Interior Design Student Work Brochure 2021

Welcome I am very pleased and excited to be writing an introduction for the final year interior design students end of year book, here at De Monfort University, Leicester.

This year’s large cohort has been an absolute pleasure to teach and it is has been fantastic seeing them develop into a strong group of talented, highly skilled and motivated individuals, who are ready for the next chapter of their design careers to employment or Masters level of study.

This year has been like no other with the impact of the pandemic, resulting in students who have become more resilient, resourceful and adaptive than

ever. We have of course missed out on a lively design studio which buzzes with energy due to blended learning, however our final year students have embraced this challenge and have produced work to a very high standard in all areas of design.

The Major Design Projects (selected by the students) this year have covered a variety of topics such as Climate change, Sustainability and Black Lives Matter as well as projects which are more light hearted in nature. These projects demonstrate the students range of skills and interests. The projects engage with a variety of buildings, some of which

are concerned with industrial heritage and others with modern buildings or located overseas. We find this approach encourages students to push the boundaries of design and creates well rounded designers ready for industry, regionally, nationally and globally.

It is a privilege to be part of the students learning experience at DMU and on behalf of the programme team we would like to congratulate them on their fantastic achievements and wish them all the best for a successful future.

Favourite university Project: My favourite project was Shades of Eternity, a two-week virtual reality project that supported four of the sustainable development goals. Designed with colour and enchantment.

Describe your MDP: Forgotten Tales Exhibition brings fairy-tale stories to life through interactive design. A celebration of LadyBird Books to encourage future readers by keeping the magic alive.

Describe your MDP: A community centre that provides accessible space for adults to be educated to improve their whole health through regular exercise, healthy diet and sufficient rest.

Favourite university project: ‘Fruity Paradise’ - Summer Pavilion. Creating a model for the summer pavilion bar showed me how I enjoyed practical work and became an imaginative and creative designer.

Describe your MDP: My MDP aimed to provide a 2nd home for the dogs during their owners’ absence by providing them with a safe and warm environment.

Describe your MDP: Coppafeel – An uplifting, celebratory, inclusive space that encourages visitors to understand symptoms of breast cancer. To support those in need and inspire all.

Favourite project: My favourite project was The Green Gym. It is the sustainable leisure design completed by me in just 2 weeks. It was designed in 2020.

Describe your MDP: My MDP project is a wedding venue Industria.

The project uses LED light projection chosen by a couple. It focuses on interaction with guests.

Favourite Memory: I have absolutely loved my university experience, there isn’t a particular memory that can capture how incredible my time has been. Overall, the friends I have made and the knowledge I have gained in interior design.

Describe your MDP: The project was to encapsulate current conditions taking it forward into a residential project with a collaborative working space for residents and surrounding village consumption.

Favourite university memory: Meeting friends for life at University Describe MDP: My project is a children respite for Manchester Children’s Hospital. The hospital environment is not a place meant for any child or parent and can be very stressful or upsetting. So the respite is meant to help children develop and becomes an escapism for both the patients to just be children and be free.

Favourite university project: The most unique and divergent project was the two-week project which was by far my favourite project. The out of the box element and the divergent project was really creative.

Describe your MDP: Re-earth is a sustainable departmentstore that brings consciously manufactured goods with a variety of facilities. It offers an experience to educate people about where and how their clothes are made and its life-cycle.

Favourite university project: My favourite project, which I created during my studies, was designing a terrace that moves and follows the sun.

Describe your MDP: My MDP was a project of a restaurant hall with a bakery called Mill & Meal in the old building of the Michalenki mill. This project was especially important to me as the building is located in my hometown Chelm, Poland.

Favourite university memory: Our 1st Year trip to Hamburg! We had the best time exploring the city, architecture, shops and museums, I made friends for life on this trip.

Describe your MDP: I have designed an Artist Retreat and community centre, restoring an abandoned seafront military fort. The outcome is a culmination of all my design passions.
