Creating Profound Impact Together
A Message from the Head of Girls' Junior, Mrs Claire Brown
We offer girls an academically outstanding education filled with awe and wonder that prepares them for their journey to the Senior School. 4
Outside of the classroom, we offer an outstanding outdoor learning experience. We are fortunate to have our own Forest School, outdoor tipi and wild wood den, where our trained professionals encourage our pupils to engage in hands-on activities that promote teamwork, problemsolving and resilience.
Our school values of ambition, curiosity, courage and community are at the heart of all we do at Habs and these values are presented to the girls the moment they walk through our doors.
Pastoral care is at the heart of all we do, we endeavour to ensure that every girl is well known and cared for. We teach our girls to care for one another and understand the role they play within our richly diverse community.
Our curriculum is dynamic and ambitious, providing the pupils with exciting yet meaningful experiences in the classroom and beyond. We encourage everyone to take risks, investigate and explore. We seek to develop and nurture well-rounded individuals who are academically ambitious, while also sharing a passion for sport, music and the arts.
We know that girls perform best when we work in partnership, this is why we truly value working alongside you, as parents. We hold a range of events for our parent community - year group breakfasts, Family Fridays and a range of performances and sporting events.
Whilst the girls are taught in a single-sex environment, we are fortunate to share our 100-acre campus with Habs Boys, which allows for frequent collaboration with Boys’ Prep and Pre-Prep School. From Planetarium trips to lunchtime music concerts, we create opportunities for friendship and learning in a supportive and safe environment. By encouraging a genuine love of learning, with exceptional pastoral care and a broad co-curricular programme, we equip our girls to move on to the next stages in their educational journey, prepared to make a profound impact in the world. I look forward to welcoming you to our school. MRS CLAIRE BROWN
Head of Junior School

Creating Profound Impact Together
We do not simply teach students about making a difference. We give them opportunities to make a difference now. 6
Purpose Our purpose is to empower young people to make a profound impact in the world. We believe that young people learn best when they have opportunities to apply their knowledge, values and Habits beyond the classroom. That is why service, leadership and community engagement are woven into the fabric of school life. Through our award-winning Partnerships Programme, students work alongside local schools and community organisations, supporting younger pupils, leading activities and helping to create opportunities for others. In doing so, they develop many of the Habits that define a Habs education: Leadership, Care, Collaboration, Initiative and Social Responsibility.
Each week, more than 500 Habs students contribute to partnership activities that support almost 2,000 pupils across our local community. These experiences challenge students to step outside their comfort zones, take responsibility and recognise the positive impact they can have on the lives of others. Importantly, this is not one-way support. Our partnerships are built on mutual learning and mutual benefit. Our students gain new perspectives, deepen their understanding of the world around them and learn that leadership is most powerful when it is grounded in service. The impact is measurable. Through sustained collaboration with partner schools, attendance among disadvantaged pupils has increased by 10.1%, equivalent to an additional day in school every two weeks.
But perhaps the most important impact is on our own students, who learn that education carries both opportunity and responsibility. This commitment to creating positive change was recognised nationally when Habs was named Independent School of the Year 2025. The award celebrated not simply academic excellence, but a school that combines ambition with action, excellence with empathy and leadership with service. For us, however, the greatest measure of success is not an award. It is seeing students use their talents, energy and Habits to make a meaningful difference to the people and communities around them.
Creating Profound Impact Together
At Habs, creating profound impact is not an aspiration for the future. It is something our students experience, practise and contribute to every day.
Because creating profound impact is not something our students wait to do when they leave school. It starts here.

A Community of Purpose
Creating Profound Impact Together
For more than 300 years, the Haberdashers' community has believed in the transformative power of education. Habs Girls is part of the Haberdashers' Elstree Education Group, a family of four schools comprising Habs Girls, Habs Boys, Lochinver House School and St Martin's School. While each school has its own distinctive character, all are united by a shared purpose, common values and a commitment to helping students fulfil their potential and make a positive difference in the world. The Haberdashers' Elstree Education Group is one of four school groups supported by the Haberdashers' Company, one of the UK's oldest livery companies and a longstanding champion of education. For generations, the Company has invested in schools, widened educational opportunity and supported young people from a wide range of backgrounds to thrive and succeed.
8
Today, the wider Haberdashers' family educates more than 12,000 students across independent and state schools throughout the UK. Together, these schools form a diverse educational community connected by a belief that knowledge, character and opportunity can transform lives. This shared sense of purpose continues to shape everything we do. While the world around us has changed dramatically, our belief remains the same: that education should help young people develop the knowledge, character and confidence to contribute positively to society.
T H E H A B E R DA S H E R S' A DVA N TAG E Being part of the Haberdashers' family gives our students access to opportunities that extend far beyond a single school. Through the Haberdashers' Advantage Programme, students collaborate with peers from across the Haberdashers' network, broaden their horizons and develop the confidence and skills needed for life beyond school. Whether through leadership programmes, career conferences, entrepreneurial challenges or opportunities to engage with leading professionals, students are encouraged to explore their interests, strengthen their Habits and develop a deeper understanding of the world around them. The programme reflects many of the values at the heart of a Habs education: curiosity, initiative, leadership, collaboration and a commitment to continuous learning.
Strong Governance. Lasting Purpose.
Habs benefits from the support and governance of the Haberdashers' Company, whose members bring expertise from a wide range of professions and industries. Through governance, strategic oversight and investment in education, they help ensure that our schools remain ambitious, innovative and true to their purpose.
For more than 300 years, the Haberdashers' community has believed that education has the power not only to change individual lives, but to improve society as a whole.
Creating Profound Impact Together
Behind every great school is a commitment to stewardship.
This partnership provides both stability and ambition: preserving the values that have shaped generations of students while ensuring that Habs continues to evolve and remain at the forefront of education. For our students, this means belonging to something much bigger than a single school. It means becoming part of a community that spans generations, professions and educational settings, connected by a shared commitment to learning, leadership and service.

Creating Profound Impact Together
Our Purpose
10
Habs pupils are bright, ambitious, globally curious and resilient, with a desire to improve themselves. We also know how important it is for them to develop their personal skills and attributes. This is why we prioritise our outstanding range of co-curricular opportunities as part of our curriculum.
We equip our pupils with resilience, empathy, creativity and leadership – which is why the mark of a Habs education is a person who is kind, confident and inclusive, and who has a strong moral compass.
Creating Profound Impact Together
At Habs, our purpose is simple: to empower young people to make a profound impact in the world.

11
Creating Profound Impact Together
The Habs are how we turn our values into actions and our purpose into reality. We become what we repeatedly do. At Habs, our purpose is to empower young people to make a profound impact in the world. But purpose alone is not enough. Students do not become resilient, creative, compassionate or courageous simply because we tell them these qualities matter. They develop them through practice, reflection and experience over time. That belief sits at the heart of the Habs Habits.
12
The Habits are the mindsets, behaviours and dispositions that students practise every day. Grounded in our values of Ambition, Curiosity, Courage and Community, they help students develop the character, confidence and judgement needed to thrive in a changing world, lead with purpose and make a positive difference to others. Every lesson, every team, every performance, every leadership opportunity and every partnership experience becomes an opportunity to strengthen these Habits. Together, they shape how students think, learn, lead and contribute.

Habs is a through school, so when pupils join us in Reception, they will automatically move into Year 3, then into our Senior School after Year 6. Our Junior girls do not sit the external 11+ entrance assessments and our intention is always that our pupils move into Year 7 but we know this will not be the right choice for a very small number of pupils. We closely monitor each girl’s academic progress and emotional wellbeing throughout their time in Junior School, and we partner with parents to help us all come to the right decision for the child.

The Habs curriculum
Habs’ 2030 vision is to be at the forefront of education. Being at the forefront of education does not mean simply doing well at delivering the ordinary. It means striving to be extraordinary. Our curriculum is ambitious and valued highly at national and international level. Ambition must be tied to innovation, though, and we are constantly working to develop our curriculum to deliver the skills of tomorrow, not yesterday.
20
Employers predict that 39% of required skills for the world of work will be different by 2030 (WEF, 2025). Our curriculum must not only match our values of ambition, curiosity, courage and community - it must focus on crucial human dispositions such as collaboration, problemsolving, communication and original thinking that our pupils will need for life and for the workplace.
Since the appointment of Clare Jarmy, our Director of Innovation, in April 2024, The Habs Innovation Centre has developed cutting-edge opportunities for our pupils, including new curriculum and assessment pathways and the safe and secure implementation of generative AI tools for teaching and learning.
We believe in the benefit of single-sex education. Our girls-only classes allow our pupils to thrive in an environment free of gender expectations. CO - EDUC ATIONAL
That said, our girls also need to be able to work alongside, learn from and build relationships with boys. In Reception to Year 2, pupils enjoy some shared playtimes and activities like joint musical workshops, Forest School, trips, egg hunts and teddy bears’ picnics. In Year 3 to Year 6, pupils enjoy some shared lunch and playtimes, plus activities like script-writing, maths workshops and a joint planetarium experience. We also have a joint choir, Lunchtime Live performances and joint sports festivals
OUTDOOR EDUC ATION
For all pupils, our outdoor learning sessions and their unique woodland setting are a key part of our Junior School curriculum. Outdoor education is a great way for girls to learn different things in different ways, increasing their engagement, improving academic performance and providing greater understanding of the world. Reception to Year 3 enjoy a weekly or fortnightly Forest School session. Year 4 to Year 6 participate in a weekly outdoor learning session, helping them develop their social and technical skills. Our specially commissioned tipi classroom is also used to teach core curriculum subjects such as Maths and English. OUR WOODL AND FORES T SCHOOL
Our Forest School offers opportunities for climbing, jumping, balancing and crawling experiences, while also encouraging creativity We use outdoor learning experiences to encourage and inspire the children, developing their emotional and social ‘soft’ skills.
RECEP TION
Our learning happens both indoors and outdoors. The structure of each day varies, with a mix of whole-class sessions, small-group learning directed by our teachers and learning initiated by your child. In addition to child-led ‘Learn and Explore’ time, our Reception pupils enjoy weekly subject specialist lessons, including PE, Performing Arts and Spanish, as well as Forest School. We also introduce weekly swimming lessons in the Summer Term. YE AR 3 AND UP (KE Y S TAGE 2)
We offer a broad and balanced curriculum. Our class teachers are responsible for teaching the core subjects, as well as Humanities, Religious Studies and PSHE. Computing, Art and Design Technology, Performing Arts, Physical Education and Outdoor Learning are all taught by specialists. Pupils continue to learn Spanish throughout Key Stage 2, but we also introduce French and Latin in Year 6 to prepare the pupils for the Senior School. All language lessons are taught by specialist teachers.

How we
22
Care
In the Junior School we seek to foster a sense of belonging and make sure that all our girls understand what it is to care and to be cared for. We take pride in ensuring that all our girls feel safe and are given the support to thrive. Habs is a place where children can feel safe and happy but sometimes even young children can have worries and concerns. We are here to help.
PERSONAL , SOCIAL AND HE ALTH EDUC ATION (PSHE)
Class teachers take weekly PSHE lessons, using a carefully designed bespoke curriculum. We also collaborate with external speakers and conduct workshops to provide our pupils with a greater understanding of how to support their own wellbeing, covering topics such as mental health and online safety. BUDDY
All new pupils are paired with a ‘buddy’, who will support and help them in their first few days. We also arrange a series of exciting activities with their ‘buddy’ throughout the academic year. Reception girls are paired with a ‘buddy’ from Year 5. New pupils in Year 3 are paired with a ‘buddy’ from their own year group.
SCHOOL HOUSES
All pupils belong to one of our four houses: Aardvarks, Chameleons, Puffins and Seahorses. Our House system provides an additional layer of pastoral support and allows the girls to forge relationships outside of their own year groups. Our pupils also enjoy a range of House events throughout the year. PA S TOR AL TE AM
We seek to work closely with our parent community and support our pupils at various levels. This might be through your child’s class teacher, a subject teacher, an individual needs teacher or in smaller group sessions. Pupils with known medical conditions are on a special medical register, with the school nurse holding individual medical plans. We have dedicated staff responsible for pastoral care: our class teachers are always the first port-of-call for any pastoral concerns, as they know the children best.
You are also able to speak with our Phase Leaders, or Mrs Claire Brown (Head of Junior School) or Ms Ursula Elliott (Deputy Head Pastoral). A TOOLED UP SCHOOL
Habs Girls and Habs Boys are partnered with Tooled Up Education, which provides a collection of online resources curated by one of the UK’s leading experts on parental engagement in children’s lives and learning, Dr Kathy Weston.
Creating Profound Impact Together
Throughout the week, the children will have assemblies and form time.
SPIRITUALIT Y
At Habs we celebrate the diverse range of faith backgrounds that our pupils belong to. Throughout the school year, assemblies are held to acknowledge significant religious festivals which are led by our pupils and parents. We encourage our pupils to develop their own spiritual wellbeing; to support this we have a multi-faith room which all our pupils can use for prayer or quiet reflection.

How we
24
Explore
The Junior School uses all the facilities on the school campus. We have incorporated a longer lunch break to ensure all pupils participate in co-curricular activities. After school activities also take place from 4pm, with the support of late coaches at 5.30pm. We have superb indoor and outdoor sports facilities plus a wide range of indoor spaces for music, rehearsals, workshops and performances. These include the Lime Tree Studio – a stateof-the-art purpose built drama studio and rehearsal space, a 550 seat performance hall with extensive digital production facilities and an additional purpose-built black-box studio for teaching and examination shows, two music halls and five halls with various capacity.
Sport facilities include an outdoor sprint track, grass track, multiple football pitches, rugby track, nine outdoor tennis courts (astro and concrete surface), two hockey pitches (astro surface), climbing and bouldering walls, outdoor cricket nets, the Indoor Solai Cricket Centre (including bowling machines and projector screen for video replays), two 25m swimming pools, an indoor sports hall, fitness suite and squash courts. From 2025, we have partnered with London Pulse, one of the UK’s leading netball franchises, through their School Netball Support Partnership programme. London Pulse aims to bridge the gap between school and elite netball, providing a wealth of resources to improve player and team performance.
This exciting collaboration sees both our Junior and Senior Schools benefiting from worldclass support. Our pupils will receive high-performance coaching, player development opportunities, inspirational workshops, elite pupil-athlete mentoring, career shadowing and discover the talent pathways into elite netball.
Creating Profound Impact Together
Our extensive range of co-curricular activities plays an essential role in fostering independence, creativity, and leadership in our pupils. Designed to support girls in their personal development, our programme offers opportunities that help to build character, resilience, and teamwork while allowing them to explore their passions outside the classroom.
Discovering New Possibilities 25
Creating Profound Impact Together
Our co-curricular programme is not just a key part of school life here at Habs, but also a powerful tool for building lifelong skills. Through participation in this broad range of activities, girls develop essential qualities such as resilience, creativity, leadership and collaboration.
Whether it is through competitive sports, artistic performance, or critical thinking challenges, each club encourages pupils to step out of their comfort zone, strengthen their problemsolving abilities and refine their communication skills. Through these diverse experiences, girls leave the Junior School with a strong sense of self, a love of learning and skills that will empower them in the Senior School and beyond. We are proud to offer a programme that encourages every girl to find her passion, build friendships and develop the confidence to lead. Our co-curricular programme is structured around four key themes to provide a well-rounded experience for every girl: Think and Speak, Create and Construct, Sport and Music and Performance.
26
THINK AND SPE AK
This theme is all about nurturing communication, critical thinking and self-expression. Whether it is through clubs like Latin, debating, LAMDA or chess, our girls are encouraged to think creatively, engage in lively discussions and build confidence in public speaking. Touch-typing and philosophy further enhance their ability to articulate ideas and explore new concepts.
CRE ATE AND CONS TRUC T
This theme provides a creative outlet for girls who love design, craftsmanship and building. Activities such as calligraphy, needlework, arts and crafts, Lego construction, and papercraft give them the opportunity to bring their ideas to life while honing their fine motor skills and imagination.
Click here to listen to the making of the Orchestral Concert
We believe every girl should experience the benefits of physical activity, whether for fitness or personal growth. Our sports programme caters to all interests, from lacrosse and netball to cricket and more. We also offer unique clubs like ‘Sport Around the World,’ encouraging girls to develop teamwork, resilience and a sense of healthy competition. Those with exceptional athletic talent are supported to excel further in their chosen sport. MUSIC AND PERFORMANCE
In the Junior School, it is our intention to encourage and nurture every girl’s love of the performing arts in an ambitious way through the strands of music, drama and dance. To support every child’s individual curiosity and passion, we provide a vast array of co-curricular club offerings to suit every child’s taste. Some of our performing arts club offerings include string, brass and woodwind chamber ensembles, Symphony Orchestra, performing arts club, rock bands, multiple choirs, music technology and composition. For our Year 3 pupils, we have introduced a free instrumental scheme for one year, to give all pupils the opportunity to learn an instrument in small groups.
To develop as a performer and ensemble member, Habs girls are provided with many wonderful opportunities to perform throughout the academic year from large scale class productions with costumes, lighting and sound, to solo and chamber ensemble concerts, Christmas and Harvest festivals, and summer productions. The children are also offered the opportunity to perform externally at important performance venues and cathedrals throughout London, as well as collaborations in the wider community and at national competitions. RESIDENTIAL S
At Habs, we take pride in offering a dynamic and enriching residentials programme that extends learning far beyond the classroom. Beginning in Year 3, our residential trips programme is carefully designed to grow with the girls, starting with a one-night stay and culminating in an exciting four-night adventure in Year 6. These experiences foster independence, resilience and teamwork, allowing our pupils to build confidence while making memories with their peers.
Whether it is a bushcraft experience or a geographical fieldwork expedition, these residentials are an essential part of our curriculum, promoting personal development and a spirit of curiosity and adventure. TRIPS
In addition to residentials, our trips programme encompasses a wide range of engaging opportunities across the curriculum. From visiting Windsor Castle to experiencing life in a Victorian school, our pupils immerse themselves in hands-on learning. Highlights include an Anglo-Saxon experience and a visit to Francis Drake’s *Golden Hinde*, enriching our history curriculum. Within school, we also bring learning to life through exciting workshops such as an interactive history session on the Great Fire of London, a planetarium visit and a collective art project with a local artist. Our Religious Studies curriculum is complemented by visits to a range of places of worship, helping the girls gain a deep appreciation for different cultures and beliefs.

Students travel to Habs from across Hertfordshire, North London and beyond, bringing together a rich mix of backgrounds, perspectives and experiences. This diversity strengthens our community and helps students develop the openmindedness, confidence and awareness needed to thrive in an increasingly interconnected world. While our beautiful 100-acre campus provides a unique environment for learning and exploration, we know that accessibility matters. That is why we operate one of the largest school transport networks in the region, helping students travel safely and efficiently to and from school each day.
Around 70% of students use our coach network, which serves communities across Hertfordshire and North London. Routes extend from Harpenden, Redbourn and Welwyn Garden City in the north to Camden, Belsize Park and St John's Wood in the south, with connections to key rail and Underground stations including Radlett, Elstree & Borehamwood, Stanmore and Edgware. Our transport network enables students to make the most of life at Habs, whether attending an early morning music rehearsal, staying after school for sport, participating in a society, or taking part in leadership and partnership activities. It helps ensure that geography is never a barrier to opportunity.

Creating Profound Impact Together
Ready to make a difference
38
At Habs Girls, success is not measured solely by grades, university offers or career pathways.
It is measured by the difference our students make. Through our purpose, our values and our Habits, we develop curious learners, confident leaders and forces for good—students with the character, confidence and ambition to make a positive difference in the world.
Creating Profound Impact Together
PURPOSE . VALUES. HABITS. IMPAC T.
That is the Habs difference. 39
