THE LOOP

Greetings from WestCare Nevada,

As with each new year comes the promise of new opportunities to serve and further impact the lives of individuals and families within our care. With this, a project that has been gaining steady support over the last couple of years, The Village at the Women and Children's Campus, was just awarded $2.5M in federal Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agency (THUD) funding. This generous gift only puts more wind in our sails as we prepare to officially break ground later this year on the 63,623 squarefoot plot that will provide 84 transitional living units for women and their children.

Meanwhile, we will implement Resource Center services for Health

Plan of Nevada (HPN) members at the Community Triage Center (CTC) The Resource Center clients will have access to the full benefits offered at the CTC including day treatment, shelter, case management, psychoeducation, therapeutic groups, showers, laundry, hot meals, and donations.

Additionally, this year, we will be securing office space to provide outpatient treatment in Reno and Sparks, NV – further impacting new communities with the same services that have already changed countless lives in Southern Nevada.

As you read this issue, we hope that you enjoy a glimpse of recent

happenings within our state and programs that include:

A recap of Music on the Mountain

A donation from Realty ONE for the WCC

A donation from Zappos for the WCC and HSR

The Nevada CAC’s holiday gifts for the WCC

A special donation to the WCC by Congressman Horsford

The various donations received from community groups for NV’s programs

To our generous stakeholders, members of Nevada leadership who guide the way through their experience and service, and our staff who are on the frontlines every day empowering and working with the individuals, families, and Veterans in our care – thank you. While this line of work is not always the most glamorous, it is crucial, and thanks to our combined efforts, we are improving our community for the better one day at a time.

Until next time, I'd like to wish you and your loved ones a safe, happy, and prosperous new year full of new opportunities and personal growth.

Holiday Cheer Arrived at WestCare Nevada

WestCare Nevada fought the Grinch this year and ensured that we were able to provide gifts and joy for hundreds of families that we serve. As we were coming down to the last few hours before the gift giving was supposed to begin, our VP of Operations, Leo Magrdichian, never lost faith and the holidays were once again bright for those that we serve. Generous donations came pouring in Thursday, late into the night on behalf of:

Anonymous family donated robes for WCC and sherpa hoodies for HSR

Anonymous Veteran couple and friends

WestCare Las Vegas Alumni Group

WestCare Spiritual Alumni Group

Too many volunteers to even name came to our aide and set up the most amazing Christmas shopping experience in the Women and Children’s Campus’ Spiritual Garden and at various other facilities around the Nevada programs. The expressions on the children and families we serve said it all. Tears of joy turned into laughter and glee as children ran through the gift shops playing with Legos, games, Barbies and riding their new bikes. Many families, who would have otherwise had no gifts under the tree, were able to celebrate and enjoy time together with cookies, hot chocolate, and popcorn.

Thank you to everyone for spreading holiday cheer to WestCare Nevada and all those we serve.

Music on the Mountain

On the first weekend of December, the WestCare Alumni were able to put on their annual Music on the Mountain event They brought food, fun, presents, and games to the men and women in treatment at Harris Spring Ranch (HSR) and Women and Children’s Campus (WCC), respectively.

The WestCare Alumni also took over the kitchens at HSR and WCC to make homemade chili, sandwiches, cornbread, non-alcoholic beverages, and an abounding number of pastries, sweets and cookies. While food was being prepared, games were played and those participating could win additional prizes. Clients had fun joining the festivities and perfectly illustrated the message that you can have fun in recovery.

Afterwards, a group meeting was conducted where stories were shared alongside many messages of hope. Presents and WestCare Alumni T-shirts were passed out. We ensured that everyone received a gift. As the clients were called and given their present, they were asked what they would like for Christmas. Many shared that they wanted long-term recovery, to repair relationships with their families, and to live a happy healthy life - all the gifts that recovery can offer.

Our WestCare Alumni put on three events a year to give back what was freely given to them in hopes that current clients can see that they too can live a life free from all substances. Our Alumni offer support to those in treatment and fresh into recovery. With shared lived experiences, they help guide our clients in their new journey. Our WestCare Alumni look forward to the opportunity to offer larger events where more fun and support can be offered to our clients as we Uplift the Human Spirit together!

Congressman Steven Horsford Visits the WCC

Nevada Congressman Steven Horsford has been a longtime friend to WestCare through the years. He recently visited our Women and Children’s Campus (WCC) to present a check in support of our planned expansion to the facility and experienced what Uplifting the Human Spirit means within the program.

We can't wait to see him back for the groundbreaking of The Village, our exciting expansion of 84 transitional living units for women and their children to the WCC that we plan to begin in the spring! Thank you for the generous gift to support our women and children and for your friendship over the years!

Realty ONE Group Supports WCC Again This Holiday Season

We appreciate all the agents and staff at Realty ONE Group and would like to especially acknowledge Mackenzie Hopson and Christina Ettedgui who have helped so many people have a happy holiday and New Year.

You are definitely #1 in our book!

Fostering Relationships with Zappos for Good

Scott Faulkenberry, SVP and Chief Development Officer and myself received a tour at the Zappos headquarters in downtown Las Vegas on Dec. 14. The building used to be the old Las Vegas City Hall and it has so much history and character woven through its fabric. WestCare Nevada is venturing forth in building and fostering new relations with

Good has partnered with various nonprofits around the country to help facilitate donations to those who need them most. Manager and Event Leader at the Zappos Family of Companies, was very kind to us and donated five pallets of UGGs boots and Vans, as well as jackets and jewelry for those that we serve at the Women and Children’s Campus and Harris Springs Ranch

Zappos has been amazing in the community over the years and we will continue to build this relationship with them as we partner with volunteers at upcoming events!

12.20: The CAC Spreads Holiday Cheer

Andrew

The amazing WestCare Nevada Community Action Council (CAC) made the Women and Children’s Campus (WCC) and community in Las Vegas Nevada a little more festive and happier this holiday season by gifting gift cards to the women and their families to use for necessities and hygiene items. Children received bikes to cruise around in the hallways and gingerbread houses were built and decorated - resulting in some fun and candy-packed creations!

The awesome WCC staff were instrumental in spreading joy by giving their time to make those we serve smile and be full of holiday cheer this year. Thank you for your kindness. What a beautiful way to start out 2023!
