Lucy Burnitt has won three major awards at the University of Technology, Sydney’s annual Design, Architecture and Building Prize Ceremony.

The Bachelor of Property Economics student received $13,500 in cash prizes after being awarded the Stockland Ervin Graf Scholarship, the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors Property Economic Prize and the Australian Property Institute Year Prize.

The plans include another supermarket, a Big W department store, 25 specialty shops, restaurants, commercial floor space and three levels of car parking. There will be a new children’s play area, open space and landscaping and it should all be starting before Christmas!

Glenmore Park Street Names - Kylie Tennant Close Do you know the meaning of your street name?

Kylie Tennant is best known as a writer and has a plaque dedicated to her in the pavement near the Opera House. She was born in Manly in 1912 and in the course of her working life she was employed as a journalist, barmaid, publicity officer for the ABC, church sister, reviewer and lecturer. She considered it important to gain first-hand knowledge of the social worlds which figure in her novels. In the interests of authenticity she took to the roads with the unemployed during the Great Depression, lived in the slums of Sydney and with Aboriginal communities, travelled with itinerant bee-keepers and went so far as to spend a week in gaol.

Kylie Tennant wrote a number of fiction and non-fiction works, including numerous novels, an autobiography, several works for children and a biography of the former Labor leader, H.V. Evatt. She was awarded the Order of Australia in 1980 and died in 1988. Two of Tennant's novels, Battlers and Ride on Stranger, set in the 1930s have been made into television mini-series.

You would’ve noticed how in recent times, increasingly people have been asking questions about marriage.

What is marriage? Who should get married? Does marriage still have a place in today’s world? Why get married at all and not just live together? They’re all big questions! Some even want to change the definition of marriage saying that it should no longer be just between a man and a woman.

But at Glenmore Park Anglican Church we are so encouraged to see how many people still recognise that marriage is God’s good gift and plan ever since the first married couple – Adam and Eve!

The Bible teaches that marriage is a loving, lifelong commitment between a man and a woman and is the establishment of a new family and home.

At our Church, to support couples as they plan and Eric Stoakes and Amy Weissel look forward to Married on 28th May 2011 their marriage, we work through a series of sessions to help them think though the strengths and weaker areas of their relationship. In the marriage service we pray for the couple, that they will be able to centre their lives on God and that He will help them to keep the promises they have made to one another. But not only this, as a couple grows in their marriage they have the model of Jesus to encourage them and look to. Jesus was always looking to put the needs of others ahead of himself. Jesus’ model of sacrificial love and care and concern for others is the model on which a couple can build their relationship even through the very toughest of times.

Federal Member for Lindsay, the Hon David Bradbury MP attended the official opening of the new facilities at Regentville Public School which was funded under the Building the Education Revolution program.

The School received $200,000 under the National School Pride program for the refurbishment of buildings, walkways and paved surfaces through out the school. Additional items that have been funded include new home readers for the classrooms, educational play equipment for Kindergarten classes, support materials for new Mathematics and Literacy initiatives, regular financial support for students who make representational level in any given field, and new paved area near the school library, where effort and materials have been donated.

With the main school field refurbishment there has been parental involvement for approximately six months and cost savings of tens of thousands of dollars. There has also been a funding contributing to the resurfacing of the multi-use tennis court.

The bulk of this has been made possible through the strong relationship the president, Fiona Stevens, has forged with the school. She is a working mum who also spends her free time ensuring that she is aware of issues at the school, works with parents who need P&C advice, and also spends a considerable amount of her own time organising many of the fund-raising efforts that the P&C undertake.

Luke Priddis Foundation LEGO Club Expressions of Interest for Glenmore Park.

Local children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) are invited to take part in a new LEGO Club at Glenmore Park High School. Facilitated by the Luke Priddis Founda-

tion, the ASD LEGO Club is for kids in grades 6 to 9 and their parents/carers.

The LEGO Club will give ASD children the opportunity to join in a structured group within a safe non-judgemental environment, to help them increase their social skills. LEGO Club will be held at Glenmore Park High School, Glenmore Parkway, Glenmore Park.

The time and day will be arranged but it will be an after school activity.

Parents/Carers will attend the LEGO Club with their child and will be responsible for their child at all times.

THIS IS NOT A DROP-OFF PROGRAM. Parents/Carers can observe in the group and have the opportunity to meet parents/carers in similar circumstances.

Shaina’s life saving birthday gift Shaina McIlwaine and her class mates from Glenmore Park High School made a great contribution for saving lives with their blood donations.

Sadly more blood donors are needed – especially as the weather gets colder and people are effected by colds and flu making them temporarily unable to donate. Most people are able to donate if they are fit and well and aged between 16 – 70. Shaina managed to save 3 people’s lives on her birthday – and wants you to do your bit “Its fun and easy and not as scary as you think” she says.

New Owners for Gloria Jean’s Café Yasmin and Chris Fitzgerald and their young family have lived in Glenmore Park for 8 years and are already well known in the community. Yasmin was working in a local real estate office and Chris is a coach with the under 7s Brumbies junior rugby league club. They are very excited to have taken over the café. They have both been fully trained by Gloria Jean’s and are qualified baristas.

Scout Job Month 1st South Penrith Scouts and Cubs will be out and about during July 2011 looking for jobs to do in the community for a small donation.

Jobs can range from gardening, cleaning cars or shoes, walking pets or washing windows.

Fantastic Open Day with Dr Chris Brown!

Wow, what a fantastic response we had to our Open Day on Saturday 4th June 2011. Thank you so much for everyone who attended on the day.

A crowd is made up of 1 person at a time, and we appreciate each and every one of you. We estimate approximately 2000-2500 people attended the Open Day and 88 dogs were here (my nephew counted them all).

How nice is Dr Chris Brown!!! He gave everyone his undivided attention whilst he was signing autographs and having his picture taken. This made waiting in the queue to see him worthwhile. Dr Chris Brown is the real deal and he genuinely cares about animals and the people as well.

We had a special VIP meeting with our top 40 clients in our waiting room with Dr Chris Brown. The VIP guests wore back stage VIP passes, which were signed by Dr Chris Brown. The VIP guests were also served coffee and cake.

The hospital tours were very popular. Penny (a 5th year veterinary student) showed many people through the hospital and explained all of the different pieces of equipment that we have. We know what we do in our hospital and a hospital tour is a great way for you to see what goes on behind our doors.

The dog competitions were very popular and the winners received a large bag full of goodies kindly do-

nated by Merial, Hills, Bayer, Pfizer, Dermcare, Pets Charming and DCH Adoptions. The 1st, 2nd and 3rd places also received a certificate signed by Dr Chris Brown who judged the competitions. The winners of the dog competitions, the lucky door prize and the Dulux dog raffle are listed below: • Lucky door prize won by Kylie • Dulux dog raffle (kindly donated

by Barry Thomson) and won by JudyLooks most like their owner: 1st ‘Brian’, Camouflage outfit 2nd ‘Cuddles’, dyed pink hair.

3rd ‘Lulu’, biker outfit Best trick: 1st ‘Sherbie’, figure of 8 between the owners legs 2nd ‘Zeus’, picked up a dog lead and went for a walk 3rd ‘Bella’, jumped up into owners arms and was caught by the owner.

Best dressed: 1st ‘Rosie, Bindy, Jake, Cougar, Cookie, Squid’, family of Chihuahuas all dressed up in cute outfits 2nd ‘Bailey’, Aussie outfit 3rd ‘Lucy’, hula outfit A special thank you to Isaac who was Dr Chris Brown’s personal assistant on the Open Day. Isaac is nearly 11 years old, and he showed extreme bravery when his dog Scrum was bitten by a snake last year.

Another special thank you to all of our volunteers who helped out on the day. We could not have done it without you all! Thank you for working in the carpark, the jumping castles,

and the BBQ. Thank you’s go out to: Mark, Travis, Josh, Michelle, Kirrilee and family, Karen, Carina, Pete, Chrissy and family, Belinda’s family, and Camille’s family. We hope you enjoy the signed book by Dr Chris Brown!

The Penrith Anglican College had a successful face painting and cake stall fund raiser. The sausage sizzle raised money for the Guide Dogs.
