From Divo with Love Divo Magazine is embarking on a new journey. Many discovered us over the years thanks to our cameo on the award-winning Angolan telenovela Windeck, as well as through the many international contributors who have lended their amazing writing and photography to our pages. Since then this community has shared have supported our creative point of view by reading, sharing or even collaborating with us. We have dedicated ourselves to sharing our view of fashion , design , art and pop culture from our unique celebrating the diversity, discovering hidden gems and aiming to focus on the intersections of fashion and arts that are oftern under-represented, such as our own Luso-African perspective often is. Our commitment to sharing diverse perspective of the world is reaffirmed with our growing number of dynamic collaborators various continents and cultures. We will also be taking a deeper dive into many of the matters that are essential to the lifestyle of the 21st century man. In an increasingly globalizing lifestyle we have all become citizens of the world and Divo aims to further the conservation around the male universe for socially savvy men and all those who want to dive deeper into our universe, learn, grow and glow with us. Issue #22 is a new beginning which is why we want to focus on a subject that is still taboo amongst many men everyone else around them: The Body. The relationship with the Male Body by both men and women, as well as non-binary individuals is a very complex issue that often overlooked. While western and westernized societies have spent the past few decades trying to empower body positive images, most of these images are not of men. And by men we are talking of men of all shapes, sizes, ethnicities and social identities . The Divo team hopes this will start off this great conversation and ongoing journey with the incomparable Josh “The Fat Jew” Ostrovsky, a.k.a The Fat Jewish, on our cover shot by visual artist and photographer Bubi Canal, and a dynamic team of collaobrators in the U.S., Portugal, Italy, Angola and South Africa sharing stories about fashion, lifestyle, wellness and travel through words and imagery. 06 divo

“I am very proud of my culture and heritage. To be able to represent being Afro-Latina on a level that is so mainstream is beyond amazing to me.” This is Amara La Negra’s thought on what it feels like to be in the media today. Having completed a successful season of VH1’s “Love & Hip-Hop Miami”, receiving endless press opportunities, and with new music releases and performances slated through the rest of the year, Amara La Negra has become a crossover force that people weren’t expecting. The “Insecure” and “Don´t Do It” singer is known to stay true to herself and be unapologetic about being vocal towards anyone who wants to challenge her culture and who she is. Musically, Amara feels that she is one with her craft and is living in a time where she can have fun with her music and experiment with her creativity. She also expresses that it’s a blessing to be able to showcase her talent and message between both American and international markets. Amara La Negra thanks her fans for her success and says, “They are just as responsible for the levels my career has reached and the degree at which it’s turning. I see my fans as a part of my team as well and am forever grateful to have their suppor.

PERO LIKE : WHY JULISSA CALDERON IS OUR NEW YOUTUBE HERO !
PERO LIKE: PORQUE JULISSA CALDERON É A NOSSA HEROÍNA DE YOUTUBE!
The digital media powerhouse known as Buzzfeed found a true gem when they discovered the extremely talented Julissa Calderon. Currently a producer and actress for Buzzfeed’s “Pero Like” channel, Julissa has quickly acquired a following that has solidified her as a digital star across all forms of social media. This year, Julissa won the “Breakout Creator of the Year” category for the 4th annual Hispanicize TECLA Awards in Miami, Florida, a high honor for Latinos within the digital media and content space. The nomination alone came as a great honor to Julissa, an acknowledgement she credits to her “real” bond with her followers. The thing about Julissa is that she constantly creates content that specifically speaks to her audience while staying true to her Latino voice. She acknowledges the lack of representation in mainstream media for Latinos, especially Afro-Latinos, and she confronts it with no apologies. Julissa’s goal is to make sure her audience sees an authentic side to her that represents Latinos in the purest form. She says, “We are white, brown, and black. We are intelligent. We have amazing food. We work hard and are extremely talented. We are beautiful people with an amazing history. I just want people to truly know US [Latinos]. The real us, not what the media makes us out to be.”

IN THE WORLD OF HIGH FASHION, BIGGER ISN’T ALWAYS BETTER
DIVERSITY NO MUNDO DA ALTA MODA, MAIOR NEM SEMPRE É MELHOR TEXT # BY DECLAN EYTAN PHOTOS # COURTESY OF THE GAP / FOTOS # GENTILMENTE CEDIDAS POR THE GAP
“Diversity” seems to be the fashion industry’s buzz word of choice nowadays. Within the context of race and ethnicity that is. Though an increasing level of racial inclusion
on the runways is reason for optimism, there still is an elephant in the room: body diversity. Not just for her, but especially for him. Save for the likes of Ashley Graham, the number of female models dubbed “plus size” who’ve managed to take their careers to the upper echelons remains limited. In case one thought that was reason enough for concern, keep in mind that the number of plus size superstars on the male end of the model spectrum is even worse: zero. Despite a push by the likes of IMG to promote up-and-coming plus size or “brawn” models like Zach Miko or Nemar Parchmennt, Men´s fashon runways and campaigns tell a different story. During the previous Men´s Fashion Season only one shoe featured a plus sized male model. ASOS´London Fashion Week show was the only major runway show featuring a plus size model, Trey Campbell. Nonetheless, this shouldn’t come as a surprise. Considering models are to wear what’s on offer, and what’s on offer, typically doesn’t come in extended sizes within the realm of high fashion. According to research by global business intelligence firm Ibis World, the size of the men’s plus size market in the United States alone, is good for an estimated $1 billion on an annual basis. Additional research by the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive Kidney Disease, shows how over the past three decades the percentage of American males that are overweight or obese has steadily risen to over 70% - and that’s only Stateside. Nonetheless, supply doesn’t seem to satisfy demand especially for luxury brands. Even if a few high-end brands – including Ralph Lauren which offers its Big & Tall range of men’s apparel – are inclusive of a full-figured male audience in terms of sizing, an overwhelming

This begs the question: why? Perhaps it comes down to a financial bottom line: offering bigger sizes means a larger quantity of fabrics is required, which equals higher production costs. Or is it simply the mean girl syndrome many believe the fashion industry is coping with, setting boundaries when it comes to who may access “the cool group” for the sake of image. Whatever the reason, “This is not for you,” is how many would interpret the lack in extended sizing. While more commercial outlets such as The GAP and ASOS have new campaigns showcasing a size-inclusing product offering for men, they are still very few major brands catering to this numerous segment of consumers. Despite the fact that a significant portion of individuals which possess the type of spending power to make or break a fashion house, have bodies which aren’t compatible with the available merch in store. Thin may be in, but does that even matter when it is money that talks? u
THIN MAY BE IN, BUT DOES THAT EVEN MATTER WHEN IT IS MONEY THAT TALKS?

It’s 8:30am. I’m back from the run, I look at the selfies taken to start my day online. Active mornings, mine are! (or not…) Sleepy face, bad mood, unbearable cold, just wanted to stay in bed, to top it all my hair held those annoying bends.
Operation Avatar or operation #what-i-should-be, touch up here, fade the under-eye circles, remove that hair curl, a little eye spark and cover that pimple caused by the party-filled weekend. Style the neck and I’m ready to be shared. Perfect. Happy. Energetic. 8:30 and already so healthy. And I keep going with Operation Avatar, with the last retouching application, which is the best and so easy, because I have so much to share: the laugh with spinach on the tooth while eating soup with my nephew; the bad haircut from the porch in that village where the hair dryer would stop every time the hair dresser’s mom turned on the fryer; and the bored face at the Ibi24 divo
za party that seemed like the best party of the year and ended up being such a bore. Oh my! And what about the ones from the US! Urgent retouch before sharing! I gained 10 kilos; after all, nobody wants to remember weight gain! We need to delete, retouch, reinvent, look beautiful, polished, happy. We need to always be seen beautiful, polished, happy. After all, this is a social body, a body for sharing. Years later, I go over the selfies shared on my time line. I don’t know who it was, how it was, where it was. I don’t know who I was, how I was, where I was. Because the (real) body has a memory, tells stories, gives us the time, the chronology, tells us about us. And when we systematically edit ourselves, we are one (or several) avatar, with no identity, with expressions, features, beauty trends and patterns dictated by someone who we have never seen, never heard, nor know who it is or why he (she) dictates what is being dictated. We sidestep what really counts: who we are and how we are, who we were and why we were. We lose the memory (ies),
LIFE & STYLE u 8h30 da manhã. Manhãs activas, as minhas!
we defragment our identity, we no longer are a continuum that helps us understand and accept what led us to what we are today, what connected us to others, the emotions of every experience, our biography and our real time line. And what for … after all? Why? And when it will really be us? Live, with the unpredictability of life, of being a person? Of seeing ourselves and of being seen just the way we are? Social networks created this pressure in people who use them, applying filters to correct imperfections, sharing the best of us with the world and hide what is not perfect. Social networks installed the fear of being ourselves when we face the world, fear of not fulfilling what we believe others expect of us, of not conforming to the established beauty standards and which have been imposed on us, standards filled with perfections, corrections, leaving no room for us to be ourselves, human, true, unique and for us to accept how we are. u
Ai!

excellence led by the Argentinean Alan Faena, former fashion designer and presently hotel visionary and his billionaire partner, the Russian-British-American Len Blavatnik, this award receiving luxury hotel marks a revolution in the industry. The Faena Hotel Miami Beach is part of the Faena District, an innovative and emerging architectural complex which includes the millionaire condominium Faena House, shopping, entertainment and the artistic center Faena Forum. Considered one of the most desired destinations in the heart of Miami Beach, the project includes structures authored by the prestigious architects and designers Foster+Partners, Rem Koolhaas + OMA, Bazmark and Raymond Jungles. The concept for Faena Hotel Miami Beach was inspired by the original building’s essence, the old Saxony Hotel, built in 1947, that had already reached cutting edge trends of glamour in past decades. Renovation started in 2013 and the interior design received collaboration of the movie duo Baz Luhrmann and Catherine Martin, responsible for production of the movies Moulin Rouge and The Great Gatsby.

Abundant and detailed ornamentation, full of color, dominant patterns and textures, extends to the 168 private suits and common areas. Among the most emblematic ambiences is the ample entry lobby, also designated Cathedral for its grandiosity, and the restaurants Los Fuegos by Francis Mallmann and Pao by Paul Qui. In the lobby there are 8 murals by the artist Juan Gatti, titled The Way to Futopia, and illuminating one of the dining halls there is a piece by Alberto Garruti. Pimentão # Paprika
Essential in portuguese and spanish “cuisine”, it’s made of dried red bell pepper and/or some dried red chillies that can also be smoked and it’s mandatory when you want to make a “paella”. It’s the “all god” of spices in Hungary (have you tried “goulash”?). There are so many varieties that you should try them all.

For all of those that say that don’t know how to cook it’s because you (still) haven’t found the most important add-on to any kitchen: a good collection of spices! With them we can express ourselves in what we cook and for that we just have to know them, try them and not be afraid to use them. I believe that we should spice up our life and (as such) here is our favourite spices’ list and some tips on how to use them.

Cardamomo Verde # Green Cardamom Originally from the moist forests in India and Sri Lanka, its sweetness gives it the ability to be used in savoury or sweet recipes. It’s citric aroma goes incredibly well with ginger and lemon. Try this unbeatable mix in jams, chutneys, biscuits and poultry.
Chipotle Probably one of my favourites spices ever, chipotles are mexican by nature,“capsicums” (similar to red bell peppers) at their genus but in fact they are simple smoked dried “jalapeños”. We can find them dried or canned and personally i think that this smoked aromatic spicy flavour fits perfectly with octopus, shrimps and mussels, but it’s up to you to decide!
Cominhos # Cumin This one is a spice full of life, peppery by nature and essential in Middle Eastern and Mexican gastronomy. Next time you make “chilli con carne” for your friends at home please dont’ forget to add some (and some chipotles as well!)

Za’atar It’s a mix of sesame, sumac, basil, oregano and hyssop it’s the blend every Lebanese have at home. It’s herbal aromatic flavours goes well with fish, cheeses, yoghurts and labneh. Just a sprinkle and success will be knocking at your door!
Raz el Hanout It means “the top of the house” or the “top shelf” mix, which means that for marroqui people there isn’t any better, and for me either. A blend that have so many spices that each family has its own recipe: cumin, cloves, coriander, greek fennel, turmeric, cinamon and rose petals are the most common ones. Every lamb dish gets elevated with this mix but i like it with carrots and goat’s cheese.
Shichimi Togarashi This japanese mix have “sansho” (a japanese chilli), burned Orange zest, sesame, ginger, poppy seeds and seaweed and it’s usually used in stocks, soups and noodles. I like it with mayo and poultry and it’s easily found in every asian supermarket.

Sumagre # Sumac This middle eastern purple red poder is the result of dried fruit that is grinded and used in many mixes and recipes. Its citric and lemony flavour allows you to use it on meats without them cooking, instead of lemon juice and its citric acid. I love it with lamb and in my grilled apricot chutney.
Garam Masala Originally from India, this blend have cardamom, black pepper, cinamon, cumin and cloves. It’s so aromatic and sweet that you need just a little bit to make you travel to other side of the globe. Besides black tea and milk, can you guess the other important ingredient from the famous indian “Chai”?
Pimenta Pepper If it’s black, red, green, bergamot or sichuan, pepper is essential in most of recipes. If you are one of those that use powdered pepper (the one that tastes like nothing) and when you use it you’re crazy mad hitting on the bottom of the flask thinking that you’re on a 90’s ketchup TV comercial, stop everything. Go buy a grinder, some black pepper corns at some good supermarket, try them freshly grinded and then text me.

METAMORPHOSIS OF THE BODY:
FROM SERENITY TO RESTLESSNESS
A METAMORFOSE DO CORPO DA SERENIDADE AO DESASSOSSEGO: TEXT # BY JOÃO TELMO
Let’s admit, once and for all and without reservations, that the way we expose, talk about and, above all, see and look at our bodies, became different. It has changed. It has been adulterated. The paradigm has shifted. The body theme has transitioned from simple
talking point to one of the zeitgeisty issues that produces more debates, conflicts and controversy than any other. And it is, presently, object of transversal discussion in all cultures. The incidence took place, undoubtedly, in post-modern western societies, but its inherent tentacular nature ended up becoming globally infectious. There has never been a time in the History of Humanity when individuals, regardless of ethnicity, religion, sexuality, education or economic status, were so voraciously worried with their bodies. And those of others. There has never been a moment in social theory, such as witnessed today, where the barometer of scrutiny and bodily inspection reached this frontier. But how did it get there? How did we reach this state of unmistaken restlessness with respect to our bodies? We could endlessly name the parts and ingredients contributing positively and/or negatively to turning this obsession regarding our bodies into something inconveniently tangible but let us identify the protagonists. First off, we can point to the pungent establishment which since the late 70s has given prece-

dence to the body in detriment of the mind. A culture that objectifies it, places it on a pedestal and that permanently and relentlessly resorts to broadcasting pictures of unattainable beauty ideals, which are, ultimately, toxic. Take the case of the fitness video boom (Jane Fonda launched the first one in April 1982), and the subsequent fixation on gym visits and a fit body. The inaccessible diets and respective books, the guerrilla marketing for light, biologic and gluten free products, and the obsession with the adjective healthy (look at the success and following of TV programs such as Biggest Loser, Extreme Makeover, Botched, among so many others), plastic surgeries multiplying and climbing exponentially on our priority list, to the last stage: models being excluded from runways because they do not fit the current body aesthetics and the number of actors unemployed due to preference for models and pretty faces. On the other hand, in the last decade the intrusion and invasion by social networks has encouraged, timidly at first but unashamed nowadays, the way we approach, observe and show our bodies. Exposing and revealing our bodies has become a screenplay, a narrative, an embellishment. The search and mastery of tools like Photoshop, photo editing apps and the endless abundance of filters and enhancers has contributed, gradually, to us starting to use our bodies as ornaments and no longer instruments. This can be called the curse of self-portraiture: social networks have instilled an anxiety, a restlessness and the implementation of unattainable and toxic beauty ideals. And along with all of this came the drastic shift in behavior, the amplification of body shaming, food disturbances, body dysmorphic disorders, obesity’s social stigma and the ambition of becoming something we are not. Within this vortex of the search for the perfect body (whatever that means) and the ambivalent self-objectification, there are starting to appear, however, and even if timidly, but more and more widespread, platforms that promote counter culture ideas which arrive to destroy these body myths and encourage body positivity. Plus size models on fashion runways, international campaigns against body shaming, are calling attention for the fact that not everything organic and biological is always best and vice-versa. Even programs such as “Revenge Body” by Khloe Kardashian and series as “Insatiable” on Netflix. Nonetheless, it is not yet possible to build a precise and detailed analysis of the impact such initiatives will 48 divo

From here an Angolan is speaking to you … athlete, because I´m a son of Africa and therefore, descendant of slaves… (they too “athletes”), with muscular body … fruit of the whiplashes endured by our ancestors and … determined. Not just because … but because the world rushes and time doesn’t stop. Much less in Africa…
(There’s also an explanation for the muscular body: year after year of jogging. Yes, it may not seem that way, but that sport started in Africa when colonizers arrived and only after was it taken to Europe and America. Together with their, our “athletes”). During a World Cup year, even if I wanted to … I wouldn’t be able to talk about anything else than … soccer. Not because of being a fanatic, and I am …but because of the benefits of the sport itself. It’s a team sport: when I think of soccer, I think about the dynamics of a family, where all members have a function and where each function is adapting, according to new times, new needs, new realities after all. And just like family, this is how I see Africa. Yes, it is. 20 Players on the field, chasing one ball. better living conditions (the ball). It’s not to soon and not too late to view Africa this way, since Africans are today better prepared for the ups and downs of the new times, of globalization. Because we have the best conditions? No. But precisely because we lack them, that is the reason why today our capability is superior. Our resilience is unequivocal and our history’s voice is louder and louder, at deafening volume really. That’s for the best. It’s time. Or better said, the hour has come. Because, after all, Africa is just one more continent in this whole that we call Planet Earth and together, only together, is it possible to turn our space into our home. Because we are all equal… (because within our equality there is difference that needs and must be understood and accepted), because we are all brothers e because together, Chinese, Nigerians, San Tomeans, Indians or Austrians, we are stronger. In Africa, in Europe, in Asia or in America. Because what do all those continents have in common? Your safe harbor. The planet. Our planet. What sets us apart from the whole universe. Earth. In your body of work you show a lot of skin. Have you always been this confident about sharing your physique with the world? Yeah, I want bigger men feel like they should show it off. If you’ve got it, you should flaunt it. If you’re at the gym all the time, and you have all this time to work out, you probably don’t have that many friends. Letting yourself go and looking mediocre is beautiful. So I’ve always been down to show it off, and I think everyone else should too. What do you think about Kate Moss saying, “nothing tastes as good as skinny feels?” I guess she’s never drank gravy, because gravy is really delicious. I know you’re not supposed to drink it—you’re supposed to put it on turkey—but you know, that stuff tastes really good. That stuff tastes better than skinny feels. How did you start your modeling career? Was that a goal when you were younger? Not necessarily professionally, but I saw all these plus-size women who were just killing the game. Everyone was looking really good, feeling proud of their bodies, and I was like what’s up with the big boys who have the bodies like Shrek? Someone needs to represent for the bigger men. I was able to start getting some exposure on that, and I think some people have been inspired by it. I get messages on Instagram saying, “thank you for making me feel good about my body.” You don’t want to be so giant and fat that it’s unhealthy, that you have to ride around in a motorized scooter, but just feel proud about the fact that you’re kind of thick. Fucking work it. [Modeling] wasn’t a goal, but I think I have inspired some other people, so it’s really been worth it. Shaved or unshaved? Unshaved. I think shaving is gross. My friend was showing me his balls the other day. They were smooth like two eggs. I thought that was weird. I keep it way natural. You’re a model, a performer, and also a journalist. How does that inform the way you select new projects? At this point, I’m trying to make cool stuff with my friends. I have people who back what I want to do. 66 divo

Aquilo sabe melhor do que sentir-me magro. Natural. Acho o aspecto depilado nojento. No outro dia um amigo mostrou-me as bilhas. Estavam lisas como 2 ovos. Achei aquilo esquisito. Mantenho as minhas bem naturais. If you’re going to make fun of people, just make sure it’s equal opportunity. Make sure you’re offending people equally. Either don’t offend anyone or just offend everyone. Then everybody feels in on the joke. I think people trust me to make fun of them because they know that first and foremost I’m going to make fun of myself. I’m constantly talking about how I have a small penis, you know, my penis looks like a champagne cork…. They know I’m going to make fun of myself first and then they want me to make fun of them. And then I make fun of everybody…so everybody feels included. You’ve gotta shit on everyone.

You studied journalism at SUNY Albany. Is journalism still of interest to you? Not so much like journalism, but I do a lot of writing. I wrote a book two years ago called Money Pizza Respect which sold pretty well. I actually just drove across the country, and went to 300 different strip clubs, and I’m reviewing all the food. These strip clubs have all this different food that they serve; they have these crazy menus. So I went on the road with a professional food writer, someone who takes food really seriously. We went to almost 300 clubs and we’re reviewing all the food, and that’s going to be a book. I always try to stay writing. I don’t have as much time as I used to, but hopefully people will find the strip club book.
Tento sempre manter-me a escrever.
If you were to imagine yourself in another universe, who would you be? I kind of feel maybe I was born in the wrong body…I don’t know…tough question!
Any guilty pleasures on your playlist? Speaking of being born in the wrong body, I have the musical taste of like a fucking very lit 16-year-old girl. My whole shit is just like, Miley Cyrus, Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, so much fucking Harry Styles…like I’m basically a 14-year-old girl on a sugar rush at a sleepover. I love that. I’m either listening to that, or I’m listening to Norwegian black metal. I want it to be really, really violent and extreme, like some German death metal, or I want it to be Taylor Smith. No in between.
In Divo magazine, we like to shine a light on positive male role models. Who has been a positive male role model to you, and how has he affected your life? I would say The Rock, that guy is fucking great. He’s so good to his fans; he really appreciates people. He does what I do with the internet in a different way. I meet a lot of black-metal teenagers who want to do some crazy shit with me, and he meets up with people from the internet too. He has a real life and he’ll meet up with fans from the internet. He’s constantly connecting with people and inspiring people. That guy is really, really great. As you’ve noticed your work influences so many people, how does that change the way you work? It doesn’t. It just lets me know to keep going. I have kids email me—and I had never intended for any of this to 70 divo

I never realized anyone would ever be helped by it. So it just lets me know to keep going, to keep pushing doing what I do. If what I’m doing is helping someone in some way, I’m down, that’s fucking great.
The idea of appropriation had been a bit of a buzzword lately. In your work, you parody or pay homage to different references. How do you deal with this age in which people often don’t understand what is homage vs. appropriation? Everyone just needs to chill out, honestly. People are just like, every day, like what the fuck, what is everybody mad about on the internet today? People are just curious…that’s what art is. People appropriate my shit all the time. It doesn’t matter. It’s all just part of this giant internet community. We’re all having a good time. People just need to smoke a joint. How about your passion for winemaking? Where did that come from? Initially I got into it because I’ve always loved wine, but wine is so fucking serious. Everyone is swirling it around, smelling it. That’s why I fell in love with rosé, the floody cousin of wine. Rosé is not taken so seriously. It doesn’t matter. As long as it’s fucking cold, and it tastes pretty good…I always wanted to put it in cans. I want to make rosé kegs. I want wine parties to be crazy. Jacuzzis and hot tubs filled with rosé. Wine should be fun. If you want to be serious about it, to talk about the notes of leather and apricot, what vineyard it came from in Portugal, that’s fucking cool with me, but I also want wine to be fun. It gets you drunk and it tastes really good. That’s how I fell in love with it. No one is making wine a good time. No one is trying to turn up on wine. So we throw crazy parties. We’re the top-selling rosé in a can in the U.S. People are interacting with wine differently. They’re really going crazy. They’re having a really good time. They’re making bad decisions, getting each other pregnant. Stuff like that. I just wanted to make sure there was some fun wine stuff. Some people who like wine but don’t like wine culture. “Then everybody feels in on the joke. I think people trust me to make fun of them because they know that first and foremost I’m going to make fun of myself” no one had ever really put it in a can and given it the heart of a party. We were able to really let people let loose with wine. So I think that the can symbolizes a whole new generation. Especially for millennials. They don’t want to go to a dinner party. They don’t want to talk about a Barolo with a big body, you know, all that shit. They want to get fucking drunk. The can made that feel acceptable. And that’s the thing I’m most proud of.
Are your beverages available everywhere? Yes, we’re at Walmart, Target, grocery stores everywhere, you can get the shit absolutely anywhere. I want to get to that Mariah Carey level, you know, for a man. You go into your hotel room and you’re making outrageous demands. There’s got to be a canoe filled with guacamole, and then you get there and you’re like, “who the fuck put this canoe filled with guacamole in here” and you fire someone…. In order to be a diva, you’ve got to inspire millions of people, then you can also get to be a nightmare. You can start to get really outlandish. I’m hoping to get to that level where I can start being truly ridiculous. You’ve got to level up, you’ve got to get there. Any advice for people to be true to themselves? You’ve got to care about people, be compassionate, but you’ve also got to not give a fuck about what people think about you. You’ve got to go the fuck off. Live your fucking truth. At the end of the day, you’re a skeleton covered with meat on a rock—the Earth— twirling through outer space. Nothing matters. You’re doing great. Stop giving a fuck. u 74 divo

Vive a tua verdade. Nada importa. Estás muito bem. Manda foder tudo. u

happiness is you THE SECRET TO
O SEGREDO PARA A FELICIDADE SOMOS NÓS PRÓPRIOS TEXT # BY DECLAN EYTAN
When life gives you lemons, make lemonade. Easier said than done, or easier done than said? How we deal with life’s hurdles
– and whether or not we experience them as such – remains a personal choice in the end. It’s up to us to determine if the glass is half full or half empty. Whether or not rejection is a form of protection that keeps us from going down the wrong path. And if - as Einstein was famously quoted saying - in the middle of difficulty lies opportunity. In recent years we’ve witnessed a surge in the number of those with the job description of “life coach.” The latter would not have been possible had it not been for an increase in demand. We’re all trying to win in life. And winning requires coaching. Winning requires strategy. Going by the law of attraction, that means that focusing on all things positive will multiply that same energy, whilst paying attention to the negative will have the opposite effect. In the year 2017 former Google X Chief Business Officer Mo Gawdat, wrote his book Solve For Happy: Engineer Your Path To Joy. The unexpected death of his

21-year-old son, due to a preventable medical error during a simple surgical procedure, triggered Gawdat to write his book. The book describes the relation between event and expectation: if an event in life meets your expectations you’re happy. When it doesn’t however – it’s your mind that tells you you’re unhappy. Our default setting at birth is happiness, whereas the mind trick of unhappiness, is a choice. The lesson to be learned from this, per Gawdat, is that occurring events in our life have no power to make us feel unhappy, unless we turn them into a thought and start torturing ourselves. For the former Google X Chief Business Officer that translates into thinking “My son lived a beautiful 21 years,’’ as opposed to “What if I had taken him to a different hospital?.” Losing a job, means the universe has something better for you in store. Heartbreak means you’ve had the privilege to receive and give love. Optimism it seems, is the ultimate weapon to victory. Said victory would be seeing good in every situation. Recognizing one’s happiness at all times, instead of pursuing it. ◆

A morte inesperada

Warm welcome to Bali, the island of the Gods! It’s one of the most beautiful places on Earth, but if you don’t come prepared it can become the exact opposite. Relax, everything will be alright. Just make sure you follow these tips.
Bali people have an easy smile and they approach us without any embarrassment to offer all types of services. The first of course, is the taxi! I offer you here my first warning: taxi drivers that are waiting for you at the airport are the ones asking for more money than deemed reasonable. In Bali everything is negotiable, except for Bluebird taxis, which work with meters. If you haven’t arranged for any type of transportation to the hotel, this will be my recommended form of locomotion to leave the airport, because after the first day: take a motorcycle! AND NOW I’LL FIRE OFF A SERIES OF “BASIC RULES” AND DEBUNK SOME MYTHS WHICH ARE IMPORTANT: • Never drink tap water. Never. There are people who argue you shouldn’t even use tap water to brush your teeth. • Careful with so-called “Authorized Money Changers”. Almost all call themselves “Authorized”, but the fact is that there are many scammers in this place. When you go to exchange money, check the conversion rate and do your own calculation with a calculator as well. Count the money in the presence of the exchanger, because many of these gentlemen have fast hands and remove a bill or two when handing you the money. • Careful with ATM machines. Check that you’re taking money out of a machine that is video surveilled and confirm that the slot for the card is firmly attached to body of the machine. • You can have the ice in drinks. You can eat the fruit. This is a common myth but it is actually safe as long as you’re in a reputable place, obviously. The so called “Bali-Belly” does exist but you’re more likely to catch it from poorly washed spinach or a “house hot sauce” you ate at a dubious Warung. • Say NO to drugs! And I am not kidding. In Bali there is the 80 divo

A chamada “Bali Belly” existe.
