McDonalds Helps Lions Youth Domenic Meduri, Licensee of McDonalds St Marys North, understands the significance of family, community and assisting local youth.

In many ways the sciences and religious faiths call for trust.

This trust is related to how we approach what in many cases we don’t understand. So reason comes into play utilizing the argument for and against. There is an old hymn that goes ‘trust and obey for there is no other way’, but obedience arising from trust must be reasonable. In this lies the challenge for Christian witness as there are many constructions on the meaning for example of ‘love’. To speak of God’s love as being exemplified by “God so loved the world that he gave his only Son that whoever believes in him will not perish” certainly is a firm basis for presenting the Faith and challenges the need to make it not only attractive but comprehensible.

Yet within the context of humanity the mystery, the beauty of the created universe co-exists with the reality of natural disaster and disease. How often do we hear “why has this happened to me?”, To direct our lives fulfilling the commandment to love God, love our fellow neighbour within this context requires searching in which it can be argued that religion as against the sciences has the foundation in giving positive response. It is within this religious response that the Faith in Christ provides the criteria. What is interesting is that the dimensions of the sciences does not diminish the spiritual quest in attempting to understand and in asking many questions to resolve the ‘why’ of existence. Thus religious belief and practice is a force, a reality that cannot be ignored. We are in a period of history that to all intents ‘information overload’ presses home the measure of how much we do not know!

Man charged after alleged M5 crash and carjacking Police have charged a man with a number of driving offences after a carjacking and a crash in the M5 tunnel at Arncliffe on Saturday.

Emergency services were called to the M5 tunnel near Marsh Street just before 12.30am (Saturday 14 September 2019), after reports of a crash and carjacking.

Police have been told that after two cars – a Mazda and Range Rover – were involved in a collision, two male occupants from a Honda stopped to render assistance, before five male occupants from the Mazda entered the Honda.

The driver of the Honda was allegedly threatened with a knife when he tried to stop it from leaving, before it drove away towards Marsh Street.

About 10.45am Monday, 16 September 2019, police attached to St George Police Area Command attended a residence on Adelaide Street, St Marys and arrested a 21-yearold man.

He was taken to Penrith Police Station and charged with aggravated take drive motor vehicle in company, two counts of driver never licensed, drive recklessly/furiously/manner dangerous, driver reckless furiously occasioning aggravated bodily harm and not give particulars to other driver.

He was refused bail to appear at Penrith Local Court the following day.

Blue Datto Calling for Community Support Local charity the Blue Datto Foundation is calling for community support leading into their major annual fundraiser.

Blue Datto’s Gala Dinner will take place on Saturday 19th October at the Hawkesbury Race Club and there are several ways you can get involved to help the Foundation save lives on our roads.

Over the last 10 years, a staggering 3,115 young people have been killed on Australian roads including ‘the kid in the Blue Datto’ Philip Vassallo, the 17-year-old son of Blue Datto CoFounder Colleen Vassallo.

“Blue Datto was founded in the Hawkesbury and we’ve been overwhelmed by the generosity of the local community who have helped us achieve so much in the last five years” said Colleen.

“Since launching the Foundation in 2016, we’ve educated more than 17,000 young people across the Greater Western Sydney region, and this wouldn’t have been possible without our amazing community”.

He may have only been competing for just two years, but it’s clear to see that Jordan Springs student Axton Glendenning is a natural when it comes to cheer and dance.

The 11-year-old, who dances for You Can Dance (YCD) in Emu Plains, is a member of the successful team that recently won a 2020 Pinnacle Bid to compete at The Summit Championships at Disneyworld Orlando in May next year.

Axton’s YCD teammates won the 2019 State Titles just last month and are the current National Titlists, having won last year. They will defend the National Title next month in what is expected to be a fiercely fought competition.

The ambitious local has also secured a place at the Nepean Creative and Performing Arts School in Emu Plains next year.

His audition consisted of a contemporary dance routine and, although he didn’t have a lot of experience in this style, he impressed the panel.

“The best thing I enjoy about dance and cheer is the friends that I’ve made. I like competing with my teammates and coaches. I especially love flipping and tumbling” said an excited Axton.

With his sights set firmly on competing at The Summit Championships in the US next year, Axton’s goal now is to raise funds for the trip overseas with his family. A golf day and trivia night are being planned for later in the year. r Axton Glendenning at the Nationals | Image Supplied

My name is Kobhi and I am 9 years old. I love to help my Mum and Dad cook yummy food in the kitchen.

Each month, I will share with you some of my favourite recipes. Oh yeah, make sure you always have an adult helping you cook.

Cookies & Cream Ice Cream

Ingredients

600ml of cream One can of condensed milk One teaspoon of vanilla essence Five chocolate cookies Method

1. Your adult helper needs to beat the cream with a mixer until it starts to get thick (Mum calls that thicken).

2. Add the vanilla essence and beat it until a lightly whipped cream is made. This is another step for your helper.

3. Add the condensed milk. Make sure you keep beating it until it starts to get thick and turns into a nice cream.

4. Crush the cookies. This is my favourite step! Try not to eat the cookies ; ) 5. The next step for your helper is to keep beating the cream and to add the cookies (Yummo) 6. Pour all the ingredients into a container that has a lid on it to seal it. Put it into the freezer until it goes hard. We made the ice cream at night and put it in the freezer overnight for about 8 hours.

7. Ready to serve.

With the bushfire season upon us, Llandilo Rural Fire Brigade (RFB) would like the local community to be prepared by having a Bushfire Survival Plan in place.

Llandilo RFB Captain Rick Burns said, “The bushfire danger period has already started (on the 1st of September) and I’m sure everyone has seen how bad the fires have already been to the north of the state and in Queensland. If you live in a bushfire prone area, make sure you family has a Bushfire Survival Plan.

This month will also see Llandilo RFB Cadets participating in the Australian Fire Cadet Championships at Wesley Vision Valley in New South Wales.

“Our team of 6 youngsters (between 12 to 16 years of age) will be competing against other cadet teams from the NSW RFS, SES and Fire Agencies from around Australia. Our Cadets have been training since the beginning of the year and I’m so very proud of the kids’ hard work and effort they have all put in, supported by the senior members of our brigade in helping with their training” explained Rick.

As part of their fundraising, Llandilo RFB have just completed their Bunnings BBQ on the Get Ready Weekend. Right now, they are in the middle of a station rejuvenation.

“We’re trying to bring Llandilo RFB Station up to the 21st century. We’re spending some of the funds that the generous people of the local area have donated to us over the years for that goal, so that we can better serve our local area and wherever we may be called” commented Rick.

If you would like more information about becoming an RFS Volunteer, you can visit Llandilo RFB Station on Seventh Avenue in Llandilo. The brigade members meet at the station every Tuesday night from 7:00pm. You can also make membership enquiries through the RFS website. As we are in fire season, member training is dependent upon how busy Spring and Summer is for the brigade operationally.

For those of you who can’t wait for the annual Llandilo RFB Santa Run to Jordan Springs, Rick has this message, “We haven’t locked in a specific date just yet, but Llandilo Brigade has every intention on providing transport for Santa to visit most of the parks in Jordan Springs. Of course, it depends if our trucks are not fighting fires, but we will try our best not to disappoint Santa and the kids of Jordan Springs. Developing a Positive Relationship with your Child Phil Nunn, an Australian psychologist, says that parenting is like having a rope around your waist. Parenting is all about knowing when to let the rope out and when to reel it in.

I take this metaphor a little bit further. The rope around your waist is the relationship you have with your child.

No rope = no relationship. Without a relationship there is no letting out and no reeling in. Your child is flailing about at the end of the rope without being hitched to something. That’s a dangerous and scary place for a child to be. In my experience most of these kids can look angry or overly independent.

Without a strong and positive parent-child relationship, your child will not listen to you and will not do as you ask. It really is that simple. Having a relationship with your child is the most important thing that you can do as a parent.

I reckon that building a relationship is about 80% of the parenting effort. So, if you are disciplining and punishing your children about 80% of the time, then think about taking an about-turn, and concentrate on the relationship instead, and see how that changes things.

So, how do you develop a positive relationship with your child?

Hugs, touch, care, unconditional love, attention, spending time with them, descriptive praise, nurture, listening to them when they talk, are relationship builders.

Things like put-downs, name calling, criticism, teasing, telling them that they are ‘bad’ or ‘naughty’, and swearing at your kids are relationship killers.

Dr Robyn Dolby also uses the rope metaphor to explain how parents relate to their children. She says that if your child is used to being out on the end of the rope most of the time, then you need to reel the rope IN very slowly.

The same can be said for children who have been kept too close and too controlled (over protected) or kids who experience anxiety. You need to let the rope OUT very slowly, so they don’t get scared.

Relationship. It is essential to growing strong, resilient, healthy, and happy humans.

Jordan Springs Probus Club Our latest meeting was well attended with the speaker for the day being a representative from the LEEP organisation, whose objective is to enable people to use technology in an increasingly digital world. LEEP provides one-on-one training and mentoring in a local venue.

The outing for August was the Queen Forever stage show at Penrith Panthers Club with a very enjoyable dinner at the Ming Chinese Restaurant prior to the show. The Tuesday lunch for August was the Jamison Hotel in Penrith.

Members can look forward to an exciting program; featuring interesting guest speakers, monthly meetings, the opportunity to travel and enjoy exclusive discounts through the Probus Member Benefits Scheme. Parent-Teacher Interviews

Throughout the year, schools take several opportunities to connect with families and share progress of the student. One such way is through Parent-Teacher Interviews, sometimes referred to as ParentTeacher Conferences. Most schools will hold interviews once or twice a year and they are often held around the time half-yearly and yearly reports are sent out.

To make the most out of interviews, you should aim to do the following three things: 1. Be positive and confident - teachers and schools genuinely want the best for your child, just as you do. A positive partnership between home and school is proven to increase student achievement and well-being.

2. Prepare any questions you have – no question is too small, big or silly. Close friends and Leonay Golf Club clubmates Andrew Carruthers and Reece Johnstone (both of Jordan Springs) have taken out one of the prestigious events on the Club calendar, winning the 2019 Division One Match-Play Title.

Carruthers and Johnstone had finished 5th in the Foursomes Stroke-Play Championships, to qualify for the Match-Play event, whilst opponents Daniel Worthy and Kris Zvirbulis were runners-up in the Stroke-Play Championships.

Both pairs won through their qualifying games to reach the Match-Play Final, with Carruthers and Johnstone and Zvirbulis to win on the 19th ENTERoutlasting CODEWorthy ONLINE: hole.
