INSTRUCTIONS: GRADES 1-3

What Is this Project?

The Culture/Travel Guide Project is a fun way to learn about the world!

You will pretend to be a travel guide for a place you choose. On presentation day, you will stand like a museum exhibit and teach visitors about your country, culture, or special place.

Project Goal

By the end of this project, you will:

• Learn about a place in the world

• Practice reading, writing, and speaking

• Share facts in a fun and creative way

• Teach others about different cultures

What Will I Study?

You will choose ONE:

• A country (e.g., Mexico, Japan, Kenya)

• A culture (e.g., Native American, Hawaiian)

• A special place (e.g., Paris, the Amazon Rainforest)

You will learn about:

• Where it is on the map

• What people wear

• What food they eat

• Fun facts

• Important places or landmarks

CULTURE/TRAVEL GUIDE PROJECT

INSTRUCTIONS: GRADES 1-3

3 WEEK PROJECT PLAN

WEEK 1 - Learn & Explore

• Choose your country or place

• Look at books, videos, or teacher resources

• Answer simple questions:

• Where is it?

• What do people eat?

• What is something special about it?

• Draw pictures or take notes with words and drawings

WEEK 2 - Create & Practice

• Make your presentation board

• Write a short travel guide speech (3–5 sentences)

• Practice speaking clearly and loudly

• Choose:

• A costume, OR

• A prop (flag, hat, food picture, map)

WEEK 3 - Present & Shine

• Prepare travel agent costume and props

• Smile and greet visitors

• Share your facts when visitors stop

• Answer simple questions like:

• “What food do people eat?”

• “Where is it on the map?

PRESENTATION BOARD REQUIREMENTS

Your board should include:

• Title (Name of place)

• Map or picture of where it is

• 3–5 facts (words and/or pictures)

• One or more pictures of:

• Food

• Clothing

• Landmark

PRESENTATION TIPS

• Speak loudly and clearly

• Look at your audience

• Smile and have fun!

• Practice at home with a grown-up

You Are Ready!

MEXICO

Mexico is a country next to the United States.

It has beautiful beaches, big cities, and ancient pyramids.

People can visit places like Cancun to swim in the ocean or see the pyramids in Chichén Itzá.

In Mexico, people enjoy eating yummy foods like tacos and tamales.

You can also listen to fun music, watch people dance, and see colorful clothes and art.

There are many fun things to do and exciting places to explore.
