The Culture/Travel Guide Project is an interactive research and presentation experience. Students become “living exhibits” by researching a country, culture, or significant location and presenting their findings as a travel guide or cultural ambassador.
During the event, students will stand at assigned stations and present live, short speeches to rotating visitors (students, staff, and families), answering questions and sharing insights about their chosen location.
This project combines research, writing, creativity, and public speaking while building global awareness.
Project Goal
Students will:
• Conduct focused research using multiple sources
• Organize information into clear, engaging presentations
• Develop public speaking and audience engagement skills
• Demonstrate cultural understanding and respect
• Apply creativity through visuals, props, and optional costumes

CULTURE/TRAVEL GUIDE PROJECT
INSTRUCTIONS: GRADES 4-12
TOPIC SELECTION
Choose ONE of the following:
• A country (e.g., Brazil, Egypt, South Korea)
• A culture or cultural group (e.g., Maasai, Inuit, Navajo Nation)
• A city or significant location (e.g., Rome, Great Wall of China, Machu Picchu)
Required Research Topics
• Your research should include:
• Geography: location, climate, land features
• History: major events or origins
• People & Language(s): population, spoken languages
• Landmarks or Attractions: famous places or sites
• Cultural Contributions: music, art, literature, inventions
• Fun or Unique Facts
PRESENTATION BOARD REQUIREMENTS
Your board should include:
• Clear title (name of country/ culture/location)
• Map showing location
• Organized sections with headings
• Images or illustrations
• Key facts in bullet points or short paragraphs
• Neat, readable text and thoughtful design
Optional:
• QR code to a video or music sample
• Interactive elements (flip cards, artifacts)
PRESENTATION TIPS
• Stand in character as a travel guide or cultural ambassador
• Speak clearly, confidently, and at an appropriate pace
• Maintain eye contact with visitors
• Use expressive tone and body language
• Answer questions respectfully and accurately
• Avoid stereotypes; present information thoughtfully

3 WEEK PROJECT PLAN
WEEK 1 - Research & Planning
• Select a Topic
• Gather information from books, databases, and trusted websites
• Take organized notes (no copying and pasting)
• Identify key facts you will teach visitors
• Begin planning visuals and props
WEEK 2 - Create & Rehearse
• Create your presentation board or display
• Write a 1–3 minute travel guide script
• Prepare:
• Visual aids (maps, photos, charts)
• Costume and prop
• Practice:
• Clear speaking
• Eye contact
• Smooth transitions
• Revise content for clarity and accuracy
WEEK 3 - Final Preparation & Presentation
• Finalize visuals and attire
• Practice presenting without reading directly from notes
• Prepare to answer visitor questions
• Present multiple times to different visitors

JAPAN
Welcome to Japan, an amazing island nation in East Asia!
Japan is known for its advanced technology, like high-speed bullet trains and robots, as well as its deep cultural traditions.
Visitors can explore famous landmarks such as Mount Fuji, Japan’s tallest mountain, and the beautiful ancient temples in Kyoto.
Japan is also famous for its delicious food, including sushi, ramen, and tempura.
A fun fact about Japan is that there are vending machines almost everywhere, selling snacks and drinks. Another fun fact is that people remove their shoes before entering homes and some buildings.
Respect and politeness are very important in Japanese culture, especially when greeting others and showing good manners.
With exciting sights, unique traditions, and amazing food, Japan is a fantastic place to visit. Thank you for traveling to Japan with me!
