Welcome to your city, the city of Las Vegas.
Las Vegas is a beautiful place to live. I often hear from visitors who marvel at our incredible, consistent blue sky and warm weather, but when I do, I always think that they should come back to Las Vegas in the fall when the leaves are changing and our temperatures are lovely.
Fall is a great season to enjoy the outdoors and visit our parks with their many amenities. We have options for everyone regardless of their choice each of which mirrors our energetic city and its varied population. Our population has created a tapestry of offerings that reflect our community’s uniqueness with an array of services, events and proof the many cultures, nationalities, religions, races and interests of our residents. Because of a wonderful quality of life we enjoy, we wanted to create a simple guide that allows for finding and exploring all that we offer. That is exactly what the Discover Las Vegas Guide provides.
Please take a few minutes to look through this publication and find the activities that are right for you and your family. We offer sports and activities for all ages as well as an array of cultural programming, with concerts, festivals, art classes and poetry readings. Or maybe you would like to reserve a picnic pavilion at one of our more than 70 parks or find a playground or walking trail?
This publication, along with our website www.lasvegasnevada.gov/Discover, serves as resource guides to help you connect to community services. It’s all here for you as you discover Las Vegas!

The city offers two areas of focus in youth development – educational initiatives and equity initiatives. We work to supplement education through high-quality preschool programs, before- and after-school programming and community partnerships designed to improve educational achievement, attendance and graduation rates. We also are working to improve our community through social justice programs, increasing social opportunities through innovation.
We focus on:
• Strong Start through childhood education and the city’s Strong Start Preschool Academies.
• Strong Schools through ReInvent Schools
Las Vegas, Safekey before- and after-school programs and individual school support.
• Strong Future through post-secondary options and school-to-career pathways through Batteries Included, Batteries Included NextGen, college tours, paid internships and workforce education training programs.
• Strong Community through:
• The Mayor’s Faith Initiative
• Las Vegas My Brother’s Keeper Alliance
• Harbor Juvenile Assessment Center
• Youth Neighborhood Association Partnership Program
• AmeriCorps Service
• Member State Program
• Latino Network of Southern Nevada

The Strong Start GO! Mobile Pre-K Academy programs provide families in underserved communities with a unique opportunity to attend a high-quality, early learning program in their neighborhood. During production, standard RVs are transformed into mobile preschool classrooms, complete with a restroom, learning centers, and traditional preschool furniture and equipment. Strong Start GO! Mobile Pre-K Academies offer half-day preschool programs for children ages 3-5 and focus on the academic, social-emotional and physical development of each child in addition to providing families with opportunities to engage in their child’s learning. Strong Start GO! Mobile Pre-K Academies serve four locations and a maximum of 20 students per location. The Strong Start GO! team is planning to increase the mobile pre-K program by adding two additional mobile units, which will add four classrooms in August 2023. Registration is available online only. Launched in 2016, ReInvent Schools Las Vegas (RSLV) is a collaboration between the city, the Clark County School District, University of Nevada Las Vegas, local businesses and nonprofit organizations to improve outcomes for the Las Vegas community. The seven sites provide academic growth opportunities and enrichment activities, along with family engagement programming. Participating students receive daily instruction in core subject areas as well as the opportunity to participate in enrichment activities. Daily activity examples include project-based learning, learning through literature and STEAM curriculum.

The Little Library initiative began in 2018 as a part of our commitment to academic achievement, emphasizing youth literacy efforts. This initiative encourages community engagement by calling on community members to take a book or share a book with their neighbors. With the support of great community partners, 16 free little libraries have been installed within our community. Free little libraries play an important role by providing all-hours access to books and encouraging a love of reading in areas where books are scarce. “Take a book, leave a book” is the general idea behind the “Little Libraries” free book exchange, which is intended to encourage reading for all ages, promote community involvement, improve literacy rates, and increase access to books in areas around the city.
