Caterpillar: We Build the Invisible Layer of the Tech Stack

BY STEWART WOLPIN Caterpillar CEO Joe Creed understands the puzzled look on the faces of CES attendees as they wander past the company’s West Hall booth.

What’s Caterpillar doing at a consumer electronics show?

“It’s a fair question,” Creed acknowledged at the start of his CES keynote. Creed then calmly explained that “every digital experience, every app that you use, every AI model that you’re running, every connected device in this room, ultimately runs on physical infrastructure. And that doesn’t happen without Caterpillar.”

Over the last decade, Caterpillar has built and deployed a fleet of 1.5 million assets. To make all its huge machines—some the size of a three-story building and weighing more than a fully loaded jetliner—even safer and smarter, Creed announced Caterpillar’s Cat AI interactive multimodal (voice, text, image, video) chatbot, using Nvidia’s latest Jetson Thor robotics platform, which complements Caterpillar’s Helios

digital cloud platform. Caterpillar’s chief digital officer Ogi Redzic then conducted a live Cat AI demo with an operator sitting in an excavator in the company’s booth to set a height ceiling limit so as not to interfere with overhead power lines.

“Cat AI assistant is like a proactive partner,” Redzic described. “It flags machines that need attention, provides custom insights, and makes actionable recommendations.” Redzic explained that Cat AI does not depend on the cloud but works on machines, which means “the assistant still works in remote, off-grid locations in bad weather and tough environments.”

Caterpillar then announced f ive machines equipped with integrated Cat AI would be “coming soon.”

Finally, Creed wanted to address the AI elephant in the room—how AI-automated construction vehicles impact jobs. Creed announced to boisterous applause a $25 million investment to fund training, education, and partnerships designed to help people transition into new jobs created by AI. “We’re going to work

with our customers, our dealers, schools, and local community partners to put this into action.”

“Here’s what matters the most,” Creed stressed. “As the invisible layer of the modern tech stack gets smarter, the people who build and run it don’t disappear. In fact, they actually become more visible. New roles are going to emerge. Skills are going to evolve.

“We’re making the invisible layer of the modern tech stack much more intelligent,” Creed concluded, “and we’re investing just as boldly in the people who make it all possible.”

Bringing Big Ideas to Life with AI

BY WAYNE CAVADI New to CES for 2026, The Foundry at Fountainebleau was created to showcase artificial intelligence and quantum innovation where experts in the field united to shape ideas and discuss what is on the horizon. Tiffany Moore, SVP, political and industry affairs, CTA, opened the inaugural two-day showcase with an insightful panel with Jennifer Koester, president and COO, Sphere; Cris Turner, VP of knowledge and information products, Google, and, as a surprise, RZA from Wu Tang Clan, to take a deep dive into how advanced AI tools unlock new workflows, prototype ideas, and deliver new creative possibilities.

Koester and Turner began the panel by discussing how Google and Sphere worked together to unlock new opportunities in bringing Wizard of Oz to life on the massive display inside Las Vegas’ renowned orb. While Koester said there were many “a-ha” moments along the way, one stood out to Turner. It came outside the creative world when he saw a mayor train AI to know the city code, allowing employees to ask AI about code, permits, and other people they needed to know about. Did this unlock creativity? No, he explained, but what he saw was how AI could make

a practical impact—how you can enhance and make things better with a very intentional output.

RZA has been using AI for quite some time; however, it did not have the power it does today. For RZA and Wu Tang Clan, AI came in the form of sampling music. Now, he sees AI as one of the strongest assistants you can have in a creativity toolkit. He ex-

plained that he doesn’t think of the A in AI as artificial, but assistive, having the ability to amplify that creativity.

He also pointed out that the A could stand for acceleration. “What is most important for creativity is time,” he said. “With today’s technology, and AI assisting me, I can take three days and make it three hours.”

Turner chimed in that AI gives creatives the ability to fail quickly, adding to the concept of accelerated intelligence. You don’t lose months if you don’t like a take, he explained. Koester made it very clear that, even in a massive production like Wizard of Oz, it important to exercise caution. The creative process must still exist; AI needs to be used as a tool, not the creativity, or content creators won’t be successful.

Turner agreed. “I can buy Tiger Woods golf clubs, but I am still not Tiger Woods,” he added. But using AI as a tool can unlock creative possibilities like never before. Play with it intentionally, he concluded. Try and accelerate and affect the challenge, but most importantly, dust off that concept you had 10 years ago.

What was impossible for you as a creative then is now possible.

Work Rewired: The Next Tech Revolution

BY JOHN SCIACCA AI has been a huge part of the discussion at CES; however, what these new tools will mean, how will they change the workplace, and what skills will be needed to succeed in a world where AI is virtually ubiquitous. These are the questions that Suezette Yasmin Robotham, author and global keynote speaker, looked to answer as she moderated the “Work Rewired: The Next Tech Revolution” panel with guests from Amazon, Google, and Panasonic.

Robotham began by stating, “The world is changing at this point, second by second and day by day. AI is transforming the workplace.”

Olivia Igbokwe, director, Federal Affairs, Amazon, said that while Amazon has been developing and deploying AI for decades, generative AI is what has truly enveloped our lives. She sees human and artificial intelligence working together to save time and leveraging AI to help build on current skills and grow future talents. But she cautioned that we shouldn’t expect AI to replicate human nuances, and that it needs to be balanced with our human emotion and intelligence. She stressed that companies shouldn’t make it optional to use AI, but make AI training mandatory.

Hoda Hawa, senior manager, stakeholder engagement, Google, added that AI has really helped their

teams to be more productive, organized, and collaborative, “helping to bring out the brilliance in all of us.” She also echoed that human intelligence needs to be part of the process, saying that without the human genius behind it, AI can fall flat. But using AI effectively, say to cull through 12 months of work, meetings, and notes, can shave hours off your work day, giving you time back to be more strategic and visionary. “Identify the things that you can automate, that you can create and be productive with,” Hawa said.

She also stressed that the industry needs to educate people so they can see the value of what AI unlocks and not be fearful of the technology, and that people need to continue using their critical thinking skills in order to stay relevant.

Sandy Anuras, SVP global applied AI, Panasonic, discussed how people can be scared of change and scared for their job, stressing that everyone should be aware of how the technology will be leveraged to improve or change capabilities. She also said that so many things have changed with AI and that companies should re-examine old workflows and ideas.

“Challenge the assumptions and the things that have been a hard no or where you said, ‘We can’t do that,’ because they might be a yes now,” Anuras said.

People are going to watch.

“What we have lost in the world is common culture,” Wasserman said. He recollected how families and people used to sit around watching television shows like I Love Lucy, MASH, and Friends as a cultural phenomenon that everyone could talk about the next day. That is gone, but sports watching is not… and

it is growing at an incremental rate. Per Wasserman, 97 of the 100 most viewed shows in 2025 were sports.

Eighty-six of those 97 were NFL games. While winning still matters, Kassan said, it’s no longer enough.

Wasserman pointed to the NFL, a league that can sit back without a need to innovate because it commands money from a dedicated fanbase; however, the NFL continues to shine the light on what sports as a

Stadiums are embracing this as well. Las Vegas, home to CES, has undergone a sports renaissance in recent years with a hockey team, WNBA franchise, and the Oakland Raiders’ move to the city. Now, baseball is on the horizon, with an entire mini city encompassing it. Stadiums and sports have become community assets; someone is going to be a fan.

Naturally, the subject of AI came up, and Wasserman explained that the tool can generate content and manage presence but worries that could take away from authenticity. What AI needs to do for talent is accelerate the ability to communicate and engage, and then monetize it. That is what agencies do now. Help athletes monetize opportunities outside of their contracts, because the opportunities, especially with the advent of social media, are larger than ever before.

Beyond Wearables: Real Outcomes

In digital health, the promise has never simply been “more data.” The real breakthrough happens when technology turns numbers into insight, and insight into better outcomes, beginning with glucose monitoring.

For decades, diabetes care meant finger sticks, episodic snapshots that required effort and often delivered frustration and pain. When continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) arrived, researchers initially worried that patients wouldn’t know what to do with a constant stream of numbers. What actually happened was the opposite. Once people could see real-time patterns, behavior changed almost immediately.

No lectures. No complicated coaching. Just meaningful visibility.

“It’s not just about engagement. It’s about education. It’s about setting a context. It’s about making sure that they understand,” said Hale. “You want to be able to guide people down a path. That kind of power is about bringing information together in a context, in a user experience, when you have their attention. I think all of us would agree that we don’t want to be something that is an attention drain.”

That lesson, data only matters when it’s understandable, is pressing as healthcare becomes increasingly device-driven. Wearables, smart rings, blood pressure tools, remote sensors: they’re everywhere. But clinicians are already stretched thin, and none of them are begging for another dashboard. They need decision support layered into the electronic health record (EHR): context, risk flags, and evidence-based next steps that fit naturally into existing workflows.

The panelists pointed to the quiet but important work happening behind the scenes. Dexcom, for example, has spent years integrating CGM data directly into EHRs, eliminating app-hopping and friction for physicians. More than 160 clinics now use that approach. It’s part of what the panel called “architectures of participation”—giving patients agency, paired with “architectures of collaboration,” where device makers and EHR vendors finally start working in sync instead of shipping disconnected data streams.

There’s also a feeling that sensing itself is still early. Continuous blood pressure monitoring is high on the industry’s wish list, as is better visibility into kidney health. Others see opportunity in tracking hormones like cortisol, turning invisible stressors into signals people can act on in the same way glucose data demystified meal-to-metabolic responses.

The economics are shifting, too. With programs like CMS’s ACCESS initiative pushing outcomesbased reimbursement, value is migrating away from episodic visits toward continuous care at home. ROI now depends on who the patient is and what problem is being solved, preventing readmissions, supporting chronic disease, or simply helping healthy consumers stay that way.

The message presented by the panelists was clear: Data alone won’t fix healthcare, but data that is contextual, clinically integrated, and patient-empowering just might—especially if it reduces burden instead of adding to it. The next phase of digital health isn’t about collecting more signals. It’s about making the ones we already have even more usable.

“For many years, as a medical device, people used our products because they needed them to survive,” said Leach. “It alerted them when their glucose was dangerously low. Now it’s about engaging them and allowing them to get the power and the outcomes from the technology. But as you go to these broader populations, you really have to have an engaging experience.”

WH Tech Chief Kratsios IDs American AI Efforts

BY STEWART WOLPIN “When we came into office, it was very clear we were in a moment where the U.S. had to win this race in AI,” asserted White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) director Michael Kratsios during his “fireside” chat with CTA president Kinsey Fabrizio. Kratsios laid out a Federal AI vision encompassing a wide range of AI sectors and topics, including autonomous transportation, healthcare and pharmaceuticals, creativity and fair use, quantum computing, and, of course, jobs.

Kratsios focused on three overarching Federal AI themes: regulatory environment, energy, and the use of American AI tech.

On regulation, Kratsios stressed the need for a national framework rather than an anti-innovative patchwork of state-by-state laws. “A lot of [administration] effort is being done to try to identify rules that inhibit or slow down the adoption of AI around the around the country,” Kratsios reported. “It’s something that creates a lot of challenges for small startups and small businesses around the country.”

To address the growing need for electricity to power the growing number of AI data centers, Kratsios expressed the continued need of Federal investment in developing “breakthrough” energy tech.

Thirdly, Kratsios cited the importance of American tech being used in AI around the world. Kratsios lauded the administration’s American AI Export program and its new Tech Force (techforce.gov), a sort of tech Peace Corps designed to recruit private sector experts for one- or two-year terms to bring government operations into the AI century.

“We got a better response than we could have ever, ever imagined,” Kratsios enthused. “In just a month of it being out, we’ve had over 30,000 people show interest and apply online. These are tremendous numbers, and it just shows how patriotic Americans are.”

Beyond Sports: How Venues Are Becoming Cultural Hubs

BY WAYNE CAVADI Stadiums and arenas have become so much more than theaters for thrilling sporting events. They are second homes to some fans, changing the concept of the sport venue dramatically within the past five years. Nick Sizer, head of mixed-use sales and strategy, Klutch Sports Group, moderated the “More Than a Game: Sports Venues as Culture Hubs” panel with Orlando Baeza, VP, brand and creative, Chime; Lindsey Dudzinski, VP business development and strategy, Milwaukee Bucks; Sarah Meron, chief communications and brand officer, IBM; and Brian Rappaport, CEO, Quan Media Group, that dove into trends that are changing the sports venue landscape.

As Meron said right from the start, clients are human beings, and human beings have passion points.

Many times, those passion points involve sports. One way to engage those fans, said Rappaport, is to meet people where they are heading before they get there.

He pointed to Madison Square Garden, whose digital-out-of-home strategy has always been years ahead of everyone else. Newer stadiums, like SoFi Stadium and other Los Angeles venues, have taken the lead with digital billboards showing up ahead of the stadium on people’s journeys, taking advantage of cultural key moments.

“The venue isn’t enough anymore,” Dudzinski agreed. She told of the LED stair signage the Bucks brought to Fiserv Forum. The Bucks are the first to install StairMedia technology in the U.S., transforming stairways into animated vertical billboards and bringing a 40% revenue lift to its partners.

Meron mentioned how IBM uses data visualization to bring experiences from inside the arena to your couch. IBM plans to enable users to pilot their way through the fan experience. This is where AI comes into play, allowing IBM to do things that were never before possible and do it at scale.

Contextual advertising, said Baeza, is a way to unlock the value outside the venue, where he feels more of the value lies. Fan engagement is one way to harness that. He pointed to a Cooper Flagg and Dallas Mavericks campaign that Chime developed. Flagg, a multimillionaire rising star, has money, but being so young, has no credit. Flagg shows the everyday fan

that he is in it with them, which leads to activations of Chime’s financial services. Chime also has a lounge inside American Airlines Arena, and the only way in is with a Chime account, leading to increased engagement, but, more importantly, activations.

As Rappaport said, the key to keeping fans engaged and revenue flowing “is less about extracting value but creating it.” Fans still want to be connected; they want to be in the stadium, but it has become an expensive venture. Technology unleashes the ability to connect from outside the venue and even from the comfort of home, while creating future fandom and opportunities.

Lenovo’s Tech World Shares Vision of Smarter AI for All

by Sphere Studios, marking the second year that the cutting-edge venue was used to host a CES keynote.

Tech World showcases Lenovo’s portfolio of AI solutions and included a veritable “Who’s Who” of guests from the tech world, including Jensen Huang, founder & CEO, NVIDIA; Angelina Gomez, Motorola’s head of software product marketing; Lip-Bu Tan, Intel’s CEO; Yusuf Mehdi, Microsoft’s EVP, consumer chief marketing officer; Cristiano Amon, Qualcomm’s president & CEO; Dr. Lisa Su, AMD’s Chair & CEO; Jennifer Koester, Sphere’s president and COO; and Gianni Infantino, president of FIFA. Lenovo chairman and CEO Yuanqing Yang was center stage for most of the evening, and while many new products were announced, the big reveal was Lenovo’s new personal AI platform called “Qira,” which looks to deliver a unified experience across multiple devices and platforms in real time.

The two-hour event was filled with discussions of how computing technology has changed and evolved, and how AI will continue to develop and grow. AI is a force of innovation driving the technology that connects us. Yang said, “AI is no longer just generating answers; it is evolving and getting new capabilities and is everywhere” and that AI has opportunity to elevate and maximize human potential.

Yang stated that AI models are never a one-sizefits-all proposition, and personal AI needs to be built around individuals. One challenge is aggregating and searching all the photos, files, and memories people have scattered across multiple devices and platforms, which is one thing Qira is designed to bridge. The company predicts that AI will make up 80% of the PC market within three years, and that Qira will run on 1 billion devices.

Lenovo and Qualcomm see wearables as a category that represents billions of potential devices, and that will merge the digital and physical world. Qualcomm’s Amon predicts the tech industry will merge with the fashion industry, resulting in huge growth opportunities in categories like smart glasses, necklaces, pendants, etc.

On the hardware front, Intel’s Tan came out to help launch the next-generation of Lenovo’s Aura Edition PCs imagined with Intel Core Ultra processors that will all soon be embedded with Qira, which they called a great milestone in their three-decade long journey together. Motorola will launch the new RAZR Fold Phone, which will feature a best-in-class camera and also be enhanced with Qira features.

FIFA’s President Infantino claimed that six billion

people around the world will tune in to watch World Cup at home, and Football AI, powered by Lenovo, will provide new experiences for fans giving them more access to knowledge, data and analytics. Additionally, a next-gen of referee view will deliver a better on-pitch experience, and AI enabled 3D renders of player avatars

will create “digital twins” to allow better player tracking. Infantino assured that this is innovation “that benefits every player, every team, and every fan.”

The evening concluded with a one-hour concert featuring Gwen Stefani that showcased Sphere’s incredible audio and video capabilities.

Tech Trends 2026: Preparing for the AI Future

BY GRANT MORGAN At CES, it’s easy to get swept up in the spectacle of 4,000-plus exhibitors, halls packed with demos, and every booth touting the next breakthrough. Deloitte opened the CES 2026 research track with a reminder that feels especially relevant this year: Technology is moving fast, but progress still hinges on understanding where it genuinely creates value.

The “Tech Trends 2026: The Future is Calling” session, presented by Deloitte on Tuesday morning, included a panel moderated by Bill Briggs, CTO of Deloitte, who opened with a rundown of the top five tech trends of 2026. The panel included Paula Goldman, chief ethical and humane use officer, Salesforce; Ming Hua, vice president, wearables devices, Meta; and Courtney Naudo, SVP planning and integration, Walmart.

According to the 17th edition of Deloitte’s latest Tech Trend report, AI unsurprisingly anchors almost every conversation. But instead of treating AI as a single monolithic force, the report breaks it into five themes that help explain what’s coming, and what organizations should be doing now.

The first shift is AI taking physical form. AI is starting to sense, simulate, and eventually act in real environments. Much of the near-term payoff won’t be flashy humanoids; it will show up quietly in logistics, factories, and safety systems. Making that real requires investment in training data, guardrails, and reliability, not just cool prototypes.

The second identified trend points to Agentic AI, the systems that pursue outcomes more autonomously. These tools only work if the foundations are ready.

Legacy systems, messy data, and unresolved technical debt can stall innovation faster than any hardware constraint. And while companies continue to invest heavily in AI tools, far fewer are investing in people, training, and trust, the areas that ultimately determine adoption.

AI infrastructure is also moving from back-office budgeting to boardroom strategy. The third trend focused on how choices around cloud, edge, specialized chips, and even early quantum tools now shape competitiveness. Rather than replacing older architectures, these layers are stacking, expanding what organizations can do, but also increasing complexity.

Deloitte’s fourth trend was titled “the great rebuild.” This resulting organizational shift shows IT teams are no longer just cost centers; 65% of enterprises now expect them to help generate revenue. That convergence of IT, product, and operations is exciting, but it demands new skills, new partnerships, and new models of collaboration.

And then there’s the final trend, which Deloitte called the “AI dilemma.” The same technology that is strengthening cybersecurity defenses is also creating new attack surfaces, particularly as AI moves closer to critical infrastructure. The takeaway isn’t alarmism, it’s discipline. Ethics, resilience, and privacy must be engineered in from the start.

Innovation isn’t about adding more tech for tech’s sake. It’s about building responsibly, embedding trust, and making sure humans stay at the helm, even as the systems around them get smarter.

Hello Space Launches Mag Drive for E-bikes J-STARTUP/JAPAN PAVILION At CES2026 Japan-based startup Hello Space is launching Mag Drive, a patented semi-superconducting regenerative drive system that charges a battery by pedaling without magnetic resistance.

Mag Drive is composed of a generator, power charging board application, gear box, pedals, crank shaft, sensors, and batteries. At normal pedaling speed, the power output range is 100–250 watts. Easily attachable to the mid-hub of bikes and connected with any in-wheel drive motors, it is equipped with two batteries that have separate circuits for powering the drive motor and charging from the generator.

When the remaining charge in one battery drops to a specified level, the charging and discharging circuits switch over. When the battery is fully charged, the charging and discharging circuits switch over again.

The Mag Drive significantly reduces the frequency of external charging for E-bike.

Hello Space has been developing the Mag Drive with Toyota Tsusho Nexty Electronics Group since 2021, and the concept was announced at CES2022.

Teaming with XERO (Anantshree Vehicle Pvt. Ltd), an Indian EV manufacturer, Hello Space has made a MoU to co-develop a Smart E-bike with pedal-charging system. Hello Space supplies Mag Drive to XERO and XERO makes and supplies Smart E-bikes for B2B and bike sharing services across the world. From Policy to Patient Impact

BY GRANT MORGAN A key topic during Tuesday’s “Innovating Health: Policy for a Tech-Driven Future” panel discussion was how AI that is partnered with smart policy can accelerate breakthroughs in digital health.

Catherine Pugh, Director, Digital Health, Consumer Technology Association, moderated the panel, with Mark Atalla, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Technology Policy, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS); Amy Gleason, Acting Administrator of U.S. DOGE Service and Strategic Advisor to CMS, CMS/DOGE; and Dr. Michelle ­Tarver, Director, Center for Devices and Radiological Health, Food and Drug Administration (FDA) lending their expert insights into the progress being made at a national level to improve health tracking and transparency for patients and providers alike.

The conversation at CES 2026 around artificial intelligence in healthcare felt less like hype and more like a roadmap than in past years, and the leaders from HHS showed up with a clear message: AI isn’t just another tech wave; it’s becoming infrastructure for how care will be delivered, paid for, and trusted.

“We have an opportunity, if we do it right, to truly improve healthcare outcomes,” said Tarver. “But if we do it wrong, we can really hurt a lot of people. We want to be responsible agents of that technology.”

The panelists discussed the efforts to coordinate AI policy across agencies instead of allowing fragmented rules to slow adoption. The new Request for Information on AI is intended to draw the indus-

try into the process early, focusing on three practical questions: What regulations need to evolve, how should AI-enabled care be reimbursed, and how do we accelerate research into real-world deployment?

The emphasis from the panelists wasn’t on creating more oversight bodies; rather, it was on the need for getting technology into use faster yet responsibly.

“We’re getting to the point where these tools are like Apple Pay, Uber, and other things you use every day,” said Gleason. “I think all these [technologies] are taking over consumers, and we’re finally having things that aren’t the fax machine in healthcare, which helps consumers get engaged.”

According to Gleason, the HealthTech Ecosystem is slated to launch by March 31, 2026, and includes identity verification inside Medicare, a national provider directory, and CMS-aligned networks designed so patients can pull records across systems into a single app of their choice. Layer conversational AI on top, and suddenly things like treatment tracking, plan selection, and symptom history start to feel manageable.

Tarver added another layer, acknowledging that generative AI represents a different regulatory challenge. Instead of static tools, these systems evolve, meaning oversight can’t end at approval. Updated guidance now leans on lifecycle monitoring and clearer guardrails around what qualifies as wellness tech versus medical devices requiring review. The goal, she said, is to foster innovation without eroding trust.

ly important we find the right places to use a technology and use it in a way that really does link to a good return on investment for the American public,” said Tarver. “They’re vested in it, and they’re counting on us to make wise investments. We’re trying to be responsible and be good stewards of these resources.”

“We see adoption of technology as partnering with providers, thinking about payers and where they’re at, and having that broader conversation,” added Atalla.

“But it requires everyone coming along, and also people realizing that this is the path forward.”

What stood out across the session wasn’t a list of futuristic promises. It was a recognition that AI’s biggest barriers in healthcare are cultural and structural, not technical. Data needs to move, providers need clarity, and patients need agency without homework assignments.

If HHS can hold that line, enabling innovation while keeping humans firmly in the loop, AI may finally shift to something far more meaningful: better outcomes that people can feel in their daily lives.

Klipsch and Onkyo Celebrate 80 Years, Look to the Future

Vinny Bonacorsi, Klipsch’s chief operating officer, said, “CES gives us a rare opportunity to share where we’re headed before the curtain goes up, and to do it in a way that is intimate, experimental, and true to the enthusiasts who’ve always pushed us forward.”

Supercharged Creativity in an AI-Driven World

BY WAYNE CAVADI Yannick Bolloré, Havas CEO and Vivendi chairman, took the stage for the C Space keynote on Tuesday from the Aria. Moderated by Jim Stengel, president/ CEO of The Jim Stengel Company, Bolloré shared his thoughts on an AI-driven future, a future where human ingenuity and technology unlock endless possibilities for both C-Suite and creatives alike.

Bolloré began with a reflection on how much has changed in his 10 years of coming to CES. Ten years ago, he said, it was about curved TVs and now he saw robots playing ping pong and even took a selfie with another robot. That’s why Havas came to CES ready to double down on innovation.

Havas, a global communications company, is at the forefront of using AI to enhance its clients’ brand and messaging. His first experience with AI was 15-plus years ago, when he and his wife were looking at the same website and got different ads. It was a eureka moment of sorts, and Bolloré thought the time was right to launch programmatic buying.

Like everyone else, Bolloré first used AI as an assistant, summarizing emails and translating documents.

“But a few weeks later, I understood how it worked,” he said. “I learned how to prompt correctly. AI became a thought partner. When you’re the CEO of a company, sometimes you’re alone and you don’t really know how to articulate your thinking to develop a clear vision for the future. Using AI as a thought partner has changed my life.”

AI is seen as both a threat and an opportunity, but Bolloré chooses to see it as the latter. However, while he admits the threat of taking jobs and hallucinations is ever present, Havas is training its employees, all 23,000 of them, to be experts in AI, to understand comprehensive prompts to use the tool to its ultimate function.

BY STEWART WOLPIN CTA Executive Chair & CEO, Gary Shapiro, and CTA President, Kinsey Fabrizio, focused on how AI is to the 21st century as electricity was to the 20th during their CES 2026 kickoff keynote.

“If electricity is the last century, AI will illuminate the next,” Shapiro insisted. “AI is transforming every industry, every home, every life. Fire, the wheel, the internet, every leap forward has reshaped humanity.

AI is what’s defining the next generation.”

But both Shapiro and Fabrizio also used their CES platform to excoriate trade restrictions, especially tariffs, as impeding AI and other innovation development, to enthusiastic audience applause.

“We’re living in a time of extraordinary opportunity, and of course, there is growing risk,” Shapiro remarked. “We know that. And around the world, policies are either accelerating innovation or they’re slowing it down. I’ll be the bad guy. Here’s what’s not working—trade restrictions and shifting tariffs.

“There are [government] rules that limit rights or restrict the tools that people rely on,” Shapiro continued, “policies that are shaped by fear instead of facts,

and mandates on design instead of performance. All of this creates confusion and uncertainty, and stifles innovation. And that’s why we don’t just sit around and say, ‘This hurts.’”

Shapiro was seconded by Fabrizio, who cited counties adopting “more consistent national frameworks that protect consumers while still keeping innovation open, competitive, and human centered. We’re also seeing innovators and content creators collaborating,

not litigating, to promote creativity, protect rights, and unlock new opportunities that balance fair use.”

Shapiro cited CTA’s Global Innovation Scorecard, initiated at last year’s CES. The Scorecard measures the political, economic, and demographic factors that foster innovation, and to award those aiding this effort.

Shapiro attributed the Scorecard’s initial success stories to minimal and common sense national regulatory hurdles. “In many cases, the market is doing exactly what it is supposed to do. New technologies are emerging that supercharge free expression and creativity. It gives creators more control and expands what’s possible, and often it’s faster than government or regulation ever could.

“The best role for government is to set clear big goals and to set clear guardrails that minimize uncertainty in litigation,” Shapiro insisted, “and let innovators and consumers figure out the rest.”

“This moment will define who leads the future and whose values guide our technologies,” Fabrizio added.

“We need collaboration, not silos, among companies, researchers, and policymakers.”

Fostering Meaningful Human Connection in Retail

BY WAYNE CAVADI Brick-and-mortar retail has been declared dead more times than one can count on both hands. However, six years removed from a global pandemic, retail stores are still thriving, albeit, in a very different way.

Michael Kassan, founder and CEO, 3C Ventures, and Corie Barry, CEO, Best Buy, took the stage for the first C Space Storytellers panel of CES, “Seamless Ecosystems, Personalized Experiences: The Next Era of Retail,” to discuss retail now and beyond.

While artificial intelligence has been and will be at the forefront of all technology, both Barry and Kassan agreed that the evolution of retail goes far beyond digital transformation. As Barry said, in 2026, we find ourselves on the precipice of a merger of technology and human interaction.

COVID, Barry said, could have been the end of brick-and-mortar locales, but people decided to go back to the physical. She stated that 45% of online orders are still picked up in the store, and stores can ship directly to the consumer to simplify shopping. Shopping itself hasn’t changed, but the process has; and the future of all retail is an experiential one.

Human interaction and connection were overarching themes throughout the panel. While AI can an-

swer a question in mere seconds, it is still humans— easily spotted in Best Buy by their blue shirts or Geek Squad polos—that provide a seamless and smarter experience. The retail journey, especially in consumer technology, can be a difficult one, and no matter what AI calculates, human connection can boost consumer confidence in a brand.

“Consumers are looking for value, but they are really looking for confidence,” Barry said. She referred to the current economy, a time when all purchases are important purchases. “We play a big role in helping people make big decisions.”

That seamless consumer journey includes physical discovery, digital intent, and post-purchase engagement. In today’s world, retail stores have an endless amount of data on consumer behavior at their fingertips. But, according to Barry, you have to understand your consumer beyond the data.

That is where retailers need to humanize technology in an AI-first world. Look at the Best Buy blue shirts, “the physical manifestation of our brand,” as Barry said. What AI can’t give a gamer or content creator is the technical specifications for exactly what they need. Best Buy experts know how to take what they know and find the best solution for the consum-

er. Both Barry and Kassan reiterated that AI can get you to a certain set of answers, but you need the human to understand your specific needs. “AI at its most human is a partnership with a person,” Barry said. “A tool that helps.”

Before closing, Barry answered questions about retail media networks’ role in retail’s future. She pointed out that commerce media is no longer a luxury, but essential. It can be a true differentiated asset.
