As Autumn’s colorful changes begin to peek out here in North Carolina, I’m reminded that the Caribbean remains a dream-like constant: a place of warmth, joy, and endless tropical essence. It’s a busy season, and with it comes anticipation for the holidays, when our resorts shine with laughter, festivities, and cherished family time. In the meantime, we’re making headway on renovations and rolling out new experiences designed to make every stay more memorable.
One of the people helping shape that future is our new Regional Director of Operations, Maarten Smeets. With experience across cruises and world-class hotels, Maarten brings a hands-on approach and a deep understanding that true luxury is time well spent. His leadership will ensure your time with us is nothing short of perfect. You can get to know him on page 6.
Many of you may know I spent much of my career in food and beverage, and it remains one of my greatest passions. Dining should be a highlight of every trip, and that’s why I’m thrilled about the work we’ve been doing on St. Maarten. In addition to the exciting beachfront guestroom renovations, we’ve introduced two new All-Inclusive packages Signature and Premium—that give guests more flexibility than ever. At Mix, expect a refreshed look and new events for foodies and wine lovers. Gizmo’s and pureocean are also getting fresh new enhancements and menus, just in time for the upcoming holiday season. Across the board, we’re making sure our guests have reasons to indulge, linger, and come back for seconds.
Fun foodie experiences are always available at Divi Village Golf & Beach Resort – check out our chef’s drink-and-tapas pairings on page 11. At Divi Aruba Phoenix, Tower Suite Phase 1 renovations are coming along, while we’ve also commenced the refreshes to Phase 2’s Building A. Chatting with a guest who recently visited Bonaire, I was reminded of why we do what we do. Our guest spoke of how the pristine nature, vibrant colors, and teeming underwater world brought them a refreshed sense of gratitude and peace. It’s easy to take this beauty for granted, but it doesn’t happen by accident. From sustainable practices to conservation initiatives, protecting our islands is a labor of love — something we take very seriously. Learn more about our eco-friendly efforts on pages 14-15.

With over 20 years of international hospitality experience, Maarten has helped launch new brands, lead large teams at sea, and build service cultures across hotels, resorts, and luxury cruise lines. Q: What drew you to Divi Resorts?
Maarten: Divi’s deep roots in the Caribbean, commitment to local communities, and guest-first approach align perfectly with my own values. After years at sea, I felt a strong calling to bring that experience ashore — and joining Divi felt like the natural next step. It’s about delivering authentic, grounded experiences… this time, with both feet in the sand!
Q: What will be your first priority in this role?
Maarten: My first priority is connecting directly with our guests and teams at each resort. I want to immerse myself in day-today operations to see where we can further elevate the experience while staying true to Divi’s warm, authentic spirit. At the same time, I’m eager to explore how we can better engage modern travelers who value authenticity, sustainability, and meaningful experiences.
Q: What do you see as Divi’s biggest strengths?
Maarten: The biggest strength lies in our people. The heartfelt hospitality of our associates is what brings Divi to life each day. Combine that with our breathtaking beachfront locations, and you have something truly special.
Q: You’ve lived and worked all over the world. What excites you about being back in the Caribbean?
Maarten: The people. The Caribbean is a vibrant, colorful blend of cultures, traditions, and hospitality. Before my years at sea, I lived and worked in Aruba, so in many ways this feels like coming home. I’m excited to reconnect with the islands — and to pick up my golf swing again at our nine-hole course in Aruba!
Q: How would you describe your approach to hospitality?
Maarten: Coming from the luxury market, I’ve learned that the ultimate luxury is time — something we never get back.
For me, it’s about crafting experiences where guests feel seen, welcomed, and part of the Divi community. Personal touches, cultural connections, and seamless service are at the heart of what I call “unreasonable hospitality.”
Q: Outside of work, what do you enjoy?
Maarten: I love cooking and spending quality time with my family. I also enjoy running, cycling, and traveling. After visiting over 60 countries, I can say the Caribbean remains one of my favorite places in the world — the warmth, the spirit, and the sense of community are unmatched.

Brenda & Joe Farmer
When we first spoke with the Brenda and Joe Farmer back in 2018, they had just renewed their vows on Eagle Beach for their 35th anniversary. Today, they’re still keeping that tradition alive. In August, the couple celebrated 43 years of marriage, taking part in Aruba’s annual Vow Renewal Ceremony for the sixth year in a row. “We wouldn’t have missed it for anything in the world,” Brenda says.
It’s become a ritual that, along with long beachfront stays, feels like the recipe for everlasting love: a tropical backdrop, uninhibited rest, and time set aside just for each other.
This summer, the Farmers stretched their stay to a record six and a half weeks, thanks to extra Vacation Club points. “It was very, very nice. The time was very useful and relaxing,” Brenda says of the trip they were able to plan a full year in advance. “We did a lot of rest on the beach, restaurants, a little casino, a little bit of everything. The resort is beautiful. They’re doing a lot of upgrades, and it’s still beautiful. I truly have no other destination desire.”
Adventure isn’t far from their lives, either. Earlier this year, they spent 40 days exploring Africa, visiting Tanzania and Nairobi, before returning to Aruba’s familiar shores for pure relaxation. For them, travel serves multiple purposes: bold adventures abroad, and blissful, unhurried days on Aruba.
Over the years, the Farmers have seen Aruba transform. “There’s new people, new hotels, restaurants, and even electric scooters now,” Brenda notes. Yet the best parts of the island are still the same. “Since it’s a beachfront resort, you get to see the sunrise and sunset every day. And it’s still just so peaceful — you can fall asleep right there on the beach.”
The couple enjoys supporting local eateries downtown while also indulging in the resort’s offerings: beachfront dining, the pools, and the new Wave Shack pizzeria. “Aruba has a little something for everybody,” Brenda says. “Movies, clubs, music, fresh and delicious
food — you name it. Whoever you are, there’s something for you here.”
That flexibility supports their go-with-theflow vacation style. “In our retirement, we are intentional about relaxing, enjoying life, and just having fun! We don’t schedule anything. We just decide what we want to do that day. Maybe we grill at the resort, maybe we walk downtown for lunch. Whatever floats our boat that day, that’s what we do.”
Community plays a big role, too. Joe especially looks forward to his annual tradition of walking over to Divi Village Golf & Beach Resort every Tuesday morning for the putt-putt tournaments, where he reconnects with friends he’s made over the years. The pair loves to mingle at Divi Village’s Tuesday Manager’s cocktail party as well, after attending Monday’s party at Phoenix!
The Farmers also credit the Divi team for making each trip special. “The staff take great care of us,” Brenda says. “And the renovations at Phoenix are beautiful. Pearl is doing a fantastic job overseeing the upgrades; we’re excited to see it all come together.” They appreciate special President’s Elite perks like dining discounts, early check-in, late checkout when it’s available, and personal touches from the concierge team (a special shoutout to Michelle and Charlotte).

Ingredients:
1½ oz tequila Añejo
1½ oz lime juice
1½ oz hibiscus syrup
1 oz grapefruit soda (plus more for topping)
Dehydrated citrus for garnish
Make it: Shake tequila, lime juice, hibiscus syrup, and grapefruit soda. Strain into rocks glass. Top with extra grapefruit soda and garnish.

Glassware: Rocks glass
Ingredients:
2 oz bourbon
1 oz simple syrup
6 dashes bitters
Juice of 1 lime wedge
Dehydrated citrus for garnish (smoke optional)
Make it: Stir bourbon, simple syrup, bitters, and lime juice. Strain over a large ice cube and garnish; add smoke if desired.

This August, Divi Aruba Phoenix came alive with wagging tails and happy smiles during a heartwarming fundraiser in support of the Snoop Doggy Foundation. Guests enjoyed a lively afternoon of bingo with win fun prizes like a dinner for two. Everyone got to meet and snuggle adorable puppies up for adoption, shop Snoop Doggy merchandise, and enjoy tasty treats — all in support of the foundation’s mission to teach children kindness, empathy, and the responsibilities of pet ownership.
Team members came together one September morning to help keep our beautiful shoreline clean and inviting. Along Palm Beach, the group collected debris along the beach, showing our commitment to sustainability and community pride.

Divi Flamingo Beach Resort was proud to host the SeaSmart group, consisting of teens and young adults, followed by an all-ladies group, who took part in an extensive dive program. Several earned their dive certifications with Divi Dive and joined activities such as a 3-day Fish Identification workshop, a session with Sea Turtle Conservation Bonaire, and a manta ray presentation. The experience combined education, adventure, and a deeper appreciation for Bonaire’s marine life.
SAVING SEA TURTLES AT DIVI FLAMINGO
When a resort guest noticed something that looked like a ping-pong ball on our beach, we immediately knew: sea turtle nest! We discovered the nest and promptly called our friendly local Sea Turtle Rescue team, who helped us safely mark and fence-off the nest!
KIDS ‘N KO DAY CARE VISIT DIVI FLAMINGO
Divi Flamingo Beach Resort was filled with laughter and joy as we welcomed the children of Kids ‘N Ko Day Care for a fun-filled day! Our team members wowed the little ones with face painting, the kids played in the resort playground, and everyone enjoyed tasty snacks and a delicious lunch at pureocean. It was a day of smiles, creativity, and community spirit, and we’re proud to share these special moments with our Bonaire family.
