CenterCal’s Alamitos Bay waterfront development opens

he city of Long Beach hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the new 2nd and PCH center across the street from Alamitos Bay Marina. Local boaters will have access to 60 businesses, including restaurants and retail. P. 17

Ground broken on Orange Coast College’s new Mariner Training Center T

he school’s center, which is an extension of its Professional Mariner Program, will open in the fall of 2021. Students will be able to pursue a degree or certificate program in boating and maritime-related fields. The new building will be two-stories tall and measure 12,000 square feet in size. P. 15

Personal watercrafts benefit from boater-paid tax under federal bill Kayaks, standup paddleboards and other personal watercraft would stand to benefit from taxes collected under the Sport Fish Restoration and Recreational Boating Safety Act of 2019. Money collected by boaters under the bill would help create safety programs for boating and personal watercraft activities. P. 6

‘Tranquilo’ wins largest catch of Bisbee’s Black and Blue Tournament

Two Southern California yacht clubs recognized on Top 50 list

The 39 th annual Bisbee’s Black and Blue Tournament finished with a record amount of payouts. Bill Pino won the biggest prize – a 577-pound blue marlin, worth $1,411,375. Each day had a payout of at least $1.3 million. P. 34

Newport Harbor and San Diego yacht clubs both made the Top 50 Platinum Yacht Clubs for 2020-2021 list. The list recognizes yacht clubs from around the world and is compiled by the organization, Platinum Clubs of the World. P. 32
