Christmas wrap up at GPTC Glenmore Park Town Centre, Mulgoa-Wallacia Rotary and Penrith Women In League all joined forces last Christmas to drive the Annual Christmas Appeal. It is with great thanks to all our supportive customers who generously donated so many toys and food items to those less fortunate. We couldn’t have done it without your support for these well deserving charities. The collections were divided amongst the Salvation Army, Penrith Women’s Refuge and Nepean Hospital Children’s Ward Over $300 has been raised from our Santa’s morning tea and Community Notice board which will be donated to Penrith Women In League later this month. They will be passing these funds onto the Nepean Cancer Care Unit.

The community spirit showed with a special performance from Glenmore Park Public School Kindy at the launch of the Christmas Appeal as well as two fabulous Christmas themed performances organised by local Dance Teacher Kerry Richardson of Excite Dance in the lead up to

Christmas. All the performers looked amazing and it was just great to see the local community, friends and family all in the centre showing their support!

Our real bearded Santa in the centre also proved a big hit bringing smiles and happiness to many small children! (maybe some big kids too!)

Academic Achievers St Paul’s Grammar School students have the choice of studying for the HSC or the International Baccalaureate (IB) School captain, Paul Mitchell from Orchard Hills scored an IB of 42 which equates to an ATAR of 99.20.

Twins Feili and Feiya Zhang from Glenmore Park, remarkably both scored the same mark with an IB of 41 which equates to an ATAR of 98.70.

Feili commented: “It was nice to get the same mark as my sister. It has been great to share this with each other. We worked really hard to this and I am pleased that we have achieved this well.” Feili is looking to study Physiotherapy at University of Sydney while Feiya is hoping to study Medicine. She adds: “It is nice to now have your score and consider what possibilities are available.

I think it is important to keep your options open and think about your future pathways. Throughout Year 12 it was hard to keep motivated all the way through but I think that I am now a more confident person.”

With this year well under way, have you stopped to ask yourself; “This year, what am I hoping for?”

Maybe it’s simply more of the same.

Possibly, it’s just to survive. You might not even have thought about it.

But perhaps you might have set yourself some goals; exercise, more time with the kids, renovate the house, fix up the yard, complete that Uni or TAFE course, win a premiership (that’s for Panthers’ fans!). These are all good & worthy goals – especially Panthers winning the premiership!

Yet, consider what Jesus says your focus should be; “Seek first God’s kingdom and his righteousness”. For many of us life becomes so busy or so comfortable that you never take the time to consider what Jesus has to say & how it will impact your life.

2012 will be another busy year in the Parish with opening School Masses for St Dominic’s College being celebrated on the 3rd February, Bethany Catholic Primary School on the 10th February and Caroline Chisholm College on the 14th February.

Our Ash Wednesday Masses will be celebrated on 22nd February at 9am (Caroline Chisholm College School Mass), 11.30am (Bethany Catholic Primary School Mass) and our Parish Mass at 7pm. All parishioners are invited to attend these Masses.

During Lent Stations of the Cross and Mass will be celebrated each Friday evening at 7pm.

Our Sacramental Programme will commence with an enrolment Mass on Saturday 25th February at 6.30pm or Sunday 26th February at 9.00am. Parents of children in Year 6 who wish

their child to enrol in the programme are asked to collect an enrolment package from either the Padre Pio Parish Office, 34-36 William Howell Drive, Glenmore Park, contact phone number 4737 9735 between 8.30am and 3.00pm weekdays, or at any of our weekend Masses.

Glenmore Park Football Club Glenmore Park Football Club was formed in 1994 and competes in local Nepean District competition. The club caters for all age groups and abilities and each year registers over 1200 players, coaches, managers and volun-

teers regularly fielding over 100 teams making it the largest club in the district.

The majority of teams play against other clubs but due to the number of u/5 to u/7 players Glenmore Park is able to run its own in-house competition for these age groups on Saturdays at Blue Hills Oval 2011 was a successful year for the club with the following teams winning championships; U/11 Div1, u/12 Div 1, u/13 Div 1 , Premier League Div 2 and O/45 Div 1. A number of other teams finished in the top 4 of their respective competitions with some going on to win the top 4 playoff finals.

In 2010 with the support of its Patron, Councillor Prue Guillaume Glen-

more Park was able to secure funding for new floodlights at Ched Towns Reserve that have recently been installed and will be in use this season. It is anticipated Glenmore Park will be playing some night games this year and will use these games to promote football in the area and showcase some of the local talent. Penrith Council has also provided additional funding for storage and seating at Ched Towns which work on will commence shortly.

Orchard Hills Veterinary Hospital New Babies Born for Belinda and Carly

The stork has been busy at Orchard Hills Veterinary Hospital. Both Belinda and Carly have both been enjoying their new arrivals.

Believe it or not they both gave birth on the same day on 28th November 2011, and only 40 minutes apart!! They were texting each other in adjacent delivery suites and shared a hospital room overnight.

Carly’s little boy arrived on time, and Belinda’s little girl wanted to beat the Christmas rush and came 3 weeks early. Both Jackson and Indi are doing well at home and both mums are very happy.

Santa Photos With Your Pets

Thank you to everyone who turned up in December to get Santa Photos with their pets.

How much fun was it??? We all enjoyed watching your pets get dressed up with Santa hats and scarves and sitting on Santa’s knee for a photo. Erica went home one day with a sore mouth from smiling so much!!

Too much fun!!

From all of your donations for the Santa photos, we raised $1000 which was all donated to the Guide Dogs NSW!!

We had lots of fun and the Guide Dogs get a great donation. Thanks again for participating.

Fireworks, Stray Dogs and Microchips

During the New Years Eve celebrations, lots of fireworks were going off and many dogs and cats have a phobia against the loud noises and flashing lights. We had many calls from distressed owners about their lost pets during this time. Thank you to all of the people who took time out of their lives to take care of stray dogs and for contacting the local vets to assist in locating the owners.

Happily we reunited many pets with their owners. One 15 year old dog was missing for 2 days, and was found 15km from home by a very patient person who took 1 hour to catch this scared dog running along the side of the road. The owners were very relieved and happy to have her back home.

Unfortunately a few stray dogs were not microchipped and the owners did not contact us over the long weekend, so they were sent to the pound where hopefully the owners found their lost pets.

Firework phobias are common in pets and owners can do a few things at home to alleviate their fear:

• Be aware of ‘Cracker nights’ in your local area.

• Stay at home with your pets to comfort them.

• Bring your pets inside with you or close them into a confined space like a laundry.

• Turn on a radio at low volume to provide ‘white noise’ which may block out some of the noises from the fireworks.

• Veterinary prescribed sedation for some pets is also sometimes needed.

To ensure the safe return of your lost pet, please ensure your pet’s microchip details are up to date with your current address and phone numbers. Please contact the local council to update your details if required.
