THE LOOP A COLLECTION OF STORIES FROM AROUND NEVADA

AUGUST 2026

ISSUE 51

VOLUME 5

Greetings from WestCare Nevada, As we move through another month at WestCare Nevada, this issue of The Loop reflects the many ways hope, connection, and community continue to shape the work we do every day. We recognize International Overdose Awareness Day, honoring lives lost to overdose, supporting those impacted, and renewing our commitment to prevention, treatment, recovery, and reducing stigma. We also feature Voices of Hope with Nancy T., whose story is a reminder that recovery is possible and that lived experience can be a powerful source of encouragement for others. From outreach in Lincoln County and Caliente to partnerships like Subaru Love Promise, this issue highlights the many ways WestCare connects individuals and families with important resources and support. At Sun Haven, “Food for Thought” creates new opportunities for fellowship and connection, while our Raiders community collaboration demonstrates the impact of strong partnerships and a shared commitment to making a difference.

This month, we also continue our focus on WestCare’s Shared Principles with Shared Principle #2: Treat Everyone with Dignity and Respect. It is a principle that guides how we serve, support, and connect with others, reminding us that every interaction is an opportunity to help people feel valued and supported. I am proud of the work taking place across WestCare Nevada and grateful to our staff and community partners who continue to show up with compassion, dedication, and purpose. I hope you enjoy this issue of The Loop and the stories that reflect our shared mission to Uplift the Human Spirit.

Spreading Hope

HOPE

IN LINCOLN COUNTY

A Second Chance, A New Beginning

Caliente Community Health & Resource Fair

By Nancy T., WestCare Nevada Alumni

By Leo Magrdichian, Vice President

When I decided to come to WestCare, I had just gotten out of jail and realized how much I had lost. I was tired of living under the influence and knew I never wanted to go back to that life again.

WestCare Nevada recently participated in the Caliente Community Health & Resource Fair, giving our team the opportunity to connect with residents of Lincoln County and share information about wellness and behavioral health resources.

At WestCare, I learned so much about myself. I found a safe place to live, met people who became like family, and received the support, hope, and encouragement I needed while fighting my federal case. The staff believed in me when I didn't believe in myself and helped me learn to put my recovery first.

Our team enjoyed meeting community members, answering questions, and helping connect residents with resources that can support their health and well-being. Community events like the Caliente Resource Fair also create an opportunity for residents to learn more about the services available to them and connect with organizations working to support their communities.

While living at WestCare, I found a job and continued working hard every day. Instead of being sentenced to jail, I was given the opportunity to keep rebuilding my life. I moved into my own apartment, reunited with my youngest daughter, was granted full custody, and rebuilt relationships with my other children and my parents. Today, I celebrate three years of sobriety. I have regained my children's trust, earned a stable full-time job, purchased my first car, and was recently promoted to Full-Time Housekeeping Manager. I will always be grateful to WestCare for believing in me and never giving up on me. Their faith in me helped me find faith in myself and build a future I am proud of.

For WestCare Nevada, bringing care and resources directly to rural communities is an important part of our work. Being present in communities like Lincoln County allows our team to build connections and help make information about behavioral health and wellness resources more accessible. We are grateful to everyone who stopped by the WestCare Nevada booth and took the time to connect with our team. We also appreciate the organizers and participating community organizations who helped bring this event to Lincoln County. WestCare Nevada looks forward to continuing to connect with rural communities and share resources that can support individuals and families throughout Nevada.

DEVELOPMENT

& Partnerships WestCare Nevada and Subaru Unite Community

Spiritual CORNER Food for Thought

By Andrew Moran, Development Director

By Chaplain Ryan, Spiritual Care Director

WestCare Nevada was honored to be part of Subaru’s National Business Conference in Las Vegas on August 26, 2026, celebrating a partnership rooted in the belief that every person deserves to feel safe, supported, and cared for.

This August, Sun Haven launched Food for Thought, a new weekly interfaith group designed to bring residents together through food, fellowship, spiritual reflection, and meaningful conversation. Spiritual Aftercare Fellowship (Alumni) Leaders host the group, with Board Certified and clinically trained Chaplains present to provide spiritual support and field theological questions.

Through Subaru’s continued commitment to its Subaru Love Promise, WestCare received a generous furniture donation that will help transform the Women & Children’s Campus into a warm, welcoming home for mothers and children rebuilding their lives. These furnishings will create spaces where families can gather, connect, rest, and begin imagining a brighter future. The impact will extend beyond Southern Nevada, with programs across the WestCare network also benefiting from the donation. The conference was also a wonderful opportunity to connect with Subaru leaders from around the globe and celebrate the partnership that made this donation possible. We are deeply grateful to Subaru, Arnold Stalk and Share Village, ONE10 Marketing, and everyone who helped bring this partnership to life. Together, we are creating more than comfortable spaces. We are creating environments where families can heal, connect, and believe in what comes next. Thank you, Subaru, for putting your Love into action and helping WestCare continue its mission of Uplifting the Human Spirit.

During each gathering, residents share passages from a variety of spiritual and faith-based books and explore how their messages connect to everyday life. Residents can also request spiritual or faith literature of their choosing and have received spiritually inspired keepsakes to support their personal reflection. Through “show and tell” opportunities, participants can bring a sacred or spiritual object and share how it supports their spiritual life. Open to all Sun Haven residents, regardless of faith or spiritual background, Food for Thought creates a welcoming space to reflect, learn from different perspectives, and connect with others. Special thanks to Chaplain Star Solano, Jeremy Armour, and Wendy Desmomi for helping make Food for Thought a success and creating an ongoing space for fellowship and spiritual care.

Connections Team Attends Summit By Lynandrea Glover, FORGE Program Manager

WestCare’s Connections team recently traveled to Dallas, Texas, to attend the Healthy Marriage and Responsible Fatherhood Summit, joining professionals and organizations from across the country dedicated to strengthening fathers, families, and communities. The summit provided valuable opportunities to learn about successful fatherhood programs, explore innovative approaches to family support, and exchange ideas with others doing similar work. Through presentations, conversations, and networking, the team gained new perspectives on how organizations are engaging fathers and helping families build stronger connections. The week was filled with meaningful conversations and opportunities to learn from others who share WestCare’s commitment to supporting fathers and families. The Connections team looks forward to bringing these insights and new ideas back to their work, helping the program continue to grow and better meet the needs of the families we serve. These connections and shared experiences help us bring new energy and ideas to the families we serve.
