District Gazette Writer Publishes First Book Even though author, Lisa Finn Powell, is the mother of five children aged 10-27, she feels a lot like a first-time mum after the publication of her new book, The Thin Time. “I’m so proud of my ‘book baby’” said Finn Powell. “It was a very long time in the making, and now I just want to share it with everyone”. The book launched last month at 20 Mile Hollow Cafe in Woodford. It was a family affair. Her very talented children included, Grace, an actor, who gave the introductory speech; Will, a trained photographer, held his exhibition ‘Sensations of Grief’; Nick, a musician, performed his original song ‘Decade’ written for his father; Belle, wrote the foreword in the book and ten-year-old Charlie was also there in support. Her graphic designer husband Vinnie, typeset the book and designed the cover. Finn Powell is also a musician and sang at the event. The Thin Time is the story of a very difficult time in the author’s life, when her late husband, Paul, died and she had four young children to raise after discovering they were completely financially unprepared. It is a memoir of grief, loss, hope and the lessons she learned by listening to the wind blowing though the gum trees. Finn Powell is an experienced writer and columnist. Her work has appeared in newspapers, magazines and on radio, television and online in the US, UK and Australia. She is a regular contributor to the District Gazette.
