Welcome to the second annual amfAR Palm Beach gala.
We are profoundly grateful to Michele and Howard Kessler for graciously hosting tonight’s gala. Michele and Howard have gone out of their way to ensure that this will be a memorable evening.
All proceeds from the gala support amfAR’s efforts to develop a cure for HIV, a disease that takes a life every minute and to date has claimed more than 40 million lives. amfAR’s presence in Florida shines a light on the high rates of HIV in the state, which is home to nearly 130,000 people living with the virus, including more than 8,000 in Palm Beach County.
amfAR has consistently contributed to the fight against AIDS in Florida, awarding $6 million to 100 grants over the past 35 years. Most recently, Dr. Sebastian Fuchs at the University of Miami received a research fellowship to support his work on antibodies, which may improve our ability to treat HIV and a wide range of other diseases.
Finally, our deep appreciation goes to you for joining us this evening in support of amfAR. Your generosity helps bring us closer to curing HIV and, ultimately, ending the global HIV/AIDS epidemic.
With gratitude,

PIPERHEIDSIECK CUVÉE BRUT PIPERHEIDSIECK BRUT
Piper-Heidsieck Cuvée Brut is an emblematic multi-vintage champagne, crafted from a blend of more than 100 crus sourced from three grape varieties of Champagne—Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Pinot Meunier. Piper-Heidsieck Cuvée Brut boasts a fresh, elegant and harmonious profile.
Its nose offers delicate notes of pear, white peach, citrus, and orange blossom, and the palate also reveals aromas of toasted bread, fresh almonds, and mint. The Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier enhance the Pinot Noir, offering the welcome freshness and crispness to the blend of this iconic cuvée. A stylish champagne, perfect for any celebration.
BOROLI BAROLO DOCG 2017 BOROLI DOCG 2017
Achille Boroli’s 2017 Barolo is ripe and offers richness to its cherry, currant, juniper and wild thyme flavors. The tannins are very well integrated, while this stays fresh, with notes of earth and tobacco on the lingering aftertaste.
BOROLI LANGHE CHARDONNAY DOC BEL AMÌ 2021
BOROLI LANGHE CHARDONNAY DOC BEL 2021
The 2021 Langhe Chardonnay Bel Amì is redolent of soft pear and Golden Delicious apple. There is some chalky mineral too, spread throughout the wine’s almost creamy, mid-weight texture. There is a sweet or fruity side to the mouthfeel. Great drinkability!
RUMOR CÔTES DE PROVENCE ROSÉ RUMOR DE PROVENCE
This vintage is elegant and light—with a nose of white flowers and citrus. After aeration, the notes evolve to peach and pomelo. The palate is clean and unfolds elegantly to a smooth finish, leaving citrus notes.

The winner of this lot will have the unique opportunity to commission a custom painting of their house (or location of their choosing) by artist Deborah Brown.
Though Deborah Brown lives and works in Brooklyn, New York, her recent paintings draw on memories of Pasadena and the Huntington Gardens and Museum in San Marino, appropriating the lush Southern California landscape and architecture as a stage set for the action in the paintings. An unidentified protagonist and her canine companion survey the scene, represented as shadows. Are they neighbors or lurkers, friends or stalkers? The anonymity of the figure is unsettling. Gliding across the surface of the canvas, the figures recall the flâneur, a literary type from 19th century France, traditionally depicted as a male figure of urban leisure and modernity who wanders without purpose, a detached observer of contemporary life. The paintings pose the question of what such a figure, reinterpreted as a flâneuse, means today.
Through the formal construction of the paintings, the artist conveys her fascination with a particular place while channeling our collective wonder at the visual pleasures of the world. The paintings are structured around intense blocks of color, which conjure corresponding feelings in the viewer. Patches of light and calligraphic brushwork crisscross the surface of the canvases, revealing details that provide clues about the subject. Repetition of the elements in the paintings—slightly different in each work— creates a specific mood, one that invites the viewer to construct a narrative about the scene depicted.
Brown received a BA summa cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa, from Yale University and an MFA from Indiana University. Recent exhibitions include: Bonhams Hong Kong, China (2023); Althuis Hofland, Amsterdam, the Netherlands (2023); adhesivo contemporary, Mexico City, Mexico (2023); Asia Art Center, Bejing, China (2023); among others. Brown has been a tenured professor at Carleton College and a visiting artist and lecturer at numerous institutions. Her work is included in museum and private collections around the world, such as the ICA, Miami, and the Portland Museum of Art, Portland, Maine, by donation from the Alex Katz Foundation.

Born in New York City and currently based in L.A., abstract painter Gwen O’Neil earned her BFA from the Savannah College of Art and Design in 2015. Her work has been shown in New York, Miami, Los Angeles, Dallas, Seoul, and Milan.
With layers of stippled brushstrokes in spiraling waves of color, her palette is reminiscent of the Fauvists and Post-Impressionists. Her compositions can be read as cosmic diagrams, ethereal particles coalescing in atmospheric gradients, but their origins are far more earthly and humble—the winding roads that weave through the hills and canyons of L.A., the murmurations of starlings along the shores of East Hampton, New York, and the dramatic seaside cliffs in Cornwall. There are patterns hidden in these forms, algorithms programmed into the natural world.
Despite their cascading waves and whirlpools of color, O’Neil’s work induces a feeling of serenity. Her work is a visual oasis, a respite from the digital overload of modern life, and a manifestation of nature’s underlying design.
O’Neil’s practice continues in the tradition of Krasner, Frankenthaler, and Elaine de Kooning, all of whom found creative freedom in the warm watered light and sea air of Eastern Long Island. Recently, O’Neil returned to her family’s home on Long Island, not far from the Pollock-Krasner House, to create a new body of work for Untitled Art Miami 2022, presented by Anna Erikson and comprised of three new series of work— Field Paintings, Open Paintings, and Spiral Paintings. About her choice of subject, she adds: “My concern for the environment has intensified my interest in nature.”

Born in Milan, Paola Pivi is a contemporary artist best known for her playful and thought-provoking installations and sculptures. Commingling the familiar with the alien, Pivi often works with commonly identifiable objects that are modified to introduce a new scale, material or color, challenging the audience to change their point of view. Animals are often cast as protagonists in Pivi’s world—she draws upon their perceived characteristics and instills them with human mannerisms. In her art, polar bears sprouting multicolored feathers practice yoga, hang from trapezes, and engage with one another, ranging from life-sized to miniaturized. With a bold and distinctive style, Pivi is considered one of the most impactful artists of her generation.
Pivi has had a successful international career, exhibiting her work in museums and galleries around the world. Her numerous solo exhibitions include You Know Who I Am, The High Line (2022–2023), and Free Land Scape, Perrotin (2022), both in New York, New York; Paola Pivi: I Want It All, The Andy Warhol Museum, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania (2022); We are the Alaskan Tourists, Arken Museum of Modern Art, Ishøj, Denmark (2020); and Art with a view, The Bass Museum of Art, Miami Beach, Florida (2018).
