Jordan Springs Residents Take The Field On New Village Oval Residents at Jordan Springs are set to enjoy more time outside with family and friends, with the opening of the new Village Oval.

Set across 5.5 hectares, the Village Oval offers something for people of all ages and fitness levels with basketball and netball courts, gym and Parkour circuits, and a learn-to-ride circuit for kids. For those who prefer to relax with friends, family or their favourite pet, the Village Oval has picnic and BBQ areas and an off-leash dog park.

General Manager NSW/ACT Communities, Arthur Illias, said the Village Oval was an important part of the Jordan Springs master planned community. “The Village Oval brings together the community of Jordan Springs, linking its existing and future parks and forming a network of over 1,845m of running, cycling and walking pathways,” Mr Illias said. “Designed as a place that brings people together, we look forward to hosting community events, festivals and markets at the Village Oval in the future.

We will host the first of these events, a community celebration to mark the opening of the Village Oval, which will be held later this year.” During its nine-month construction, over 260 new trees were planted to provide shade for residents enjoying the parkland. The Village Oval is also the first designated Parkour park in Australia. Developed in partnership with Parkour NSW, it includes a Parkour circuit that allows users to see the location in a new way and imagine different ways to move around it.

New Owners For Llandilo Post Office The community of Llandilo has welcomed new owners of the Post Office, with Jenny and Raj Rana taking over the business earlier this year.

The husband and wife team have already felt at home with the local support from the people in Llandilo and surrounding suburbs. “We love the community feel of Llandilo. Everyone has been very welcoming towards us and we are very thankful for this� said Jenny Rana.

How can we argue for the efficacy of the crucifixion after some 2000 plus years?

First it is grounded in Jesus the Christ’s life, death and resurrection which effected the lives of the first Christians. They recognized in the crucifixion a new dimension to life was evident.

Second: that new dimension entailed that for the first time in religious history the act of forgiveness became a reality. For the individual, the group, society at large, forgiveness is that which enables a fresh start: Jesus said ‘your sin is forgiven- go and sin no more’.

Third: in forgiveness the efficacy of the crucifixion is found in the acceptance and the working out in life recognizing that a new dimension in the power of the Holy Spirit is achieved.

Fourth: placed within the context of world history this efficacy is very new with most arguing that human life is up to 40000 years old and in itself a mere ‘blink’ in the overall history of the universe.

Fifth: the efficacy of the crucifixion placed in this context still holds firm with the growth of religious thought and practice that is a fascinating growth that has travelled many ways. What the crucifixion has done is to provide a definitive answer to the religious dimension in life. Sadly the efficacy that can enable and unite has because of human weakness continually been distorted.

But when accepted and embraced allows creativity and a new life.

So why the crucifixion? Simply because Jesus in challenging

the religious and political ethos in his day was executed for daring to challenge with the question “who do you think I am?”

2000 plus years have passed but the challenge and the power of forgiveness continue to be accepted and lived.

Livvi’s Place On Track For October Opening

Construction is well underway for the new Livvi’s Place facility in Jordan Springs with the project team at Lend Lease happy with the progress, making way for the anticipated Opening Party next month.

For Touched By Olivia Foundation’s Executive Officer Bec Ho, the purpose built playground has been carefully planned and designed and is something that the people and community have to look forward to when it opens. “We heard you in the consultation process. We’ve got heaps of shade; the best water play I have ever seen, a wheelchair accessible carousel and it is fully fenced. It’s very exciting” she said.

In less than 10 years, Touched by Olivia Foundation have already opened 19 Livvi’s Places across Australia. The playspaces are underpinned by the principles of universal design and reinforce the basic right that every child needs to play. “The goal is to make sure that every member of the Penrith community can play. Our ultimate goal is to be a redundant organisation, because every child can play in their community” explained Executive Officer Bec Ho. The Livvi’s Place Jordan Springs Opening Party will take place on Sunday 16th October from 11:00am to 12:00pm at the Northern Road Oval in Jordan Springs. The event promises to be a massive celebration and everyone is invited to come along and play. There will be live music and lots of fun with special guests to be announced. Continuing Our Series on Parent Traps…

Parents sometimes fall into the trap of threatening children, giving up, or being inconsistent in their approach to child behaviour. Here are some more parent traps…

• Discipline that is threatened but the parent does not follow through. When a parent does not follow through with a consequence, children learn that the parent doesn’t mean what s/he says. Some children can interpret a threat as a dare.

The biggest threat I hear most often from parents is the one that starts about six weeks before Christmas – “if you are not good, Santa won’t bring you any presents”. This type of threat is ineffective because it is too far in the future. It sounds like a desperate attempt by the parent to control the child’s behaviour, and does not give the child immediate feedback on his/her behaviour.

• Parents allow children to get away with the behaviour, until the parent becomes angry. When you are angry you are at risk of losing control and hurting your child.

• Parents are inconsistent. One day we will follow through, the next day we let it go, and the next day we give up.

Children need consistency, otherwise they do not know what is expected of them.

• Parents aren’t working as a team. One parent may be permissive, the other parent may be too harsh. The parents may argue about their differences of opinion in front of the children.

The best type of parenting for children has a high amount of warmth and care, and realistic expectations.

Parents need to respond to their child’s behaviour in an immediate, consistent, and decisive manner. Children learn new skills and behaviours through being reminded and corrected on a daily basis. Consequences should be related to the child’s mistaken behaviour, and should not threaten a child’s sense of worth or self-esteem. Consequences also need to be able to be followed through, and issued when the behaviour is occurring.

Jordan Springs is an exciting place to live with the rapid development of new houses, apartments, and great community facilities. There is a dynamic ‘vibe’ about theplace – for good reason. We all know it takes more than building materials to build a home. A good home is made by the atmosphere of relationships of those who dwell there. Jesus taught about the importance of building a house upon a solid foundation. You can read about it in the Bible (Matthew 7: 24-28). Of course, Jesus was not speaking so much about building construction but about the importance of building one’s life on faith in God who is like a “rock” when we face stormy times.

No home has a perfect atmosphere, but it is something for which we should aim. I encourage you to start fresh here in Jordan Springs, by seeking to build a home with an atmosphere of love, peace and happiness - and now is the perfect time to establish the right foundation. As Jesus said, “a wise man builds his house on the rock”. If you wish to do this, I encourage you to connect with a local church or join one of the Jordan Springs Connect Groups. Two Connect Groups of C3 Church, Penrith, meet regularly in Jordan Springs – one primarily for older folk (like me) and the other more suited to young families and single people. Peter Pan Comes To Town!

This musical is full of upbeat songs that the audience will keep singing long after the show ends.

WHAT’S HAPPENING AT... LLANDILO PUBLIC SCHOOL?

Pre-School Early Learning @ Llandilo Llandilo Public School offers an extensive Kindergarten orientation and transition program to support students beginning school. Preschool Early Learning @ Llandilo (PELL) runs for 10 weeks and is followed by more traditional orientation and transition sessions.

PELL aims to provide children with the opportunity to experience pre-school activities in the ‘big school’ setting, enabling them to become familiar with the school and teachers.

Our families have commented that the extended nature of PELL makes the transition to school easier for their children and themselves.

Each Monday morning, teachers from Llandilo Public School run a range of early learning activities, providing the prospective kindies with the opportunity to build familiarity with the school.

Each week, the children gain confidence and comfort within their new learning environment.

The formal Kindergarten Orientation and Transition program will begin at the completion of PELL and run for 4 weeks. Students

will again participate in a range of early learning activities to support their development and preparation for starting Kindergarten. Parent information sessions will be offered during these visits to provide information on how to support early literacy and numeracy development. Opportunities will also be provided for parents to meet the people that will be involved in their child’s learning and become more conversant with school routines.

A Mothers Story...........

When my youngest son was 6 months old, knowing we had a pool, there was no question about whether or not we would start swimming lessons.

Suddenly the beautiful pool in the backyard had become a deathtrap in my mind for my child who wasn’t yet able to swim. From that time on, swimming lessons have been a constant fixture in our lives, and, especially in Water Babies, swimming lessons represented one on one time, in the midst of a very busy life.

When my daughter came along 2 years later, she was also enrolled in swimming lessons at 6 months of age. All was well, until she graduated to the level where I was not in the water with her during lessons - and then all hell broke loose! Thank goodness for the lovely staff , reassuring me that her screaming would subside if I just stuck with it – so I did stick with it, for 6 long weeks of constant screaming, with me standing outside in the carpark, feeling very emotional, and wondering if it was all worth it? But, with a pool in the backyard, swimming lessons were absolutely non-negotiable.

Fast forward 3 years, to last week - when my girl was promoted to the next level, bragging to anyone who would listen - and I know I made the right choice to continue.

Which is very good timing, as I now also have another toddler who is going through a stage where he is very resistant to

Kevin is Deputy Captain at Llandilo Brigade and the longest serving bushfire fighter in the Penrith area. He fought his first fire more than 50 years ago, and has been awarded the Order of Australia Medal and the Centenary Medal for service to the Bushfire Brigades and Local Government.

Kevin has been a resident of Llandilo for 60 years, and with his wife raised a family of 3 boys and a girl. A fitter and machinist by trade he enjoys swimming, fishing and skiing.

Kevin was president for 5 years and was made a Life Member of Llandilo P&C. He was also president of Cranebrook High School P&C for five years. President of the Llandilo Hall Committee, he was a Patron of the Nepean Historical Society and Trustee and of the Penrith Show Society.

Kevin has been a Councillor on Penrith Council 1974-1977 & 1987-1999 and 2004-2016, a Deputy Mayor in 1988 and the Mayor in 1996, 2009 2010.

During his time on Council Kevin has stopped the closure of Vincent Road at Cranebrook, succeeded in bringing traffic lights to Borrowdale and Sherringham Road. Kevin formed the Western Sydney Alliance which previously stopped the Badgery's Creek Airport and instigated the Council's opposition to the development of the A.D.I. site.

As Mayor, Kevin worked tirelessly and was responsible for getting the White Water Stadium for the Olympic Games which is now a tourist attraction for Penrith. Other achievements include ... gutter cut outs for prams and wheelchairs, the tarring of rural roads and rural garbage service.

Kevin initiated many improvements for the community not only upgrading necessary fire fighting equipment, but also improvements in the areas of health, transport and education.

Geoff Brown - Cranebrook Geoff lives in Cranebrook and has 6 children He was president of the Western Sydney Conservation Alliance and ADI Resident Action Group. managed to stop the development of housing on bush land at Vincent rd., to make it a wonderful 181 hectare nature reserve Geoff started supervised bush care groups in Cranebrook and UWS Kingswood Stopped the transfer of emus from Jordan springs. Geof secured $37.5 million for nature conservation from the federal government part of which was used for the Cranebrook wet lands and new walking tracks Geoff opposes the shut down of greyhound racing, he is active with harness racing, both as an owner and breeder Geof started the Werrington Festival and Plays guitar with a local band.

Kathy Rae - Cambridge Park as a Lifetime resident of Penrith, Kathy is devoted to the local community, twice honoured Penrith City Council award recipient Penrith City Council Wall of Achievement recipient 2005 and Penrith City Council Australia Day Award recipient 2009.

She has volunteered for many community groups including Red Cross, St John Ambulance Cadets, Nursing Mothers, Police Citizen Youth Club, Cambridge Park Lions Club, Parents and Citizens Association at Cambridge Gardens Public School and Cambridge Park High School.

Kathy has worked with Telstra for 18 years, has been involved for 10 years with Werrington Community Project. She has completed TAFE studies at Nepean, Richmond and Mt Druitt Kathy has been involved in Penrith Slimmers, the Nepean Family and Carers Mental Health Education and Support Group, an advocate raising awareness for Diabetes and an athlete with Nepean Athletics Club, a committee member of Park Run Penrith and has completed 150 runs.

Larry Bagnall - Castlereagh Larry has lived in Castlereagh for 45 years.

He has a wife, Carol two children and three grandchildren. Larry has been a member of the Rural Fire Service for 42 years, fighting fires in our district, as well as country areas and interstate.

He was president of the Castlereagh Hall Committee and president of the Castlereagh Centenary Committee.

Larry believes every councillor should be independent, allowing them to use their own judgement and make decisions that is best for the local area. Decisions should not be made at the direction of a remote political party. He also believes that to represent a ward you should live in that ward.

It is for these reasons that he made the decision to align himself with the North Ward Independents.

1/2 (450g) bunch silverbeet 3 zucchinis 1 cob corn, husks removed 60ml (1/4 cup) extra virgin olive oil 1 onion, finely chopped 400g can chickpeas, rinsed, drained 80g (1 cup) grated parmesan 50g (1/3 cup) semi-dried tomatoes, roughly chopped 80g slice day-old bread, crusts removed, cut into 6mm pieces 1 bunch dill, roughly chopped 6 eggs, lightly beaten

Trim 5cm from silverbeet stems and discard. Cut stems from leaves.

Cut stems into 5cm lengths, then cut into julienne (matchsticks).

Cut leaves into 4cm-wide strips. Cook stems in boiling salted water for 5 minutes. Add leaves and cook for a further 5 minutes or until both are tender. Drain, refresh under running water, then pat dry well with paper towel.

Meanwhile, grate zucchinis into a bowl. Using your hands, squeeze to remove excess liquid. Place corn cob upright on a chopping board and cut kernels away from cob.

Heat 2 tablespoons oil in a deep, heavy-based, 26cm ovenproof frying pan over medium heat. Add onion and cook, stirring occasionally, for 5 minutes or until soft. Add silverbeet stems and leaves, and stir for 5 minutes. Add zucchinis and corn, and stir for 3 minutes or until just soft. Tip vegetables into a large bowl to cool. Wipe pan clean and reserve.

Preheat oven to 200C fan-forced. Add chickpeas, parmesan, semidried tomatoes, bread and three-quarters of the dill to vegetables, season with salt and pepper, then stir to combine. Add eggs and stir to combine.

Heat remaining 1 tablespoon oil in reserved pan over medium– high heat. Add egg mixture, level, then cook for 5 minutes or until browned around the edge.

Transfer pan to oven and bake for a further 20 minutes or until set.

Cool in pan for 15 minutes. Top with remaining dill. Serve warm or at room temperature.

Think Spring – Think Leura!

Gardeners looking for inspiration for their own plots, or just wanting to experience the beauty of Spring in the Upper Blue Mountains, will again be flocking to the annual Leura Gardens Festival in October.

The 2016 festival will have 13 magical gardens on show, including three new to the festival and several returning after a break.

This year’s festival, the 52nd, will take place from Saturday, October 1 to Sunday, October 9, and will have several features which should make it even more appealing than usual.

Firstly, although the main festival features three more gardens than last year, the price remains the same at $25 per person for an all-gardens ticket or $5 per person per individual garden.

Secondly, the special pre-festival tours, for groups of 10+ people, will provide a private, escorted tour of four very special gardens, some of which will only be open in this pre-festival week, all for the cost of only $20 per person. These tours will be available in the week prior to the main festival, from Monday, September 26 to Friday, September 30.

Thirdly, holders of the $25 all-gardens ticket will have unlimited access to the Music in the Gardens performances held every afternoon. Several new acts will be appearing as well favourites such as the Penrith City Big Band, and the Blue Mountains Ukelele Group.

Visitors can also take home a permanent memento of the festival from the plant sales centre which will this year feature plants from four new participating nurseries, providing a much wider range of both native and exotic species. The centre will also have on sale metal garden art and an interesting range of garden tools.

RSPCA Cupcake Week 2016 A Cupcake Day is a great way to raise awareness and money for the RSPCA. We hosted not just a Cupcake Day, but a Cupcake Week at Orchard Hills Veterinary Hospital in August.

Leo had an extra Pupcake for his First Birthday! Happy Birthday Leo! Thank you to everyone who came in and donated and ate a cupcake or two. Also a huge thank you for the online donations.

We raised over $500.00 for the RSPCA with your help.

Kirsti, Kristie, Sheridan, Rachel, Stacey, Lizzie, and Jessica cooked up a storm and provided the most delicious slices, cupcakes and of course Pupcakes. Pony loved eating the Pupcakes!

Dog Lovers Show at The Hordern Pavilion Was Fantastic The Sydney Dog Lovers Show on Saturday 6th and Sunday

7th August 2016 at The Hordern Pavilion was fantastic!

Camille Brandt attended the Dog Lovers Show as a special guest of Rose-Hip Vita and took Pony the Great Dane. Camille answered numerous questions from the public at the RoseHip Vital stall. Pony was the star of attention and loved getting patted by everyone!

Lizzie and Rachel also joined in on the fun and helped answer any questions. Rachel took her Labrador Molly to the Dog Lovers Show and she loved all of the attention from everyone. At least 1000 people patted Pony and Molly over the 2 days.

Thank you to all our clients that came along and said hello. It was great to see familiar faces in a huge crowd!

The Sydney Dog Lovers Show had over 150+ exhibitors showcasing dog products and services in Australia. So many freebies!

There were so many celebrities, including Dr Katrina & The Wonderdogs, Dr Chris Brown, Dr Harry, James & Anthony (Village Vets Australia) and Peta Clark (TV and film dog trainer).

What a great weekend! We can't wait for next year!

Helping Kids Remember their Dad on Fatherâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s Day Kids are often the forgotten grievers. Adults try to protect them from the tough stuff in life. Being a kid and having your Dad die will be one of the worst things that will ever happen.

We can help and support kids through their grief, while helping you at the same time.

When you help your kids remember their Dad, youâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;re helping yourself cope with your grief (as painful as that is).

Hereâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s some activities that you and your kids can do together: 1. Tell each other stories about their Dad, the good, the bad and the ugly. This helps keep his memory alive. Let your child know that sometimes itâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s difficult to talk about and that Fatherâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s Day will be tough and upsetting.

2. Make a memory box. Select Photos, cards, and videos,

anything that reminds them of their Dad. 3. Make a scrapbook with your child. Gathering up photos and create something beautiful together.

4. Ask friends to write letters about your childâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s Dad, get together and read the letters and present them to your child as a keepsake.

5. Create a secret Face Book page for friends and family only.

The Last Word Life is tough and unbearable at times but grief changes our life forever. Choose an activity and work through it with your child. Youâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;ll talk, laugh, cry and even learn to live life again.
