MEMBERSHIP PROGRAM FINDS A NEW FAN IN KURT YOST – By Sarah Thornton Kurt Yost spent his entire 30-year career in the wine business, in Chicago and across Illinois. When he and wife Audrey decided to retire, they found the perfect new home at Vita Bella by Edward Homes, surrounded by everything they love: wine, golf, music and views of the sparkling lake. The Yosts found everything they were looking for in retirement at Lake Las Vegas. “We left Chicago to get away from that cold climate we’ve lived in all our lives,” he said. “I donated my shovels and now I look forward to waking up to the sunshine and greens every day. We wouldn’t have it any other way.” One of the first things Kurt did as a new resident was join Reflection Bay Golf Club’s membership program. As a member, he plays the awardwinning course nearly every morning. “Part of my retirement program was always going to be golf membership, so Reflection Bay was a huge draw for me when we were looking at where we wanted to live,” he said. “There is no initiation fee or monthly fee like other country clubs which often charge you whether you spend the money or not.” Reflection Bay’s annual membership fee is currently $6,500 and offers members no greens fees, no cart fees, unlimited use of the members-only practice facility, 20 percent off for guests and 20 percent off most items in the pro shop and Bayside Grill. Members also enjoy exclusive events throughout the year, including the most recent event featuring cuisine from Lake Las Vegas executive chef Scott Commings. Some member events have associated fees. “It’s awesome,” Kurt said. “Membership also affords me full use of the HPGI practice facility, even the balls are included. The practice facility is absolutely fabulous, second to none.”

Kurt said Reflection Bay GM Eric Dutt planned the program well for members. “Members have the first tee times every day,” he said. “That’s huge. Especially in the summertime when it’s hot out.” Kurt also takes advantage of member rates for lessons with PGA Tour pros Jeff Gallagher and Craig Barlow. “They are both outstanding coaches,” he said. “I’m a believer that if you want to be a good player, you need someone looking at your golf swing.” For more information on Reflection Bay’s member program, call Kevin Eng at 702-904-7883 or email keng@reflectionbaygolf.com. EXPLORE LAKE LAS VEGAS

Sports Weekend Lake Las Vegas residents welcomed the cooler fall temperatures and explored the outdoors as part of the Explore Lake Las Vegas Sports Weekend and month-long Fitness Challenge. The challenge welcomed hundreds of fitness enthusiasts from Oct. 15 to Nov. 15. Throughout the month, a variety of in-person and virtual fitness challenges took participants on scenic adventures through Lake Las Vegas in group hikes and bike rides along some of the best trails in Southern Nevada. “This was a great opportunity to encourage everyone to get outdoors and stay active, especially during a time of year when fitness starts to take a backseat to holiday activities and other priorities,” said Jackie Arcana, director of fitness at the Lake Las Vegas Sports Club. The challenge kicked off with a morning group bike ride that took cyclers on a 6-mile loop through the community. The sports activities extended into the rest of the weekend with dual tennis and pickleball tournaments, a Titleist and Callaway “Demo Day” by Reflection Bay’s High Performance Golf institute, and the West Coast Open Water Championship. Visitors were also able to participate in the Lake Las Vegas Passport program to get an exclusive tour of its newest communities – Varenna by Woodside Homes, Armano by Lennar and Amberock by Richmond American Homes. The Fitness Challenge offered a variety of healthy activities including guided meditation sessions, barre classes, indoor mini-triathlon, guided hikes, cycling events and more. “I was excited to see how many residents and even those outside the community participated in the challenge. We’re looking forward to leading another one after the new year,” Arcana said.

LAKE LAS VEGAS SPORTS CLUB EXPANDS FACILITY & SERVICES IN 2020 – By Whitney Ogden

While last year has created unforeseen obstacles for many, 2020 offered Lake Las Vegas the opportunity to make the most out of difficult times. Lake Las Vegas Sports Club and its staff members spent the year working diligently to expand and improve the club to better serve its members.

Natalia Pysarenko

“This has been a difficult time for many of us – for our members, our staff and community – but we did everything we could to make this entire experience a positive one,” said Jackie Arcana, director of fitness at the Sports Club. “In 2020, we completely revamped the club to use every square inch of the facility in order to maximize efficiency, and to keep everyone at a safe social distance.” The club’s expansion included two new workout rooms, a cardio room and a new game room in the main building, which is set to open to the public in the upcoming months.

Kyle Petersen

The team worked to allow club members to maintain a steady workout routine while at a safe distance from other participants. They converted a pool-side cabana space into a strength training and high-intensity workout room, complete with designated weight lifting areas and TRX Fit System Suspension Trainers throughout. Behind the strength training room is a new cycling studio, which took the place of a former game room. The studio features garage doors that open up to the club’s basketball court and offers expansive views of the High Performance Golf Institute’s exclusive training course. “We had a lot of changes last year in order to make sure our members were able to still come to classes and maintain a sense of community while staying safe and healthy,” Arcana said.

Jennifer Schultz

MEET THE NEW TEAM MEMBERS

The Sports Club not only grew by studios in 2020, but also by staff members. UNLV alumnus Gabby Guzman and graduate assistant Kyle Petersen both joined the team as part of the club’s collaboration with UNLV. Guzman works as the facility’s newest fitness director and Petersen is the cycling instructor at the club while he finishes his Master’s degree in kinesiology. Arcana also brought on Jennifer Schultz, a former English professional soccer player who manages the front desk; and the club’s newest swim instructor Natalia Pysarenko, a former national Ukraine diving team member and performer in “O” by Cirque du Soleil. NOTE FROM THE PUBLISHER

Sanctuary

State-Of-Mind Close your eyes and start to imagine your highest self. Now start showing up like that. The steps we take to achieve our inner sanctuary is just as important as physically finding one. In our world, change is demanded so much from everyone directly in front of us; the question is, have we each honestly examined ourselves internally? Before we can expect the highest self from others in our world, we have to start there. How does one imagine their highest self? I can speak for myself when I say that I’ve seen the type of people that truly inspire me. Characters in my life that truly and deeply leave me shook in awe to my core. I am then reminded of how connected we have to be to see these identities revealed in others, enough to know what the best of humanity can be. If I simply describe five of those examples with one unique word for each, I’ll arrive at five identities my higher self refuses to ignore. For me, those five life-changing examples articulate these words: peaceful, focused, loving, forgiving, and patient. And just like that, my higher self has an unshakable identity. Showing up is a heart choice. The goal is to wake up every morning and navigate each thought with those identities on the corners of the heart’s compass. By choice, we can then consistently use each corner of our higher self’s compass on the daily journey. If we imagine north is peaceful, south is patient, east and west are focused and forgiving. Then one identity remains essential for true north — loving. Showing up as your highest self consistently tunes your heart to the compass that leads to your inner sanctuary. If you are good inside, you will authentically be good to everyone around you. We have to start there. Sincerely,

CREATING MORE SMILES WITH

Dr. Irwan Goh

– By Danica Serena Stockton Having been in the dentistry field for twenty years, Dr. Irwan Goh has found it most fulfilling to “build a healthy, confident smile in someone and see that transformation.” Before establishing his Las Vegas practice, Smiles by Goh, he completed his undergraduate at the University of California, Irvine; he then attended dentistry school at the University of California, San Francisco. After graduating, Goh practiced dentistry in southern California before moving to Las Vegas to learn cosmetic dentistry at the Las Vegas Institute for Advanced Dental Studies (LVI). Goh integrated into the Las Vegas community and fleshed out his skills by practicing under different dentists. “Ultimately, I bought a well-established practice of cosmetic dentistry in 2007. I operated in that location for five years before moving out to my current location in Henderson,” Goh shares. When building Smiles by Goh he sought a diverse staff that not only had the experience and skills, but also had «a big heart and the ability to listen to patient needs.

expresses of his practice,”It’s always important to change the perception of dentistry.”

Goh explains that he and his staff accomplish this “by eliminating the fear associated with dentistry, and educating patients with their choices to improve their health and their smiles, thereby improving their confidence. We take pride in what we have to offer in our practice of compassionate care.” Smiles by Goh offers services ranging from family dentistry, cosmetic dentistry, cleanings and prevention, orthodontics, replacements, and more. When asked about what motivates him, Dr. Irwan Goh shares, “My life is all about growth. Suit Up For Battle WITH PATRICK KANG

– By Danica Serena Stockton Ace Law Group understands that faster is not always better, especially when maneuvering accident injury cases. Attorney Patrick Kang explains, “One thing I always stress to clients is if they want a quick fix, we are not that law firm.” This approach takes time and patience, but yields the highest settlement amounts and best outcomes for their clients. Kang admits, “It can be frustrating when we have some money on the table, but I’ve warned my clients we can get more.”

“Our firm is patient, so if our client is patient, we are willing to go to battle. We fight for every single penny.” -Patrick Kang The process of recovery and regaining losses can be overwhelming for accident injury victims, but shortcuts only hurt victims in the long run. Although initial improvement of injuries is common, chronic pain, inflammation, and decreased mobility usually accompany acute injuries.

Kang informs that “pain can be temporary and healed quickly, but can come back with fury.” Many patients may feel better before the injuries have resolved, and before their health and mobility return to their preaccident state.  Kang discusses how often, “Clients call me a year later because they regret settling so early and now they’re experiencing residual pain. After we settle, there’s nothing more I can do for them on that particular case.” With this type of haste, clients put themselves at a disadvantage, and the insurance company that is to payout their settlement at an advantage. Ace Law Group encourages its clients to trust the law process for better results.  According to Kang, “Insurance defense teams don’t take you seriously unless you go to trial. Win or lose, you have to go to trial.” Even if the trial is lost, the insurance defense team most likely will offer a higher settlement than they initially offered. Kang admits that insurance companies often offer an unjust settlement at the demise of the accident victim. “I don’t like insurance companies getting away with it,” Kang expresses.   To learn more, visit acelawgroup.com

Dr.Teddy Sim

CARES FROM THE INSIDE OUT Caring for ‘you’ means looking after your mind, body, spirit, and spine. If you want to do that naturally and holistically, Dr. Ted Sim of ChiropracTED has you covered.

Dr. Sim’s believe in the chiropractic principle that recognizes that a healthy aligned spine enhances the body’s inborn healing potential. His mission is to provide exceptional service for all his patients.

Dr. Sim’s passion for health and well being started during his time in the Air Force. “When you are in the military, they are looking at you to be your best, not just mentally, but physically as well. So strength, endurance, and keeping your body healthy was always a priority,” Dr. Teddy Sim said.

“I take my time with patients because this relationship between doctor and patient is quite intimate. We become close through the information they share with me; they trust me to rehabilitate them and make them better after an accident or injury. So, we treat them like family, and that truly sets us apart from other clinics,” he said

Stationed last in Las Vegas, Dr. Sim knew he wanted to make Vegas his home and pursue his goal of becoming a Chiropractor. He received his Bachelor’s in Kinesiological Sciences from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, followed by a Bachelor’s degree in Human Biology and Doctorate in Chiropractic from the University of Western States.

“I opened my clinic about six years ago in Las Vegas. We take care of anything that has to do with spinal conditions and musculoskeletal conditions. We offer Modalities, Spinal Manipulative Therapy, Physiotherapy, and Rehabilitation,” he said.

When he is not at ChiropracTED, Dr. Sim is taking meditation classes, yoga, hiking, or listening to music. He is a huge Mariah Carey fan. Another big part of his life is Zumba. “I’m an instructor, and I just love it. Zumba incorporates a lot of Hispanic music and dance moves like salsa and merengue. It is a lot of fun. And when you do that for a good hour, you work up quite a sweat,” he said.

REVENGE MD

IMMUNITY BOOST WITH IV DRIP THERAPY – By Danica Serena Stockton Health, wellness, and boosting immunity have all been of special interest recently. As a response to an increasing concern, Revenge MD Medical Clinic has tailored a special supplemental mineral and vitamin treatment, the Presidential VIP Immunity Drip series. This treatment helps patients to increase absorption of vitamin C and zinc, which improves their immunity and overall well being. Additional benefits, as mentioned by the clinic’s CEO, Sandra Bledsoe, include antiaging, increased athletic performance, enhanced brain function, hangover relief, and beautification. Bledsoe informs, “An immediate boost to the immune system can help to ward off colds, cases of flu, and COVID. The president recovered so quickly because he was doing a series of IV drips a day that included high levels of vitamin c and zinc.” While oral supplementation may sometimes help increase immunological defenses, Bledsoe specifies, “With oral supplements, we have a tendency to discard a vast amount through the urinary system. With IV therapy, we get 100% flushed through the vascular system.” When analyzing the body’s absorption abilities of vitamin C specifically, “At doses above 1g/ day, absorption falls to less than 50% and absorbed, unmetabolized ascorbic acid is excreted in the urine,” according to the National Institutes of Health. Scientific evidence also supports a strong correlation between stress and decreased immune system function. Bledsoe mentions, “When in a state of unrest, stress is a part of our daily lives.” Now is the time to take preventative measures to ensure optimal health this winter season. For those that may have apprehensions to receive services during such a time, Bledsoe encourages, “We are a highly COVID protected clinic. We follow CDC standards of protection from the governor’s office, and we adhere to CDC guidelines. We also have a fulltime medical provider on the premise during operating hours.”

Bledsoe receives IV therapy herself once a week and shares, “I want to keep my immune system at peak performance. It takes about an hour and 15 minutes, and our nurses are so skilled. Our drips are for all ages and body types.” As a medical clinic, Revenge MD is considered an essential business and remains open regardless of shutdowns. While receiving treatment, Bledsoe advises clients to “watch their favorite show or listen to their favorite music or podcast in the luxury setting of their Henderson location with a relaxed lounge environment.” Prices range from $185-$285. UPLIFTING VOICES

Destiny Malibu

MAKING MUSIC & LIVING IN LAKE LAS VEGAS – Q&A With Andy Gil

There’s a great story behind your name. How did you get it? I chose the artist name Destiny Malibu because my real name is Destiny and I was raised in Malibu, California. You write your own songs and play both the guitar and piano. Tell our readers about your songwriting. I wrote my first song when I was 9 and I’ve been writing ever since. I write all my music and I just love it. You were a contestant on American Idol! Tell us about that. American Idol was so much fun. It was really cool to meet Katy Perry and Ryan and Lionel Richie. It was scary to sing for them especially, but I learned so much and it was just an awesome experience. I got to be on the Time Square ball drop which was on my bucket list. That was really cool. How did you come out to Lake Las Vegas and have you written any new songs since you moved here? In 2018 my family’s home actually burned down in the Woolsey fire. So, then we were in LA for a bit and then we decided to buy a place in Lake Las Vegas. Which we absolutely love, it’s completely gorgeous here it’s not the beach but I have the lake which is equally as beautiful. I actually wrote an entire new quarantine album that’s coming out for production in 2021. What is your favorite part of Lake Las Vegas? Actually, I would say The VIllage. I love it. I love the water sports. I haven’t had a chance to do that yet, but I am a water girl so I’m going to be out there very soon. For more information visit www.destinymalibu.com.

Attorney Dimopoulos began his career as a corporate lawyer in his home state of Michigan. Even before going into practice, Dimopoulos showed considerable legal promise. He scored in the top one percent nationally on the multistate bar exam, and he would go on to obtain licenses to practice in three states. Dimopoulos moved to Las Vegas in April of 2012 and founded Dimopoulos Law Firm three years later in May of 2015. His niche, personal injury practice, focuses primarily on car accidents. In the beginning, the staff comprised of only Dimopoulos and one assistant. Less than five years later the firm has exploded and has become a legal-all-star-team, nearly fifty people strong. “Our team includes three former insurance defense lawyers, we are licensed in six states and we speak seven languages fluently” Dimopoulos is proud to add.

Despite the flashy billboards, most new clientele comes to the firm via referral by existing clients. Dimopoulos attributes his success in producing results plain and simple. The firm recovers millions monthly on behalf of its clients. Passionate about outside-thebox-thinking, Dimopoulos admits few things are more gratifying than recovering for a client when other attorneys didn’t see an angle. “I don’t mean to be cliché, but changing people’s lives for the better and seeing the looks on their faces when we do it are some of my favorite things about my job.” On the topic of helping people, St. Jude’s Research Hospital and the Injured Police Officers’ Fund are some of Dimopoulos’ favorite charities. What’s the latest at Dimopoulos Law? Be sure to check out their new 13,000 square foot Town Square location. Their over-the-top office boasts amenities such as a private fitness center, and mock courtroom and the firm “breakroom” is more akin to a luxurious private dining room you’d expect to find on the Las Vegas strip. www.stevedimopoulos.com

Circa’s

LUXE LEGACY CLUB – By Stacey Gualandi

A VIEW THAT KILLS For anyone looking to toast 2021 with a good stiff drink, look no further than the Legacy Club, the new luxe rooftop cocktail experience high atop Circa Resort & Casino in the heart of Downtown Las Vegas. The nearly 9,000 square foot upscale lounge was five years in the making and boasts an expansive terrace, fire pits, a display of 500 two-ounce Circa-branded gold bars (worth what the ticker says on any given day), and according to Circa CEO Derek Stevens, the best sunset vantage point in the city.

“When you get to see Las Vegas light up right before your eyes, it’s something pretty special,” says Stevens of the panoramic Valley views. “You know you’ve got a great night ahead of you.” The lounge got its label by paying homage to the icons who made Las Vegas what it is today. Eleven “founding fathers,” including Howard Hughes, Benny Binion, and Bob Stupak are enshrined with metal busts in the 60th-floor entryway as you exit the exclusive elevator, and in blackand-white portraits leading directly to the centerpiece bar.

36 | Deluxe Version Magazine

That devotion to decades past is also reflected in the club’s cocktail program, including a build-your-own Old Fashioned menu with over 200 whiskeys to choose from; and new twists on old classics, like their namesake Legacy Club, which shakes up a traditional Clover Club (Absolut Elyx and prickly pear syrup replace gin and raspberry). “We tried to do the same with classic cocktails that made what the craft cocktail world is today,” says Sam Pulliam, the Director of Beverage. “I feel like this is what Vegas used to be: the glitz, glamour, and mid-century vibe.” The Legacy Club’s opening and the hotel’s 777-room and suites tower follow the October reveal of the world’s largest sportsbook; Stadium Swim’s year-round pool/amphitheater; and Circa’s two-story casino with a refurbished icon, “Vegas Vickie.” Now, the first ground-up, adults-only casino-resort downtown in forty years is finally complete and leaving a legacy of its own. The “founding fathers” would toast to that.

HOSPITALITY

CHICA Miami

John Kunkel & 50 Eggs Hospitality Group

THE RELENTLESS PURSUIT OF EXCELLENCE 50 Eggs Hospitality Group has managed to not only stay afloat during the pandemic restaurant crisis, but actually thrive. Over the past nineteen years and counting, founder and CEO, John Kunkel, continues to create new restaurant concepts and evolve the dining and hospitality industry alongside culinary leaders, such as famed Chef Lorena Garcia. With creme de la crop standards, Kunkel expresses his gratitude to work with the best of those in their fields to create extraordinary restaurants. He has fostered business relationships throughout his career, such as those with Sand Corp. and the Venetian Las Vegas, that provide prominent locations for his innovative concepts. 50 Eggs Hospitality Group has already opened a few concepts in Las Vegas at The Venetian such as Yardbird Southern Table & Bar, CHICA, and Spritz Restaurant & Bar. Kunkel also has three additional projects on tap within the resort. Following the eminent reaction to CHICA Las Vegas, he explains, “We are ramping up to reopen CHICA Miami this winter after the pandemic forced us to close the doors just months after the location’s grand opening in 2019.” The allure of CHICA expands beyond the fresh food and explosive culinary creations by renowned Chef-Partner, Lorena Garcia.

Acclaimed design firm, Rockwell Group, was brought on board to create an immersive and unique venue that truly elevates the guest experience. The design details of CHICA Miami are so remarkable that it was nominated for the Restaurant & Bar Design Awards® 2020 and the Boutique Design Gold Ket Awards in New York. Kunkel’s wild success is not by chance, but rather by years of hands-on experience and a creative edge that sets him apart. He recounts his formative years, “At fifteen, I started as a cook and worked my way through every position of the restaurant. I got to know the business inside and out.” Kunkel later established 50 Eggs Hospitality Group and brought the concept of Yardbird Southern Table & Bar to life in Miami Beach. With such an overwhelmingly positive response, he and his group introduced the restaurant to four more locations: Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Singapore, and Dallas. Kunkel informs of additional Yardbird locations on the rise, “Washington, D.C. and Chicago will open next year.” Humble beginnings and larger-than-life results yield the hospitality empire John Kunkel continues to grow well beyond the perceived limitations of the pandemic. He expresses, “We have been like a Phoenix rising from the ashes of the coronavirus.” He describes restaurant

shutdowns as an opportunity, “to improve, learn, and focus on our culture and people.” Kunkel attributes much of his success to expertise, surrounding himself with the most skilled restaurant industry professionals, quality staff, and a commitment to ensuring not only his guests’ happiness and satisfaction, but that of his team members also.

“Six to seven years later we are still going strong with a lot of the same professionals we started within our Vegas location, which plays a huge part in why we are so successful to date,” he acknowledges. With over ten restaurants opening in the upcoming year, 50 Eggs Hospitality Group continues to forge a new path in even the harshest of climates within the industry.

WE HAVE TO BELIEVE IN THE MAGIC OF

Olivia Newton-John Written By Paul Zahn & Photographed By Michelle Day

Olivia Newton-John is thriving during a very challenging moment in history. The world continues to face a global pandemic but Olivia is taking this opportunity to focus on what she does best. The iconic British-Australian actress and singer is gearing up to release new music in 2021. She is also working to fund research on plant-based and holistic medicine for people facing cancer with her charity, The Olivia Newton-John Foundation. Additionally, Olivia is advocating for the therapeutic use of cannabis to treat health ailments. The one thing not slowing her down – her third bout with cancer. Olivia skyrocketed to global fame in 1978 when she played Sandy in the film version of the Broadway play, Grease. She starred alongside John Travolta in the film which is still one of the highest-grossing movie musicals of all time with box office totals well over 400 million. Olivia shared that “playing Sandy in GREASE really changed my life. I was having some great successes with my music prior to the film and was even honored to receive a few Grammys and lovely honors. However, GREASE was so global it pushed me into another realm – and I’m beyond grateful for that experience. Dancing with John Travolta wasn’t so bad either!” After Grease, Olivia continued her movie musical run with the cult classic Xanadu. The movie remains a time capsule of 1980’s kitsch and Olivia has an inkling as to why. “Xanadu for me was way ahead of its time. The script wasn’t great but the music was fantastic. My longtime friend and producer John Farrar wrote and produced some of my biggest hits including “Magic” from that film.” The film was choreographed by Kenny Ortega and Olivia even had a chance to share the screen with another iconic male star. “I got to dance with Gene Kelly – what a surreal (and scary) experience,” she gushes. “He was such a lovely man who really taught me a lot. What’s really great is that the film now has screenings all over the world in cult film houses and they even made a Broadway musical out of it which was hilarious!” Olivia continued to soar up the music charts in the 1980s with bangers like her hit single and music video, "Physical." Her music career has earned her four Grammy Awards but Olivia did have some hurdles while climbing the pop charts. She shares, “I would have to say back when I was starting it was all about paying your dues and touring and playing live wherever they would have you.” Olivia’s vibrant vocals helped her to win a singing competition which brought her to England, where she would meet her singing partners Pat Carroll and Cliff Richard. Richard featured Olivia on his show but ultimately she feels the material was key to her success. “Back then it was really about having great songs and producers and of course the right opportunity. I am very blessed to have had all of those things happen for me,” Olivia said.

Recently, Olivia has been focusing on two important projects – cannabis and her charity. She is facing her third bout with cancer since 1992 and she is very vocal about her approach this time. Her husband John is a staunch advocate and cultivates cannabis on their spacious Santa Barbara, California property. “I am so fortunate to be married to an amazing man, “Amazon” John Easterling, who happens to be an expert with herbs, plant medicine, and cannabis. Throughout my current cancer journey, he has created special tinctures from cannabis he grows in our greenhouse – everything to help me – from pain to anxiety to sleep,” she shares. Olivia continues, “There have been many studies of cannabis completed with very exciting results and we intend to do further studies with money raised through my foundation fund to add to the body of scientific studies.” Olivia’s goal with The Olivia Newton-John Foundation Fund is to help realize a world beyond cancer. With her holistic approach, she is “determined to discover kinder ways to prevent, treat and cure all cancers.” She shares, “my dream is that we will realize a world beyond cancer. I honestly believe we can do it. The foundation will help fund studies to prove the science behind plants. There are over 100,000 species of plants in the rainforest and only 3% have been studied for their therapeutic value. Only 3%! With 100,000 species of plants just imagine the possibilities.” In 2020, Olivia added some new skills to her list of talents including baker.

“I learned to bake bread and I’ve been painting. Oh – and I love gardening and this year I actually got to plant vegetables early in the year and watch them grow and then prepare meals with them – I’ve always wanted to do that,” she shared. She has also been enjoying time with her family and has recorded a new song with her daughter, Chloe Lattanzi. “It’s called “Window in the Wall” and the lyrics really connect with what is going on in our world today. I knew I wanted to sing it as a duet and my daughter Chloe (Lattanzi) was my first choice,” Olivia shares. The two had a Number One Billboard Dance Club Play hit five years ago with a riff on a remake of Olivia’s hit “Magic.” From cannabis and cancer to research, to creating new music, to becoming a master baker – Olivia Newton-John has not let a pandemic slow her down. The multiplatinum songstress’s career spans decades and she’s ready to conquer the world even more in 2021. We have to believe in magic, and magic personified is Olivia Newton-John.

BOYZ II MEN & HARMONY WINES:

THE PERFECT PAIRING – By Paul Zahn 2021 is a touchstone year for powerhouse R&B vocal group Boyz II Men. The trio is celebrating thirty years since the release of their hit debut album Cooleyhighharmony. The group is also gearing up to head back to Las Vegas to take the stage for their long-standing residency. Additionally, the vocal powerhouses have been taking on a new venture – the wine world. They have launched Harmony Wines, a true passion project. In 1991, Boyz II Men exploded onto the music scene with their debut single, “Motownphilly.” The song, produced by Michael Bivins of Bell Biv Devoe, skyrocketed up both the R&B and pop charts. The group also had a huge hit with the follow-up single off of Cooleyhighharmony, “It’s So Hard To Say Goodbye to Yesterday.” The group reflects, “It is really incredible to think we’ll be celebrating our 30th anniversary this year. We’re so humbled and grateful for our fans who have given us the support from day one to help us get to where we are today.” Following their debut album, Boyz II Men’s single “End of the Road” from the movie Boomerang’s soundtrack solidified the group as mainstream pop music mainstays. Their sophomore album, II, included the hits “On Bended Knee,” “Water Runs Dry,” and the group’s signature ballad, “I’ll Make Love To You.” The vocal powerhouses also dueted with the iconic Mariah Carey on one of the longest-running numberone songs on the Billboard music charts, “One Sweet Day.” The album won the group a Grammy Award for Best R&B album in 1995. Boyz II Men continued to tour and create music following their success in the 1990s; however, the group’s latest venture is that for the 21 plus crowd- they have launched their own wine line. They shared, “creating Harmony Wines is truly a passion project for us. We all appreciate a good glass of wine to celebrate a show, tour, or special occasion, so it was a natural fit.” The singers dove deep into the winemaking process and opted to head to a particular country – known for notable wines. “We’ve traveled across the world and enjoyed some of the finest wine. France always has a special place in our hearts and is known for winemaking, so what better place to create our own label,” they shared. “We collaborated with Château Auguste in Bordeaux, France, to create a red, white, and rose,” they offered. The group sought to blend their music skills with the craftsmanship of winemaking. “We used a practice called Genomics, based on the science that music boosts the natural immunity of the vines and helps create an authentic wine without additives or pesticides,” they said. Boyz II Men crafted their wines the same way they created their hits – for their fans. They shared,

“We had the chance to figure out what we wanted for our brand, and ultimately, we made it for the fans.” The R&B icons also enlist their hits while making and bottling Harmony Wines. They gushed, “at the vineyard, music, occasionally with one of the most recognizable lines ‘pour the wine, light the fire’ from ‘I’ll Make Love to You,’ is played twice a day.” The group found the whole process “extremely rewarding,” and they look forward to sharing the wines with those who matter most – the fans. As the new normal begins in 2021, Boyz II Men is ready to do what they do best – sing and tour. This time, the R&B groups harmonizing will be perfectly paired with a new touring partner and fan-favorite- Harmony Wines.

EXECUTIVE CLASS KEEPING UP WITH JARED GARCIA

– By Dayna Roselli Jared Garcia is a top executive in the nightlife industry in Las Vegas. He works with the best DJs in the world to create memorable nights for people visiting the entertainment capital of the world.

What causes are important to you? “One of the main foundations I support is the Tim Bergling Foundation, which focuses on suicide prevention. Bergling was a friend of mine, and it’s something I hold very personal.”

He moved to Las Vegas about 14 years ago from Salt Lake City, expecting to be here for only two years. He started as a promoter at one of the Wynn’s top nightclubs; from there, he took on the role of booking top DJs when they had just started to become a big part of Las Vegas nightlife. Garcia stayed loyal, and so did his company as he moved his way to the top. His hard work has paid off, and Garcia was even featured in Billboard when he earned the promotion to his latest role as Director of Lifestyle Marketing. The nightlife executive currently focuses on DJ, celebrity, influencer, and model events. He was recently in charge of Sofia Ritchie’s 21st birthday, which she attended with Kylie Jenner and all of her friends. Garcia says, “it was a fun night, as you can imagine.” He is thankful for his job and the experiences he’s been able to create. He is well-traveled and has some important causes that are close to his heart. We recently caught up with Garcia to learn more about his journey and executive experience. Let’s talk about travel. Where have you been? We’ve seen all of your incredible pictures! “I travel for work, but it’s also a hobby of mine. I go to Ibiza and Mykonos every year for my job to see what the other venues are doing, to see what kind of production they’re doing, and to scout and see what new upcoming artists and DJs are around. Then I bring that information back and try to incorporate that into the Vegas venues. As far as personal travel, I have been to all seven world wonders. My next goal is to visit Antarctica, so I can say I’ve been to all seven continents; that’s the only one I’m missing! I have been to more than 40 countries.” I can only imagine that traveling to all these places has helped with your job? “It helps me out a lot when people come to town to visit from around the world. I have seen a lot of different cultures and places, it helps me connect with them. I can relate more, and I have better conversations with them.”

Bergling was also known as Avicii; he was a Swedish DJ superstar. He died in 2018. Garcia also remembers bringing Avicii to a charity event that supported Keep Memory Alive back in 2014. What’s next in nightlife? “I think Vegas is one of the only cities in the states to have had all of the biggest DJs in the world that you can come and see. People would travel to Vegas, on a Friday they would see Avicii, on a Saturday they can see Calvin Harris, and then on Sunday, David Guetta. I think smaller clubs and lounges are going to come back; the generation that grew up with the whole EDM craze and the festival craze is getting older, and they like a different experience. I do think the big DJs in Las Vegas will be here for a while.” Follow Jared Garcia on Instagram: @jaredgarcialv

She informs that sex trafficking is much more prevalent than many realize and occurs in schools, the entertainment industry, the military, large businesses, and even within families. “Children are often fed [mind altering substances] to make abuse more comfortable. They don’t want to admit to their experiences because when they do, parents often respond with ‘What are you talking about? You’re being ridiculous.’ It’s brushed off,” Miles says. This invalidates their pain and suffering, further encouraging them to keep silent. Some parents go so far as to throw money at the problem in an effort to save their family’s reputation. “How are we allowing this in our community and turning a blind eye?” Miles questions.

ON THE SCENE WITH

MATT FINN It’s an age-old question inevitably asked as young people approach adulthood. “What do you want to be when you grow up?” Lucky are those that feel drawn toward a specific career field early on. For some, that field is Journalism. Fox News National Correspondent Matt Finn falls into that category. From a young age, he knew he wanted to make an impact in Broadcasting and Journalism. Over the years, he drew upon his passion for storytelling as he worked in different markets up to a national level. Now based in Los Angeles, Finn leads a jam-packed schedule covering the biggest national stories across the country. When we spoke, he was in Louisville, Kentucky. Prior to LA, Finn worked in Chicago and Las Vegas markets. Before that, he attended Temple University to study Journalism. I ask what his favorite thing about working in the field is.

“We get a front-row seat to so much history,” he says. “Sometimes it’s exciting and exhilarating. Other times it’s saddening and heavy. We find ourselves in situations and geographic places that we probably never would be if not for our jobs. And it’s critical that we present these moments or stories with clarity and fact.” Finally, what are some of Matt Finn’s passions outside of news? “Because I travel and have moved so often, I’m passionate about prioritizing my time with my family and friends. And both on and off the job, I really enjoy exploring the region of the country I’m in. I’m always fitting in scenic hikes, runs, or activities like biking and skiing.” With an impressive resume under his belt, a highprofile career, and a healthy, social lifestyle, he’s certainly an inspiration to all to dream big!

MUSIC & PERFORMING WITH CHRISTINA AMATO

“I’ve always been interested in singing from birth. There was never an option B for me.” Amato expresses her gratitude to her father, Tommy Amato, for always surrounding her with the creative process of musicmaking.

“My father was the drummer for Bobby Darin in the ’70s. He’s also played with the Allman Brothers Band and Donna Summer,” she explains. Amato illustrates her experience with her father as a child, “He normalized the music business and entertainment. Our home was always a revolving door of professional musicians. I would sit in on their rehearsals and watch them work through songs from the beginning to the finished piece.” Amato recounts the start of her singing career, “Zowie Bowie was my first professional show in Vegas eight years ago. I love working with Chris Phillips, lead singer of Zowie Bowie.” Amato’s long career has been full of

ATTORNEY NICK POMPONIO: Maintaining Quality Even In Unprecedented Times

Personal injury and auto accident attorney, Nick Pomponio, has always set the bar high when it comes to representing his clients. He assures of his business operations, “COVID-19 shutdowns and regulations have not negatively affected [our] ability to resolve client cases.” Even in the midst of the pandemic, Pomponio informs that, “We are doing everything here at [Pomponio Injury Law] to give our clients the same [quality of] service they would have received [prior to] COVID-19. While ensuring their health and safety, we are still fighting for them.” The personal injury field has been presented with many obstacles in the midst of the pandemic. Insurance carriers have downsized and transitioned their remaining employees to work at home. Medical providers have reduced their availability to see patients, some ceasing care entirely. The courts have shut down periodically, leaving several necessary services and documents unattainable in the meantime. Each of these factors might typically further delay the already drawn out and lengthy processes of personal injury claims. However, attorney Nick Pomponio informs that he and his team at Pomponio Injury Law are, “settling claims just as quickly and for the same maximum [settlements as they were prior] to the pandemic.” While business as usual appears to be a statement of the past, Pomponio speaks on how he and his practice have adjusted in order to maintain high quality service and prompt case resolutions for their clients.

62 | Deluxe Version Magazine

“A lot has changed over the last few months and we have adapted accordingly. While it may take more creative [approaches] and longer hours at the office, I’m more than happy to go the extra mile. [Although] it may be harder to get in touch with insurance carriers working from home or to assist in my clients’ vehicle repairs, we are still making it work. We have not let COVID-19 put a stranglehold on our clients. In fact, the average turnaround time in settling cases has not changed.” Many clients’ needs are more dire now than ever. Pomponio explains, “Not only have their lives changed because of the injuries they have sustained, but many have been laid off and do not have steady income as they once did.” Furthermore, Pomponio continues, “This is especially true in Las Vegas with many people working in the entertainment and service industries. The settlements obtained during this time have a deeper effect on their lives than normal.” Nick Pomponio expresses, “We are doing everything we can to ensure our clients get the representation they deserve.” To have such a dedicated legal team in unprecedented times proves to be exceptionally valuable for injury and accident victims.

Health, Wellness, & Giving Back With

MARISSA HAWKINS Marissa Hawkins is a Massage Envy franchise business owner. She not only offers membership-based health and wellness services, but also a helping hand through nonprofit organizations and fundraising. In February 2020, Massage Envy partnered with two local companies, Socrates online tutoring service, and Brite Star Books. Together they created a book drive for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd graders for the summer. Hawkins explains, “At the end of the [school] year, teachers come out of pocket for gifts for their students. We gave teachers options between three book topics: science, animals, and life skills.” The teachers can select which book to give to each student depending on their individual personality and interests. Each donor bought a number of books at $5 each and included a personalized message to the recipient. Hawkins mentions that donor and UFC president Dana White’s message was, “The UFC loves you. I hope you enjoy the book.” Other donors include Patrick Kobielsky of Pacific Sunbelt Mortgage, Gaudin Porsche, and more. The drive was able to raise 4,000 books in just 45 days. With each book, the Socrates learning platform was provided at no cost for the children to use throughout the summer. Hawkins gives insight on her motivation for the drive, “Everything I do is about tying people together. It takes a village to raise kids.” With Governor Sisolak mandating shutdowns of all nonessential businesses in March 2020, Hawkins confesses, “To consider us non-essential was a real blow.” Many customers are victims of injury or health issues and rely on massage services to alleviate pain and discomfort, which is essential for them. In efforts to stay connected during a time when so many people were alone, Hawkins and her team made courtesy health check calls to members. Hawkins shares exciting news of another way she and the Massage Envy teams were able to help during trying times. “Our teams at Massage Envy and our members raised over 1,200 massage services to give to our frontline nurses, which is equivalent to $140,000 in donations.” With her mother being a nurse, Hawkins understands the difficulties they face. “These services are going to a special group of people. Massage Envy partnered with the Philippine Nurses Association of Nevada, a 501C3 organization, to vet out gift cards to local frontline nurses,” she says. With their help, these nurses “get that much-needed relaxation and that power hour of their choice of massage or facial,” Hawkins explains.

"Focus on the good because the good will get better." – Marissa Hawkins Hawkins stresses the importance of maintaining a positive outlook in difficult times. She encourages everyone to “Stay positive, stay healthy, and focus on the things that really matter, and that’s people.” Marissa Hawkins continues to follow her calling, “to promote health and wellness and give back to the community.”

RASMEEKA ONSTEAD Brings Performance Edge To Real Estate

Rasmeeka Onstead is a leader in Las Vegas real estate. She is known for her high-quality service and expertise, but there is something unique about this agent. Onstead was born in Durban, South Africa, and at the age of two, her parents packed up the family and moved to Las Vegas. “My mom enrolled me into gymnastics; I was a competitive gymnast my entire childhood nationally and internationally. I was on the US national team for gymnastics, and my goal was to be in the 2000 Olympics, but an injury ended my career as a gymnast,” she said. When you live in a city of entertainment like Vegas, similar opportunities are sure to present themselves, “I transitioned into the world of choreography and performing,” she said. Onstead performed for some of the top Las Vegas shows and toured with many top 40 artists. “Toni Braxton, Usher, Dave Navarro, and many others. As far as shows on the strip, many of them are gone now, but my first one was in acrobatics in Folies Bergere, a staple at the time in Vegas,” she said. After 17 years in entertainment, Onstead decided to change things up. Now one of the top real estate agents in Vegas, she sets herself apart from the rest of the pack by using the skills she honed as a performer where she learned to connect with clients on a personal level.

“I have always been interested in the real-estate world. Growing up in Las Vegas I have witnessed the city change dramatically. The city has grown from just a few casinos to what it is now, and it’s still growing and evolving.” “I love to make people smile, and I guess that is part of the performer in me. I think one of my definite strengths is I have a vast knowledge of the Las Vegas market. I take every single transaction very personally, and I get to know my clients. I listened to them, their needs, and their wants. Not only do I help them make all of their real estate dreams come true, but I also carry on the relationship for years. A lot of my clients and I are still friends to this day,” she said. When she is not busy working, Onstead spends time with her daughter, travels the world, and gives to her community through various charitable organizations.

PUBLISHER’S CHOICE: ONE TO WATCH

ADRIAN KARIMI Adrian Karimi grew up throughout Southern California. “I moved around a lot as a kid, mainly for financial reasons. My mother and I immigrated to the states when I was young. It was tough, and I felt like an outsider sometimes. My mom tried her best to put me in good neighborhoods, with good schools, even though we didn’t fit the demographic profile because we were, you know, immigrants. My mom was a single mom who was struggling to make ends meet. I went to schools with more affluent kids, and I was the one in hand-me-down or older fashion clothes, while everyone else had their new shoes and clothes for the school year,” Adrian said. These challenging experiences in his childhood created a fight and a drive to work harder and be stronger, which was a huge factor in him eventually becoming a lawyer. “When I was eight years old, I knew I wanted to be a lawyer. A lot of that had to do with witnessing what my mom went through. People would try to take advantage of my mom’s inability to understand English well or our social circumstances. It bothered me growing up that, in a sense, the “big people” were taking advantage of the “little people.” No one seemed to hold them accountable. So I wanted to be a lawyer and be the one standing up for the little guy. At my law firm that is what I do; I go against big companies and fight for my clients and the individuals that I represent,” he said. After high school, Adrian attended UCLA and earned his Bachelor’s degree in History. While in college, Adrian was in the band, “Translate the Name.” We had a couple of albums and appeared on MTV, and we even toured in the US. It was cool, a fun time,” he said. After graduating from UNLV, he moved to Las Vegas and attended William S. Boyd School of Law at UNLV. “When I was in law school, I got an externship which is like an internship for the Honorable Justice Pickering of the Nevada Supreme Court, and also for the Honorable Judge Abbi Silver of the Eighth Judicial District Court, Dept. XV in Clark County, Nevada,” he said. He also worked as a law clerk in private practice.

“After graduation, I got my first job working for a judge, and then I went into private practice, which is where I still am today. I like being able to make a difference for people. They’re looking for someone to help them right the wrong and seek justice for what they’ve gone through. I am able to assist them through their situation, get them their justice, and I’m able to help them; there is nothing more gratifying than that,” he said. 68 | Deluxe Version Magazine

Adrian has been practicing law for about seven years now and explains what sets his law firm apart from the rest in Las Vegas; “Our law firm doesn’t do big billboards, we exclusively work based on our reputation, and a lot of people come to us based on recommendations and references; we thrive on word of mouth. We take pride in our litigation and going to trial. We’ve been very successful going to trial,” he said. That success leads to the firm taking on more clients and cases, which has Adrian and his team looking to expand their offices into Northern Nevada, California, and Arizona in 2021. When Adrian is not in the courtroom, he spends his time giving back to the Las Vegas community. “I support animal shelters, and I volunteer with Three Square Food Bank. I also support the VGK Foundation, which is a Golden Knights charity arm. I’ve donated heavily to that. I’m a big Golden Knights fan. I stay active with my alma mater UCLA and Boyd Law, and I represent many clients in need pro bono on various legal issues,” he said. Adrian is also in a soccer league, enjoys attending music venues, sports games, and hiking with his dog, Sadie.
