Dear BlackHorse Members,
May is here, and what a tremendous start to the year it has been at BlackHorse. With the bunker project now complete, we are beginning to see the results take shape in a big way This month marks the first opportunity to enjoy all of the newly renovated bunkers in full play, which is certainly exciting for everyone Early feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, and we hope you ’ ve already had the chance to get out and experience the improvements firsthand
We also made the decision to move the Member-Member Tournament to May this year, knowing the bunkers would be ready. We are looking forward to one of our premier events of the year and an outstanding weekend of competition, camaraderie, and great memories. Leading up to Member-Member, we will also celebrate the South Course Grand Re-Opening. It will be a special few days filled with fun, celebration, and great golf as we officially showcase the completed improvements and welcome everyone back to the South Course in style.
The search for our next Director of Agronomy is in a very good place We are being thorough and intentional in the process, and we remain committed to finding the right leader - someone who is eager to come in and elevate our team, our property, and the overall golf experience at BlackHorse In the meantime, our agronomy team has stepped up in a tremendous way The men and women on that team continue to work hard each day, and we are proud of their efforts, their resilience, and the positive direction they are taking the department
We also hope you will join us at the Club to celebrate Mother’s Day with our annual brunch. It is always a special occasion and a wonderful opportunity to enjoy great food, family, and time together while celebrating the moms and mother figures who mean so much to us. We look forward to hosting you for a memorable day.

As we turn the page from April into what is shaping up to be an exciting May, there’s plenty happening around the Club and even more to look forward to.
First, we want to congratulate our winners of our Masters Pool Tournament:

I hope everyone who particated had as much as fun as I did and a great way to kick off the spring tournament season
We’re also excited to announce that MGA play is now underway, taking place every other Wednesday, with Skins games once a month. This rotation gives everyone more opportunities to get involved, compete, and enjoy the camaraderie that makes our Club special.
Looking ahead, May is going to be a big month for BlackHorse
After completing a major bunker renovation project, we ’ re proud to officially celebrate the reopening of our private course with a Grand Opening Event May 13th–15th We’ll have contests, prizes, drink, food and plenty of chances to experience the course, with also some Member’s Guest special pricing The improvements have made a noticeable difference, and we ’ re excited for all of you to see (and play) it
Immediately following that, we roll right into one of our premier events of the year our Member-Member Tournament on May 16th & 17th. Be sure to get signed up and ready for a great weekend of friends & golf. If you don’t have a partner, let me know and we’ll find someone to get you paired up with

This is the month we have all waited for! An opportunity to play out of all the bunkers and sod on the golf course. Before we get there, we want to thank you for your patience during the project and the time we have spent on the cart path, giving the course the best chance for success this spring. It has no doubt made a difference that we can all appreciate from a playability standpoint The bunkers have turned out incredible and even with all the rain, the faces hold up incredibly well, drastically – we mean very drastically – reducing the needed maintenance after rain events
April was rainy and hopefully May will be a little less disruptive We always like Mother Nature’s help with irrigating the golf course, but weekday evenings would help us all a big more on the timing The abundance of rain has given us the runway for a great May We will continue to pump the fairways, tees and cart path side roughs with extra love – aka, fertilizer! The weeds are checking out as we attack them chemically and we will continue to do even more with spot sprayers. We are catching up on some detail work to pair both the best possible aesthetics and playability.
As Craig announced at the end of April, we are in a transition phase with our Director of Agronomy position. Nick and Sam have stepped up to the plate to keep delivering and keep us moving forward during the search process. Interviews are already underway with qualified candidates and we anticipate this being a swift, but more importantly, fruitful process The Club and specifically the golf course has a lot of positive momentum and no part of us plans to let up We will make it a great May with the help of our amazing team
This month, one of our primary focuses will be the build up to the Member-Member and the days leading up to it with the Grand Re-Opening of the South Course The team has some exciting plans for those days and our maintenance team will do our part to showcase the course in the best way possible for you and your guests.

It feels like Spring was just here and now we are starting to creep up on Summer. Time sure does fly when you are having fun. Which means we are going to continue to fly through time, because we have nothing but fun filled golf scheduled to come your way!
As always, I want to thank everyone who has participated in our previous month’s events. Whether you made it out for a Skins Game, MGA, Night, Member Tournament, or a mixture of all of these, we are always excited to see our membership out on the golf course. If you couldn’t participate in any of these events in April, don’t worry, they will all continue into May as well.
Also, we will be kicking off a few other events this Month as well. As many of you have heard we will be officially starting our Triple Crown Match Play this month. Our draw date will be May 6 , and the first round of official matches can begin the very next day. This is sure to be a highlight of the Summer, and we are all anxiously waiting to see who will be crowned the inaugural Triple Crown Champion. th
We are also excited to be bringing back our most successful event from last year, later this month, BlackHorse Family Cup. This weekly event is all about fun and getting the entire family on the course to enjoy this great game. It doesn’t matter if your family is full of beginners or seasoned veterans, Family Cup provides a fun atmosphere where golfers of all skill levels can enjoy this great game. Please keep an eye out for more information regarding the official kickoff for our Family Cup.
Finally, I want to highlight our Member Tournament for the month of May. While this event did get pushed from its usual date, we are very excited to be hosting our annual Member-Member. This is sure to be a great event and will showcase the Member Course in full playability! This event will be a two-person best ball where each player will receive 80% of their handicap. This tournament will be contested over two days and will crown deserving champions throughout our various flights. If you do not have a partner, we recommend that you sign up for this event. Our staff will help you get paired with a partner and ensure you don’t miss out on this fantastic tournament. If you do have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to our Professional Staff.

We have a lot in store for May and we ’ re kicking things off on the retail side with our PING Fitting Day on May 7 This is a great opportunity to get dialed in with the latest equipment and work one-on-one with fitting specialists to make sure your game is in the best possible shape heading into the season Spots tend to fill quickly, so be sure to get on the schedule if you ’ ve been thinking about an upgrade
Right behind that, we are thrilled to celebrate the South Course Grand Reopening, May 13–15 Our team has put a ton of time and energy into this project, and we ’ re excited to showcase it with a full week of fun Expect great food and beverage specials, games, and a lively atmosphere - plus a perfect opportunity to invite guests out and show off your Club
And one of my personal favorites - Couples Golf on May 22! We’ve had incredible momentum with so many new golfing couples around the club, and this is the perfect way to jump in The afternoon will start with a fun 9-hole scramble, followed by bingo in Roper’s Grill to keep the energy going Chef will be featuring some great specials including flatbreads, peach bellinis, and Peroni beers, making it just as much about the experience as it is the golf

Members of the BlackHorse Ladies Golf Association, Golf Club of Houston and Black Hawk Country Club recently formed Team Escalante to participate in the Southwest Interclub league. During the April interclub event, BHLGA members Joy Santos (18.6), EJ Park (27) and Katherine Biggs (20.7) won first low net in their respective flights and Team Escalante moved into first place in the league standings.
