Mobile Black Spot Programme Delivers Significant Coverage Benefits To Lindsay Residents of Glenmore Park (Ridge), Castlereagh, Londonderry and Mulgoa will finally be able to send a SMS or make a phone call without having to walk around their property looking for adequate mobile phone coverage, as new and upgraded mobile base stations for the Penrith LGA have been announced as part of the Australian Government’s $100 million Mobile Black Spot Program. Federal Member for Lindsay, Fiona Scott MP said she was pleased to be able to deliver the good news to residents who had been fighting for adequate coverage. “Last year in August, I called for residents to identify where mobile black spots were in Lindsay,” Fiona Scott said. “On Facebook, more than 20 people posted areas known for poor mobile coverage including Shane Skeen who said ‘Glenmore Park was terrible’. Another was Alexander Van Der Blom who identified Mulgoa, Glenmore Park and Glenmore Ridge as having poor coverage. “These comments were then delivered to the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Communications, Paul Fletcher, for new or improved mobile coverage under the Mobile Fiona Scott MP and Federal Communications Minister Malcolm Turnbull Black Spot Programme. inspecting communication upgrades in the electorate.

Do I Really Need to go to Church? Once upon a time, it was easy to go to Church! People woke up to a leisurely Sunday, strolling down to the local Church, then off for a relaxing day catching up with family and friends. How times have changed! Now Sundays are crammed with sport, shopping, work, ballet, meetings, driving children here, there and everywhere, with a week’s worth of housework and shopping all crammed into one day! Who has time for Church anymore? Why go to Church anyway – is it still relevant in our hectic, 21st Century lifestyle? Church is even more relevant today! The more hectic our life becomes, the more people want to squeeze God out of their life. That’s just when we need to be squeezing Him back into our life! God is the one who created us, knows us and loves us. He is the one who knows how we can have true happiness, deep peace, real purpose and direction in life. He knows the most fulfilling way for us to live. That is why it is so important to make time to go to Church, so you can get to know our wonderful God, get your life back into perspective, and be part of a group of people who also know that there is more to life than the busyness around them. It is great that so many people in Glenmore Park already know how important God is to their life and how important it is to go to Church and to be part of a church. So much so, that at our Church, our 8.30am, 10.15am and 5pm and 7pm Sunday services are full of adults, teenagers and children who have the discovered the real difference that knowing Jesus does make to life. Glenmore Park is located 59 kilometres west of the Sydney central business district. Glenmore Park is south of Jamisontown and South Penrith with its boundary being the M4 Motorway. The suburbs of Regentville and Mulgoa are located to its west and south, while Orchard Hills runs along its eastern boundary with the Northern Road as its dividing line. The recorded population of Glenmore Park in the 2011 census was 20,273. Residents are primarily young families living in detached houses. The median age of people in the suburb was only 31, a little younger than the national median of 37. 60.9% were couples with children compared to the national average of 44.6%. The majority of houses in the area are detached (91.2%) and most of them were being paid off (58.4%) rather than owned outright (19.2%) or rented (21.1%). The median household income ($1,930 per week) was substantially higher than the national median ($1,223). Little Big Dash Comes to Sydney: 10 Fun Obstacles Over 3 Kms!

Little BIG DASH is an obstacle adventure full of colour, fun and guaranteed laughs designed for families to enjoy getting active together. Thousands of ‘Dashers’, in parent and child teams, are anticipated to go wild over a three kilometre course at Sydney International Regatta Centre, Penrith. Parent-child teams of two to six members will explore ten colourful obstacle stages together, including dancing through the Donut Dash, dodging the Big Blob Balls, navigating through the Bubble Blast and tackling the giant Rumble Tumble Tower, and a new inflatable Footy Frenzy stage. Australian Cricket Legend Brett Lee said he was delighted to be the ambassador for Little BIG DASH. “I'm a big kid at heart and this event gives me the opportunity to release that inner-child while having heaps of fun with the children.” “Each stage of Little BIG DASH is designed to bring so much enjoyment for parent and child that the exercise sharing is incidental,” said Lee.
At the final Hand Stand, ‘Dashers’ create a unique memento by exchanging hand prints in fun patterns on their Little BIG DASH shirts. There is no doubt that Pope Francis, installed as Pope a little over two years ago, has raised the profile of this office enormously. He hasn’t done this through stern pronouncements, flowery rhetoric or shows of grandeur. He has impressed people, Catholic and non-Catholic alike, with his down to earth approach to the issues which are of greatest concern to many people. These issues include concern for the poor, the oppressed, and, most recently, the environment, made clear by the recent publishing of his second encyclical, Laudato si’. Concern for the poor, whatever form poverty may take, was a major theme of the ministry of Jesus. Jesus recognised in those who were on the fringes of society people who often knew their need of God, usually because they had little else on which to pin their hopes. Whilst in South America recently, the continent of his homeland, Argentina, Pope Francis focused a great deal on promoting justice for the poor, who make up a large portion of the population of the countries he visited: Ecuador, Bolivia and Paraguay. He urged those in power to have concern for those with little or no power and to promote justice, both economic and social. Of course, Pope Francis said much more but these concerns formed the core of his message. So often people feel that the Church is focused on just one or two issues, such as human sexuality or ensuring Catholics attend Sunday Mass. Pope Francis is helping people understand that the Church’s concerns are much broader and that they accord with those of the Church’s founder, Jesus. The concerns of the Pope are the concerns of all those who follow Jesus. We thank Pope Francis for reminding us of what is most important as Christians – compassion, mercy, justice and love. Solar – Myths and Legends My name is James (Jim) Hill and I own and operate Nepean Solar Solutions, a locally based company in Penrith. I am a licensed electrical contractor and accredited Solar PV Designer and Installer. There are many misconceptions revolving around the renewable energy sector and in particular the Solar Energy market and I would like to clear a few of these up. First and most important of all. Sun The sun still rises and sets every day, day after day. The sun produces energy. No-one taxes sunlight (yet!). Government Rebates There are very attractive rebates in the form of STC’s available to you which are generally given at point of sale that bring the price of a typical 4.0kw system down to around $5,000.00. That is double the size and less than the price than 2011. Feed-In Tariffs These are very much smaller than those offered a few years ago and now tend to be around $0.05 per kWh. But we don’t sell it now we use what we produce. Electricity Costs Electricity now costs between $0.23 and $0.26 per kWhr. It is common knowledge that this will continue to rise in the future. In 2011 the same electricity cost $0.18 per kWhr resulting in an increase of over 30% in four years. How Do We Measure Your Solar Requirements? Soul Matters: How God Satisfies Our Souls The Bible says that God will satisfy our souls. Can you identify a cry in your own soul? Most people would say that God is everywhere, but this alone is not enough. One of the writers of the psalms claimed that God would: “satisfy you with wild honey from the rock.� (Ps. 81:16), and this gives us some insight into how we can find the sweetness of God’s love to satisfy our souls when we feel empty, tired out, confused or hurt. The delicious, sweet honey is “wild�- in the bush. If something is “wild� it is not domesticated; it is beyond our control, unrestrained and irregular, unpredictable, but can be intense and passionate. “Wild� things aren’t found within our neat boundaries – our ideas about God that are acceptable to our friends, or our appearances of having it all together. Think about the wild brumbies in the iconic movie Man from Snowy River. To find one you must venture beyond the fence. At first you might think, “Yeah, right. There are no brumbies here.� And at just such a moment a brumby gallops out of nowhere so loudly and exuberantly that everything comes alive! Your senses are blessed, and in the same way when we venture beyond our neat, acceptable “fence� in faith – when our heart is in play, seeking, hungry, exploring, depending, reaching, looking, believing – God surprises our souls with the sweetness of his love. This spiritual encounter happens in the “wild� - we can’t control it and we can’t make it happen even by attending church a lot. We must position ourselves for surprises of God’s love and grace

by going out into the spiritual “wild� and pursuing God with an open heart. This is how God heals and satisfies our souls in the rough and tumble of life. Country Market Day is organised by the school’s P&C and all profits go directly to the school. The funds raised this year, will enable some improvements to the main assembly area and to the children’s amenities block. Interactive Whiteboards and new sporting equipment are also high on the list, for the children to use and enjoy during their school day. It has been great to hear what parents think about their role as parents, the joys and the struggles. And we all know that there are a lot of both. I also get a lot of enquiries from parents over the phone or via email, who are confused about what services are available to them. This month, I am listing some of the frontline support services that are available in the community to address your concerns, whatever level they may be. Who do you go to if you have a few specific concerns – the baby is not sleeping well, your 2 year-old is not sharing, your 4 year-old still doesn’t have a friend at preschool, your 7 year-old is too focused on screens, etc ? • Early Childhood Health clinics provide support with infant feeding and parenting, and developmental screening. • Karitane Careline 1300 227 464 7 days per week, regarding the care of young children • Tresillian Parents Help Line 1300 272736 7 days per week, regarding children aged 0 to 5 years • ParentLine – 1300 1300 52, 7 days per week, regarding children up to 18 years • Facebook and Blogs – social media is prolific. Check the qualifications of the person running the sites you are getting your advice from. I recently saw a video post on Facebook get thousands of ‘likes’ where the parent was clearly abandoning and laughing at her distressed child – horrific. Some good sites are Dr Justin Coulson, Dr Laura Markham, Dr Beth Onufrak, and Dr Darci Walker (Core Parenting) – note the ‘Dr’ in front of each of these names. You seem to be struggling with quite a few things. You may be yelling at the kids more often than you like. You and your partner may be arguing about how best to parent. You may not be confident in your skills as a parent. Or you just want to update your skills and learn more. • Triple P (Positive Parenting Program) has quite a few options available. You can attend a free Triple P group which will go for approximately two hours per week for 5 to 6 weeks. Triple P is also available online for those parents who can’t attend a group, and it costs $80. Penrith Community Health offers Triple groups in the evening. NCNS offers Teen Triple P. • The ‘Resourcing Parents’ website lists the parenting services available to parents throughout NSW. Go to http://www.resourcingparents.nsw.gov.au/. • Penrith Community Health offers counselling for parents, children, and young people. The intake phone number is 1800 222 608. There is no shame in asking for support or assistance. Parenting is a tough job. Children are complex. You think you have them all figured out and then they grow into another stage with a whole new set of challenges. As a grandmother of 6 said to me recently “it never hurts to learn more, and connect with others who are going through the same thing as you”. Next month, I will list the services available to parents who are concerned that their child may have a disability or disorder.

Bacon, Sour Cream + Chive Jacket Potatoes Easy • Time 1hr 15min • Serves 4
Ingredients • • • • • •
4 Medium Desiree Potatoes 2 Tbsp Olive Oil 2 Middle Bacon Rashers, Trimmed, Finely Chopped 2 Tbsp Fresh Chives, Finely Chopped 1/3 Cup Sour Cream 1/2 Cup Smoked Cheddar, Finely Grated
Method 1.
Preheat oven to 200C/180C fan-forced. Put potatoes on a baking tray. Drizzle with oil. Season with salt and pepper. Bake for 45 minutes or until tender. Set aside for 5 minutes to cool slightly. Increase oven temperature to 220C/200C fan-forced.

Meanwhile, heat a small non-stick frying pan over medium-high heat. Add bacon. Cook, stirring, for 5 minutes or until golden and crisp. Transfer to a bowl. Stir in chives.
3.
Cut a slit down the length of each potato, leaving the base intact. Carefully scoop out centre flesh, leaving a 1cm-thick shell on each side. Place potato flesh in a bowl. Season with salt and pepper. Mash with a fork. Stir in sour cream, 1/3 cup cheddar and 2/3 of the bacon mixture. Spoon filling into potato shells. 4 Return potatoes to baking tray. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes or until heated through. Serve potatoes sprinkled with remaining cheese and bacon mixture.

Lightly grease a 6cm-deep, 19cm square cake pan. Line base and sides with baking paper, allowing a 2cm overhang on all sides. Place chocolate and butter in a glass or ceramic heatproof bowl. Place over a bowl of simmering water. Cook, stirring occasionally with a metal spoon, for 10 minutes until melted and smooth.

Remove from heat. Break biscuits into pieces. Add biscuit, coconut, pistachios, raisins and cherries. Stir to combine. Spoon into prepared pan. Smooth surface. Cover. Refrigerate overnight or until firm.

Remove from fridge. Stand for 10 minutes. Slice and serve.

They were both super busy with the rigours of work and parenthood and felt the flame had gone out of their marriage. We are looking at three strategies to help rekindle their intimacy. Last month we looked at active listening where we keep our months closed while they speak and not jump to conclusions. This lesson morphs into the second lesson when we focus our attention on our partner as if seeing them for the first time. When we are able to become fully aware of who our partner is in the present moment, we drop preconceived expectations. This allows our mate to feel like they truly matter and validates their emotions. This is not to suggest that we blow off important issues in order to keep harmony. Instead, it means that we build in breaks in the form of a ‘timeout‘ when they are necessary and become aware when we are falling into old, unhealthy communications patterns. So our challenge for greater intimacy is to stay in the present moment and keep our mouths closed and our eyes and ears open and really see the person in front of us as if it is the first time we have met. Use a Beginners Mind Focus your attention on your spouse as if you are seeing them for the first time. This mindful approach is what some Buddhist teachers call a Beginners Mindset. Using this method, you purge your consciousness of toxic thoughts about your spouse and free yourself of negative energy. It will not always be possible to keep a beginners mind for long periods of time but even if you can do this for a few moments, you will be creating positive change. Helping Back-pain from Ankylosing Spondylitis Ankylosing spondylitis (AS) is an inflammatory arthritis of the spine and other joints. It affects up to 2% of Australians, is three times more common in men than women & usually appears between 15 and 45 years.1 AS starts with pain & stiffness in the sacroiliac (SI) joint (between the spine & pelvis) but can affect other areas of the spine, the hips, shoulders, eyes, skin, bowel, chest & even lungs. Eventually the whole axial skeleton of a person with long term AS can become fused. 2 Nobody really knows why people get AS, but the overwhelming evidence suggests that people inherit susceptibility genes from their parents, then get AS via an infection, that alters bowel function leading to immune dysregulation and autoimmunity. 3 Ninety percent of people with AS have a gene called HLA-B27. 3 HLA-B27 is a perfectly normal gene found in 8% of the general population and no more than 2% of people born with this gene ever get spondylitis. So the gene itself does not cause spondylitis, but people with HLA-B27 are simply more susceptible to getting spondylitis. 4 People with AS often have what looks like ‘Crohn’s disease’ - bloody ulcers in the intestines with cramping and diarrhea. 3 The medical literature lists at least 14 different micro-organisms which can act as possible triggers and though still controversial, it is thought by many, that infection with these organisms can lead to gastro-intestinal changes, triggering commencement of AS symptoms. 3 Currently, there is no known cure for ankylosing spondylitis5, but various medications such as analgesics, anti-inflammatories, bisphosphonates and drugs called DMARDs & bDMARDS are used by doctors to reduce symptoms and manage the pain. 2 At the clinic we have had some success in treating people with AS by determining & treating possible infective organisms, altering diet to optimize nutrition and immunity, then using adjunct treatments including massage & dry needling to reduce inflammation and remove the need for ongoing AS medications. Not only that, Credit Policies can vary greatly from one bank to the next. Things like your income, type of income, expenses, liabilities, children, purpose of loan, savings history, credit record, even whether you are single, married or defacto are considered along with dozens of other factors to determine if a loan will be approved and how much can be borrowed. Concerned about the high level of investor activity in the market, the banking watchdog APRA (the Australian Prudential Regulation Authority) has been warning the banks to reduce the number of investment loans that they are approving or face the introduction of tougher lending regulations. To keep APRA happy, most of the Banks have now made changes to their Credit Policies making it tougher to get a loan. Unfortunately, many people think that if their bank declines their loan or won’t lend them the amount that they need, they think that all banks are the same. Nothing could be further from the truth. Due to the differing Credit Policies some banks will lend where others wont. Some banks will lend hundreds of thousands more than others. Then there are the non-bank lenders over whom APRA has no authority. Government Recall Issued For Affected Samsung Top Loader Washing Machines
Tanya Davies MP, Member for Mulgoa and Stuart Ayres MP, Member for Penrith have warned residents across their electorates Mulgoa and Penrith, that a Government recall had been issued to Samsung regarding six top loader washing machine models. The machines, of which more than 144,000 were sold nationally between 2010 and 2013, have been found to pose a fire risk. Tanya Davies said that it was imperative that consumers are aware of the potential dangers associated with the affected model machines. “I want to make this very clear. Don’t wait until it is too late. It is time for consumers to take action. If you have a Samsung washing machine, now is the time to check to see if you are affected”, Tanya Davies said. “If you do have an affected machine, it should only be used if you are able to monitor it. If you notice smoke or odd smells coming out of the machine - turn it off at the power point immediately” said Stuart Ayres. “While there has been a voluntary recall in place since 2013, both the NSW Government and Samsung remain concerned by the number of consumers that have not taken part in the recall to date.
“To prevent further incidents occurring, it is essential that anyone who has one of these machines contact Samsung and organise to have it repaired.” Stuart Ayres said. Under the terms of the Government recall, Samsung will repair machines on-site in consumers’ homes. The reworked machines meet the safety requirements of Australian Standards and are independently certified following repair. “The previous ‘voluntary’ recall may have led residents to think it was optional to take part. I want to stress how important it is for affected consumers to take action now and have their washing machine inspected and repaired,” Tanya Davies said. “Machines that are yet to be inspected by Samsung pose a fire risk as moisture may penetrate electrical connectors within one area of the machine causing a fire hazard. Model name and number details can be found on the back of the washing machine” said Tanya Davies. “In recent months we learned mobile coverage in Glenmore Park (Ridge), Castlereagh, Londonderry and Mulgoa would be improved by handheld or external antenna coverage. “This is just another example of the Abbott Government listening and delivering for the people of
Lindsay,” Fiona Scott added. Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Communications Paul Fletcher said that the outcome of the Mobile Black Spot Programme had significantly exceeded expectations. “Almost 500 new or upgraded mobile base stations will be built across regional and remote Australia, covering a total of 3,000 mobile black spots from the more than 6,000 black spots nominated by the public,” Mr Fletcher said. “The Mobile Black Spot Programme has successfully leveraged significant co-contributions from State and local Governments, mobile carriers, and third party organisations, bringing the total funding amount to over $385 million.” The Abbott Government will commit an additional $60 million for Round 2 of the successful Mobile Black Spot Programme, with funding available over a two year period from 1 July 2016. The Government will re-open the database allowing members of the public to nominate further locations in outer metropolitan, regional and remote Australia which do not have mobile coverage. Little Athletics State Cross Country Championships On Sunday 5th July, 13 athletes from Jamison Little Athletics Centre competed in the State Cross Country and Road Walks to end the Season on a high note. The results were excellent as athletes from around the state congregated at Scheyville National Park. Although it was a cold start to the morning, the day warmed up and the athletes produced some very good results in some very competitive races. The races consisted of 800m, 1500m, 2000m, 3000m and 4000m runs through the bush and over hills. The following results were achieved during the day: Age Group
