Welcome Hello and

The name DLT has been synonymous with chiropody for nearly 100 years when the late D L Townend opened one of the first clinics in Yorkshire in 1929. We are extremely proud of our long association with the industry and the valuable relationships established with podiatrists, healthcare professionals and our suppliers over many years. This is our first issue of Step Forward, a magazine designed to keep you updated with the latest news; aiming to cover the relevant issues of the day and showcasing the many successful projects and activities undertaken by our customers and suppliers. Following a period of organisational changes, including the introduction of a new senior management team, DLT had a very successful year in 2023 with unprecedented growth. We are now in a great position to make significant investments in the business with plans to recruit more personnel to expand our team as well as launching a number of new products and improvements to our existing range. News

During 2023 we saw many changes and expansions to our product range. New partnerships with new brands throughout the year meant we could introduce their products to our range. Our surgery equipment range now includes popular products from Berchtold and Yeson. We have also expanded our retail range with Archies Footwear which has been very popular with podiatrists up and down the UK.

A new partnership with Berchtold At the start of 2023, we were delighted to be appointed as UK distributor for the highly regarded range of equipment from Berchtold. Berchtold dust extraction drills have been one of the most popular podiatry drills for many years due to their strong dust extraction, performance and reliability. The latest Podo-Q is also slimmer, lighter, and much quieter making it an excellent choice for busy practices and domiciliary users. To complement the Berchtold drills, a new range of cabinets were launched in the Summer. The Jana Foot Care Cabinets have proved a hit in both private practices and NHS settings. The units benefit from a design that is considerate of key healthcare requirements such as ease of cleaning with handle-less drawers and castors for moveability. The new units are also a pleasure to use as they offer maximum flexibility with the ability to accommodate the lamp and handpiece on either side of the unit to suit different user

preferences. The lighter weight design of the Podo-Q has made it a lot more suitable for domiciliary use and Berchtold have further expanded its mobile equipment range with a new sturdy foot rest available in a choice of colours. Towards the end of 2023, just in time for our attendance at the RCPod conference in Liverpool, we introduced the Berchtold Podo Easy patient chair to the range. With comfortable, easy-care upholstery and three electric motors, this patient chair is convenient and easily adjustable. Scan the QR code to view the full range from Berchtold!

Affordable autoclaves with full back up and support We are delighted to introduce the new Pod-8 and Pod-12 vacuum autoclaves, to our equipment range. Designed in the UK, these autoclaves were created to specifically meet the needs of podiatrists. Competitively priced, the Pod-8 and Pod-12 have been developed for maximum flexibility and ease of use. They have the option to run vacuum cycles for sterilisation in pouches, or shorter non-vacuum cycles for the sterilisation of unwrapped solid instruments for immediate use. They each have a compact design

with both the Pod-8 and Pod-12 sharing the same outer footprint,. The Pod-12 can hold a higher capacity of instruments making it the perfect choice for busy/multi-chair practices. Both autoclaves are supplied with a comprehensive warranty and full support/back up. We offer a choice of delivery options to suit your individual needs with the option of personal delivery and installation if required.

The Pod-8 and Pod-12 autoclaves are available from DLT Podiatry from just

Archies Arch Support Footwear Last year our Archies stockists across the UK had an extremely successful year selling the popular range. It was fantastic to see many new clinics adding Archies to their retail offering and regularly reordering stock throughout the spring/summer season. Here we have a quote to help provide an insight on the positive impact of adding Archies to your clinic.

We absolutely love seeing your posts and reels about your new Archies products and retail stands online and we love reading your kind reviews about our delivery team and Business Development Managers on their quick and efficient deliveries! Keep tagging us in 2024.

“Since starting to stock Archies footwear after falling in love with the idea at the annual conference in Liverpool 2022, we have sold over 200 pairs of Archies and during the last two months alone sold an average of 30 pairs a month. They are such a popular product and they have attracted many new patients to our clinics who want to "try before they buy”, we make a product sale, they become a new regular patient, it’s win:win all the way for our clinics whichever way we look at it. Best retail product I have stocked for a long time, they simply sell themselves” -Jim Leigh, Foot Rescue, Dorset (Sept 2023). CF Pharma’s HOCl is based on shelf stable hypochlorous technology which delivers the highest efficacy with remarkable safety. It is dermatologically tested and is safe for patients of all ages. Manufacturing

Phenol Swab-It As well as distributing a range of leading brands we also produce our own products through our manufacturing arm Podopro UK Ltd which is based at the DLT Podiatry headquarters in West Yorkshire. Below, we take a look at the history of the Phenol Swab-It and what happens behind the scenes to manufacture the device in compliance with medical device regulations and the ISO 13485 quality standard.

The history of Swab-It Following a hazard alert issued for bottled liquid phenol in the year 2000, DLT Podiatry started to research potential alternatives to address the main concerns associated with the use of liquid phenol in larger quantities including spillage, excessive contact, phenol fumes, and leakage. A new delivery system was identified, and a study was conducted by the University of Durham that concluded; ‘The use of 89% phenol swabs (EZSwabs®) for a total of two minutes appears to contribute to a significant reduction in healing times after chemical matrixectomy. The implications of this are that patients are less likely to sustain a postoperative infection, have a reduced risk of nail re-growth, and can be discharged at an earlier point, making savings in both time and material costs for the clinician. Risks to the clinician are reduced, with less chance of splashing, and reduced potential for inhalation of phenol vapour.’ Phenol Swab-It was launched in the UK in 2006 and 17 years of safe and effective use have followed, the product has been used during millions of procedures across the world including the UK, America, and Australia.

How are they manufactured? The Phenol Swab-It consists of a controlled dose of phenol contained in a small, sealed ampoule with an integrated cotton bud

applicator. The ampoule is activated using the cotton bud applicator, which is used to absorb the phenol liquid. We manufacture the product in-house using a specialist single dosing machine to fill the individual ampoules and heat seal these in pouches. The individual pouches are bagged in a sealed outer bag in quantities of 12 or 30. The ampoule volume has been specifically designed to deliver a consistent dose and prevent excess phenol from being applied. The ampoule volume (0.2ml) delivers the phenol required for a 1 minute application, the device is designed so that all the phenol in the ampoule is absorbed by the cotton bud applicator, and post-procedure no phenol should remain in the ampoule. The empty ampoule and swab can be disposed of in a similar manner to the traditional empty gallipot and cotton bud.

a UK Approved Body and EU Notified Body to sell in these markets. The approved body/ notified body is responsible for granting UKCA and CE certification of the product, they regularly review the technical documentation for a product to ensure that the necessary testing and validation have been carried out. They will audit the manufacturer on a regular basis, undertaking both scheduled and unannounced audits where they will arrive to inspect live manufacturing activities without a prior appointment. The Swab-It device has both UKCA and CE certifications from our Approved Body/Notified Body and meets all the regulatory requirements associated with manufacturing a Class IIa medical device.

Where can I purchase Swab-It? We have sought to make the Phenol Swab-It as widely available as possible. As well as being available to buy directly from us at DLT Podiatry, Swab-It can also be purchased from Algeos, C&P Medical, and Just Care Podiatry.

What is its classification? Phenol Swab-It is a Class IIa medical device. The classification of the device is something that is assigned by the manufacturer according to the medical device regulations and enforced by the MHRA to ensure that the correct classification is assigned. Class IIa medical device manufacturers must appoint
