Every year there are incredible records released by independent labels and artists. HONOREES The 2nd Annual 2011 FEMALE HIP-HOP HONORS will take place once again in Los Angeles on May 21, 2011. The Radisson Hotel will play host to the awards ceremony. The event will be a star-studded mega musical show with performances by the nominees, featured major label acts and appearances by film and fashion celebrities. This year we will honor two of the most dynamic women in hip-hop. Our first honoree Roxanne Shante is the 1st female Rapper to pave the way for women to come into the genre. Roxanne Shante was part of a phenomenon that took place in 1984. UTFO's song "Roxanne Roxanne" was a huge hit that year about their attempts to seduce a woman named Roxanne. One night Shante overheard WHBI's Tyrone Williams, Mister Magic, and Marley Marl discussing the fact that UTFO has skipped out on promised appearance. Shante offered to record a dis-record. Her skills seemed up to par despite only being around 14-15 years old. Marley produced and she rapped the song, "Roxanne's Revenge" and it made them both famous. She had a few other hits (written by Big Daddy Kane) like "Have a Nice Day" and also "Go on Girl" from the movie Colors. She also did a duet with Biz Markie in 1986 called "Def Fresh Crew". She also worked with Rick James on a "Loosey's Rap." Other tracks of note were "Payback" and "Freestyle" in 1987. 1990 saw the release of "Big Mama" which took on every other female rapper in the game. Our second honoree is Tenina Stevens (a.k.a. Suga-T) is an accomplished rapstress, songstress, songwriter, actress, producer, educator, businesswoman/CEO and the founder of “Sprinkle Me Fragrances.” In the early years, Suga-T joined her family’s recording label “Sick Wid It Records” as one of four members of the group “The Click.” The group members include Suga’s brothers D-Shot, E-40 and cousin, B-Legit. . Initially, the group released a single entitled “Captain Save A Hoe” and “Billy Bad Ass” to the underground which established a loyal fan base. The group received a national underground following that enabled them to sale 250,000 units independently. Furthermore, this positioned Suga-T and “The Click” as highly respected musical figures with an enormous and loyal following; and a body of credits that has built her own individual following. She’s also highly recognized nationally due to a joint-venture between “Jive Records” and “Sick Wid It Records.” Their group collectively sold over 10 million copies during

their 7 years with “Jive Records.” Suga-T, then the little sister of “The Click,” became the big sister and now Godmother of Hip Hop. After 15 years in the Music and Entertainment Industry, Suga-T is still holding it down and heading Northern California’s female Hip Hop Movement. Moreover, as a savvy businesswoman, she has worked diligently in front of the camera and behind the scenes during her career and has utilized her popularity and position as a platform to create opportunities for herself and many others. We will also Honor Shawnna with this year Lyrics for Life Award. She was the first female artist signed to Ludacris' Disturbing tha Peace Records. She is a former member of the female Chicago rap duo Infamous Syndicate and she is also the daughter of the blues musician Buddy Guy. She is known for her rapid fire delivery and her sexual themes. She is one of only six female rappers (others being Lauryn Hill, Da Brat, Missy Elliott, Lil' Kim and Remy Ma) to ever have a #1 song on the Billboard Hot 100 with 2003's "Stand Up" with Ludacris. Shawnna is currently signed to T-Pains Nappy Boy Records and slated to release a new LP in 2011.

OUR SERVICES Viral Marketing- Viral marketing is a marketing phenomenon that we use to encourage people to pass along a marketing message voluntarily. Our methods are so different and yet very affective. We partner with Restaurants, Movie Theaters and Nightclubs to really increase your visibility, at an affordable price. We also do CD Flyers. Pra c tic ing And Perf orming Music By Dr. Ande There is a perception that performing and practicing music are two very different activities. I think that the relationship between performing and practicing is deeply intertwined and at a certain level the distinction between the two virtually disappears. At some point in a musical career, performing itself becomes the greater learning experience. Greatly significant aspect of performing is the tremendous energy that is experienced during a live performance in front of a receptive audience. The true purpose of developing mechanical and musical ability becomes evident and the focus of practice sessions is changed. At that point, ironically enough, performing itself becomes the true learning experience because a tremendous energy is experienced during a live performance in front of a receptive audience. The energy of the audience, as perceived or felt by the performer, pushes him to new heights of artistic achievement and practicing becomes preparation to concentrate and enhance that experience; this marks the beginning of the transition from musician to artist. The artist will find new ways of practicing to bring live performances closer to the pure ecstasy of musical expression in all ways. Bringing diverse disciplines such as psychology and other artistic disciplines such as theater and dance will enable the artist-musician to achieve greater control of the instrument and maximize the overall performance itself. This is the true transformation from musician to artist, by developing personal, unique and creative ways of expression. As these progresses, the artist will realize great improvement in concentration, ease of performance and greater synchronicity of body, mind and what professional musicians like to call "soul". As practice is transformed into a more fulfilling and rewarding experience is reached an important step towards scaling the heights of artistic achievement. As music is something that the artist enjoys, practice is, in effect, playing music and should always be enjoyed for its own sake. Advertisement

The Radio Corner It is so amazing to me to see artist go into a studio, produce a master piece, and then think his or her work should be promoted at zero cost. Music is a business and you have to pay your dues it is more than making a song and blowing up today or tomorrow. If it were that simple then the entire mainstream population of artist has been had. All the promotions, photo shoots, shows, promotion cost, manager and travel expenses, were done in vein. If there is a new formula for success please share it with us. The last time I checked it was 90% business and 10% talent, you have to pay someone even if know quite a bit. MC Hammer was a true entrepreneur; he did what he knew how to do by going to the clubs having the DJ spin his music, then he and his group would perform. He did not go to the club and hand his track to the DJ and say this track is “hot” and start dancing by himself. Wouldn’t find that a bit conceited? What he did was performed with his group to his music. By now you should see where I am going with this; it is called marketing, promotions and advertising. Why is it called marketing, promotions and advertising? Because no one knew Hammer until he and his group showed up and did their thing (promotions) he marketed his music by having Slamin' Fat Beatz 28

the DJ spin his music, people would come down see a good show and purchase his records from his trunk. Today it doesn’t work like that due to the home recording studios that have made the playing field level. The industry is saturated and you can go to any major city and see mixt tape artist or artists that give their music away for free. If you are giving your music away for free you are saying my music has no value. Hammer had to hustle so he could get his music out there, he knew his work was valuable and he did what worked during those times. We all know Hammer lost his empire for a lack of knowledge; his hustle was great but he himself did not harness all the business skills he needed so at the end of the day he failed. As Independent artists it is you responsibility to learn how to become successful businessman or women If you want to succeed. I know some Independent artists who are doing very well by themselves without a label. I hope this article will cause you to think more about marketing, advertising and promoting your product for compensation. Don’t just send your music to the radio stations and expect the DJ to do it all for you, learn the business. Let me mention the key word is managing to understanding the Industry completely then you can say you have arrived.
