Foreword It is my great pleasure to introduce 63 UK food and drink companies showcasing at HOFEX, Asia’s leading food and hospitality trade show. These companies come from across the UK: chocolates from England’s Peak District, milk from the Pembrokeshire valleys in Wales, beef from the southern Highlands of Scotland, sparkling wine from vineyards in Kent, craft gin and whisky from Northern Ireland’s County Down. Together the companies represent some of the best the UK has to offer, so please do make sure you visit them at the UK pavilion at booth 5B-537 and the Scottish pavilion at 5B-636.

Although current travel restrictions mean that exporters are unable to fly out to Hong Kong this year, we are fortunate to have their support in putting together a fantastic showcase – from wine to craft gin and whisky, confectionery, free-from snacks, premium meat, and more.

From our traditional institutions such as afternoon tea and the classic British pub, to the creativity of our many Michelin-starred restaurants and chefs, the UK is home to a strong and dynamic food and drink culture. Our island location and clean waters give us access to rich stocks of fish and shellfish, and our fertile soil and climate provide some of the world’s best crops, dairy and meat. We care about – and are proud of – the food we produce: the farmers and manufacturers at the heart of our food industry produce ingredients that meet the highest standards of animal welfare, quality assurance and sustainability.

Hong Kong is renowned for people’s passion for food and for the importance they place on quality. We aim to work closely with importers, distributors, retailers and the catering industry so that more Hongkongers will be able to enjoy the best of British food and drink.

Great Food is the start of a great story The UK is internationally renowned for its excellent food and drink sector with a global reputation as an exporter that upholds values of quality, reliability and transparency.

From farm to fork, at every stage of the food chain, the UK is creating exceptional food and drink that’s landing on dinner plates around the world. UK food and drink exports are now worth over £21.3 billion, providing unprecedented opportunities for UK exporters, international buyers and investors. Hong Kong is ranked top 14 as an export destination for the food and drink sector, with total export worth £367.5 million.

The diversity of Britain’s food and drink is staggering. We export British classics such as whisky and gin, salmon and seafood, specialist teas and cheeses to over 200 countries and territories. You can find different specialty products or dishes in every region of the UK, from the distinctive malt whiskies of Islay in the Scottish Hebrides to the rich Stilton of the Midlands.

We have a long heritage of producing a broad range of unique food and drink, including 700 named cheeses, and 88 name-protected foods.

From Scotch whisky to sparkling wine to craft beer, gin and cider, UK alcohol brands come with a global reputation for quality and taste, and we are seeing remarkable growth in demand for the products of our distilleries, vineyards and breweries. Whisky is the UK’s largest export in the food and drink sector, and in every 8 bottle of Scotch whisky, there was one bottle destined for Hong Kong (2.2m out of 15.8m bottle in 2020).

The UK is a pioneer in food production techniques and has one of the most technically advanced and forward-looking food industries in the world. Our food and drink companies continue to develop thousands of new products each year, driven by our world-renowned science, innovation and creative sectors and meeting some of the highest standards of animal welfare, quality assurance and sustainability in the world.

Product category: Meat Summary Home to 9,000 sheep and cattle, Auch Estate situates in the southern Highlands of Scotland, ringed by ranges of impressive peaks. At their historic Scottish farm, all of their animals are naturally grass-fed and grass-finished, reared without the need of introducing manufactured concentrates. They breed their replacements and have better control of the health and the well-being of the flock. Some of the genetics have been passed on for generations.

The farm animals at Auch Estate are up against considerable challenges, from natural predators to poor weather conditions over the winter period. Yet, they insist on letting their cattle and lambs grow and mature naturally, without rushing to finishing weights with the aid of any concentrates.

Their signature fruit is the Little Scarlet Strawberry, a tiny wild variety, originally brought to the UK by the Wilkin family in the early 1900’s. They believe that they are unique in the world in growing this difficult crop, adding exceptional flavours.

They received their first Royal Warrant from George V in 1911 and remain as a holders as purveyors of Tiptree products to Her Majesty the Queen.

Tiptree products can now be found in over seventy countries, on luxury cruise liners, in five star hotels and on top airlines.
