A designer, traveler, and innovator, Ezio moved from Italy to the US, where he fell in love with Georgetown. Ezio constantly finds inspiration from his Italian roots to create modern and luxurious furniture design and layout. A personable and charismatic man, Ezio seeks the best results for clients, and values their happiness. To him, furniture is more than design, it is about coming home to “your space of relaxation.” How has your Italian background influenced you as a designer?

What would you like homeowners to know about you as an individual? I am interested in what homeowners want to accomplish, and accomplishing what they want me to. There are no two personalities alike and your room is your own cocoon, your space of relaxation.You want to go home and forget everything else. This space should reflect your personality and be a place you want to enjoy 100% of the time. I don’t want to impose my personal tastes, but rather understand my clients and get to know them. That being said, I give guidance, and work directly with them. I use 3D renderings, which are extremely important so that they understand the process through these almost realistic models. My goal is to beat the 3D rendering and for the reality to be better. How does your design fit in with the Georgetown area? Georgetown reminds me of Italy, as it is the most historical part of Washington. I feel especially attached to Georgetown, and everytime I go to my showroom, I go back to a place that reminds me of my roots. Georgetown has done a wonderful job in the last 20 years of becoming a fully fledged design

I visit Italy 2-4 times a year. In the fall I go to the factories, one every day for five days. I see the general process, the artisans at work, and like to check in personally with the production managers. I go all over to visit artisans, schedule appointments, and go to the International Furniture Expo in Milan, which is 8x the size of any other fair in the world. I have been there every year for the past 18 years, as I am able to see what’s going on in the world. Italy is at the forefront of design not just of furniture, but of industrial design, materials, and more. Going to Italy and being immersed in design, I come back reenergized.

district. Now, Georgetown competes with the major design districts of the US, such as New York, California, Miami, and more. What is your personal favorite home design or decor trend?

My favorite trend is in materials, and it’s funny because for years the trend in wood was static but now changed to walnut. Until last year the trend in marble was Brazilian Emperador marble, but now it’s Gray Alps marble. There are a lot of trends going on on materials, but my advice is don’t follow the flavor of the day. Rather, rely on what the client really likes because whatever you’re accomplishing for them lasts a lifetime. Kitchen design is my favorite, and I like to work with designers and architects, and have solid relationships collaborating with them.

Spring Biking with Steve! This spring, 5 friends biked with Steve on a 6-night trip from Pittsburgh to Georgetown, taking the Great Allegheny Passage and C&O Towpath. The gang camped every night, picking up provisions along the way in small town restaurants and stores. Weather ranged from snow on Day 1 to 68 degrees with knee-high blue bells on Day 6. While Steve has biked from Cumberland to Georgetown many times, this was his first time coming all the way down from Pittsburgh. Congrats, Steve!
