The City of Milwaukee Health Department provides local individuals, families and communities with support and services designed to enhance their physical and mental well being. We do this by assessing public health needs, developing innovative public health policy and initiatives, and providing equitable and inclusive solutions for all residents.
Through active research and exploration into Milwaukee County neighborhoods, the MHD publishes relevant reports and tracks data trends to further our understanding of the ever developing needs of Milwaukee residents.
E.g. Community Health Assessments, Childhood Lead Poisoning Dashboard, and Disease Statistics
Based on our research findings, the MHD creates public policies that address the city’s most pressing needs while improving the future of our residents’ health. We partner with the best community institutions and organizations in the public, non-profit, and private sectors to deliver both long-term and immediate services solutions that are both innovative and effective.
E.g. Milwaukee's Blueprint for Violence, Communicable Disease Program, reputable sexual health clinics, and the Zilber Family Foundation partnership
The MHD recognizes that our initiatives cannot be a “one size fits all” effort. Instead, we choose to address health challenges that affect specific neighborhoods, races, and sex. The policies and practices that create patterns of unequal access need to be changed or eliminated for every member of the community to reach their full health potential.
