Dads typically love steak, so this Father’s Day, go ahead and shower him with some love straight off the grill. You can make the day even more memorable by sharing the grilling experience together.

In fact, it may be the perfect chance to teach your old man a thing or two with these tips from Omaha Steaks Executive Chef Grant Hon.

Choose Your Protein

Selecting quality protein is the starting place for an exceptional grilled meal. For example, the ribeye is the most well‑marbled steak, meaning it’s super juicy, rich with beefy flavor and excellent on the grill.

Prepare the Grill

Always start with clean grill grates. Heat your gas grill to high or start your charcoal 10‑15 minutes before you grill. Dip a paper towel in oil using tongs and oil your grill grates before adding steaks for a great sear.

Prepare the Meat

Pat steaks dry with a clean paper towel and season them before they hit the grill. You can’t go wrong with simple sea salt and cracked pepper, but creative recipes like this Dukkah Rub can add a special twist.

Sear and Crust

Cook steaks directly over your heat source to get a tasty, crunchy sear on the outside of the steak. This is where the best flavor comes from, and it offers a delicious contrast to the rich, juicy inside of the cut.

Control Your Cook

Keep the grill cover closed as much as possible to maintain a temperature of around 450 F. This helps lock in flavor and prevent flare‑ups. Remember the marbling on a ribeye means more fat, which melts during cooking. This is a good thing, but you may experience more dripping or flare‑ups if you’re used to grilling leaner steaks.

To minimize the need to open the grill cover, determine the amount of time you’ll need to reach your desired doneness then use the 60‑40 grilling method. Grill 60 percent on the first side then 40 percent after you turn the steak over for an even cook.

Let it Rest

A resting time of at least 5 minutes allows steak juices to redistribute for the best eating experience. A foil tent can help regulate temperature during the resting period.

Garnish and Flavor

Whether you’re grilling vegetables, sauteing onions or adding a different kind of sweet or savory topping, just before you serve is the right time to garnish your steak.

Tasty Toppers

Once you pull a juicy steak away from the flame, there’s only one way to make it better: toppings that create a true taste explosion. When they’re prepared with fresh, premium ingredients, your friends and family may not be able to get enough of these sweet and savory additions. Simply mix them up while your meat is on the grill, or skip a step and rely on Omaha Steaks Toppers to capture the same delicious flavors without the prep work.

Crispy Onions and Jalapenos: Savor a one‑two punch of crispy onions combined with spicy jalapenos for some crunch with a kick.

Summer with pets is fun, but can bring additional safety and health worries.

A recent Rover survey found pet parents are willing to put in the effort and expense to protect their pets.

*Pet parents need confidence that pet sitters and dog walkers are reliable and knowledgeable about summer safety risks.

*Rover provides trusted care, for peace of mind that pets are living their best lives while pet parents are, too.

Summer travel season is ramping up, and for many pet parents, plans are increasingly shaped around one priority: keeping pets safe from seasonal risks.

A new 2026 Summer Safety Survey from Rover found that 88% of pet parents plan summer activities around whether their pets can join them. But alongside more outdoor adventures and travel comes increased concern about seasonal risks, particularly heat‑related illness (32%) and exposure to fleas and ticks (38%).

Those concerns are personal for many pet parents. Nearly half of pet parents say their dog or cat has experienced heat exhaustion or dehydration, yet 64% admit they are not fully confident they know exactly what warning signs to look for.

Safeguard against fleas and ticks

Heading into the summer months, make sure your pet is up to date on your veterinarian’s recommended flea and tick prevention to alleviate this concern. Also keep your yard clear of organic matter, including leaves and clippings, where fleas might hide. If your dog often explores grassy or wooded areas, learn methods for safe tick removal.

How to keep pets safe during summer heat

Heat‑related illness remains one of the biggest summer risks for pets. Despite widespread concern, many pet parents still struggle to identify the early signs of overheating. According to the survey, nearly half (46%) of pet parents report their pet has experienced heat exhaustion or dehydration at some point.

Early warning signs include:

Dogs: Excessive panting, lethargy, confusion or drooling. Severe signs are pale gums, foaming at the mouth or seizures.

Cats: Excessive pacing, panting, grooming, drooling or atypical vocalizations. Severe signs include stumbling, vomiting, loss of consciousness or collapsing.

For early warning signs, give your pet cool (not iced) water to drink, get them in the shade/air conditioning and apply wet towels or cool water to

their head or neck. For concerns about your pet’s symptoms, consult your veterinarian.

96% of pet parents will go to great lengths to keep their dogs and cats safe from heat‑related risks. Ways pet parents care for their dogs and cats

Almost all pet parents (96%) will go to great lengths to keep their dogs and cats safe from heat‑related risks. Their most common practices include:

Keeping indoor temperatures as cool as possible (73%)

Not leaving pets in unattended vehicles, even on cooler days (58%)

Limiting outdoor time to shady or heat‑protected areas only (57%)

Other heat‑safety best practices include adjusting outdoor time to cooler parts of the day, avoiding strenuous or excessive activity in general on hot days, and swapping outdoor time for more indoor enrichment activities.

When out and about, nearly half (45%) of pet parents bring portable pet bowls and water, and 23% use booties or paw wax to protect paws from the hot pavement. In addition, 19% of pet tprevent sunburn and overheating.

The survey also highlighted the lengths many pet parents are willing to go financially to keep pets comfortable. Nearly 80% said they would sacrifice personal comforts to prioritize their pet’s safety during the summer months. More than half said they would spend up to $100 extra per month on cooling costs, 37% would purchase a new air conditioner specifically for their pet, and 31% said they would even cancel an expensive vacation in favor of their pet’s well‑being.

Where to find someone to care for your pet when you’re traveling

Summer is also one of the busiest travel seasons of the year, leading many pet parents to seek reliable care while they are away.

If you need someone to care for your pet when you’re on a trip, use a reputable platform like Rover, the world’s largest online marketplace for pet care. Rover enables safer, more personalized pet care by connecting pet parents with trusted sitters who understand each pet’s unique needs.

Sitters offering pet care services on Rover receive safety guidance related to summer care, including monitoring for signs of overheating and ensuring pets receive adequate hydration and breaks from the heat. Sitters on the platform are also required to complete enhanced background checks and safety quizzes.

Pet care experts recommend scheduling a meet and greet with potential sitters before booking their services, particularly during busy travel periods. Planning ahead can help pet parents feel more confident that their pet’s routines, comfort and individual care needs will be maintained while they’re away.

Whether pets are joining summer adventures or staying home with a sitter, experts say preparation and heat awareness can go a long way toward helping pets stay safe and comfortable throughout the season. For more tips on how to enjoy summer with your pets in mind, visit Rover.com.

If you love the idea of hanging out in your yard but it’s not always the most appealing space, you’re probably ready for a backyard makeover. The good news is, there’s a range of simple things you can do to improve the experience of your outdoor space without having to become a master gardener or spend thousands on hardscaping and landscaping.

Here’s a quick look at some recent backyard trends, along with strategies people are using to make the most of their outdoor spaces.

Create activity zones

Consider exactly how you want to use your outdoor areas, and who in the family will be using them. You might want to make a kids play zone, a quiet meditation spot, a cooking and entertaining hub or outdoor office ‑ whatever you want to do outside, create each space in a way that supports that specific purpose.

You can use outdoor furniture and rugs, natural barriers like trees and bushes, large planters and simple structures like pre‑made pergolas, gazebos or privacy screens to help define and divide spaces, then create the vibe you want for each one.

Overall placement of each zone matters. Find an out‑of‑the way nook for a yoga or relaxation spot that won’t be impacted by noise from your kids’ game area. Consider boosting outdoor lighting to illuminate evening entertaining, reading spots or your backyard work‑from‑home zone.

Make sure to prioritize comfort for every zone: Is there adequate seating? Simple benches, wall seating and Adirondack chairs might work, but can you provide more cushioned comfort? Do some spots need a shade sail or umbrella to minimize harsh sunlight at certain times of day? If you need more privacy, a slatted privacy screen or “living wall” full of growing plants can help separate spaces.

Embrace the chaos

If you don’t have a green thumb, you may appreciate the “chaos gardening” trend. Chaos gardening simply means allowing your garden to be more natural rather than manicured, and planting a biodiverse, pollinator‑friendly assortment of native wildflowers.

You may still want to weed a bit, to strengthen the plants you’re encouraging to grow there, but you won’t need to spend all your weekends tidying up these wilder gardens. And you still

benefit from what makes most gardens beautiful: glorious color and the floral aroma that flowers provide.

Eat your garden

Another popular trend is the resurgence of the “kitchen garden,” which you can easily grow in a raised bed or containers at first, keeping your workload to a minimum. Some hardy, low‑maintenance options include cherry tomatoes, zucchini, lettuce, scallions (green onions) and green beans. For herbs, try basil and oregano, mint, parsley and chives.

Think about the type of food you like to make (and eat!) when choosing what plants to grow. Love Italian food? Basil, oregano and tomatoes are a must. Enjoy Mexican cuisine? Grow cilantro and a variety of spicy peppers, like jalapenos. Even better, many of these options can be started indoors, making them a simple choice for beginning gardeners. Kids may enjoy getting in on the act, too.

Have a lot of outdoor space? Consider growing squash, watermelons and pumpkins in your yard. Just make sure that whatever you grow, you’re protecting your garden from marauding critters by using fencing, fine‑mesh cages or netting. Consult your local garden center for the most effective ideas appropriate for your region.

Boost your wellness through exercise

You may already have an established quiet zone for meditation or yoga, but you may also want areas where you and your kids can play active games, get some physical exercise and have fun together. Beyond elaborate play structures, consider sparking excitement by creating an obstacle course or scavenger hunt in your yard.

Classic yard games are also making a comeback, so you may want to set up a badminton net or get (or make) a cornhole set. You could also try croquet, horseshoes or even ultimate Frisbee, depending on the amount of space you have, and your kids’ ages.

Keep pests to a minimum

If bugs in your yard are keeping you from enjoying the outdoors, basic pest control methods can make a difference. Natural techniques include keeping your grass mowed and not allowing brush or leaves to pile up. You’ll also want to ensure there’s no standing water in your yard, like in clogged gutters, where mosquitos can breed.

Some pests are deterred by the scent of mint, marigolds and lavender, so consider planting these fragrant plants around your yard. And those native flowers you’re encouraging on your property also attract predators like dragonflies and birds that eat insects.

By creating spaces designed to meet your needs, you’ll be much more likely to enjoy your time outside. Let your imagination be your guide, and get ready to enjoy your backyard paradise!

GRADUATION PARTY PLANNING

Graduation marks the end of one chapter and the beginning of another, a significant milestone worth celebrating. However, planning a graduation party can be overwhelming.

To host a memorable celebration for your graduate, consider these tips to help take the stress out of planning.

Set a Budget and Make a Guest List

When planning a graduation party, it’s important to start by setting a budget and creating a guest list. Determine how much you’re willing to spend and allocate funds for different aspects, such as food, decorations and entertainment, which can help you stay organized and ensure you don’t overspend.

Next, create a guest list of family members, friends and classmates you want to invite. Consider the size of the venue and your budget when finalizing the guest list. It’s also a good idea to send invitations out well in advance to give guests enough time to RSVP.

Choose the Perfect Theme

The theme of a graduation party can help set the tone and create a memorable experience for guests. When selecting a theme, consider the graduate’s interests, hobbies and future plans. For example, if he or she is going to college, have a college‑themed party with decorations and activities related to the chosen university.

Other ideas include having guests bring items that represent memories with the graduate and creating a time capsule to be opened in the future or a travel theme with wanderlust‑inspired decorations, food from different countries and activities that celebrate adventure.

Determine Decor

Personalize the party by incorporating elements unique to your graduate’s achievements and personality. Display diplomas, awards and photos throughout the venue. You can also create a photo collage or slideshow showcasing his or her journey from kindergarten to graduation. Remember to match the color scheme to the overall theme of the party and use lighting, such as string lights, candles or lanterns, to help set the right ambiance.

Organize Food and Drink Options

Food and drinks are an important aspect of any party. Based on your budget and the style or party, decide whether you want to have a sit‑down dinner, buffet or finger foods. You can hire a caterer, ask friends and family to contribute dishes or prepare the food yourself if you enjoy cooking. Don’t forget to have a variety of beverages available, including non‑alcoholic options, and consider any dietary restrictions or preferences of your guests when planning the menu.

Get creative with your food and drinks by incorporating graduation‑themed treats. For example, you can serve cupcakes decorated as graduation caps or cookies shaped like diplomas and create a signature drink that represents the graduate or his or her future plans. You can give it a fun name and serve it in personalized glasses.

Plan Entertainment and Activities

To keep guests entertained throughout the party, plan fun activities and entertainment. Consider hiring a DJ or creating a playlist of your graduate’s favorite songs to keep the energy up. You can also set up a dance floor or karaoke station for guests to enjoy. Also consider activities like a photo booth with props, trivia game about the graduate or memory jar where guests can write down their favorite memories with the graduate.

If your graduate has any specific hobbies or interests, try to include them in the entertainment. For example, if he or she loves sports, organize a friendly pickup game or set up a mini sports area for guests to enjoy.

Ready for a home refresh, but not in the market for a pricey reno? You can transform your most lived‑in spaces by leaning into trends making a splash in 2026. Whether you want to change the look of your living room, bedroom or any other area of your home, explore ways to use personalization, rich color and texture to bring new life to your spaces.

Express yourself

One of the biggest trends of the year is turning away from minimalism and toward a space that tells your story. You can create a personalized space by curating specific items that are meaningful to you, using them as inspiration for the rest of your decor.

An heirloom rug, piece of art or furniture, some special item you collected while traveling or any of your own treasures can become the room’s focal point, using the colors, feeling or time period conjured by the piece to help you design the entire space.

Use a photo of your cherished item to create a digital or analog “mood board.” Put that photo in the center of the board, then gather colors, textures and other photos that inspire the vibe you’re going for. This process can help you make choices about paint colors, window treatments and furnishings you may want to add to the space, and what you want to remove.

Pro tip: Have a collection of special items? Put it proudly on display! Invest in a special case, shelving and lighting to show your treasures at their best.

Dive into rich earthy tones

Don’t be afraid to experiment with color. You can get paint swatches, stickers or small samples of paint to try out in a room first, to see what you really like. Remember to view the paint color after it’s completely dry and at different times of day.

Trending colors include earth tones like deep

olive or plum, terracotta, rust or chocolate brown, which can be beautifully contrasted with warm neutrals such as taupe, cream and camel.

*Color drenching is on‑trend, which means painting all of a room one color ‑ including the trim, doors and millwork. You can even include the ceiling! By eliminating the contrast you get with white trim, for example, color drenching creates drama and a strong sense of cohesion in a room.

Wallpaper has also made a serious comeback, so you may want to check out some of the latest designs, patterns and colors that can really transform a room. Don’t want to wallpaper a whole wall? Consider using wallpaper in small areas, like behind open shelves or in framed panels using decorative molding. You can also add wainscoting or a chair rail and only use wallpaper above (or even below) the rail.

Pro tip: One surprising new trend is using wallpaper on the “fifth wall” ‑ in other words, the ceiling. Wallpapered ceilings can create a great effect for any room, especially small spaces, as it draws the eye upward. Consider using the technique in a space where you have a striking light fixture or chandelier you want to showcase. Sink into texture

Creating a warm, comfy vibe in any space is easy if you choose textures that you want to run your fingers through. Make your whole room more cozy by opting for furniture with soft, sculptural shapes, and using natural materials such as wood, cotton, wool and linen. Textural variety is also on‑trend with wallpaper choices like grass cloth and sisal, papers with fluted or ribbed effects, faux plaster and even woven fabrics.

Mixing different textures, including mixed metals for hardware, is a continuing trend this year, helping to contribute to the sensory‑rich atmosphere that seems to be what everyone’s craving in today’s home design.

Pro tip: Maximize visual interest by mixing and matching everything from matte black and brushed nickel to silver and bronze for your faucets, cabinet pulls and more.

Whichever options you choose to create your own unique atmosphere at home, enjoy the process of discovering what you like best, and don’t be afraid to let your own personality shine through. Personal expression, variety and comfort are the guiding principles of the latest trends in home decor.

Gardening enthusiasts, rejoice! The long‑awaited moment has arrived ‑ gardening season is officially here. As green thumbs eagerly prepare to embark on their outdoor endeavors, there’s no better time to infuse your surroundings with bursts of color and life. Joining in the spring celebration is Beacon® Impatiens from PanAmerican Seed®, boasting a dazzling array of eight vibrant colors and seven playful mixes. Whether adorning hanging baskets, window boxes or landscapes in the shade, these resilient blooms promise to bring an essence of elegance and allure into your outdoor spaces.

Brighten up your shady space

Impatiens thrive in less light, so when you’re planning your garden, consider how color can bring your shady areas to life. Beacon® Impatiens make it easy, since their vibrant, cheerful blooms in striking hues create a captivating visual contrast against their dark green foliage. For a truly unique garden aesthetic, blend various shade‑loving green textures, like ferns and hostas with a rich assortment of Beacon® Impatiens colors ranging from bright red and coral to white and violet.

When considering spatial arrangement, keep in mind that cool colors such as greens and blues tend to recede into the distance, while warm hues like reds and oranges appear closer, establishing an inviting atmosphere. Further transform your garden or patio into a lively oasis by selecting decorative pots and experimenting with more color combinations, setting an enchanting backdrop for your garden gatherings or backyard parties. Impatiens serve as an excellent addition to any container, seamlessly complementing other shade‑loving flowers or plants in pots and hanging baskets, adding a festive flair to your outdoor décor.

Stay on trend with color combinations & new varieties

Impatiens Beacon® Lipstick boasts a bold, sassy red shade guaranteed to brighten any garden with its vibrant charm. Additionally, the newly unveiled Impatiens Beacon ® Pearl Island Mixture includes an exclusive preview of a “Blue Pearl” variety, not yet available on the market, blended with coral and white blossoms. This one‑of‑a‑kind combination pays homage to the picturesque Pearl Island Lighthouse in Nova Scotia, evoking a sense of coastal serenity and elegance.

Tips for caring for impatiens

Impatiens are an easy‑to‑grow plant for beginner gardeners. If it’s your first time planting them, there are a few important tips to keep in mind. First, ensure you select a shaded area for your Beacon® Impatiens, although partial shade can suffice if it receives morning sunlight followed by shade for the rest of the day during spring and summer. Pay attention to the spacing of your plants, as it influences their height. Planting impatiens closer together results in taller growth, with Beacon® Impatiens reaching heights of 14 to 18 inches. Concerned about impatiens downy mildew (IDM)? This is not an issue with Beacon® Impatiens, as they boast high resistance to this disease, providing durable color all season without the risk of plant loss. When it comes to watering, it is recommended to maintain a balance; while impatiens require at least 2 inches of water per week in garden beds, daily watering is necessary for those in containers or window boxes. Avoid over‑watering to prevent waterlogged roots, which impede growth. Lastly, fertilizing regularly, approximately every 2 weeks, ensures optimal growth for Beacon® Impatiens. Consider using slow‑release fertilizer upon planting and reapplication midway through summer.

For some travelers counting down to spring break, recent headlines about violence in parts of Mexico have sparked a new question: Should I cancel my trip? Travel advisors say they are seeing a surge in calls and emails from clients trying to determine whether developments in one region affect major resort areas elsewhere.

The questions follow several days of unrest in parts of Mexico after security operations targeting organized crime leaders prompted temporary flight disruptions and shelter‑in‑place guidance for U.S. government personnel in areas including Puerto Vallarta and Guadalajara. In this article, ALG Vacations explains what current travel advisories mean for spring break travelers heading to Mexico.

The U.S. State Department evaluates Mexico state by state, not as a single destination, and advisory levels vary by region. Many major beach destinations, including Cancun, Riviera Maya, Tulum and Los Cabos, are currently under a Level 2 advisory, which encourages travelers to exercise increased caution. It does not discourage travel.

Part of the confusion stems from geography. Puerto Vallarta, on the Pacific coast, is roughly 1,300 miles from Cancun and the Riviera Maya on the Caribbean side, about the distance between New York and Miami. Because advisories are assigned state by state, developments in one region do not automatically alter another.

In recent days, that uncertainty has translated into additional inquiries about whether specific resort areas are experiencing disruptions. U.S. Embassy security alerts issued this week

indicate that temporary shelter‑in‑place guidance affecting Puerto Vallarta was lifted and that flight operations resumed. The advisory level for the Mexican state of Quintana Roo remains unchanged.

Some clients are asking about alternatives, advisors say, but many are continuing with their plans after reviewing official updates. Travel patterns often shift in response to breaking headlines, they add, before stabilizing as clearer information becomes available.

The State Department assigns travel advisories on a four‑tier scale ranging from Level 1, exercise normal precautions, to Level 4, do not travel. While Level 2 encourages increased awareness, Level 3 and Level 4 carry stronger language discouraging or restricting travel.

Advisories are reviewed regularly and can be updated as conditions evolve. The State Department’s Mexico advisory page breaks down conditions by state, reflecting the country’s federal structure rather than issuing a single national designation. Travelers can also enroll in the State Department’s Smart Traveler Enrollment Program, which provides real‑time security updates and allows U.S. officials to contact citizens in an emergency.

Embassy notices state that airports, hotels and tourism services in Quintana Roo are operating normally. Security conditions across Mexico vary widely by state, with some regions carrying higher advisories and others designated Level 1. Most destinations popular with U.S. travelers are currently classified as Level 2. As spring break approaches, advisors say informed decision‑making depends on reviewing the advisories assigned to a specific destination and monitoring official updates, rather than reacting to national headlines alone. Travel decisions ultimately depend on individual comfort levels, they add, but advisory levels are assigned regionally and should be evaluated accordingly.

FATHER’S DAY GIFTS

Shopping for your dad on Father’s Day each year can be a challenge, especially when he says he doesn’t want anything or claims he already has everything he needs. However, focusing on the things he enjoys such as music, exercising or hobbies like woodworking or metalworking can send you down the right path toward finding a gift to say “thank you” for all he’s done and show him how much he means to you.

To help make the experience of shopping for your father less complicated, consider these practical options, and find more gift ideas to make his day at eLivingtoday.com.

Help Dad Transform His Workspace

When home projects abound, the right tools can help dad work smarter, solve problems and get more done easier and faster. With unprecedented adaptability and flexibility, the IQ Vise System by Work IQ Tools features a ball and socket design that allows articulation and 360‑degree rotation at any angle for optimal

work positioning while complementing task‑specific jaws create the perfect grip for an extensive range of shapes and materials. Plus, IQ Connect plug‑and‑play accessories provide hands‑free assistance on the vise and around your work area via three additional mounting options. Find more Father’s Day gift ideas to help dad work smarter at workiqtools.com.

Give Dad the Gift of a Great Workout

If your dad is looking to get (or stay) in shape, skip the gym membership and give him the equipment he needs to complete his workouts at home. From strength training equipment like dumbbells to cardio equipment such as running shoes, a jump rope and more, plus essentials like a yoga mat and resistance bands, there are plenty of options available to help your dad create a fitness center in the comforts of home.

Let Dad Listen to His Favorite Tunes in Peace The right set of wireless, noise‑canceling headphones can be a gamechanger when it comes to listening to music or podcasts. Replacing those old, wired headphones with a pair of in‑ear or over‑ear Bluetooth‑connected ones ‑ whichever style he typically prefers ‑ with an extended battery life can serve as an upgrade whether your dad is hitting the gym, walking the dog, taking a phone call on the go or just watching his favorite show on his phone while lounging at home.
