Fairmont Homes NSW charity home, which is currently being built in Oran Park to raise funds for the Kids of Macarthur Health Foundation, is making great progress for an anticipated completion of late November, thanks to the generous support of all involved with the project.

Construction began on the 2nd of July this year and the community support with planning and building the charity home has been amazing. Approximately 100 individuals from 50 businesses have come together to lend a hand for the worthy cause.

The home has a traditional country feel, with cladded front façade, steel frame and Colorbond roof. It will feature smart home wiring, a fireplace, Caesarstone benchtops and a timber floor.

Once completed, the home will be sold with all profits donated to the Kids of Macarthur Health Foundation. Fairmont Homes NSW will continue to support the charity, as they have for the last 10 years (having built 3 homes already for them).

“My favourite part about being involved with this project is knowing that all the hard work will benefit such a fantastic local charity that is close to our hearts. Rosie Gives Back

Gregory Hills resident Rosie Canty, lives by the motto “if you see a need, then do something about it”. The local mother of two and her family choose various charity campaigns every few months to participate in and have already raised thousands of dollars over the years. Their latest campaign that they have come together for is Share the Dignity’s #itsinthebag Christmas Appeal.

Share the Dignity runs all year round to collect sanitary and hygiene products for impoverished women, teens and new mums. They have local drop off points, such as Woolworths, where you will find boxes where they collect sanitary items throughout the year.

The #itsinthebag Christmas Appeal that Rosie is supporting involves filling up a new or pre-loved handbag with items for donation. She explained that you can make up three bag options, which include a woman bag (sanitary and personal care items), a teen bag (a little more youthful and fun) and a new mum bag (nappies, baby items etc).

“My children and I have put together bags each year since 2016, through their day care or local drop-offs. Now that they’re in big school, we haven’t seen any notices locally, so I decided to help. The Christmas Appeal is particularly important because it’s a time when there are so many people in need. These basic items shouldn’t be forgotten” said Rosie.

Bunnings Warehouse will also be accepting bag donations for Share the Dignity’s #itsinthebag Christmas Appeal from Friday 22nd November to Saturday 7th December 2019.

“It's very important that our children know how lucky we are, and that to help those less fortunate, is what makes us human! It's not hard to do at all, because there are so many people in our community who are involved in charities and who are so generous and willing to give, so it makes it really easy” Rosie explained.

Hi everyone!

My name is Kobhi and I am 9 years old. I love to help my Mum and Dad cook yummy food in the kitchen.

Each month, I will share with you some of my favourite recipes. Oh yeah, make sure you always have an adult helping you cook.

Ko's Cottage Pie

Ingredients

550gm Beef Mince 1 Onion - Diced 1 Cup Frozen Mixed Veggies 1 440g can Tomato Soup 1 440g Can Diced or Crushed Tomatoes 1 Tbs Tomato Paste 1 Cup Beef Stock 4 Medium Potatoes 1 Tbs Butter 100ml Milk Salt + Pepper to taste Method

1. Ask your adult helper to turn the oven on at 180 degrees or 150 degrees (fan forced).

2. Your adult helper needs to cook the mince and the onion in the frypan, until brown.

3. Add the frozen veggies now (my brother doesn't like these, but he just picks them out).

4. Add the tomato soup, diced tomatoes and beef stock. With your adult helper, cook on a low heat until it thickens and is not too saucy!

5. Let the mince mixture sit to cool.

6. The next step for your helper is to peel and dice the potatoes and boil them in a pot until soft.

7. Drain the water from the potatoes, add the butter and milk, mash them until smooth.

8. Grease a small oven proof tray; add the mince mixture and top with the potato mixture.

9. Ask your adult helper to place the dish in the oven for 35 minutes or until brown on top.

10. Ready to serve.

Perich Park Officially Opened Last month, Camden Council celebrated the official naming of Perich Park in the centre of Oran Park Town. With the Mayor of Camden, the Hon. Theresa Fedeli hosting the event and Jim Marsden of Marsdens Law Group the master of ceremonies, many of the Perich family were present with a large ensemble of VIP’s including Peter Sidgreaves MP, John Brogden, CEO of Landcom and other dignitaries.

Tony and Ron Perich, along with Theresa Fedeli, completed the naming ceremony with an unveiling of plaques and photos of the family. This was in honour of the Perich family’s contribution to the Camden District for over 70 years.

Local families were treated to a great day out in the beautiful Spring weather, with the event also featuring a jumping castle, petting zoo, face painting, music, live entertainment and morning tea including coffee and gelato.

The park has been named after Kolombo and Julia Perich, who settled in the Camden area in the 1950’s. Now the fourth generation of Perich’s are still managing and operating the family farming and property businesses.

Through the Perich family, Oran Park Town has contributed significantly to the Camden local area in establishing thousands of homes and business opportunities over the past decades and will continue for decades to come.

Local School’s Eco-Warriors Oran Park Public School have embraced the opportunity to help reduce their contribution to landfill.

The Return and Earn initiative commenced in Term 2, 2019 and has been met with resounding support from staff and students.

Oran Park Public School eco-warrior lead teachers, Michelle Carr and Samantha Kidd, are encouraging all students and staff to deposit their eligible drink containers at the classroom collection points.

The dedicated ‘eco-warrior’ students at the school collect the containers and deposit them into the larger orange bins. Once the bins are full, the fantastic team at Red Frog Recycling visit the school to collect the eligible containers.

Deputy Principal, Ms Jodie Bland said, “Not only are the students at Oran Park Public School helping to raise funds for their school; they’re actually learning about and actively helping to reduce the amount of waste going to landfill and ultimately, that’s what this project is all about!” The original target was set at 500 bottles. The school quickly exceeded this target and collected 1800 bottles, which was over three times their targeted amount!

Due to the overwhelming success, they have recently invited the support of the local community. Each Thursday morning, staff and students from the Eco/Environmental club eagerly greet parents and gladly take their eligible drink containers, which go towards the school’s Return and Earn goal. At the moment, the school are busily saving for some compost bins and a new water tank to help keep their newly planted trees and native plants alive and well. Oran Park Probus Club meets on the first Tuesday of every month, except January. With only two meetings left till the end of the year, we look forward to welcoming visitors and new members.

As the statement reminds us – especially those who use the internet and engage with social media on a daily basis - the digital media offers positive possibilities for encounter and solidarity. However, some elements of our digital world may be harmful. These include information overload; social isolation; marginalisation of the vulnerable; consumerism and fake news. The Statement reminds us that the new digital media cannot be seen as neutral or ‘unaffected by any moral considerations’. While many users do not realise it, the core business of social media platforms is to sell advertising and maximise profits. People’s personal lives may be reduced to data that is traded for profit or power, and it is used to target and influence us in ways previously unthinkable. Pushing users to more extreme positions and promoting fake news and conspiracy theories sells, but this is at odds with human solidarity.

The Bishops amplify Pope Francis’ call to us to ‘boldly become citizens of the digital world’. All of us have a role to play in rejecting hatred, divisions and falsehoods. We have a duty to foster a neighbourhood that promotes those human attributes and social values that lend themselves to genuine human encounter – love, understanding, beauty, goodness, truth and trustworthiness, joy and hope. I suppose a few questions we could ask ourselves are: Do we stand up for the truth when we encounter hate groups, cyberbullying or ‘fake news’ online? Are our online actions characterised by faith and love, patience and gentleness?

There’s some exciting sporting news for the local community, with Gregory Hills Football Club set to launch as a new club in the Macarthur District competition in 2020.

The newly formed club was set up this year, with the anticipated first games kicking off next year. Gregory Hills FC’s home ground will be Cunningham Park in Gregory Hills.

“We have had significant interest from a number of individuals and teams, though at this time we are planning on limiting numbers in our first season. We’ll be focussing on players ranging from the Under 6’s to the Under 11’s to set a strong foundation for the club to grow and also not to over extend the volunteers that will be guiding the club throughout it’s first year” explained Gregory Hills FC’s Christopher Martin to the Oran Park Gazette.

“Many of us have children that already participate in the beautiful game around the area. We hope that every child that comes can enjoy the same benefits the game has given our own children – be it a healthier lifestyle, social aspects or simply greater confidence in themselves” he added.

The Macarthur Art Group is a welcoming and friendly group of people who enjoy all forms of fine art, water colour, acrylic and oils, pastels, drawing and sketching.

The local group meets monthly in the Ironbark Room, upstairs at the Narellan Library, from 11:00am until 12:00pm. The meeting is usually followed by either a sketch group or a demonstration.

There is an annual fee of $25 per person or $40 per couple.

The first visit is complimentary.

New members are warmly welcomed, no matter whether they are complete beginners or very experienced artists. The group offers so much help and advice to those who are wanting to develop or begin their journey into art, either as a hobby or at a more professional level.

Apart from their monthly meetings and follow up activities, there are art classes run by their experienced artists, art displays where work can be purchased, and many exhibitions run throughout the year.

Following their meeting on 30th November, they are having a demonstration by popular artist Diana Garth, who will be working with water soluble oils (involving no use of turps). In the new year, they are planning several local exhibitions – including Mount Annan Shopping Centre, Narellan Town Centre and the Camden Library. There will also be more demonstrations at their monthly meetings throughout the year.
