John Agnew has been in the Produce/Floral Industry since he was 16 years old. He joined Whole Foods Market nearly 20 years ago spending 14 years as the Floral Coordinator in the Mid-Atlantic region before moving to the Northeast region for last 5 years. John currently lives in Monroe Township, NJ with his wife of 14 years and his twin 13 year old boys.

Kevin Prill is the the cut flower category manager for A​ hold USA​, parent company of retail divisions Stop & ​ Shop New ​England​, Stop & Shop New ​York Metro​, Giant Carlisle and ​Giant ​Landover​. He is responsible for all aspects of the cut flower category for more than 750 stores, spanning New England, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware and Virginia.

Maxine Burton President + COO burton + BURTON Since 1982, as president and founder of Flowers, Inc. Balloons®, Maxine Burton has established her company as a leader in the balloon and gift industry. Maxine earned a Bachelor of Science in Education and a Master of Education from the University of Georgia, where she was a member of Alpha Xi Delta sorority. She has continued her education at Harvard Business School, taking executive courses in 1998 and 2001. Maxine has received numerous local and national awards recognizing her as a leader in her industry and for her service to her community.

Joe Farrell President BloomQuest, LLC Joseph Farrell, President of BloomQuest LLC, has been in the floriculture industry for 40 years. Always bringing new and different, quality products to North America from global, international growers. Farrell strongly believes in education and promotion of the floral industry to the mass market and the consumer.

Cynthia McGowan Editor-In-Chief Super Floral Magazine Cynthia McGowan is the editor in chief of Super Floral, the industry’s only monthly magazine dedicated to covering supermarket and mass market floral operations. At Super Floral, she has written on a wide range of topics of importance to the floral industry, from business innovations to consumer trends. Before being named editor of Super Floral in 2004, she was news editor at the Topeka Capital-Journal, where she coordinated both daily content and long-term projects.

Cynthia is a graduate of the University of Kansas, where she studied journalism.

Prill has been in the supermarket industry since 1985 and in floral for more than 25 years. He started his career at ​Finast ​Supermarkets which ​eventually became Stop ​& Shop​Supermarkets​​and during ​this time he has held the positions of floral manager, ​floral ​specialist and ​floral ​buyer for Stop and Shop.​Additionally, for 7 years Prill worked at A&P Supermarkets as a category manager of floral, running the day to day operations of the floral business for over 350 stores.​ He then returned to A​hold USA in 2014 where he is the current category manager of cut flowers.​

Kito Temkin Sales Temkin International Kito always desires to not only improve himself, but those around him as well. Bringing to business this philosophy, a BA in Economics, and a general zest for entrepreneurship, Kito plans on making some big waves in the industry. Beginning his career at Temkin in printing and production, he learned the necessary tools to transition into a sales and marketing position.

Kito is now a Sales Manager and continues to learn and execute day in and day out. His excitement to continue Temkin International’s success as a leader in the packaging industry is shown in his dedication and support for all of Temkin’s employees, vendor partners and clients.

Michael Schrader Floral Director Schnucks Market Michael Schrader has been the Director of Floral reporting to the Vice President of Produce for the past 9 years.

He oversees the buying of all floral and gift products for Schnucks Florist and Gifts at the floral design center, 9220 Shortline in St. Louis as well as 95 in-store floral outlets in five states.

He holds a business degree from the University of Missouri and has a 30 year career in the floral business. Michael has attained a level of expertise that has earned him a strong reputation in the floral industry. At Schnucks, Schrader has taken the floral division to a higher level with themed floral statements, exotic stems and an expanded selection of giftware.

“More than ever before, flowers are an integral part of the décor in homes across the nation,” said Schrader.

“Schnucks customers can look forward to an introduction of emerging flower varieties to complement gift items that are upscale and on trend. These combinations will lead to exciting new possibilities in color themes and home accessorizing styles.”

Pieter Landman President Blooming Vision In 1963, Pieter was found behind a blooming tulip in the bulb-fields of his parents in Breezand the Netherlands.

After finalizing ‘Cum Laude’ the horticulture school for floral industry and floral design, he decided to open a flower shop, to start a freelance job on the side creating floral decorations around the world and on top to follow the study for his master degree on floral designing.

BV’, consulting mass markets and their suppliers around the world on trends, product development, merchandizing and sales. Aside working with fresh flowers and plants, he creates excitement with artificial flowers, ceramics and packaging never forgetting the basic desire of the consumer.

Robert Markus Floral Director Harris Teeter Robert Markus is the Floral Director for Harris Teeter (Kroger subsidiary) in Matthews, NC (8 years). He is transplanted 5th generation California native who has moved throughout the country in pursuit of his passion, horticulture. Holding a four year Horticulture degree from California Polytechnic State University, his journey in the floral industry began 24 years ago. His success is an accumulation of education, experience and knowledge from previous positions. Has progressively worked in all aspects if the floral industry including: Owning a landscape company, wholesale floral (DWF), breeder/grower (Dole Fresh Flowers) and supermarkets (HEB, Farm Fresh (Supervalu) and Harris Teeter (Kroger).

Markus believes in thinking outside of the box and was responsible for developing the first floral guarantee program in the US and created the tear-away sleeve for consumer bunches and bouquets. “I have always had a passion for floriculture and landscaping, I was the kid who weeded without being told”. Favorite hobbies (after wife and kids) are landscaping, home remodeling, construction, and auto restoration. “Never be afraid to try something new, we all must throw things against the wall to see if they stick, only then can success and progress be made”.

Decorating international floral shows around the world, sports events like Wimbledon, royal palaces, society weddings, fashion shows, master-classes to florists as well to royalties and children and presenting television programs about floral designing are a few of the topics of his long list.

After closing down his flower shop in the nineties, Pieter concentrated himself more on product development, trend watching, merchandizing and sales for the mass market. He worked with large well-known floral exporters in Aalsmeer, the Netherlands, creating exciting new floral products for the European and American mass-market industry.

Over the years, she has worked with many of the top balloon manufacturers to train supermarket floral attendants on ways for retailers to implement balloons into their merchandising displays. Her infectious energy and sense of humor has educated and entertained seminar attendees from coast-to-coast. Robert De Bellis AIFD, CFD, PFCI is the lead designer at World Class Flowers, a market leader in arrangements, bouquets, roses, consumer bunches and specialty items. He is a Laureate member of AIFD (member over 20 years) and was inducted into PFCI in September of 2009.

With over 30 years in the industry, Robert has been on every side of the floral industry. His experience of running two floral shops (for over 14 years), working at Whole Foods Market on the front lines and being lead designer at World Class Flowers have given him a wealth of knowledge and perspective.

Steve teaches many seminars on care & handling in both the U.S. and internationally, and his various industry achievements include PMA Marketer of the Year for 2002.

Tim Huckabee AIFSE, President of FloralStrategies, was born, raised and educated in Connecticut. He moved to nearby New York City in 1993 where he started working at Surroundings Flowers, a luxury flower shop catering to the city’s movers and shakers.

Tim learned every aspect of the flower business while working there, from phone sales to customer service, dealing with walk-ins and handling the store’s wire out business. He frequently spoke to florists in his daily duties and quickly realized there was a dire lack of sales and service training in the industry.

Tim was motivated to address this huge gap in floral education and in 1997 he left the Surroundings to launch his own company, FloralStrategies. The concept was simple: bring customer services, sales and POS training right to the flower shop and train the staff in the comfort of the store, regardless of location. Closing in on nearly one million travel miles, Tim and his staff of trainers have visited over 5000 retailers from Australia to Canada, Dublin Ireland to Dublin Ohio – and just about everywhere in between!

Madelon Balm received her MBA from Erasmus University, specializing in marketing. As a consumer, she wondered why she had to throw her flowers away in just three days, and started to examine the traditional supply chain which was extremely supply driven at that time. She founded Roselife in 2007 and has since identified many opportunities for improvement, with much success.

Madelon recently led a successful loyalty promotion program at PLUS Supermarket, a franchise organization with 260 stores in the Netherlands. Madelon will review how she implemented the campaign in the months leading up to Mother’s Day in 2015 which saw sales increase by 14% within an 8 week promotional campaign. Madelon is eager to share her methods and open up discussion on how US stores can do the same.

This lively competition is always a favorite event at the International Floriculture Expo!

Watch leading floral designers compete for the best display in front of an expert judging panel and a cheering audience.

The theme “Still Life: Fusion of Produce and Floral” celebrates IFE’s collaboration with United Fresh as well as combining historical art with modern vision. Designers are challenged to incorporate fresh produce into their floral designs, just like still life paintings of the 17th century, but to win their creations must be the most innovative design! Competitors choose from an array of fresh cut floral and fruits and vegetables, as well as the latest in floral accessories to create their displays.

Life in Full Bloom with Frederique van der Wal Founder and Chief Creative Officer, Frederique’s Choice Tuesday, June 21, 2016 | 1:00pm – 2:00pm

Join Frederique as she discusses her journey to starting her own floral brand, Frederique’s Choice, and learn how she spreads floral inspiration with her new TV show, Homegrown Makeover.

Frederique van der Wal is the Founder and Chief Creative Officer of Frederique’s Choice, a lifestyle e-commerce and content brand centered around all things flowers.

As one of the most recognized faces in the modeling world, she has taken her phenomenal global success in fashion and beauty and translated it into a career that spans the worlds of fashion, film, television and business.

Frederique has appeared on the covers of beauty and fashion magazines worldwide, including Vogue and Cosmopolitan; in prestigious campaigns including Revlon, Guess?, MCI and Victoria’s Secret, and has been profiled in such varied magazines as Forbes and InStyle.

In 2005, Frederique’s native Holland bestowed the great distinction of naming a lily in her honor. The Frederique’s Choice Lily was unveiled at a ceremony in Amsterdam, and inspired her to develop, produce and host a television program called “The Invisible Journey” with the Discovery Channel, which traced the route a flower travels from the growing fields of Africa through the markets and auction houses in the Netherlands to a special event in New York City.

“The Invisible Journey” led Frederique to create a lifestyle brand within the flower industry, Frederique’s Choice. Flowers have always played an inspirational role in Frederique’s life. Since its launch in Europe, Frederique’s Choice has been featured internationally to great acclaim.

She has produced and hosted numerous television shows for multiple broadcast and cable networks, and is currently Host and Executive Producer on Homegrown Makeover on AETN’s newest network FYI for a 10-episode TV series that uses flowers as a vehicle for home transformations.
