In the US, we wait for Santa Claus and Frosty the Snowman, and some people believe in stories of Jesus. We feast on turkey and trimmings on December 25th, exchange gifts by the tree, and sing Christmas carols. In Eastern Europe, a character named Ded Moroz ("Grandfather Frost") brings gifts to good children on his magical sleigh, entering through the front door and not via the chimney! Father Christmas delivers presents on Christmas Eve and there is a public holiday on Boxing Day (the day after Christmas Day). In China and Japan, Christmas Day is not officially recognized as a public holiday, although gradual Westernization is occurring, with festive lights being used to decorate homes, and gifts being exchanged by some families.
