Frazee couple flies high for surprise proposal

t started out as a typical Monday, I worked all day and received a text from Bryce saying he would like to take my daughter and I out for supper. I was exhausted and didn't feel like going out to eat, so I asked if we could do it another night.

He quickly responded that he had promised my daughter we would go out for supper, so I agreed to go. We met after work and he started to drive my daughter and I towards Menards. My 8 year old says "Please tell me we are NOT going to Menards" (She hates Menards after going there 50 times throughout the summer to prepare to sell our house). Bryce responded "No honey, we aren't going to Menards". He proceeded to the Detroit Lakes Airport and parked the truck. I still didn't think anything was going on, as he bids jobs all over town for work and the airport was on that list of jobs. He walked my daughter and I into the airport and greeted a man named Mark. Mark asked if he was ready and Bryce responded yes. Bryce escorted us out on the runway to a small 10 seater plane, my daughter started crying

saying she was not getting on that small plane. I reassured her that it was going to be really fun to fly in that plane and that we must need to look from the sky at a job that Bryce needed to do. The whole time Bryce was just smiling at both of us and acting cool as a cucumber. Mark started the plane up and started to taxi down the runway, my daughter was still crying and scared. I sat next to her and held her hand, telling her this was going

to be something fun to talk about at school in the fall.

Bryce was seating behind my daughter across the isle from me. Once we were in the air, my daughter started to enjoy flight. We were flying over Detroit Lakes and then I noticed we were flying out of town. Bryce was telling my daughter look over there, that's Cotton Lake where our friends live. Soon I noticed we were flying over Frazee, where we had just purchased land to build a house together. Bryce says look over there honey, I am expecting to see the land we purchased and instead I saw flashing lights on the yellow fire trucks. I thought to myself "Oh no, I made him miss another fire call", as he is a Fire Fighter for the Frazee Fire Department. He asked what I thought? I looked closer and spelled out in Red, White and Blue Fire hose it said "Marry Me?" surrounded by the Frazee Fire Trucks with the lights flashing. I instantly started crying and didn't respond. He then asked my daughter and I, if I would marry him.

He grabbed my left hand and slid on a ring that was his mom's we found after she had passed away that he had customized for me. I said "Yes"!!

PLAN AHEAD ENGAGEMENT  Announce engagement.  Engagement photo. This can be used with engagement or wedding announcement for your local newspaper.  Set the date and choose a location for the wedding.  Create a budget.  Choose attendants.  Start shopping for your gown and bridesmaids' dresses.  If you wish to, hire a wedding coordinator.

6 TO 9 MONTHS

 Start compiling a list of guests. Ask your mother and the groom's mother to do the same.

 Book the photographer, band/D.J., caterers, florist, videographer, caterer, etc.

 Begin a list of favorite music and requested songs to give to the band or D.J.

 Choose an officient.  Go with the groom to a formalwear store or tailor.

After the groom's attire has been chosen, the ushers and groomsmen should go in and get fitted as soon as possible.

4 TO 6 MONTHS  Order invitations, napkins, programs and anything else that requires a certain amount of time for printing.  Choose your wedding bands.  The mother of the bride should shop for her dress.

When she has chosen what to wear the groom's mother should do the same.  Discuss whether you should reserve hotel rooms for out-of-town guests with your parents.  Set a time for the wedding rehearsal.  Plan rehearsal dinner.  Plan honeymoon. If traveling meet with a travel agent.  Book accomodations for wedding-night.

2 TO 4 MONTHS

 Finish up with alterations and try it on with all of

the accessories to make sure everything looks good.  Book a final fitting and start breaking in your shoes.  Final alterations on bridesmaids' dresses.  Confirm contracts with florist, photographer, D.J., caterer, videographer, etc. Make sure all is in order.  Set up appointments for hair, manicure, make-up.

It might be a good idea to set up a pre-wedding appointment to make sure you are satisfied with the style and it works with the dress.

 Shop for bridesmaids' gift and groomsmen's gifts.  Register for wedding gifts.  Start addressing invitations. Ensure proper post-

age by bringing one to the post office and have it weighed.  Take a day off from all the wedding planning to pamper yourself. This is a day just for you to relax, have a massage, take a day off of work.

6 TO 8 MONTHS  Mail invitations.  Go over rehearsal dinner details and finalize them.  Confirm reservations at hotels for out-of-town guests and also your reservations for your weddingnight.  Confirm travel plans for your honeymoon.  Ask the Maid of Honor and your attendants for help with small tasks.  Pick up wedding rings.  Have your gown pressed and make arrangements for pick-up date and time.  Marriage license.

3 TO 6 MONTHS

 Plan seating arrangements.  Start packing for the honeymoon.  Meet with the D.J./Band and go over any special music requests.

 Meet with the coordinator at the reception site to

go over all details, such as the time when the cake and flowers can be delivered and where on the day of the wedding.  Set up time for pictures with the photographer.

Make sure all parties who need to be there know this information ahead of time...don't forget to tell grandma and grandpa, brothers and sisters in case you are having family pictures at this time.  Check over all contracts thoroughly. When they need to be paid and if all requirements are met.  Take some time for the two of you...it's good to get away from all the stress of planning for awhile.

2 WEEKS

 Call the newspaper for information on placing a wedding announcement in the paper.

 Take care of life insurance beneficiary, health

insurance plans that best suit both of you. If you are changing your name contact the DMV, bank, credit cards and Social Security.  If possible start writing checks for those needing to be paid. The officient, photographer, videographer, D.J./Band, etc.

 Assign some friends or family to be responsible for

getting gifts to reception and transporting them at the end of the evening.

1 WEEK  Contact the caterer with the final guest count.  Take care of any last minute details with florist, musicians, etc.  Write a note to your parents and his parents for their love and support.  Put together a bag of everything you will need for the wedding day. Things to include...jewelry, extra pair of pantyhose, aspirin, bobby pins, safety pins, mints, undergarments. And don't forget something old, new, borrowed and blue!

3 DAYS

 Talk to the head usher about special seating arrangements or guests with special needs.

 Don't forget the marriage license. You may want to

give it to the Maid of Honor or Best Man to bring to the ceremony.  Notify attendants and parents on when they should arrive at the rehearsal. Give bridesmaids and groomsmen their gifts at the rehearsal dinner.  Get plenty of rest and eat right and drink your water.

THE WEDDING DAY  Eat a sensible breakfast.  Give the Maid of Honor the groom's ring.  Drink plenty of water.  Get your hair and make-up done.  Don't forget your "everything you need" bag.  Get to the church on time.  Relax and enjoy your day!

GETTING TO WHERE SHE IS NOW WAS A DECADES-LONG JOURNEY FOR BONNIE.

After devouring that first book about essential oils, she was determined to read more.

And the more she read, the more she wanted to know. So, in her spare time, she kept learning. She took online courses. She started experimenting with different oil blends. She read, and read, and read some more, until she had read every single book printed in English on the subject of essential oils. Really, every book. Every. Single. Book.

In time, she evolved from a student to a practitioner, using her knowledge base along with a lot of trial-and-error experimentation to perfect her own unique blends of essential oils and spices. Like a chemist bent over her test tubes in the lab, Bonnie would spend hours over her bottles in the kitchen.

She still does this today, creating fresh blends every week.

“I found that the finesse of blending and having a product turn out well seems to be a fairly well kept secret,” she says. “Understanding the chemistry was huge for me.”

The more she learned over the years, the more she became convinced of the health

benefits of essential oils. She developed a deep appreciation for them.

“We have this life source in plants that’s hugely made for keeping us well,” she explains. “Oils from plants are antiviral, antifungal; plants behave like wellness systems in the human body, so when we use them they are perfectly matched for us, for our wellness. They’re amazing. It’s a beautiful thing that we have at our fingertips today.

We’re lucky for that.”

Her love of essential oils eventually grew and extended out to other botanical sources of wellness, such as herbs and spices. She began to think that the existence of these things in the world was not just a happy accident, but rather part of a divine plan. “They’re just bad for the body,” she says.

She likes to share her knowledge with others, so she teaches classes, both for private parties in her home and publicly for the local Community Education program. One evening she might be teaching local girl scouts how to make organic lip balm; the next she’s helping nurses obtain continuing education credits with a class on healthy diet and lifestyle changes.

“I love gathering and hosting,” she says.

“The classes are a time of sharing and imparting information, but also of gathering… I believe in empowering people, especially women because they are the ones charged with caring for themselves, children and the home.”

Rustic bouquets add natural flair to wedding celebrations Couples opting to get back to basics, streamline their nuptials and create more intimate and less superficial affairs often gravitate toward rustic celebrations to showcase their ideals. Rustic weddings also may appeal to environmentalists and men and women who want their weddings to be as eco-friendly as possible.

Rustic weddings may include those ceremonies and receptions that take place outdoors or in abodes, such as barns, wineries, castles, or converted silos or town factories. In fact, Bridal Guide says that barn weddings have never been more popular - among both urban and rural couples alike.

Coordinating a rustic wedding may mean letting

go of perceived notions of how everything from food to favors to flowers should be. In fact, one way to describe rustic weddings - and especially the floral arrangements that adorn them - is 'purposely imperfect.'

Rustic wedding bouquets may seem like they were plucked right out of the garden or grabbed through a stroll in a meadow. They're rarely symmetrical or feature the customary flowers of more formal wedding celebrations.

When designing rustic bouquets, florists may keep the stems of wildflowers or other blooms untethered for a relaxed feel. Long stemmed arrangements are quite popular, and trends point toward bouquets that

are loosely tied with raffia, twine, vines and other natural materials rather than more refined ribbon.

Another way rustic bouquets set themselves apart is with the introduction of other elements into the arrangements. Not merely blooms and greenery, rustic pieces may feature twigs, vines, berries, scabiosa pods, ivy, and feathery ferns. The heights of elements in the bouquet are varied, and the bouquets will not have an overly uniform shape. Rustic bouquets are far from pretentious, and brides shouldn't feel that these bouquets are delicate or will fall apart when handled.

When planning a rustic wedding, couples can work with their florists to create bouquets and arrangements that fit with their visions.

Frosting-free cakes the latest trend A new trend is taking hold both in North America and on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean. Cakes are being pared down so that frosting and fondant coverings are now nearly absent from the confections.

They're called 'naked cakes,' and these simplified desserts showcase the texture of the cakes and their fillings. According to culinary experts, the idea for the naked cake came from Christina Tosi, owner of Momofuku Milk Bar. It's an award-winning bakery with locations across the United States and Canada.

Now many other pastry chefs and bakers are hopping on the naked cake bandwagon, with the trend being highlighted by the likes of Martha Stewart and the respected wedding resource The Knot.

Just because these cakes may be short on exterior buttercream doesn't mean they fall flat on flavor or visual appeal. Cakes can be embellished with fresh blooms, gum paste-molded flowers, edible pearls and gems, fresh berries, and much more. The Knot notes many naked cakes are garnished with flavors that are included in the cake, such as chocolate chips, crumbs, cookie dough, or candy sprinkles.

Couples who are stripping down their weddings to include more basics and natural effects may be drawn to these naked cakes. They're also an option for those who find frosting, buttercream and fondant too sweet for the palate. Naked cakes enable the interior flavors to really shine.

Golf outing more than par for the course for Wadena couple

ithout realizing it, I was making it very difficult for my fiance to propose to me. We were leaving for a long weekend getaway on a Wednesday in October, and Greg decided that he would propose to me on Tuesday at the golf course where we met. He asked me the week before if I could golf on Tuesday after work and I said I could. I forgot that I had made an appointment to get my nails done for our weekend. So on Monday I told Greg that I forgot that I had an appointment and I thought it would only take an hour. It took an hour and a half and when I got home I asked Greg if he still wanted to golf and obviously he said yes since he had everything all set up and ready to go.

The day we met we were on hole #5 which is at a T to the fairway of hole #4. There is a row of pine trees on the right side of fairway #4 which separates it from hole #5. I am

a very inconsistent golfer and that day was no exception. I kept hitting my ball into the pine trees which was no where near where I needed to be to get on the

green. I had no idea that this was making Greg very stressed out. At one point he even took his club and hit my ball towards the green but my next hit sent it back into the trees. At this point I saw one of the clubhouse employees standing on the tee box of #5 and I started a conversation with him about what he was doing.

I had no idea that he was bringing stuff out there for Greg to propose. He was trying to hide it, Greg was very nervous, and I was oblivious! So we finally finish with hole #4 and head down the path to the tee box to #5. As we pull up there was a bouquet of roses and a bottle of champagne waiting by the tee box. I was very confused and Greg says let's get out of the cart.

He pulls me in his arms and says "This did not go as planned" and then asks me to marry him.

I thought it was perfect the way it was and of course I said yes.

Invitation protocol The details

Don't use abbreviations. Traditionally, middle names, street information and state names are spelled out.

A card detailing any other information that might be pertinent to your wedding can be enclosed with your wedding invitation. Information such as transportation, directions, lodging and suggestions can be provided on this card.

Registry information is typically included with bridal shower invitations or word of mouth, not invitations.

Reception cards

RSVP cards

If the ceremony and reception are held at the same venue, use “Reception to follow” at the bottom of the invitation. If held at a different location, it should be treated as a separate event. Include a card with the event details.

Host names

The word “and” in between two names usually implies that those people are married. Names of unmarried hosts or guests should be stacked.

The phrase “request the honor of your presence” is usually reserved for a church or place of worship. You can spell it as either “honor” or “honour."

Activities cards

Activities cards outline organized activities, meals, and other events taking place over the course of the days surrounding the wedding.

Information cards

If you are including RSVP cards, make sure to keep the wording consistent with your wedding invitation.

A good rule of thumb for the RSVP date is allowing guests half the time between receiving the invitations and the date of the wedding. So, if you send your invitations eight weeks in advance, set the reply date four weeks from the wedding.

White chalk: If something gets on the wedding dress that simply won’t come out, you can usually mask the stain with chalk.

Lighter: For sealing the edge of frayed ribbons.

White duct tape: Grab a roll of the white tape to fix just about anything.

Lint roller: Especially helpful for the groom and groomsmen’s suits.

Cash: Include some change in case a necessary purchase arises.

Dental floss/toothpicks: You might need it after snacks.

Eye drops: Don’t let red eyes or irritating contacts cause problems.

Extension cord and phone charger(s): Be prepared to make that emergency call or snap a quick photo.

Lotion: It helps tame dry skin patches and flyaway hair.

Toothbrush and toothpaste: Fresh breath is never a bad idea.
