Blake Fitzpatrick, 13, from Cranebrook, Michael Flores, 12, from Merrylands, and 9 year old Olivia Tarantolo from Bella Vista complete this fantastic group of young dancers.

They have been together just over a year and recently performed on Australia’s Got Talent. The judges loved them and gave them 3 yes’s. Kyle Sandilands said ‘You guys are really good.’ Brian Mcfadden said “pretty excellent performance” and Dannii Minogue loved the costumes. Kevin Lee has been the Padro Pio Parish priest in Glenmore Park for many years and has confessed in a Channel 7 television report that he got married a year ago and has not been living a life of celibacy. He has now resigned and has apologised to his shocked parishoners.

What’s Happening @ Glenmore Park Anglican Church in May

Some exciting new initiatives have got underway over the last few months at Glenmore Park Anglican Church...

‘Salt & Light’ is a wonderful new ministry at our Church that aims to relieve suffering, pain and disadvantage in our local area. The example and teaching of Jesus urges us to show compassion to those around us in need. The book of Proverbs in the Bible says that “Whoever is kind to the needy honours God”. Our aim is to both be kind to the needy and to honour our loving God in doing so by deliberate acts of kindness to the community around us – and very specifically Glenmore Park. We’re involved all sorts of practical areas so you may see us around or you may know of someone in need of a helping hand.

‘Golden Girls’ is another new initiative we have started this year at our Church. This is a fantastic social & support group for women of ‘senior’ years that meet once a

Paddling for the Queen’s Jubilee Gillian Brown from Glenmore Park and Jane Caldwell from Blackheath have been chosen to represent Australia in the International Breast Cancer Paddlers Commission dragon boat, manned entirely by breast cancer survivors, in the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee pageant on the Thames in London in June.

The flotilla of more than a thousand boats will be the largest in history on the Thames, and the first of its kind in over three hundred years.

Gillian and Jane will paddle 13 miles downstream, from Hammersmith Bridge, leading the Queen’s barge as far as Tower Bridge. The crew is composed of survivors from seven countries across the world - breast cancer crosses all boundaries - and this event will challenge all levels of our fitness – physical, mental and emotional.

The boat will be under the control of Professor Don McKenzie, the sports physician who initially established the wonderful physical and psy-

chological benefits of dragon boat paddling for survivors of breast cancer. It is a wonderful opportunity to maintain, on an international arena, public awareness of breast cancer, to promote the search for a cure, and to help women who’ve been diagnosed live full and active lives after treatment.

Gillian and Jane are members of Pendragons Abreast, who train at the Sydney International Regatta Centre at Penrith. The club welcomes breast cancer survivors and their supporters to join them.

The team have to fund themselves including the cost to access the boats in London. Sponsorship or donations are welcome.

Natasha has been successfully touring schools in Victoria, showcasing her songwriting skills and will soon be hitting NSW with her pop/rock tour.

Kev’s Korner ...the last one... with Kevin Lee Two mothers were talking about their sons. The first said, "My son is such a saint. He works hard, doesn't smoke, and he hasn't so much as looked at a woman in over two years." The other woman said, "Well, my son is a saint himself. Not only hasn't he not looked at a woman in over three years, but he hasn't touched a drop of liquor in all that time."

"My word," the first mother said. "You must be so proud."

“I am," the second mother replied. "And when he's paroled next month, I'm going to throw him a big party." (that is the last lame joke you will have to put up with from me)… By the time you are reading this, I will no longer be your Catholic priest at Glenmore Park.

I am sorry if my leaving you is a disappointment but I have to confess I do feel I needed to. Glenmore Park will always be a special place for me as it was my first appointment as a parish priest and pretty much where I learnt ministry among a new and growing area. As I look back and see the beautiful church that I had some small part in seeing to completion as well as the wonderful families whose lives I have been part of for the past nine years I feel some sense of accomplishment.

However, it has not been an easy time in my life.

I have had to live with guilt over decisions I have made that have affected people in a negative way as well as pretending to be something I am not. I have hurt people and disappointed people, let you down or apparently deserted you. I have always acted like life was easy being alone and celibate and in doing that I have deceived you. I tried to make it more bearable by getting my beautiful German Shepherd Zipporah, my Indian ringneck Nina and diamond python Sammy.

In my own view the celibate life of the Catholic clergy is possible but only for real saints. I am not a saint. I think the rest of us just go through the motions living a rather selfish life while telling everyone else to make sacrifices and do good things for their

neighbours. We priests tell you to be forgiving, while we find it almost impossible to forgive the small hurts that we experience. I know my decision is going to upset some of you for whom I was a support and friend. However, I am not naïve enough to imagine that there will not be a little bit of rejoicing in some circles of Glenmore Park and some back-slapping with exclamations of “I told you so! I knew he was a fraud!”

I only wished to leave this parting message to explain that I did act out of a sincere desire that everyone in Glenmore Park would try to have a real relationship with Jesus Christ, would try to follow His teaching to “love one another and do good to each other” and also so that together we could create a better more united and welcoming community for future generations to grow up in. If my little column has brought you one smile in your disappointments or took your mind off your problems even for a second, my time here would not have been in vain.

I thank Margaret Stepniewski and all the staff at the Glenmore Gazette for allowing me this final opportunity to wish you blessings and peace!

Expansion of The Lakes Drive Medical Centre Due to the increasing number of patients attending the Lakes Drive Medical centre at 112 The Lakes Drive, Glenmore Park, a second medical centre has been established at 6 Bija Drive, Glenmore Park. This is a much larger building than the present Lakes Drive centre and both centres are going to operate as one.

The Lakes Drive Medical centre was purchased by its current owner some six years ago. Shortly after Dr Glenn Davis joined the practise. Dr Davis had previously spent 26 years as a general practitioner in Goulburn. The present Practise Manager, Kylie Friend, spent 26 years of her career working with Dr Davis in Goulburn before coming to Sydney to join him almost six years ago.

The practise has been run as a friendly family orientated practise which works on an appointment system where the doctors give you the necessary time so you feel satisfied following a consultation.

G’Day USA Calling all students from Nepean High, Glenmore Park High, and all Penrith Schools! Two very dedicated staff members – Judy Leonard of Glenmore Park High School and Helen Stevens of Nepean High School – have combined forces and resources to give the students of these schools the opportunity to spend next summer holidays in the USA on a cultural tour. The program is open to all high school students, from year 7 to year 12 and, so far, 5 students from Nepean High and 3 from Glenmore Park High have committed to the venture.

In January 2013 students from these two local high schools will be travelling to America for 20 days, visiting Disneyland, Knotts Berry Farm, Universal Studios, San Francisco and spending 10 days living with an American family and going to school with them in the Seattle area.

This will be the eighth time Helen Stevens has been involved with this

program. It is a National Program run by a Melbourne based company, EWT (Educational World Travel), and is fully approved by the Department of Education. It is a broad-based life

The students will experience another culture, assimilate into another family and develop coping mechanisms for life.

Past experience has proved that students come back with a different, more mature outlook on life. The home-based stay with a host family

gives them the opportunity to experience another culture first hand and appreciate the differences in two English speaking countries. The students spend several days at school with their host and thus experience a totally different education system.

The weather in Seattle is very cold in January and more often than not the students will encounter snow, which may even cause the cancellation of school for a day.

She said, “I’m really looking forward to meeting new friends, and to experience what it’s like to live in another country (for the 20 days we are there)”.Blayne Bevington and Amelia Brown are also part of the group.

Jamison Uniting Church This small church on Mulgoa Road behind the Op Shop recently celebrated 123 years of service. It was built as the United Sunday School in 1889 as a cost of only one hundred pounds!

Everyone is welcome to come to the Sunday service at 9am on a Sunday morning.

The Op Shop is very popular and is open 8.45am to 2.30pm on Tuesday, Wednesday Thursday and Fridays.

Co-ordinator Nicole Bridges says “as well as our usual venue at the Glenmore Park Youth & Community Centre on the1st Monday of each month, we are now meeting at the fantastic new Blue Hills Child & Family Centre (3rd Monday of each month)” “Breastfeeding is a learned skill so it can often take extra support and plenty of practice for mother and baby to breastfeed easily. Dr Katrina Warren is the former presenter of ‘Harrys Practice’ and ‘Talk ToThe Animals’, current resident veterinarian on the ‘Today Show’ and host of ‘Housecat Housecall’ for Animal Planet, USA. Her first bestselling book Wonderdog starred Toby the border collie who was known and loved Australia-wide. She has now teamed up with four chocolate border collies, known as the Wonderdogs, who accompany her on her TV and media appearances.
