As we approach September and the Fall season, I hope I speak for most of the community that we look forward to cooler weather and more opportunities to enjoy the beautiful common areas and amenities in Dobson Ranch. I hope to see many of you on my walks along the lakes in the coming months. This summer has brought changes to our Association and continues into September. Our partnership with City Property officially begins on September 1, and over the last few weeks, our staff and City Property staff have been hard at work gearing up for the transition. We anticipate the on-site Community Manager appointed by City Property will start on Monday, September 16. I hope that our community welcomes them with open arms. You may have already received or will soon receive additional communication via mail and email about how to access your homeowner portal through CityCync. This is an exciting opportunity to see what City Property can offer our community.

Community upkeep continues to be a concern in Dobson Ranch. It is a topic our administration staff and Board of Directors hear of continuously. As we look toward developing our 2025 budget, we will evaluate our staffing and resource needs to ensure that the Association is also doing its part to keep the community looking good for homeowners while protecting our property values.

We are in the midst of monsoon season and heading into Fall when weeds will begin to sprout again, and we will inevitably see more compliance issues. We all understand that outside chores and repairs can get away from us occasionally, with the busy lives of careers, raising families, and living life. However, we must all do our part to keep our

community looking great. The guidelines are set and enforced to ensure a desirable living environment for all residents. Curb appeal is pivotal in maintaining and enhancing the aesthetics of Dobson Ranch and the property values of our homes. Please call the office and let us know if a project is taking longer than expected or if extenuating circumstances require additional time. Good communication goes a long way in resolving some of these issues before you receive a fine.

While we head closer toward election time, we want to remind everyone of the Association’s policies regarding political signs and flags. You can find the policy on signs in section 2.10 of our Residential Architectural Guidelines on our website. Flags are treated differently than political signs and are governed under section 2.9 of the Residential Architectural Guidelines. Both of these issues and policies are reflective of Arizona law as outlined in ARS 33-1808.

Thank you for what you do to make this community as unique as it is. I genuinely love the community of Dobson Ranch and have enjoyed meeting so many neighbors over the past year. I encourage all homeowners to be engaged in the community by joining a club or a committee or attending a class, event, or meeting. It can be a very fulfilling way to enhance the quality of life. There are many opportunities to get involved and be part of a community that has thrived for the last 50 years.

CITY OF MESA

Mesa is BOOMING with opportunity!

Mesa is buzzing with new developments that are set to transform our community! If you’ve been out and about, you might have noticed some of the changes taking shape. Here’s a quick rundown of what’s happening in our district:

• Residences at Dobson & Cubs Way – This 416-unit multifamily residential development is rising at the corner of Dobson Rd and Cubs Way, right next to Riverview Park. With its urban architectural style, this project will bring more residents and energy to the Mesa Riverview area.

• Lotus Point - A new 4-story multifamily garden-style housing project that adds to our growing skyline, located on the corner of Dobson and Main.

• Ovio at Sycamore - This 6-story, 222-unit multifamily development, located on Dobson and Main, by the Sycamore station, will feature first-floor retail, adding even more vibrancy to the area.

• Fiesta Mall Redevelopment - In collaboration with the developers, we’re reimagining and redeveloping the iconic yet abandoned Fiesta Mall. Our goal is to create a vibrant mixed-use Master Plan that offers a blend of residential

options, office spaces, retail shops, restaurants, hotels, entertainment venues, and commercial developments. Walkable, sustainable, and filled with open spaces, Fiesta Redefined is set to become a 21st-century gem that will make us all proud. For more details, visit fiestaredefined.com

Mesa is a city on the move, with developments at every stage, from planning to construction. To stay updated on the latest projects coming to your neighborhood, check out our new Active Development Map, which offers detailed overviews, including locations, project sizes, and planned uses. CONSERVATION CORNER

RAIN CAN BE HIT OR MISS - ESPECIALLY DURING SUMMER MONSOONS

A little red-headed girl once sang “The sun will come out tomorrow. Bet your bottom dollar that tomorrow, there’ll be sun…” Since many areas in Arizona receive over 300 sunny days a year, the state certainly lives up to the sunshine in the song. But what about rainfall? Have you noticed it can be very localized, especially during the summer monsoon season? According to the National Weather Service, 6.04” of rain have fallen in Mesa so far in 2024. My home, in the west part of the city, has received 4.21” – almost 2 inches less!

How Does It Work

How do I know such an accurate rainfall total at my home? It’s because I participate in a citizen science project called Rainlog.org. Now, don’t let “science project” bring back dark memories of your 10th grade chemistry class. There is no studying involved and you won’t be graded. Citizen science

projects are simply collaborations between scientists and those who are concerned about the environment (or just curious) and want to make a difference.

Participants of Rainlog.org keep track of the amount of rainfall that occurs in their own yards in a 24-hour period. This amount (or “data” if you don’t mind getting technical) is entered into the website to help create a better picture of rainfall patterns across the Southwest. This is important because water managers, weather reporters, drought planners, and scientists monitor precipitation amounts to help with watershed management activities and drought planning. Rainlog.org is a collaborative effort, working with partners like Salt River Project, Arizona Department of Water Resources, and the University of Arizona.

How Can You Help

Participating in Rainlog.org is easy, and free. First, set up an account on Rainlog.org with your email and a personal login on either a computer or smart phone. Then, all you need is

a rain gauge. I use a simple one purchased at the local hardware store that is attached to my back fence. Each morning after it rains, simply check the rain gauge and enter the amount received into your account. All information is displayed on an interactive map and you’ll see how rainfall can differ from one area to another. Rainlog. org lets you easily download your amount (the data) and compare it by month, season, even year-over-year. Plus, you’ll get a statewide monthly report delivered straight to your inbox, keeping you up-to-date on rainfall patterns.

Rainlog.org is a great way to lend a helping hand to the environment, while contributing to scientific research. By submitting your rainfall totals, you are helping scientists better understand our changing weather. Their insights can lead to solutions to potential problems and to better decisions regarding the management of our natural resources. If that isn’t cool enough, keep in mind that kids of all ages can participate! My daughter loves checking the rain gauge after a storm – it’s a great way to get kids engaged in science and nature.

Join your fellow Arizonans and set up an account today on Rainlog.org. Who knows, maybe this monsoon season we’ll all be singing “Raindrops keep falling on my head…”

Kathrine Blomquist recently worked with the City of Mesa (one of 19 Water– Use It Wisely partners) assisting residential, HOA, and commercial customers with water-efficiency incentive programs. Kathrine is a Mesa resident and community volunteer, is compassionate about the environment, and enjoys helping others learn about and engage in conservation practices.

The City of Mesa Welcomes National League of Cities Centennial ‘Roadshow’

During the roadshow stop in Mesa, NLC members learned about Mesas public safety and economic development initiatives through visits to the Citys Real Time Crime Center and The Mesa Business Builder.

I am honored that Mesa participated in the NLC Centennial Roadshow, highlighting our Citys dedication to fostering economic growth and ensuring public safety, said Mesa Councilmember and NLC Board Member Mark Freeman. This event is a fantastic opportunity to showcase...
