Meet the DIT Trade Mission 2022: Breaking the Fourth Wall

When I first came to work for the UK’s Department for International Trade’s (DIT), it was just a couple of weeks before SXSW 2020. We all know how that played out. I’m sure I’m not the only one who is looking forward to finally being together in person once again (or for the first time, in my case) in Austin this year.

The UK presence at SXSW 2022 shines a spotlight on the best of British creativity.

There are 18 companies participating in our annual Trade Mission this year, carefully selected from an applicant pool of over one hundred. They hail from across the UK and bring with them innovative solutions to drive audience engagement, applications of artificial intelligence, data analytics, and immersive technologies, among many other specialties.

The 18 companies profiled here are breaking through the fourth wall, giving audiences and consumers novel ways to engage and even author their own experiences with brands and bands. They are amplifying the fevered pitch during closely contested football games and are deepening the delight of learning in museum exhibits and classrooms. They are creating new avenues for positive social and environmental change by inviting small acts of attention and intention.
