Highwaymen Festival Highwaymen Festival

TheCityofFortPiercehosteditsannualtributetotheworld-renownedFlorida HighwaymenartistsonFebruary21.OrganizedbytheGrantsAdministration Division,the9 AnnualHighwaymenHeritageTrailArtShowandFestivaltook placeatAvenueDnearMoore’sCreekLinearParkinLincolnPark the birthplaceoftheHighwaymen creditedwiththe“LastGreatAmericanArt Movementofthe20 Century.”

TheeventhonoredtheHighwaymenlegacywithparticipationfromSecondGenerationandLegacyHighwaymenArtistspresent.Morethan500attendees traveledfromacrossFloridatojointhecelebrationandviewmanytribute displays.

Guestsenjoyedlivemusic,localperformances,foodandcraftvendors,aKid’s Zone,andcommunityexhibits.Ahighlightofthedaywastheguided HighwaymenHeritageTrailTour,whichdrewover100participants. Thefestivalwaswidelypraisedasasuccess,offeringartistsameaningful opportunitytoshowcasetheirworkandconnectwiththecommunity.

TheRedTailDesignGroupinspiredbyapaintingbylegendaryHighwaymen artistMaryAnnCarrol,wasselectedfromnearly100applicantsreviewedby theArtandCultureAdvisoryBoard,tobringlifetothedesign.Carolwasthe onlyfemaleinthegroupof the26artistsHighwaymenartist.Themuralwas fundedundertheCity'sArtInPublicPlacesTrustFund.

TheRibbonCuttingandGrandOpeningwillbetakingplaceMay20 ,at 2:00PM.ThemuseumiscurrentlyopenSaturdaysandSundaysfrom12:00 PMto4:00PM.Expandedhourswillbeintroducedfollowingthegrand opening,allowingevenmoreopportunitiesforresidentsandtouriststo explorethehistoryandartistryoftheHighwaymen.

OnMarch19th,sevenofficersfromthe PortSt.LuciePoliceDepartment successfullycompletedtheInternational PoliceMountainBikeAssociation(IPMBA) PoliceCyclistCourseattheTreasureCoast PublicSafetyComplex,instructedbyFPPD Lt.MacNaught.

Thisintensive4-day,32-hourcourse challengedofficersbothphysicallyand mentallyastheyworkedtoward certificationaspolicecyclists.Theywere evaluatedonadvancedbike-handlingskills, includingmaximumbraking,rockdodging, theclover,thebox,stairclimbsand descents,crossoverdismounts,andstair carries.

Officerscompleteddayandnightrides, demonstratingtheirabilitytosafely operateonroadways,identifyhazards,and respondeffectivelyinreal-world conditions.Thecourseconcludedwitha comprehensiveexam,whichall participantspassedsuccessfully.

Theroadwayimprovementprojectwillincludedrainageenhancementsthroughout theSurfsideParkneighborhood,specificallyonMelaleuca,Plover,Pelican,Walnut, Eucalyptus,Cypress,SunsetIsles,Mimosa,andJacaranda.Improvementsinclude installationofvalleyguttersonbothsidesoftheroadway,regradingtoeliminate remainingroadsideswales,drivewayreplacements,andmillingandresurfacing.

AMajorSitePlanapplicationhasbeensubmittedforthedevelopmentofa173,800square-footofficeandmanufacturingfacility,accompaniedbya32,340-square-foot parkinggarageandassociatedsiteimprovements.Thesubjectproperty,locatedat 3500EnterpriseRoadinFortPierce,encompassesapproximately7.59acresand proposesprimaryingressandegressviaEnterpriseRoad,withemergencyaccess providedfromtheeastofOleanderAvenue.

Theprojectalsoincludesundergroundstormwaterstoragetosatisfyapplicable jurisdictionalrequirements.Uponcompletion,thedevelopmentisanticipatedto generateapproximately294jobs.

Ourcourseconditionsareimprovingonanalmostweeklybasis.Thiswinter,we installedchevron-shapedropepatternsinkeylandingareastohelpprotecttheturf fromheavycarttrafficduringthecoolermonths.

Astemperaturesbegintorise,weareenteringamoreactivegrowingperiodforthe grass.Bermudagrassthriveswhenthecombinedtotalofdaytimehighsand nighttimelowsreachesapproximately140degrees.Whiledaytimetemperaturesof 75°Fandnighttimelowsof55°Fmayfeelcomfortable,theseconditionscanlimitturf growth.
