultra-short-throw lenses have a fixed throw ratio, but the new WE series from Zorsika has a manual zoom design with a throw ratio range of 0.52 to 0.64:1, which means that users can obtain different screen sizes at the same projection distance, or have a wider range of installation location options for a fixed screen size.

This greatly enhances the projector’s adaptability to different room layouts and environments, allowing users to avoid obstacles such as furniture and lighting fixtures, find the optimal projection point and achieve perfect image filling.

The UHD lens boasts low light loss, for brighter images and higher colour saturation, and a high degree of uniformity from the centre to the edge of the image.

It can be adapted to most mainstream DLP or LCD projectors and uses a segmented design that ensures the projectors can achieve optimal optical performance within their most suitable throw ratio range. — DAVID FOX www.zorsika.com

Standardisation, intelligence and the next phase of collaboration

For much of the past decade, workplace collaboration was defined by flexibility.

Bring your own device. Join from anywhere. Use whichever platform makes sense at the time.

That flexibility isn’t disappearing. But as organisations move into the next phase of hybrid work, a counter-trend is becoming increasingly clear: standardisation is back on the agenda. Not as a return to rigid, AV-led meeting rooms, but as a pragmatic response to scale, complexity and support burden.

FROM BYOD TO ROOM SYSTEMS... AND BACK AGAIN

One of the clearest expressions of this tension is the relationship between BYOD and native room systems such as Microsoft Teams Rooms and Zoom Rooms.

In smaller organisations and informal spaces, BYOD remains deeply embedded. At the enterprise level, however, a different pattern is emerging. Larger organisations increasingly favour native room systems in more formal spaces, not because they are more flexible, but because they are more predictable. One-touch join, consistent user interfaces, tighter security controls and centralised management matter when organisations are supporting hundreds or thousands of rooms.

For most organisations, this isn’t a binary choice. Futuresource data points to a mixed estate: room systems in larger or higher-value spaces, BYOD in smaller rooms and informal environments, and growing demand for solutions that can support both without friction.

For vendors and integrators, the implication is clear. Designing purely for BYOD or purely for room systems increasingly limits relevance. The strongest strategies recognise that standardisation and flexibility now have to coexist.

PLATFORM GRAVITY IS INCREASING

Another important trend is the growing gravitational pull of collaboration platforms themselves.

Microsoft Teams and Zoom are no longer just applications; they are strategic platforms shaping expectations around user experience, device certification, management and security. Platform alignment is now a key consideration in enterprise AV decisions, particularly as IT teams take greater ownership of collaboration technology.

This doesn’t mean organisations operate in a single-platform world. Employees still meet customers, partners and suppliers across different ecosystems. But it does mean that room technology is increasingly evaluated through the lens of how well it integrates into an organisation’s chosen collaboration stack.

For integrators, this places greater emphasis on platform-aware design rather than platform-agnostic installs. For vendors, it reinforces the importance of certification, interoperability and long-term platform alignment.

Communications get friendly makeover

The new Q310 wall/desk-mount station from PunQtum, Riedel’s affordable communications brand, is designed as a versatile two-channel communication system for team collaboration and efficiency. It can be wall-mounted for a fixed setup or used as a desktop device for portable applications, adapting to the needs of theatre, live production, broadcast and events.

PunQtum wanted to make the

AI MOVES FROM NOVELTY TO EXPECTATION

AI is another area where the market has matured quickly. After several years of experimentation, AI in meeting rooms is settling into a more practical role. Rather than headline features, buyers are increasingly focused on quiet intelligence, those capabilities that improve meetings without drawing attention to themselves. This includes automatic camera framing, intelligent noise reduction and voice enhancement, particularly as organisations deploy more rooms without on-site AV support. These capabilities reduce meeting friction and improve consistency across spaces that vary widely in size, layout and usage.

IT OWNERSHIP IS RESHAPING BUYING PRIORITIES

Underlying all of these trends is a structural shift: collaboration is now firmly an IT concern. Futuresource data shows that 63% of organisations place AV budgets within IT, with internal IT teams most likely to manage collaboration equipment across room types. This has a profound impact on purchasing decisions.

IT buyers prioritise standardisation, manageability, security and lifecycle clarity. They want devices that behave like enterprise IT assets, ie, they are visible on the network, remotely manageable and predictable at scale. Ease of deployment and long-term support now matter as much as audio or video performance.

Taken together, these trends point to a clear direction of travel. Collaboration is becoming more standardised, but not rigid; more intelligent, but less visible; more platform-led, but still multiplatform in practice.

Q310 intuitive and user friendly, with programmable buttons that allow users to make paging announcements and mute microphones, while the individual volume controls for each channel aids personalised audio management.

The Q310 supports GPIO to allow event-driven actions, from cueing lights in a theatre to remote announcements in event management. It is claimed to be a robust system that “guarantees clear, real-time communication and integrated automation for a more streamlined and efficient workflow to meet the demands of modern venues”. — david fox www.riedel.net / www.punqtum.com

Videobar Diode is claimed to be “the simplest way to harden an existing meeting room for sensitive conversations”. It enforces unidirectional media streams, allowing multiple computers of different classification levels to safely share the same videobar without risking inadvertent data exchange.

A timer-controlled normally closed state enables media transmission only when intentionally activated. This ensures the videobar remains silent and secure during classified discussions. Videobar Diode isolates the audio output to the speakers, as well as audio and camera input from the videobar. The output audio is converted from digital to analogue and sent through a low-pass filter, eliminating the risk of hidden ultrasonic data transmission.

Each channel then goes through a unidirectional diode, preventing return signals; audio is converted back to digital and transmitted using the emulator on the other end to the connected device. This process is invisible to any of the connected devices and has zero latency.

Warm reception at the conference

The new Carrier-Adjustable Infrared Conference System is, according to GoooHoo, “not a piece of cold equipment, but a warm link that conveys the true voices of the people”.

This is because it uses a mix of digital and analogue modulation and demodulation, which helps it get around the bandwidth issues of traditional FM and the group delay problems that digital modulation can have. Logic devices across the full channel minimise phase noise and deliver optimal performance.

The system consists of a main unit, infrared receivers and microphone units. Each channel has an independent channel frequency that can be set within the carrier frequency range of 2.8-6MHz.

The infrared receiver uses an RF-LNA (low noise amplifier), an RF combiner and multistage RF-AGC (automatic gain control) circuits to ensure the continuous and stable transmission of RF signals and to improve the signal-to-noise ratio. Meanwhile, the microphone unit can adjust the infrared transmission power according to its distance from the receiver to achieve an optimal state and reduce power consumption. — david fox www.gooohoo.com

Anti-glare tech catches the eye

A new matt anti-glare surface technology from Harvatek’s COBsidian range is being shown in Hall 4. The technology is designed to control light scatter using finely tuned microstructures to produce a soft, non-reflective appearance.

Instead of adhesive film layers, COBsidian uses a compressionmoulding process in which the surface layer bonds directly to the substrate under controlled temperature and pressure.

This method increases adhesion and avoids issues such as peeling, bubbling or edge lifting commonly found in adhesive films. Although challenging to manufacture, the company claims it produces a superior matt texture and long-term consistency. It is intended for environments where visual comfort and uniformity are priorities, allowing displays to blend into interior design while maintaining balance between light and space.

For applications requiring higher contrast and reflective finishes, the COBsidian Dark series provides a glossy black option designed to produce a bold, high-contrast aesthetic.

New tools for connected signage

Nsign’s stand at ISE 2026 centres on three areas: experience engine, global ecosystem and real-world impact.

Experience engine acts as an orchestration layer that connects screens, LED, projectors, sensors, data inputs and content workflows. The system is able to govern thousands of devices with consistent logic, automation and scheduling from one interface.

The global ecosystem area highlights integrations with OEMs, display manufacturers, sensor providers and technology partners deploying nsign systems worldwide. The focus is on interoperability and how the platform fits into wider digital environments.

Real-world impact presents applied use cases across retail, hospitality, corporate, transport and entertainment. Using nsign’s Creative–Logic–Experience framework, visitors can see how an idea moves from concept to a physical, automated experience through content, conditions and triggers.

The company is also showing updates across its product ecosystem, building on features introduced at last year’s show.

Fibre failure leads to a Diagnosis

Managing fibre-based AV systems is challenging. Traditional fibre extenders support limited feedback, often leaving operators unaware of system operation condition until a failure occurs.

Opticis hopes to address this with Diagnosis, an intelligent monitoring and management ecosystem, powered by the Diagnosis Link Manager (DLM). This software provides real-time visibility and remote management for a new generation of Opticis optical extenders: the HDX-1F20-TR (for HDMI 2.0), DPX-1F12-TR (DisplayPort 1.2), DHX1F4K-TR (DisplayPort to HDMI) and BR-600 multimount rack (a mix of up to eight units).

The DLM offers detailed system insights, including link status, power voltage and temperature monitoring, as well as EDID/DPCD fixing, extenders labelling, log records and status change alerts. It also supports IP-based management of multiple BR-600 power racks, for centralised control across large-scale, mission-critical environments.

In settings where downtime directly impacts operations, Diagnosis’ features deliver reliable oversight and efficient maintenance, offering a smarter, more proactive approach to managing video-over-fibre installations. — david fox www.opticis.com
