Impact Stories 2024

Numotion Foundation Continued Support of Fractured Atlas & the Opulent Mobility Project for Fifth Consecutive Year

Opulent Mobility is an international annual exhibit that asks artists to re-imagine disability as opulent and powerful. It imagines a world where disability is celebrated instead of denied, ignored, and feared. These exhibits are curated by founder A. Laura Brody and disability arts activist and photographer Anthony Tusler and include art and artworks from across the country and around the globe.

A.LauraBrodyprovidedthefollowingimpactstory:

Opulent Mobility 2024 was held at the Los Angeles Makery in December 2024, featuring artists from across the United States and as far away as Belgium, New Zealand, Spain, and the United Kingdom. In addition, Opulent Mobility was invited to hold a retrospective exhibit through USC’s Visions and Voices programming.

Artists shared digital files from all over and could have them printed and framed locally. This simple step makes it easier and accessible for disabled artists to share their work and to gain recognition in the fine arts world. The team was also able to assist artists who shipped their work by covering half of the mailing costs. Funding also supported American Sign Language interpretation for the artist talk and art descriptions for our Blind and low vision audiences.

“Thanks to the Numotion Foundation, Opulent Mobility continued to uplift, celebrate, and support disabled artists!” - A. Laura Brody

Numotion Foundation Continued Support of Dare2Tri

Dare2Tri is a Chicago-based 501(c)3 non-profit organization whose mission is to enhance the lives of individuals living with physical disabilities and visual impairments by building confidence, community, health, and wellness through swimming, biking, and running.

KeriSerota,ExecutiveDirectorofDare2Tri,providedthefollowingimpactstory:

At Dare2tri, the mission is to empower athletes of all abilities - from beginners to elite competitors - in their journey toward physical activity, goal-setting, and meaningful community engagement. These programs change lives by fostering self-esteem, confidence, and overall well-being. We believe that everyone deserves access to the transformative power of sports, regardless of physical limitations, and we work hard to eliminate barriers to participation for those with physical disabilities and visual impairments.

Due to the support from the Numotion Foundation grant, Dare2tri is able to host para-triathlon camps where participants from across the country come together for three days of swimming, biking, running and racing. Each summer, four camps are offered, including the flagship Learn2Tri Camp for beginners and Train2Race Camp for intermediate and advanced athletes. These camps provide more than just training; they foster resilience, create lasting bonds, and build confidence both on and off the course. For those who need it, Dare2tri also provides adaptive equipment, guides for visually impaired athletes, travel stipends, and transportation assistance—ensuring that no one is left behind due to financial or logistical barriers.

“With the generosity of the Numotion Foundation, we’re able to offer these life-changing experiences to hundreds of participants each year, often at little or no cost depending on financial need. This support helps make Dare2tri’s camps truly inclusive, opening doors for individuals to realize their potential, push their limits, and achieve personal milestones they might have thought were out of reach. Thank you for helping us make these transformative moments possible!” - Keri Serota

Gaylord Gauntlet

Race in Support of Adaptive Athletes and the Gaylord Sports Association

The Gaylord Gauntlet is a 5k race with more than 20 man-made and natural obstacles. All proceeds benefit the Gaylord Sports Association and its adaptive sports programs. The event is held on the grounds of Gaylord Hospital in Wallingford, Connecticut.

KatelynMuolo,AssistantDirectorofEvents&DonorRelationsofGaylordSpecialty Healthcare,providedthefollowingimpactstory:

Guillain-Barré Syndrome, a rare COVID-induced condition left Lenny Lamarre paralyzed and fully dependent on a ventilator to breathe. “There were days where I thought I was going to be in bed for the rest of my life,” he said.

Lenny came to Gaylord Hospital for intensive inpatient care and rehabilitation where he worked to regain his function and independence. During his three-month stay, Lenny learned about the Gaylord Gauntlet. Lenny told his family and Gaylord staff that someday he would take on the challenge and give back to the organization that “gave him his life back.”

Only nine months after his discharge and now able to walk independently, Lenny and his team of family, friends and coworkers– aptly named Lenny’s Legion – returned to Wallingford to compete in the Gaylord Gauntlet.

Lenny was grateful to participate in tribute to his family, friends, and the medical professionals who supported him through his difficult experience, saying, “Never think that you can’t do something. Just keep driving forward and don’t defeat yourself. Always keep going.”

Families get to enjoy a Saturday morning ride together, regardless of their ability or equipment. It is amazing to see the growth in both the participant’s skill and confidence as they take on rides they may have never thought possible.” - Hayley Bevan, ARCH Program Coordinator

Numotion Foundation Continued Support of Disability EmpowHER Network

Disability EmpowHer Network is an organization run for and by girls and women with disabilities that connects, motivates, and guides disabled girls and women to grow, learn, and develop to their highest potential and have the confidence to lead.

SophiePoost,DirectorofProgramsandStephanieWoodward,ExecutiveDirectorof DisabilityEmpowHERNetworkprovidedthefollowingimpactstory:

Disability EmpowHer Network envisions a world where girls and women with disabilities recognize their value and believe in their ability to be leaders. However, research reveals that this vision has not yet been realized. Disabled girls often struggle with lower self-esteem and higher rates of depression and isolation. Women and girls with disabilities also face disparities in earnings, higher poverty rates, increased risk of domestic violence, and limited positive representation. Disability EmpowHer Network is dedicated to transforming these challenges and making their vision a reality.

Across the year, the team runs seven programs for disabled women and girls to learn new skills, connect with mentors, and build self-confidence. These programs include EmpowHer Camp, a year-long leadership development and mentoring experience for teenagers with disabilities, EmpowHer Expressions, an 8-week virtual public speaking program, and Letters from a Role Model, a penpal program for women and girls with disabilities to connect with successful disabled women role models.
