Approach towards the design was to bring the chaos from around ,into the site. The chaos that people enjoy and have fun in.

spill-out spaces

The design focused on forming a clear blockage towards the noise, pollution, traffic and dirt, thereby using stone walls on the facade as an imagery to the same.

The ground floor was the most crucial part of the design , as it formed the major reason to attract people to the site. The pedestrian access into the site was not restricted to one, but to 4 entrances, with one large one in the center, adding to the curvilinear periphery of the site. The back of the design was kept open facing the vegetation. The site periphery was curvilinear, hence the ground floor spaces along the periphery were placed at an angle such that it provides a dynamic experience as people walk along the road of the site. The dynamic view was enhanced by the use of glass on one face and stone on another of the surfaces. It helped add to the concept of blocking the chaos.

circulation core

angular spaces responding to curvilinear periphery

The main ideology used in the structure of the design was to provide multiple voids and buffer spaces for people to gather and spill out.

glass and stone responding to curvilinear periphery

While the concept of blocking chaos was intact the element of fun was added using the void spaces, which even enables the viewers from the metro to get a glance of the building at various angles, creating emotions of curiosity.

12 retail stores circulatory core anchor store ancillary functions

The circulatory core is the only one that spans all the floors and is a binding element that acts as a datum to hold all spaces together. It also has a fun factor to it as it looks into the central open space having a play of staircase and corridors. The facade deatil shows the idea of blocking chaos using the strong material like stone . The detail of glass and wooden lintel adds to the idea of inviting and being transparent and fun to the users.

Workshop

The community comprises of three types of houses, with each house having its own workspace. The housing typology is inspired from Japanese traditional housing. Therefore, Each workspace has a portico beside it , which serves the purpose of buying and selling or just a space to interact with community members. Emphasis on movement through street by the inward and outward placement of houses , forming transition from narrrower to larger volumes of spaces resulting to a dymanic experience.

portico intereractive buying and selling open facade

The terrace and portico facing the street adds a sense of openess to the facade of the house. It adds to the volume of the street and makes it more breathable. The houses are designed with a combination of modern and traditional type of housing , therefore the combiation of wood and stone are the choice of materials. The idea of butterfly roof was brought about , binding ll the houses as one , and bringing in unity in the community.

The terrain is dense with woods, and is situated on the outskirts of the city. design The design breif calls for a proposal of a requirements habitation for four people made from 9 volumes of 3m*3m*3m auuming context and user characteristics. concept The big idea was to make use of the features around the site and therefore provide maximum open spaces looking towards the woods and responding to the lake. The aim was to design spaces that meet the day to day requirement of the users.

27 location

Nirvana Film Studio , Indira Nagar , Bangaluru,Karnataka.

abstract

The Site is situated in the centre of the city with two sides looking at surrounding building and the other two looking at a park and the woods.

design requirements

The Idea of the project was to learn about the Bauhaus style and how it could be applied on a particular plan of a building.

concept

The basic concept was to make use of the features around the site and therefore provide maximum open spaces looking towards the woods and providing a buffer for the faces overlooking the other buildings. Therefore the office building has a large deck facing the park and woods , on the other hand it has a buffer of trees from the buildings on the other side , provide by indoor garden.

surrounding buildings

Bauhaus, was a German art school operational from 1919 to 1933 that combined crafts and the fine arts, and was famous for the approach to design that it publicized and taught. Core objective was a radical concept: to reimagine the material world to reflect the unity of all the arts. The Building also has a simple geometric pattern whch was the key of Bauhaus Buildings with no ornamentation.

The horizontal and vertical surfaces combined to form an asymmetry and yet having dynamic equillibrium. The facade of the building follows a pattern where the horizontal and vertical surfaces balance each other.

Bauhaus buildings followed a grid pattern in which the plan or elevation were made propotionality yet having certain assymetrical elements to it. The assymetry was used to bind the design together. Therefore the assymetry is maintaned by the stairs in the plan , which are later emphasised on the facade.

The ideology of “Form follows Function was implemented in a way that the external facade indicated the fuction.

The building also follows a push-n-pull fashion , like the modern Bauhaus strctures therby enhancing the appearance.

Bauhaus buildings seem to be imbued with a sense of buoyancy, weightlessness and rhythmic mobility which is indicated in the office building with way stilts and walls are placed on the ground floor .

In the office building, thus the facade indicates the function followed. For Example, the workshop is provided with maximum lighting, therefore has a glass facade, whereas storeroom has minimal lighting with just one window .

SMESTER III

The Pavillion is Entitled Yure, a Japane expression for a nomadic habitat movin in the wind, the project is made fro identical wooden pieces, seeking to bl the lines between art and architectu with its organic structural geometry.

From every view, the structure appea different, creating a distinct diversity space. “It offers an organic geometry b a geometric composition of wood sa Kuma.

The bamboo canopy was built for providing a light and organic shelter to the stone benches lining one side of the volleyball court, an area frequented by students. The high tensile strength of the bamboo is critical to maintain the curved sections of the structure. The bamboo easily blends in with the surrounding trees, making the installment look natural.

Space Truss System SMESTER VI

Arch Structure is a type of form active structure system where major load transfer is through cables and stabalisation is based on span. The thrust of an arch is inversely propotional to its rise, for reduction of thrust the arch should be as high as possible.

Form Active Structure SMESTER VI

Compressive and tensile members, arranged in a certain pattern and put together in a system with hinged joints, form mechanisms that can redirect forces, and can transmit loads over long distances Short solid straight lineal members because of their small cross section and length can transmit forces in one direction only
